Thanks, respect for showing the whole process opening the device! I hate when in most tutorials everyone cuts the video when they start to struggle and continue when they have passed the hard part.. lol
As mentioned in a comment, I used a hair dryer, it separated much more easily, the process went much faster, and in order to make it reusable I used a small piece of tape instead of scraping it with my fingernail, as described in another comment. Thank you for this detailed video, and thanks to the viewers for their useful comments. I used a small Phillips screwdriver for the screws, the whole process took 5 minutes in total. I did this because this device was hanging on my dog's collar and my dog was afraid of the sound of the device. Greetings from Turkey.
Does anyone know where the ringtones for the samsung tag are stored on your phone so then you could select a muted tone or install a silent tone and select that
Thank you sir 🫡 I'm dumping the AirTag and switching to the smarttag instead. As somewhat expected, the Samsung product doesn't work as intended, by not notifying a person's device as well as the AirTag, but this time it's in our favor. I will likely still pick up a GPS tracker because I'll be tracking a Puch Maxi moped that weighs around 85lbs.
Cheers this was really helpful. I'm planning to hide these in my campervan for extra peace of mind. Although apparently there's a new function where it will notify any potential thieves if the tag follows them for some time I hope it would psych any would be thieves out if I hide them well enough that they'd abandon the van if it comes to it.
So if someone has a cell phone it will yell them there's a tracker in the vehicle? Only they'd have to really search to find it? Where did you purchase this and did how much?
Great video! If it travels with you, it will only get notified on other samsung phones right? Or will it also be notified on an iphone or another kind of android phone for example?
Saw the RX TX pads and soldered wires to it, dremeled a 1mm slot for the wires to come out. Still works so going to assume this extends the range and for my use case (car tracking) im gunna add extra long antennas
Those pads are not connected to the antenna. They are used to communicate with the tag through serial, and that's why there are also other pads, respectively, for clock and reset
I had to do this myself in order to put it on my e-bike in the battery case. doesn't do much good if it's going to make all kinds of racket and thieves can find it.
So the would be thief will still know he or she's being tracked?? As they still get notifications on there phone there being tracked? Correct, so how to get rid of this feature, Is there no way in settings to not notify the thief
Seems to rather than destroying the tag speaker, it would be better to put a piece of electrical tags over each of the contacts the speaker will not work and later if you change your mind you could remove the tape to enable the speaker again.
Dear bigdave, may I ask: Mentioning a real Gps tracker (hard to afford, true)...But aren´t those too thick in dimension? (I want to sew one into my son´s schoolbag, for his safety on all his ways out there...)
Hey, I have placed a Samsung Smartag in my daughter's backpack wall. I slit it open and dumped it there. She will never know it's there. Does an amazing job at tracking her movements. But I thought Samsung Smartags don't notify people? Since when did they start doing this? Or do only new tags do this?
@@alienlatino2945 Hey, and did you take of one of the smarttag´ lids? So it´s only half the thickness? Or wasn´t necessary. I don´t know anything about it, sorry...
@@benstiller500 No you don't have to take off the lid and I will advice you NOT to do it, humidity will ruin the tag. The rubber seal and both shells must be left on for protection. Why do you want to do that anyways? The tag is small enough. The walls of my daughter's backpack are double layered so it was easy. Or try the bottom of the backpack, they are always double-layered there.
Yes, absolutely correct! But Samsung introduced a new feature whereby you are able to track any tag NOT owned by you. With other words if someone attached their tag to you or your belongings in order to stalk you or for whatever other reasons, you can find out with your app any foreign tag not belonging to you. Coming back to the gentleman's concern, if you have attached your tag to some belongings, any person having stolen your stuff can still check for a foreign tag the same way, if he has the same app on his phone. Depending on where and how well you have hidden the tag, he may or may not find it or remove it. Conclusion: the disabling of the speaker is pointless IMHO as your tag can still be located with the right samsung phone and its appropriate app..
@@danbeare5263 not being able to find it will work double as a psych out, scaring thieves into abandoning property as they know they are being tracked
Keep in mind samsung has not released an app for Apple or other androids to find your tag. Only other Samsung phones will receive the message. With Apple tags android does have an app to find it though you won't get a notification you can at least scan for the tag. Also Apple allows the notified person (not owner) to play the music. I do not believe samsung does anything more than notify the would be assailant to the fact you're in the vicinity of it.
OR JUST PUT SOME TAPE OVER THAT !!! You don't need to do a monkey job , and you can still reuse if you want to on a later date , just thake the tape off , easy...

Cover the contacts with thin tape, then its reversible.
Why would you want to tho? Reselling it with speaker broken is probably easier than with speaker working.
yeah the first thing came to my mind...I seen people even removing the whole speaker on airtags :D

Gramps ain't know how to use the touch-screen button to dismiss the notification but he knows to rig that tag! Love it!
🤣🤣🤣
What are you going to do, ask the thief you are tracking to give you his phone so you can dismiss notifications? Get a grip dude.
@@alienlatino2945 bro relax it was a joke
Thanks. My 4 wheeler, side by side and all my othen rigs are getting a sam sung tag without a speaker. Stealth tracking
Thanks for video. Im still debating between smart tag or airtag.
Thank you very much for this video, wanted to try to remove the battery myself but might have broken it. Great explanation!
You can easily remove the battery by just opening the back cover.
place a small piece of tape over one of the contacts. That way you have options.

6:37 to save everyone the trouble. Also, the new Samsung tags do not have removable batteries so not sure this trick will work anymore.
Does it disable the same way on the st2 ?
