I spent 11 years in prison. From the time I was 17 until I was 28, I was locked up. The biggest thing that changed in the world in that 11 year period is my dad. He's not here anymore. The world isn't the same without him. He was my best friend.

@@abusepig5606 It's a shock, honestly. I was tried as an adult, so I was placed in an adult prison. I was surrounded by grown men, many of whom had been to prison before. Many of them had pretty serious cases. While other people my age were thinking about graduating from high school and heading to college, I was learning to survive in a prison full of hardened criminals. Stay good. Don't go to prison. I have a video over on my channel that talks about what it was like when I was first arrested. Part 2 of that will be posted over the next day or two.

As a corrections officer in today’s new generation, I really do have to say I would much rather work around the old school inmates because respect is returned. I wish you the best, you did your time and paid your dues. In my book you are square with the house. God bless you. I hope God guides you to a life you deserve as his child. No other is better than you sir, remember that we all have skeletons in our closet. It’s weather we have the guts to admit it and learn from it. I always respect guys like you because I have learned to look at what’s inside and not outside. God bless you brother. I hope you find peace and happiness!

Isolation and Hardly any communication with anyone and the type of interactions he got was either someone backstabbing him or insulting him. It amazes me that This Man still has hope and faith in humanity and still believes and sees the good in people.

This is a little difficult to watch. When he said he didn’t wanna leave prison on the other video I started crying. My father has been in prison since 1996, I was 8yr old. Now that he’s getting out next month, every time I get on the phone with him I hear fear in his voice I’ve NEVER seen or heard my dad cry. He’s so scared to come out. He escaped jail so he was maximum security for 12 years, similar to him. I’m 31 now and I feel like I have to protect him when he gets out bc I feel like people might take advantage of him or he might be a little weak minded. I’m scared.

I know what you mean. This and homeless people. Many don't want to give the effort once down. It is hard to inspire someone when you haven't resources to help. I read a cool book called 50 ways to help the homeless. It's about getting to know them on a personal level. I've done some 'work'/helping and this does enable you to understand their needs. Transportation, communication, continuous consistent contact, shelter in a decent environment, nutrition...then occupation.
All these things require time and patience that will more than likely be wasted. I found transport and making sure appointments can be made and kept help tremendously. I also think that just knowing someone actually cares about their existence is a huge help. It's very lonely on that side of life. No government employee or program will do these types of things in my area. Money cannot buy human compassion or empathy. These people experience very little of it.
I mostly consider homeless moreso than the convicted criminal and I am bias that way. Not all convicts are actually guilty of their crimes either /rant.

@@paulh7589it amazes me that people believe, or claim to be God fearing. Claim to honor God in the pledge of allegiance. And actually go sit their firey asses up in all sorts of religious places. But lack the compassion of Christ, whom they is real. They call on him for all reasons."oh God, Jesus help me, Lord have mercy". You name it, for whatever reason, and in all walks these and more quips are said.
But then, it's those same people who think that someone like this Man, Myself, and plenty of others are not worthy to be picked up and redeemed by the the same God who has the power to change things.
It's those same people who claim to be soldiers for the Lord. Yet forget that the, Bible, as it reads and states that God uses Men like Him, me, and others show the world of his power.
This Man as you see him is a child of God no matter what. He's equal in the eyes of God as you are. You've done wrong. As we all have. So don't be an idiot and cast your soul to he'll simply for trying to play God. For allowing the same evil that troubled this Man to overcome you and have you hate and wish death on him.

I think they need to restructure the prison system to keep the prisoners out of contact with each other. Not isolation so they go mad but daily visits from several people who talk to them, help them better themselves give them assignments and jobs to occupy them. Putting them in a violent environment with a bunch of other violent people as their only companions only makes things worse. I ain't talking about a summer camp either it wont be fun and they wont have rights other than essential supplies. Teach them to read and supply them with books.

So even now the lady has came clean about taken evidence, but since she's a convicted felon they don't want to hear it. So should he have went to prison for what he did? hell yes! Years of witnessing people like him in the most humiliating circumstances rise up and find fullness of life. And many more in better conditions slip into misery from one poor decision after another. It puzzled me to until I realized… This man has hit bottom. He hit it with force after a long slide of pain and suffering, much by his own doing, as he would admit, and much more by a system that profits off him.
As for other people’s “excuses?” They are still on the downward slope. And they build momentum, every minute on the wrong trajectory is going to make it harder to correct. But they’ll hit, and they’ll either rebound like this man or die on impact.

I am glad for this video. I work in a maximum-security prison as a sociologist. My job is to research how successful ex-cons are in adjusting to the Free World. I work with 30 inmates who are leaving in at least 5 years or less and make sure that they adjust once they're out and teach them while they're in prison how to adjust to the Free World. I research ways in which the Department of Corrections can reduce recidivism. I am glad you're trying to help me understand how I could assist the inmates that I work with adjust to the Free World. I'm boutta rewatch the first two episodes again before this one. This series is so good Joe, you can't get content like this on mainstream tv.
Edit: Seeing Danny trying to get on the right track is so inspiring to me, it makes me want to work twice as hard on achieving my dream of owning a recording studio. This is also teaching me to have patience in the work I do, take everything a day at a time and work your ass off no matter what it takes. You rule APS, I hope you know how big this light of hope you shine down on people that struggle to reach their goals is. Danny puts that fight back in my mindset, he puts that don't quit DIY Positive Mental Attitude back inside the things I want. Thank you for sharing his story with us Joe, bottom of my heart to the top of my lungs thank you for what you do Joe.

@Viper But the segregation based on color we see it in the media and it becomes vivid whenever police interact with people of colour... And all this is documented... But to respond also on poverty... Any nation or society is judged not on it wealthy inhabitants but how is handles it disadvantaged(poverty, gender, colour or marginalised) people. So America in selling its image to the world, it certainly not the one for inclusion but discrimination...

I agree! Imagine if prisoners could get something like this serving their time!!! I mean check out Norway or Sweden’s prison models...one country doesn’t sentence over 20 years and they treat the prisoners as if they already are integrating back into society from day 1. I wonder if anyone thinks of this before these guys with decades of time served get out!!! A travesty.

Not really. I'm 35 years old, and remember before the modern internet and digital revolution I could easily go back to doing things the "old fashioned way" if I had to. Hell, up until 2001, I always carried a prepaid calling card in my wallet so I could make calls from payphones. It wasn't until last year that I stopped carrying a phone book in my vehicle to use as a map and to find telephone numbers. I still know how to read a road map, and even operate an 8 track player and a record player. I could easily adapt to the 70's way of doing things if I had to.

Kyle Y so you know nothing about video making and how much work goes into it. That’s ok but please don’t judge it then. Besides the time consuming work like making the concept, contacting the right people to interview, et cetera you have to pay the equipment (lighting, multiple cameras, microphones etc.) edit the video afterwards and manage & promote the TH-cam channel. That’s all work and you can watch at for free so be a bit more respectful
