One likely explanation for why the Burst seemed to perform better than the Sonicare is that he became aware that his brushing technique was leaving so much plaque behind so on a subconscious level he brushed that tooth better without even realizing it. He needs to expand his experiment to include more people and then repeat it a few more times for the results to have any real meaning.
I gifted myself with the burst toothbrush over the holidays. I love it. The first few times I used it, it tickled my cheek. Since I bought it during the holidays I was able to save $30. Best Investment Ever!
I just got my burst toothbrush yesterday. I feel like I wasn’t even really brushing my teeth all these years. The way my mouth felt so clean was as if I just left the dentist office. Like I even noticed a difference in how white my teeth were in one use. Love it!
I’ve had Burst for maybe 6 months now. I think the way the bristles are shaped (some are longer than others) leads to a better cleaning experience of removing debris in tighter crevices
The plaque always builds up in the same spots because those spots don’t have much mechanical activity happening in them. For example, that tooth that’s slightly out of place has a crevice where your tongue won’t make contact with when you run your tongue across it. The inside of your lip never rubs against it. It’s a spot where things can chill and grow
We were skeptical about Burst because it was so beautiful, lol! But, it's amazing! It cleans near our gums way better without making his teeth sensitive.
This video helped me decide on a new electric toothbrushes after my trusty early-edition Sonicare finally died after about 5 years or so. I also had sone sensitivity with my Sonicare over one tooth that had a shoddy crown job, so between that and all the types of electronic toothbrush out now, I didn't just rush out and get the latest edition Sonicare. I had read some great reviews about the Burst in various comparison articles, so I was glad to come across this video made by a dentist with objective results of the plaque test. I ended up buying the Burst a few weeks ago and LOVE IT! The vibrations are not so agrressive to make me sensitive, it is sturdy (doesnt feel like a cheaper version to me like he said, but I'm also comparing to a 5-6 year old Sonicare), the head is small enough to easily reach my back teeth, the bristles are soft enough that I can really get at the gumline without sensitivity. Even after my first brush, it had removed plaque that wasn't even being removed by my Sonicare - plaque I didnt even know I had! Teeth felt like a fresh dental cleaning from a hygienist. The heads are also less expensive to replace. I am really happy with it! (Note: I am not a paid promoter - wish I was lol. I just showed my family this toothbrush and shared this video as well.)
@@calebthomas5411 I really love it. I especially like the small head for maneuverability as well as some of their other products, like the sensitive friendly whitening strips. I still have the same system, and the replacement heads are very affordable.
I would like to see the images of the exact brush heads for each toothbrush he used. I have a Sonicare, and have noticed despite how similar the brush heads may appear, I get greatly varying results depending which I'm using. I'm wondering if there are Oral-B ones that would perform better or worse for different tooth alignments than what he used. I would also like to see all brushes he used lined up for comparison.

Yes very very true! The burst sonic toothbrush definitely stands up to its reputation, I’ve been using my for over a month now and the results, just amazing! Definitely worth the buy!
I tried the Burst after seeing this and for 9 months I was pleased, until the battery lifespan ended. After only 9 months, the battery would not hold a charge and one can get 1 brushing before it needs to recharge. I can not recommend based on battery lifespan.
I personally pay attention to every tooth I have and when I brush my teeth, I look at them in the mirror. I really think it depends on brushing techniques.
Flossing is what cleans in between your teeth, while brushing primarily removes the outer surfaces. Flossing daily will remove plaque and buildup between your teeth ^-^
People should remember the problem is you can’t guarantee that with each day you brush exactly like the day before or night or however many times a day you brush. Regardless of the toothbrush, thats human nature the same as you are not the same person psychologically that you were two, five minutes or an hour ago - things occur in that time. It’s a test with variability, so you could use the burst brush again even after having the better of the four results this day/morning and then the next day miss spots. Not every day do you apply the same movements/directionality or pressure on every spot evenly/ with exact precise distribution. Best way to look at it is how clean your teeth get on the parts where you truly try / know you brushed well - that will give a reading of how well the brush can actually perform, human error / nature cannot be blamed on a technically working product if the product does what it actually claims really. Thanks for the posting the video though, it was interesting to watch and see the results when using the pill. Can you buy those pills to use to show where the plaque is if they are available and use them daily, or is that not advised / could have adverse affects on oral health even?
Looks like those pills are available on Amazon! Just type in “disclosing tablets” :) I totally agree with you about human error. The truth is you can do just as good a job with a manual brush (which is what I use) as with any electric. The important part is proper technique!
Ask A Hygienist thank you, I’ll have a look! I have refused to buy an electric toothbrush for years for basically that same reason (and a few others). Last week however, I bought an electric toothbrush on sale (not a top model and it was quite cheap - Oral b 2000) and so far have been pleasantly surprised at how clean my teeth and gums get and have gotten used to using it quicker than I thought it might take. I mainly decided to try one as I had an issue reaching my back teeth with a manual toothbrush head and every time I brushed I became a bit unwell. I just thought for the price I could try and if i decided to revert back it wasn’t a huge loss financially. I’ll wait longer to make up my mind as to wether its money well spent or not :) I agree with what you say about technique, I think one of the potential issues is that some people become quite lazy with brushing and see using an electric as if it solves all problems / requires less effort to use. If i don’t put the effort in either with a manual or an electric, well then that my own fault if my oral health suffers really.
I wish dentists would go over toothpaste allergies, it took over 25 years of suffering for a dentist to go hey could you be allergic to your toothpaste? I then switched to another brand not colgate or crest, and my gums are 90% better than they were. Dry mouth can also lead to irritation and gum issues, dentists simply just saying you aren't doing a good job isn't very productive.
William Jarosz I agree. I just brush my teeth coconut oil. My hygienist suggested I start using a mouth wash or rinse at night before bed. She handed me something. I looked at the ingredients - full of sugar. I said, soooooo, you want me to slush sugar around in my mouth and leave the residue there all night while I sleep???? No thanks!
Burst is a long oral b a round. I’ve been using oral b from the get go and find it impossible now to use a long shaped brush. What … do you do with it 😳. When used correctly nothing beats the oral b io…
Forget the type of brush - Where can I get the red dye!? That seems like a pre-brushing MUST! Someone please invent/release a workable pre dye that rinses off easily afterwards!
Thank you for the good video, clean, clear and true Ordered my new Burst set this week, and will be getting it next week We are a family that uses regular tooth brushes but feel like bringing something new will reinvigorate the process of "wanting" to brush teeth. I am hoping for aaah this is new and modern and fun, in the beginning and then the process of letting the equipment do the work will give into cleaner mouths and less stress for us as a family trying to get our kids on top of dental hygiene. And a BIG YES, that flossing is still a must no matter what new toothbrushes you get. Appreciate your time and helpful video content! Thumbs up on your quality video, good lighting, audio and editing.
I'm a dentist too, I've been using Oral B and all of the time I keep hearing how great the sonicare is and I wanted to know what all the fuss is about. This clears it up, it's really nothing that different in comparison so if you have one of those then stick to it, no need to change unless you really want to.
The main noticeable difference between a sonic toothbrush and a non sonic one like Oral B is the weight. I have both the Oral B and a Colgate Omron sonic toothbrush and the weight difference is like night and day,my Colgate Omron is as light as a feather as well as being incredibly slim compared to my Oral B.
This actually helps because I’ve recently been having gum irritations and as I can’t see my dentist or doctor until next week I’ve been looking for solutions
Hazey there could be many reasons for gum irritation! It could even be because you are brushing too hard orrr missing spots and the plaque buildup is irritating your gums. Sorry for the unsolicited advice lol I’m passionate about teeth XD
Ha! I just bought my burst yesterday and got almost 50% off because I bundled with my girlfriend. Watching this afterwards made me feel like I made the right choice and got it for a good value. Thanks for taking the time to compare the best brushes on the market and giving an honest review that actually was fair 👍🏼
Can you do the same experiment again putting the first place brush used as the first in the experiment to ensure it wasn't just due to variables in what you ate or the order they were tried in? Thanks for the video
@@SleeplessinOC it’s been so long since I last used Sonicare, I couldn’t tell you anymore. But what I can tell you is I’m still using Burst and I’m pretty happy.
Ask a hygienist did this same test but unsponsored and got worse results from Burst. She highlights undisclosed endorsers being paid the 20% commission for Burst sales. I noticed you are sponsored on other videos by burst and use the same burst clip and reaction on different videos from different years but make no mention of it. The reviews on target and Amazon all point out the batteries dying within 1 year with no product support.
I wonder if you'd get similar results if you use the v-white for 2 minutes. Yes you have to do the whole two 2 minutes but it's 2 minutes of just holding it there.
Oral-B clearly requires multiple techniques judging by the size of the brush, When that's done efficiently surely that's the best toothbrush as your cleaning every tooth back, to front and to the sides?
I know this is old but I hate completely straight toothbrushes. I have Invisalign and my gums aren’t as great as they were before. I use manual toothbrushes with the flossing effect (some bristles are thinner and softer) which burst has, this clarifies my decision. Thanks for making this video!
Can you do this pink plaque test, please, using a regular toothbrush? Preferably medium hard? My favourite these days is a medium Colgate brush with multiple zones. My dentist is trying to convince me that I need an electric brush. I like the full brush look of the Sonicare, but have heard the Oral Bs slightly edge them out. But I too, feel like that round brushhead is 'dinky' for lack of a better word. I'd prefer sticking with my $5 toothbrushes if the difference between them and a $90 electric, is negligible.
To be fair...all of these brushes are designed to be used in a pattern around the teeth to touch each area. The reason why plaque still remains for most people is they use the toothbrush like a regular brush and miss areas. Sonicare hands down. RDH here. 👌👍
So I have a sonicare which I had contemplated ditching in hopes of finding a better electric with cheaper replacement heads but you’re saying sonicare is still the one to go with ? I had been using a manual after accidentally dropping my sonicare and dirtying up the brush head on it and too lazy until now to buy more but thought hmmm maybe there is an even better electric brush that does a better job of removing plaque while being gentle at the same time. Thus my watching these videos . Should I stick with my sonicare?
What's the difference between ultra thin pro gum care and sensitive clean brush heads ? What's best for very sensitive teeth can you please help me and Thanks ( these are oral b brush heads )
It makes sense to me that the Oral B is effective. With its size and shape users can kind of brush between the teeth. I have a Sonic. I plan to get an Oral B.
Do you feel like the timing on the 30 second toothbrush was the issue? If it was used longer would it be effective? I like the concept behind the design that it brushes each quadrant equally, but I was skeptical about the time.
Thank you so much! Just bought a Burst after getting an awesome teeth cleaning. It seems so soft like it isn’t doing anything. But my teeth feel so clean . I did notice that despite my vigilant brushing and flossing , some of the tea stains are returning to my teeth after only a couple of weeks post cleaning. I’m So sad . Any tips to keep the stains down ? I’m 45 and I drink a lot of unsweetened chai tea . I switched to chai from coffee a couple of years ago and I’ve noticed that tea stains my teeth worse than coffee did . Or is it that I’m getting older and my teeth stain more easily.?Wonderful video!!! I’ve considered trying this experiment myself. But hadn’t looked into where to get the special teeth dye . They used that stuff when I was a kid to show us how to brush properly. I’ve always taken care of my teeth . You only get the one set of adult teeth . It pains me to see people flat out not brush their teeth ! I’d go insane ! Just the bad taste in my mouth and the furry feeling of plaque would drive me nuts ! Thank you 😊
Loved this video!! Thank you so much for doing this experiment no one was using those dyes to show if the brush was really working or not and i didnt understand why so this video was excatly what i wanted to see i will definatly be getting the burst brush after my sonic kicks the bucket.. If it ever will lol ive had mine for years probably like 5 years and i just replace the heads when needed cant complain about getting my moneys worth thats forsure but you definatly sold me on the burst!!!
I purchased the Burst toothbrush and received it in the mail today. I like that they send you a brush head every 12 weeks for $7. And if your unit stops working, they'll replace it for free. I also read the brush is not made out of nylon like other brush heads are. When i used it today, my gums didn't feel cut up afterwards. It's just my first day but I like it!
@@SleeplessinOC only one model type from this brand. The only difference are the colors of the brush. I went to a dental check up and the dentist said my teeth and gums are looking good and whatever im doing to keep it up. I have never had a dentist give me those comments before.
Thanks for this review, I love how in depth it was! I use the Burst toothbrush (After using the sonicare diamond clean for years) and I was convinced that it didn't work as well because the vibrations weren't as strong and even the vibrations per minute was less than the sonicare one, but this review has shown me that the Burst works just as well! No more receding gumlines for me!
There in Europe we cannot buy Burst products. So we're stuck with Sonicare or Oral b. I have now sonic toothbrush from Oclean and I find it's being better than other two.
Hey just want to say I know it sucks when your teeth are yellow because of weakened enamel and calcium deficiency, but don't let it bring you down. Keep your teeth and gums healthy, that's the most important thing you can do, the color is not an indicator of health. Some people are lucky to have stronger enamel and more calcium in their system, but it doesn't mean their oral health is good. Stay positive, yellow teeth is normal and nothing to be embarrassed about!
In my opinion Oral B is better than Phillips. Something about that circular brush head. Definitely a great choice for people who have problem areas. For instance, the lingual surface on the lower mandibular. I used to have problems with that area so I switched to oral b and it's much better. Yes, I floss but switching the toothbrush helped alot. Maybe I'll try Burst tho. Seems pretty good.
wow, great job doing this test! I feel the need to suggest that the test would have more terms through which we can make sure we don't really have any artifact discussing the results. so maybe the sequence of toothbrush use had an impact, so repeating the same test with a few different sequences and comparing them would solve that issue. if the result would be the same for the Burst toothbrush when you start the test with it, then I'll truly be convinced that the results are valid. Thank you for the video !
I can't brush with my mouth closed. I use an oral b after my manual toothbrush but I'm pretty sure I brush my teeth way too long. Probably about 5 minutes from flossing to gargling.
I read something similar about toothbrushes that are like the V white. I had hoped that would work because my husband throws up when he brushes his teeth. Due to this, he only brushes it in the morning. This is not good, and is starting (I believe) to cause him problems with his gums. Perhaps something like the V-white would be better than nothing for people like him.
I still like my dual action Braun from twelve or so years ago. Regular looking brush covers much more area than the tiny round ones. Sonic Care was touted by my dentist seven or eight years ago so I ordered one from Amazon. Felt cheap and again had a tiny little brush but more importantly the first one just failed to turn on. Then the replacement also failed to work. So much for that garbage. My dual action is still going strong although I have to say that I brush while watching YT and it generally is at least six or eight minutes. For other reasons I do not use tooth paste so there is no abrasive action. I also only brush once a day. Seems to work for me as my checkups are very good. I only hope I can replace my Braun dual action when this ones poops out. I have no trouble getting the brushes on line for it. I have no faith in gimmicky products that have no quality control and are built and sold for and by advertising. Flashing lights on a tooth brush for more than a hundred dollars!! P.T. Barnum sure had it right. Take care. Doug

Ask A Hygienist is another dental channel with comparison!
Looks like those pills are available on Amazon! Just type in “disclosing tablets” :)
I totally agree with you about human error.
I’ll wait longer to make up my mind as to wether its money well spent or not :)
I agree with what you say about technique, I think one of the potential issues is that some people become quite lazy with brushing and see using an electric as if it solves all problems / requires less effort to use.
What brand do you use now? I also use crest and have similar problems
@@DavyDave1313 I switched to Biotene gentle mint which is designed not to irritate. they also have related products for dry mouth issues.
GirlyGamer86
Everytime I brush my teeth my nose runs for about 2/3 minutes. Like an allergic reaction?????
Toothpastes have all sorts of crap in them and most of them are sweetened unfortunately.
William Jarosz
I agree.
I absolutely love the honesty
I bought a Burst after seeing this video and I’m not sure I’ll go back to manual brushing ever again. Thanks so much!
Forget the type of brush - Where can I get the red dye!? That seems like a pre-brushing MUST! Someone please invent/release a workable pre dye that rinses off easily afterwards!
Him showing expensive electric brushes.
Me with my 1$ brush in my mouth😲
I really appreciate how upfront you were about product commission. Most TH-camrs don't have your scruples.
Thank you for the good video, clean, clear and true
Ordered my new Burst set this week, and will be getting it next week
We are a family that uses regular tooth brushes but feel like bringing something new will reinvigorate the process of "wanting" to brush teeth.
There are inconsistencies in the way you brush with each different tooth brush which will majorly changes the outcome. Great video nome the less.
He did brush longer in each quadrant while using burst.
Ask A Hygienist I got rid off the irritation by using Colgate medical mouth wash for 3 times a day on a 7 period
@@hazey1373 Glad it helped!!
I love your videos!!! Your so open and honest and such a great reviewer!!!
Greetings, can I use a water flosser instead of standard flossing? Tnx 🙂
I’ve added Burst in rotation to my Sonicare. Still searching for that totally satisfying clean with one brush.
I had Sonicare for over 5yrs. I bought Burst a week ago because of this review. Burst all the way.
Really ?? Is it that much better???
@@SleeplessinOC it’s been so long since I last used Sonicare, I couldn’t tell you anymore. But what I can tell you is I’m still using Burst and I’m pretty happy.
Ask a hygienist did this same test but unsponsored and got worse results from Burst. She highlights undisclosed endorsers being paid the 20% commission for Burst sales. I noticed you are sponsored on other videos by burst and use the same burst clip and reaction on different videos from different years but make no mention of it. The reviews on target and Amazon all point out the batteries dying within 1 year with no product support.
I wish you had a link for the red dye! Ive gotten lazy brushing my teeth and i would like a ggod wakeup call
Samuel Sanders they’re called disclosing tablets. You can buy them on amazon :)
I wonder if you'd get similar results if you use the v-white for 2 minutes. Yes you have to do the whole two 2 minutes but it's 2 minutes of just holding it there.
What about IONIC toothbrush please? What’s your opinion and how does it work?
Oral-B clearly requires multiple techniques judging by the size of the brush, When that's done efficiently surely that's the best toothbrush as your cleaning every tooth back, to front and to the sides?
Kizzster as a hygienist I’d say oral b does a better job, but honestly what’s most important is proper technique. I use a manual brush with no issues.
RDH here. 👌👍
Debra LaRue ugh THANK YOU Debra! Thats what I’ve been trying to say lol. It’s all about the technique!
Hello, what do you think about the Oral B iO magnetic brush? Thank you for replay.
Just what I was looking for, good job!!!
I swear
What's the difference between ultra thin pro gum care and sensitive clean brush heads ? What's best for very sensitive teeth can you please help me and Thanks ( these are oral b brush heads )
Hey so I just started brushing my teeth with an electric toothbrush, and I use a Oral-B vitality dual clean.how would you say that is?
It makes sense to me that the Oral B is effective. With its size and shape users can kind of brush between the teeth. I have a Sonic. I plan to get an Oral B.
Do you feel like the timing on the 30 second toothbrush was the issue? If it was used longer would it be effective? I like the concept behind the design that it brushes each quadrant equally, but I was skeptical about the time.
Can you please do a review the triple bristle and tri toothbrush
Thank you so much! Just bought a Burst after getting an awesome teeth cleaning. It seems so soft like it isn’t doing anything. But my teeth feel so clean . I did notice that despite my vigilant brushing and flossing , some of the tea stains are returning to my teeth after only a couple of weeks post cleaning. I’m
So sad . Thank you 😊
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and opinions. Guess I need to brush longer than I have my 1st 74 years < Grin >
Is there any dentist that you recommend here in South Carolina ?
Why is the burst brush the only one not listed in the description??
Aren't you supposed to slowly pass over each octant with the Sonicare?
Loved this video!! Thank you so much for doing this experiment no one was using those dyes to show if the brush was really working or not and i didnt understand why so this video was excatly what i wanted to see i will definatly be getting the burst brush after my sonic kicks the bucket.. If it ever will lol ive had mine for years probably like 5 years and i just replace the heads when needed cant complain about getting my moneys worth thats forsure but you definatly sold me on the burst!!!
Why not use the V white for two minutes or more?
Did you do a new test like this with 2022 brushes?
I purchased the Burst toothbrush and received it in the mail today. I like that they send you a brush head every 12 weeks for $7. And if your unit stops working, they'll replace it for free. I also read the brush is not made out of nylon like other brush heads are. When i used it today, my gums didn't feel cut up afterwards. It's just my first day but I like it!
Did you purchase it off the website?
@@thanamesny7807 yes!
@@dh6320 how are you currently liking it ? Is it gentle on your gums? What model did you get? Do your teeth feel more sensitive ?
@@SleeplessinOC only one model type from this brand. The only difference are the colors of the brush. I went to a dental check up and the dentist said my teeth and gums are looking good and whatever im doing to keep it up. I have never had a dentist give me those comments before.
2:24 I'm laughing because this is honestly how I feel about Oral-B
Thanks for this review, I love how in depth it was! I use the Burst toothbrush (After using the sonicare diamond clean for years) and I was convinced that it didn't work as well because the vibrations weren't as strong and even the vibrations per minute was less than the sonicare one, but this review has shown me that the Burst works just as well! No more receding gumlines for me!
Now that you've have tried 3 different brands, which do you use? Did you switch from Sonocare?
4:47 The burst looks really rough on the gums.
Rinsed before showing result on the burst. Curious.
There in Europe we cannot buy Burst products. So we're stuck with Sonicare or Oral b. I have now sonic toothbrush from Oclean and I find it's being better than other two.
I thought with the soni care toothbrush your not suppose to scrub back and forth?
So what's the name of the burst one? It won but you don't have it in the info box or tell us the name?
can you skip floss if you use those water jet floss things?
What is this purple/pink toothpaste I keep seeing people using in these toothbrush videos
Honestly I have low calcium & mine is stuck yellow which brushed & everything. Which I don't know what to do anymore.
@@FunnieApple i don't let it bother me too much
In my opinion Oral B is better than Phillips.
So burst is the winner, so you link the EZZI Sonic Electric Toothbrush? Would you please explain why or how the EZZI is better?
Take care. Doug
Good vid. It would have been interesting to see how you would have done just brushing without electric help. Just curious.
