Moving LEGO to the Studio!

  • In this Studio update, we start moving all the LEGO! To move efficiently I decided it would be best to rent a van for a couple weeks. The van will allow us to move massive loads and having it for an extended period will allow us to take our time with the moving process. Specifically today we focused on the mezzanine space and moved all of the LEGO parts!

    Seeing how it's getting set up, you might want to consider blacking out all of the back windows, not just for the TV, but for saving your LEGO from light damage.

    • @salvation7362
      @salvation7362 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      He has sheets of 3/16 coroplast in the windows, the light you see is heavily defused and in no way can UV get through that plastic material. It also doesn't yellow for several years so it will remain white for a long time.

    • @johnybravo863
      @johnybravo863 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      In australia they yellow straight out of the box . Block the light

    Won't the LEGO become discouloured by the sunlight from those windows behind the drawers?

    • @imaudi4950
      @imaudi4950 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +27

      I was thinking the same. I'm not sure the window coverings block enough uv to stop it from discoloring plastic/bleaching printed cardboard (if sealed sets are stored on top for any length of time).

    • @kristophersteel
      @kristophersteel 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +26

      It blocks enough but in theory, if he's not using the windows, they should just be blocked out. Not a fan of covering the windows but it's not my studio :)

    Moving is stressful. What I would suggest would be to store some of your sets in the shelves on the mezzanine while you move the Lego across and set up some tables to store Lego on while you get the shelving sorted out in the rooms. If you have some large plastic boxes to put your builds in they will be better than cardboard as they are more robust. The shelves in your basement are pretty full up so it will be quite a job moving them over.

    Loving the progress dude - definitely an epic move - just a thought to make your move more efficient. Do like you mention and bring all the city stuff to the studio, but leave the city tables at home for a minute. Move all your built sets from the shelves onto the city tables. Then move all your shelves in. After that move all the built sets in and place them directly onto the shelves, while leaving the city stuff in the center. This will open up the basement so you don’t have to worry about breaking any sets while you move the city tables and will open up the area by the stairs in the basement to move the large city tables. Then everything is at the new studio and you can tinker away without having to hang onto the U-Haul van while assembling tables etc.

    Hi Bricksie. Wow! Your mezzanine workspace looks amazing. I love it. So much space to work and relax at times too. Good luck with all the trucking of the sets. I think your plans for the move across are very well thought out. Hope the twins enjoyed swimming.

  • @bricks_in_space
    @bricks_in_space 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    What a great first day of moving. Taking your time is the best decision. Gives you the flexibility to make decisions on where things go and not having to move things over and over again because you are being rushed. I would think the open area on top could be a flex area where you plan layouts. Or maybe even a play area for the kids. You don't have to rush to fill it up. I love that you moved the parts bins to be on top of the tables. It makes it so much easier to access the bottom drawers without needing to bend over all the time.

  • @xvidarx
    @xvidarx 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    I would center the TV on the wall closer to the kitchen, and move the black shelves somewhere else, maybe closer to the kitchen if there is space or on either side of the TV. If not center on that wall, it should be far enough away if you want to expand the lego parts wall all the way to the end, and have access to the parts and have enough space to roll the work tables.
    Or simply change that corner where the TV currently stands into a play corner for the kids. Maybe get that modular sofa the kids recently got :) Lots of options, but TV in the corner is personally not my cup of tea.
    I also don't know how good the carpets are with water spillage, but I would concider a plastic mat under the fridge and watercooler to collect spilled water and condensation to save the carpet from water damage.
    I love all that you've done to the place, and look forward to some more Lego building. Whatever you end up doing, do what is best and most practical for you :)

    13:59 The shelving units for the sealed sets looks cohesive with the black tv and the trash can. Yellow boxes on the shelves will pop!! Good choice for even a little bit. But you can always use them in the first 2 rooms or take them apart and put them under tables.
    16:14 You can get a sectional couch and make a corner. Or get another couch like your kids have and play around with that layout.

    Hi Jordan, just a thought. Turn the Billy bookcases upside down. then take out the shelves that are below desk level and add the Billy cupboard doors to create hidden storage. Store the removed shelves on top of the bookcase hidden inside what is currently the base. That will clean up your under desk area/look. Then get some white laminated boards, similar to the current tables of the lego city and fix it to those wooden roof rafters at the top of the bookcases to finish up the top and give a clean white background behind whatever lego sets you end up displaying on top. Hope that helps?

    The new studio is really looking sick! I really can't wait to see the final result. I have a suggestion with the computer setup, maybe you could get a second monitor and have a two monitor setup. Many TH-camrs usually have only 1 monitor, but using 2 will make it easier when editing videos so you no longer have to split screens or when you're editing and doing a live stream.
    As for myself, my move's ending in May and my setup is nearly complete. My city has yet to be started on as I need another desk and have been working on making my office space be my clock museum since I do collect clocks as another hobby.
    Good job to both Jordan and Josee Bricksie for working together on moving the Lego sets and parts!

    People always underestimate sizes when in a new space. Either "this will be plenty" or "this might be tight" and inevitably it turns out they were way off. It' either way more than they think, or way less. I think when you get the city table in you'll be overwhelmed on how to fill it all up, it will be acres of empty space.
