  • I have always wanted to see what it looks like inside the KZN CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL on Durban Beachfront. It's been closed for almost 30 years, and still needs millions of rands to get fully renovated. At the moment there is only one section that is open for patients, and has been open since 2013.
Craig was working, so I got my parents to join me on the walking tour of this iconic building.
Here are the resources that I used to help make this video:

Dad did a fantastic job as the camera man, glad your parents were able to join you. Steve would absolutely love the history behind the hospital and were open to everyone in SA. Glad they are trying to preserve the history and the hospital, and even someone like Elton John is chipping in. Definitely need to do more to preserve our history.

Thanks guys, yes, especially here in SA...we don't have such a rich and long history like Europe and their castles etc, so very important to preserve what we have :)

I love taking tours like this! It's so interesting to learn about the history and very cool that they are starting to renovate it again. Hopefully they get all the donations they need to revive it. Your parents were great TH-camrs in this episode!!

The children of South Africa deserve to have an amazing health care facility! Imagine having to go to the hospital, but knowing it’s right by the beach, ocean views and fresh ocean air ☺️

Hi Chantz, I love that your parents were part of this episode 😍 they did great💗
The history of the hospital is heartbreaking, but it was really amazing to see how it is being restored and re opened.
What a difference between the areas that have been restored and the areas that are still waiting.
This is a great way to share the history and let people know how they can help 💕

It was so sad to hear why this hospital has been standing empty for so long 😢 but amazing to see how passionate people are about the restoration and the dreams they have for the development 🌟

Loving the parental assistance both on and off camera!
It's great that the hospital is getting restored but I didn't understand how it got closed and left to ruin for 30 years, was it lack of funding? Hopefully by having people tour it they can keep raising the funds to get it all restored and love the buy a brick scheme too!

Haha...must say, very impressed with my parents :D
So the hospital treated children of all races, and the apartheid government wasn't happy with that, so they stopped funding the hospital and eventually they had to close down. It's so sad that this happened to a children's hospital :(
Glad that it's being restored now and it will be such an amazing space for children to come for treatment etc...especially the ocean views will make for quick recovery I'm sure :)

Thank you so much for this video, I went to the children's outpatients behind this hospital, and landed in Addington hospital a few times due to my Asthma, it was so bad it was because of that hospital I received the help I needed. I will definitely donate didn't realise it was an option ❤️🤗I was always fascinated by that building and at the time only children that had very serious illnesses would go there, cancer patients.

Hi Angie, thank you so much for your comment 💛 Sorry that you had to go for asthma treatments at the hospital, but awesome that you would’ve seen the building in its prime and that you got the help that you needed.
I’ve also always been fascinated by this building and so glad I got to see what it looks like.
Thanks so much for watching 🥰

    Hi Dad! Hi Mom!
This is a place of healing. Have to be so many stories of lives saved, joy taken from sorrow, hope from suffering.
Just insane that it's been closed for so long. Just want to understand: Did it close because they were taking in children of all races, or did they simply close for unrelated reasons at the time they were taking in children of all races?
Just crazy the abandonment. I can understand why it would take that much money to re-open it.

    • @BeingBedingfield
      @BeingBedingfield  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jay!
As far as I understand...the apartheid government withheld funds from the hospital because they treated all races and in 1984 it had to close. It’s such a heartbreaking story 😔
The plans they have for this hospital is amazing though! And we felt really inspired after the tour.

@@BeingBedingfield Just wow. And so cool they want to bring that place back to life in its full capacity and heal others. So cool.
