  • Electric tooth brushes are a fantastic way to reduce plaque and improve your oral health. Unfortunately, the majority of people are using the electric brush incorrectly. Most people are using the electric tooth brush like a manual toothbrush. This will cause possible gum recession, gum irritation and you definitely won't be completely removing all the plaque. By improving your technique and correctly using the electric toothbrush, you will benefit by reducing plaque, gingivitis and will have a superior dental checkup.

    45 degree angle won’t make it go in between teeth but it would work on the gum line which is important. In between teeth flossing would help. 45 degree upward when working on the upper teeth and 45 degree downward when working on the lower teeth.

    Thank you for the video. i had a question, how close the brush should be to the gum line

      Place the toothbrush where the gums and teeth meet. And be gentle, do not put any pressure. I will do another video on this issue.

    Can you use the sensitive brush head for the chewing areas or do you need a firmer one? What kind of brush head is recommended for the chewing areas?

    • @happyhealthysmiles7931
      @happyhealthysmiles7931  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should only use soft brush head for all areas. Dental Plaque is a soft material and comes off easily with correct brushing technique. So no need for hard brush head.

    Because of my exposed roots, should I use the sensitive setting for the enamel? What kind of setting should I use for the enamel part?

    • @happyhealthysmiles7931
      @happyhealthysmiles7931  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Use the sensitive setting and make sure you don't put strong pressure and use soft brush head. Be gentle. But important to clean plaque off the roots.

      Another option is to use very soft manual toothbrush for the root areas.

    Which Oral B brush heads are soft?

    • @happyhealthysmiles7931
      @happyhealthysmiles7931  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are 2 that are soft. One says sensitive on box and the other one is sensitive gum care-- I find this softer.

    Are you supposed to brush the exposed roots in gum recession?

    • @happyhealthysmiles7931
      @happyhealthysmiles7931  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question Angely! Yes, you must brush the exposed root surfaces, or chance of root cavities increases. Root areas are softer then enamel so more chance of decay if plaque accumulates. I see this often in people who don't brush well around exposed root surfaces.
      Be very gentle, very minimal pressure, use sensitive setting on your electric toothbrush and make sure to always use a soft or extra soft brush head. Or use an extra soft manual toothbrush for root areas. Sulca brush works really well around exposed root areas too. Hope this helps.

      @@happyhealthysmiles7931 Thanks for the reply! I really appreciate your advice and the time that you took for answering my question, I feel like the way that you explained everything it made it very clear.
      I just wanted to know how to brush in the meantime until I can get to a periodontist because I have severe gum recession in some of my teeth due to overzealous brushing when I received orthodontic treatment during my adolescent years and because of it, I need to see a periodontist in order to get a gum graft or pinhole technique done.
      I use the same oral b oscillation electric toothbrush that you demonstrated in this video and due to how tiny the brush head is, it only covers the enamel portion and since it doesn’t cover the roots, after I finish the enamel portion, I have to drag the brush down to the roots and gum line which causes my brushing time to extend after the ideal 2 minutes that dentists recommend and as much as I try to cut down my time to 2 minutes, I can never finish in 2 minutes. I would appreciate your advice on how can I cut down on my brushing time?
      Also, should I use the sensitive setting for the whole mouth or just for the exposed roots?

      You're so welcome. I appreciate your positive feedback. This is why I started this TH-cam channel.
      The 2 minutes is just a guide line. It's the minimum you should brush. If you take 3 minutes it is definitely OK, as long as you use proper technique, not brush aggressively, be gentle .

      Hi,
      I have enamel loss on the gum line, due to brushing too hard with a manual brush. For which I have to have my first two composite fillings
      I now have an electric Oral B series 4. However, I’m not sure what setting I should have it on. Lowest speed. Or the fastest speed? Just worried of the same issue occurring again in other areas. Thank you.
