The highest percentage of use case scenario for these are keys or using that big. Would you guys call waste of a ring? It will hang it on your dog and track it when it gets lost or stolen. So I'm fine with the way it is. I bought a leather case for it and it's hanging. On my wallet from vulkit That I purchased originally designed for a air tag. I replaced that case for one of these and i'm fine with it
Looks like older smarttags were easier to make it small form factor. I was able to throw away all plasting casing, attach battery to PCB, tape everything and still make it working without soldering. Thanks to that I was able to hide it into the hollow plastic parts of stroller for example. But your wallet mode for ST2 looks also cool, I am thinking about to make this one. Even the model looks simple, you could share it.
I'm using this for my wallet. If it can't fit with the loop, I'll just cut it off and put glue over the cut. The loop appears to not have anything involved in the actual tag's function inside it. Update: It fits perfectly without cutting the loop. And has saved my ass a few times.
I'm fine with the design. I purchased the white one and i'm using it on a wallet which has a leather loop that hangs a air Tag Leather keychain, but I bought my own keychain. To put this in and it's hanging there. Most people are not gonna understand why the ring is there, but the most common use scenario for this is putting it on keys or hanging it on your dog's collar. So when they get lost, you can track where they are. I find it more beautiful and better looking than the first generation
Legendary video. If you tear down one and convert to a clock or arm band small enought to help a parent track a 3 year old, it would be awesome.... since air tag already is already there and samsung still sleeps... Tks
The new design isn't great for attaching to a cat collar, it dangles too low. I'm hoping I can modify it to remove the ring section and somehow attach the smaller part flat against my cat's collar.
looks like another antena under the PCB (same side as the piezo), you can see the extra two contacts, and a metal dark "ring" going around the periphery ? Maybe one for UWB, one for BT ?
@@rayj1988 just checked Samsung's official specs and site, turns out there's NFC also built-in ! "Find it in Lost Mode" "Give your item a way back to you. When Lost Mode is activated, the Galaxy SmartTag2's NFC (Near Field Communication) displays your registered contact information and message on the finder's smartphone, regardless of the OS."
I'd really like to do a project of reducing the size of the smart tag so that it might better fit in the collar of a small animal like a cat, the big tags the cats will not like and try to take off, im thinking of removing the PCB like this then 3d printing a small case or just sealing it in epoxy
please make a video on how to convert it into a small form factor for wallets, will be really helpful,u are the only one online that is doing this type of stuff
Based on this video, I don't see any connections to any electronics between the lower half and the ring half. With that in mind, do you think it would be viable to cut the top half off with no consequence? And beyond this, shouldn't the dimensions then result in ever so slightly smaller than an Apple Airtag? If so, that would mean that we could use Airtag accessories that are out on the market. Any thoughts on if this would be viable?
That's what I was Comming here looking for was max voltage another TH-camr taken apart an airtag and has soldered on 2 wires with a battery holder with a 3.6v Li-SOCI2 LS14500 Battery (not very small so for larger objects, personally I would have soldered directly onto the battery and skipped the battery holder with a switch) provides a 10 year life airtag these are not rechargeable as intended for long term use like smoke/CO Detectors and have basically no per month leaking like a rechargeable one does (the battery probably outlast the device)
Would not be that hard you would just get a 12v to 3v adapter and hard wire it in. I wouldn't do it that personally the battery should last a decent time before needing a change. Also if someone disconnects the battery for the car the tag wouldn't work.
I just buy Solum smart tags off Ebay for $17.99. Same functionality as this tag but way smaller case. Same company who supplied Samsung. The only tiny difference is that the Solum tag does not support the "tag left behind" notification feature. But I never use that feature anyway. All other aspects are the same. Same everything, from the button to the beeps.
@@rayj1988 EBay seller name is joybox45. Note: seller is away until December 26th. Last time I ordered they arrived faster than the first time since the seller messaged me stating they now have a US distributor.
For something that is gonna be next to my keys at all times, you pried that open a bit too easily. Kinda sucks for an item that's gonna be constantly bashed around, specially compared against steel keys. The battery flew open on the first throw when it slammed against a wall like an old phone
They made it bigger instead of smaller?! The previous one was already too big compared to airtags! Why even make such absurd loop it it's no openable, like a carabiner or something.
@@rayj1988 I have nice idea. on aliexpress there are 40x20x3mm lipo batteries with protection circuit on it. Only thing holding me back is voltage, this is 3.7V, and I hope it can survive 4.2V... Are you sure about voltage or are you just guessing by original CR battery?

Someone at Samsung needs to get fired for insisting on doubling the size for the stupid ring.

I'd be interested if it didnt have the obnoxious ring on it. Such a waste of space when it could have been a small lanyard loop.
Totally agree.
Other than putting it in a wallet it has no other use tho and you can buy the first generation but it a bit bulky

When i get mine, I intend to dremel off the ring and glue it to a drone. Let's see how it goes

If can convert to the size of airtag, it will be easy to use existing holders.
Hi there. Interesting vid. Can one remove the metal ring and then cut it with a Dremel to make it smaller? Or does the ring play a role? Thanks.
Great material! Thank you for that!!!

How hard would it be to hard wire one into a cars 12v battery supply so it could be hidden and left without worrying about battery changes.

Any luck with small form factor project. I tried but unable to detect tag over cloud. Only if in same room or close by
I've been using this in my wallet with no issues.
