I own assembly square, brick bank, bookshop, and corner garage. Just bought the police station which is on its way. My favorite is the brick bank. The exterior is so classy. So rich and NY stock exchange looking. The second floor is amazing in how it sacrifices floor space while still managing to have 2 separate offices on it. I don’t have much more space for modular buildings, but I’m definitely looking to get the jazz club. I always wanted the Parisian restaurant but with it being so much money now and me really liking the jazz club I think that’s what I’m going with. I love the sign outside of it, and that bottom ticket booth reminds me of the cinema in the original town plan set, a set I always wanted but was too young and didn’t have a job.

I will mention my top 6 favourites and explain why i like them
    #6) Market Street (not owned)
At first i would always place Market Street last because it looks bad to be fully honest, but after some thinking, people like buying the freshest produce from street markets, so the Market Street goes up, but it does go back down because once again it looks bad, the stairs are in the middle of the building, and there is no interior, and some of the pieces are rare and expensive to buy, but it is still a modular i would like to own one day
    #5) Brick Bank (not owned)
I LOVE THIS SET! While its a bit more boring, its boring in a good way, because banks aren't bright red and pink and have flying unicorns, they are boring colours because they are a serious building, and LEGO did well to show that, with a colourful-ish laundromat next to it which is "laundering" money from the bank in a funny little twist. While is a short modular and i would like it to be taller, it is still detailed inside to look like a bank from the 30s-50s, while the laundromat feels 70s-90s with a great clash of them together creating a great modular.
    #4) Fire Brigade (not owned)
Fire Brigade is another amazing set, it used 1x2 and 1x1 dark red/maroon tiles to create a brick texture that i like a lot, and they way the year '1932' is brick build is also nice, and i hope LEGO revives it in the future. the interior does lack to the modern modulars, but if you think about seeing it in 2009, it would be the best modular at the time, and the inclusion of a 1930's fire truck is also nice and i love how it looks.
    #3) Parisian Restaurant (not owned)
This set looks very very good, this set is a MUST HAVE! i don't own it yet but I'm dying to get it, while the stairs and eating area on the right will leave a gap between buildings it is still very nice, and LEGO went all out with this set to make it look as good as it does, with the way the textures on the ground floor are built, to the deco on the roof, to the roof itself with 2 layers of the curved slope pieces to add some depth and detail, its a truely incredible set.
    #2) Assembly Square (owned)
Assembly Square is an amazing set, its the first set i ever got, and i love it! its got some elements from every modular combined together into one massive set, its also got a printed piece i love a lot (a 2x3 tile with the front of the cafe corner set box on it) and LEGO were clever to add that apartment with an adult lego fan (most likely to show love to the adult fans of lego), and the shelf above the sofa bed with the first 3 modulars in the series (lego says Market Street is a modular as its on the shelf) But the main reason why i got this set was the bakery, the interior and play feature is amazing, and the way the old windows are build is a technique i never thought of.
    #1) Green Grocer (not owned)
This one is the most special to me by far, it looks fantastic, its the first modular with interior, it works well with modern modulars, its the best. While some of the pieces are rare and expensive in this set too, its still a fantastic set and i cant wait to get it when i can.

It is hard to judge the Modular buildings. I do agree with the 19th and 18th buildings whole heartedly. I just started collecting these on January 29th this year so far I have 15 of the 19. Mkt St, green grocer, corner cafe, and the fire brigade are the only ones I have not acquired. Fire Brigade will likely be my next purchase. Followed by Green Grocer. If I buy Cafe Corner it will have to get an interior. Mkt St will only be a low buck purchase if at all. I know it is considered a modular, it just hasn’t aged well at all. So far they have not cost what has been expected and I am happy with my 15 purchases. I would move the Assembly Square up as it is one of the only Modular’s that stands well on its own. The Boutique is an eloquent build but the flesh tone color is a weird choice. The corner garage while having the odd vet office still is a good build and the functional lift adds to its rating for me. The town hall is the anchor for the city and the police office adjoining. I am sure when I get the Fire Brigade it will find its place by the town Hall or Museum. The diner with the colors and gym is a perfect 50s 60s throwback hard to place but fits well to me between the corner garage and Jazz club. The Brick Bank not initially well accepted has probably the best story line. It looks the part and like the Town Hall is another city anchoring set.

My one complaint about the more modern sets is that they insist on incorporating play features often to the determent of the design. Lets face it these are expensive sets basically brought by adults who then put them in their town/street display and never open them again little own get their hands inside to twiddle knobs and slide panels. If I was to pick a set that suffers the most from unneeded play features its the detective office, the office was also the first set released when masonry bricks were a thing and lego went to town with them, leading to and uninspired build. I think the most underrated modular is the fire station the building techniques that went into that set especially on the facade still hold their own today.

The roof giving you a Chinese restaurant vibe? Well that's specific, also the way you explain it does it make sense to me. The two architectural styles clashing, I understand, but to say it looks gives off the vibes of a restaurant, can you further explain that? I see the Chinese theater inspiration, but the way you explain it makes it confusing. Also 19 and 18 are justified, Market Street having a terribly built outdoors market structure (yes, the side thing was supposed to be an outdoor market). And yes, I am surprised by the choices of the rankings. Besides the wording of number 17, I understood everything else and the justifications of each ranking.

Lucas, I just found your channel and really have enjoyed your Lego content thus far, with the exception of this video. I think ranking modular buildings is a lazy way to click bait views because you can’t objectively ‘rank’ these very different sets even though they are in the same product line up. It’s like if someone tried to”rank” Italian dishes from worst to best. It’s too subjective to do based on individual tastes and experiences. However if you are comparing different iterations of the same product, such as ranking all the different X-Wing fighters Lego has released over the years, that is more of a specific comparison that can be more objectively ranked with a degree of authority. It would be best to compare modular buildings as your least favorite to your favorite as your personal opinion. All of your opinions in your video within that context of subjective perspective are absolutely valid. However ranking these sets as an absolute authoritative statement is deceptive.
