A quick addendum for some of the entries. The only Multi Raid 2 character that made it into WO3 was Cai Wenji (By technicality because she was an add in dw7 first). They COULD Add in the rest of MR2 characters because of the nature of some of these characters (Shi Huangdi, King Mu, Etc.) and the fact that there are WO Characters in both Strikeforce games (either playable or as boss encounters). Li Dian's DW9 VA (Maxwell Chase) held a reddit AMA on the DW Subreddit. Apparently He WAS going to voice both Li Dian and Yue Jin, After Max voiced a few lines until the VA company found out the context between those two and so Yue Jin was given a different VA. Guo Jia's DMC inspired outfit is based on his dw7 outfit, meaning that this costume was from DW7 and not DW8.
A someone who is friends with Doug Stone (the Voice Director for for DW4 and voice of Xu Zhu and Zhang Jiao for 4 through 8), he says the VA strike had nothing to do with it because he wasn’t even informed that his roles were taken. The truth of the matter is that Koei Tecmo is just cheap.
@@JunGaGotoku If you're talking about Kakyoin's voice in the OVA, then that was Doug Boyd who played Maxi in Soulcalibur 2, otherwise in the new anime its Kyle Hebert.
On the topic of Diaochan/Lu Bu unique interactions, a similar rage mechanic can be seen during the final battle of Jin's historical route in DW8 Xtreme Legends (can't confirm if that happens in the normal version too). Defeating Xingcai before Liu Shan will trigger a unique interaction where Liu Shan panics, urges his servants to rush Xingcai to safety and then enters rage mode. Pretty cool detail for a character that is supposed to act like an aloof fool.

I've been a hardcore DW fan for most of my life + the fandom's always been pretty small, so seeing all these inside jokes laid out on an iceberg chart is incredible 😁 especially 31:08 LMFAOOOOO I remember that Madden gif maker from the Tumblr days I WAS THERE 😂😂😂 Great video!!!
Honestly, I never thought that Sima Yi's relationship with Zhang Chunhua ruined the character. I think it adds a more human side to him as well as a bit of catharsis knowing this over the top villainous arrogant genius can get reduced to a henpecked husband.
Agreed. I personally like that Chunhua gives him a new dynamic and side to him. It’s what I love about Warriors, while you can always expect certain things like a great showdown between Zhuge Liang and Sima Yi, other things get changed a bit by the new characters in that game. I remember I didn’t care for Gan Ning as a kid in 4, but then I started to like him once he got a foil in Ling Tong in 5. Nobuyuki’s introduction gave Yukimura an antagonist in SW4 and made his story better than ever. I love the things they do to give a fresh take on the same old stories we know and love by heart.
yeah, it adds more dimension to his characters, and if they decided to make him a scheming and ruthless father, I don't think both of his sons will grow like the game portrays lol.
I agree. As a woman and someone who actually really likes playing as Zheng Chunhua, I feel like her being added to the games made Sima Yi more tolerable and enjoyable as a character.
in 2008 i was trying to get 100% achievements on Dynasty Warriors 6. I saw the 2008 olympics live on TV and for sure they had the victory screen music playing during one of the ceremonies
"a female and unmasked Wei Yan" brother, imma be honest, idk if these words should've been uttered upon the earth lol, most cursed thing i've ever heard about this franchise
7:30 Bless you for all eternity for this one. When you brought up voice acting and then mentioned DW3 I immediately thought of "Feel the power of my magic" one of my buddies and I still say this to each other and its been like 20 years. Will never forget hearing that for the first time and laughing ny ass off. And whats worse is I remember it being one of the first levels. They just came out swinging with that terrible performance
25:07, these conversations also exist in DW Godseekers, including the only interaction that Diaochan and Lu Lingqi ever have in the series (read my comment in reply)
Lu Lingqi: How do I truly feel about you?... When I look at you like this right in front of me, I feel so torn and confused... Diaochan: You hate me deeply, surely. I was the one who whispered to Lord Lu Bu and led him to kill Lord Dong Zhuo. Lu Lingqi: That would be the natural reaction, but for some reason my feelings are more complex. When my father was in Luoyang, he always looked so stern and dissatisfied. He only ever smiled when he was with you. I loved his face at those times. So I find that I don't hate you as much as one might expect. Diaochan: Lady Lingqi. Thank you for saying that. Lu Lingqi: Yet, I still cannot forgive your deeds. I can only hope that the passage of time will heal these mixed feelings.
i have a fun fact to share on dynasty warriors 5 - wu zhang plains: if you're playing on shu side you can prevent zhuge liang death by killing jiang wei first. The easy way is to use huang gai friendly fire bomb and make jiang wei health drop to 1, after that you can lure the enemy to hit jiang wei
About Zhang Liao voice sudden change, somehow i didn't find it weird. In fact, i think it was spot on. You see, from the first time i saw him in DW5 i always thought "Why this Arabian man in a game about Chinese history?" derived from his moustache and his helm that looks like Arabian wanderer. The voice was unique enough for me to think, "Yeah, he's different from the rest. He's Arabian after all" so i enjoy it. The fact he's still a badass just make me think that this Arabian man can pull his weight off among many Chinese renowned Warrior. Xu Huang also has this "Arabian" look Disclaimer: I know both are Chinese Warrior. Their design just looks like Arabian to me
I thought i was the only one who think about that😂 i was 9 at time back then. So i really just play it randomly, like the point is blue is friend, red is foe.
Great video, really enjoyed your commentary and how creative some of these were. DW4 concept art was so cool to see how those characters would have looked with that game’s aesthetic if they had been added playable. Honestly one of my favorite aesthetics in the series
43:57 Fun fact about the DW1 scene of Xiahou Dun voring his own eye: this is actually based on an actual legend of Xiahou Dun. In Chapter 18 of the Romance of the Three Kingdom novels, Xiahou Dun is ambushed by Lu Bu's general Cao Xing during the Battle of Xu Province. The pain was so agonizing that he immediately tries to pull the arrow out, but accidentally yoinks his entire eyeball from his eye socket as well. In a display of true alpha male energy, he shouts, "This is my father's essence (or sperm depending on how you translate it) and my mother's blood, how can I discard this?! (父精母血,不可棄也!)" and proceeds to swallow his own eye. Then he rides out and kills Cao Xing in the same battle. This story is commonly known as 拔矢啖睛 or 'pulling out the arrow and swallowing the eye', and is definitely one of the wildest RotTK legends out there.
Wen Yang is not a reincarnation of Zhao Yun, the reason why he acts similar to him is becouse he is a big fan of Zhao Yun. In WO4 they have a intereation in the main camp together and Wen Yang is pretty much fanboying at that moment. Asking him to say the line "sally forth" and all that stuff. Also as much as i want it to be true DW strike force 3 was definitely not planned mainly becouse not even DWsf2 was released in English And the special strike force skins in WO3 were made only for WO since thats the time when they were made.
on "Jin was supposed to be purple": it has been nearly 20 years since i played it, but I recall "Jin" in Sima Yi's story was either Purple or White in Dynasty Warriors 4. From what I remember, you only got to play those Jin battles with Sima Yi, and basically all units, your forces and enemy, were generics, as no one from that era sans Jiang Wei (who shows up in the earlier ones) had been introduced yet.
I always wanted a Dynasty Warriors Iceberg. As a DW fan since 5 I am surprised I didn't knew about many facts. Amazing video, I would love you to make an iceberg of other Warriors franchises in the future.
40:40 The color purple was (if I recall correctly) connected with the Imperial Court (the Han officers during the Yellow Turban Rebellion wore purple and Dong Zhuo's faction wore purple because they had control of the Emperor), so Jin almost being purple (and Sima Yi wearing purple) was a small nod to the fact that eventually the SIma family ends up on top.
One thing about Jin: the first to receive the title king/prince of Jin was Sima Zhao, after his conquest of Shu. So, technically, we have a Jin ruler in the game.
@@lewisaino not exactly, as king/prince was only a title that still under the emperor(think of a nobility title equal or maybe above the grand/archduke) He's more like Hideyoshi. the one who deposed and made himself the emperor is his son, Sima Yan. So i think Sima Yan is the Ieyasu.
When i was playing split screen in DW4 my firend was dying and i told him retreat and dont look back. He retreated for a short moment, then he looked back, and in that moment an archer killed him.
Aww man, no mention of the back street boys attack the peon enemies used to make where they all line up and do the same leaping slash attack in unison! Classic PS2 DW feature. Great video, love seeing a good DW video instead of a negative one.
Ironically the only playable officer who's officially part of the Jin dynasty is the advisor Jia Chong, and he's dynasty warriors 8 Ending for jin strongly implies that he's probably is the one responsible behind sima zhao sudden death a year later after conquest of shu but obviously this is speculative reading on that ending... and also Cai wenji name is pronouced as *"Tsai"* not Cai :) technically the disc swap feature was used eventually in Sengoku basara games starting with 2007's Sengoku basara 2 heroes which served as expansion for original 2 on the ps2, there likely could have been unknown obscure example but that's as earliest as I'm aware off, Fun fact is that supposedly developers at capcom would often omitt or deny dyansty warriors inspirations for DW and would often cite their other IPS instead, it makes you wonder if the lawsuit had anything to do with it When it comes to Xiahouji, I was bit more open until I see the full game but turned out to bit worse than I expected, now ROTK adaptations specially DW in general aren't stranger to omitting certain scenes to make certain side look brighter (Liu bei cannibilism, leaving behind his family, yetting his son, Forcing his adopted son to commit suicide under advice of zhuge liang, Guan yu being menance in Jingzhou, Cao Cao genociding Cities and Fa Zheng open corruption by abusing his position, The last specially was also consider controversial pick for series but was actually handled far better as necessary evil compared to her) but also often it's easy to look past these aspects since the story don't acknowledge them so they technically don't exist in that timeline, but Xiahouji even putting aside justifying being forced to into being a concubine after being napped by shu troops, it just seems laughable bad that the relationship just looks far more akwards than dev intended, more older looking design would definitely soften the blow Also not mentioned on the video but there's actually a decently lengthy Comedic manga adaptation series based of dynasty warriors series that also ran from dynasty warriors 2 up to 5 with volume count varying and having decent number of artist contributing, premise is that it takes popular moment from the games and parodies them, even video game mechanics from the games like the health pick up are acknowledged as punchline for gags, Samurai warriors series also received same treatment briefly
To be honest suspect Xiahouji is one of those characters they avoided using for quite some time until they were running out of notable female characters to include. But there's no way they can make the could use her without heavily sugar coating the what happened to her.
I grew up on Kessen 2 before i discovered the reat of the series. Even among what few Warriors fans i come across, im the only one who ever knows about it. It honestly feels really good seeing it appear in a video
I actually think Xiahou Ji has immense Hypothetical potential and explains a lot as to why Xiahou Ba defection is preventable. Imagine them saving her. It would definitely make Zhang Fei look bad but he kinda already does
Eh, Koei would never want their precious golden boys from Shu to look too bad tho, except Liu Shan because that bum destroyed what the holy messiah Liu Bei built.
Wen Yang is not a reincarnated Zilong, hes just a massive fan that grew up on the tales of Zilong's heroics. A line in RotK the novel even compared his actions during the raid on Sima Shi's camp at Yuejia to Zilong's one man army exploits at the Battle of Changban. 10:40 theres more than one. Zhuge Liang is considered the most intelligent chinese person to have ever lived and is a god of wisdom. Theres even a village in china full of his descendants and they supposedly all have above average IQ. Zhao Yun is one of the most celebrated chinese people ever and is a constant in their dramas and theatre. Cao Cao is famous because of his poetry along with his son Cao Zhi. Diao Chan is in the 5 ancient chinese beauties. The three kingdoms period is the most famous and most adapted period of chinese history, all of the characters are famous pretty much. 31:05 theres a clip from the 2010 three kingdoms tv show called "liu bei would hurt a child" showing this I agree 5 is the best one, 3 probably 2nd best.
I'd like to add Peng Guo's San comics and the eyeball dumpling inside joke to the bottom of the iceberg. Very very obscure but occasionally referenced by the community.
So, “Renbu” 連舞 can roughly be translated as “chained dance”, hence the “chain” count instead of “combo” in DW6. The “dance” part is a thematic choice as what is called “Musou Attack” in English is translated from “無双乱舞” (musou ranbu), or Musou “wild/boisterous dance.”
The Dynasty Warriors movie was really bad, but what makes it entertaining was all of the easter eggs and shot for shot recreations of different intros and cutscenes throughout the series! My favorite detail was them indirectly mentioning the “KO Count” by saying how the “heavenly weapons” makes it’s wielder more powerful the more enemies they kill lol
There really is nothing quite like the simple catharsis of a Musou game. Sometimes you're not in the mood for a challenge and just need a good power fantasy that only the application of an anime AF weapon to thousands of hapless mooks can provide.
You have a talent to explain icebergs. I would like to see other icebergs, no matter what genre, but really I enjoy learning on some topic, because you explain very well. Subscribed!
I'd like to add few facts not mentioned in the video. I feel like there should've been a mention of the "crossover spinoffs" at the top of the iceberg, like "Dynasty Warriors: Gundam" or "Hyrule Warriors". In "Dynasty Warriors 4" (and few other games in the series) Zhan Jiao's personality is completely changed in english voice-overs compared to the original japanese ones. In japanese, he is voiced as a raving lunatic. In english, he's voiced as a dignified holy man. Another thing about english vs japanese voice acting: in original japanese every character simply states "Enemy defeated!" when beating an enemy officer, while the english voice-overs had different lines for each character, like "Another soul has been judged!" or "Who else seeks death?". "Dynasty Warriors Online" was originally named "Dynasty Warriors: Broadband", but later changed the name (over a year after the initial japanese release, but before the release of the english version). There was technically a cross-over with the "Shin Megami Tensei" franchise in the form of a cameo - in the now-defunct MMO "Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine" players could obtain Wu, Wei and Shu uniforms, as depicted in then-current Dynasty Warriors games.
Finally someone has done this. I wouldve thought XthemastaX or KCZ would be the first to do it. Now we just need a Samurai Warriors or Sengoku Basara Iceberg
This has polished up some knowledge and the Xiahouji part really cemented the fact that she's a guilty pleasure fave of mine. Also note to self, do not mention the child thing and the fact that Ma Dai killed Wei Yan to my older brother.
Also something to add to the comment of Lubu appearing in Samurai Warriors 1, its not the first game he appeared in he also appeared in the survival modes in Samurai Warriors Chronicles alongside Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate characters Kyubi, Sun Wukong, and Orochi himself.
As someone who's been a big fan of the franchise for a long time, it's really cool to see people still enjoying the games and finding more and more things to talk about. I'm very glad this video was recommended to me!
I know I'm a year late to the party, but I distinctivley remember watching the 2008 Beijing Olympics with my parents & the DW6 music was playing in the background of the program. I think it was during one of the water events. It may have played for more events, but I only watched a few.
The force of Jin does get mentioned in dynasty tactics 2 with 90% of the wei army converting under Sima Yi'a rule after the battle of Chi Bi, Wei force marches into the Wu territory. Many officers are against the idea the dialogue complaints are pretty nice on the way to the wu capital city.
Aside from oddities like Zhang Fei being... Zhang Ba again and again when talking about Xiahouji, and Cai Wenji being Cai Wen Jai, it was mostly pretty good. I knew a good deal of what was here, but some things were new to me as well. I was surprised to see UNPC Cutscene Yuan Shu from DW4 not make the list as he apparently had a unique model in cutscene, but not in-game for whatever reason, haha.
That Cai Wenji's Erhu makes sense with her outfit.. ever since her release in dw7, i always feel off with her outfit.. it doesn't fit with a hard at all.. I really wished that they would stick with that erhu weapon.. since it felt more fitting in a chinese historical game setting
Great job on covering everything, I honestly didn't know or barely remembered half of these things. But it was splendid and honestly makes me wanna play some of the old games again 😅
I wish the many movesets and exclusive characters from dynasty warriors online came back, such as player surrogates such as Xiahou Bang, Sima Quan and Cao Wenming, Jamadhar, Snake Blade and Ogre Fist. Fortunately many outfits from the online games did return in dw8e onwards
Something I wished you mentioned when talking about Zhang Chunhua is how she was actually treated by Sima Yi. The games prortray their relationship as him being a loving and respectful husband but in reality he severely abused her. I don't remember all the details since i last read about this years ago, but I do remember something along the lines of him locking her in a closet and starving her for days several times. Ancient China sure was a time to be alive huh
Also with shi and zhao doing a hunger strike in protest of chunhua's treatment, and yi only stopping the abuse ONLY bc he feared for his sons' wellbeing
Ah archers. I remember Wu Zhang Plains in DW3 being the single worst level to play because of all the archers. They could destroy your mile long health bar in a few seconds on harder difficulties. Never bring them back lmao
As a massive fan of this series when i got recomended to this video i had the bigest smile on my face! Probably the best deep dive i have seen of this series by far :3
Amazing video and great stroll through memory and nostalgia! Also amyome that starts a comment w "you forgot xxxx" can sit on a lu bu spear is free to make their own video
I think the only bad thing about his wife being added was that she's always leave him in DW8E due to how Way of Life's Work and it for some reason gave him a Way of Life that put his personality on the same level as "goodie good" as Liu Bei while giving his wife a more sadistic personality, the game making a comparison to Liu Bei with him always felt super wrong, but It'd also decide bizarre decisions like "Lu Su? almost as evil as Dong Zhuo!" which still has me fuming to this day. also Ma Dai was classified as an "Evil" character too for some reason. Its been ages so I could be misremembering, but i remember these certain cases decently enough i think.
A few I could think you have missed 1. Liu Bei's facial hair removal was bs 2. Dw5 xl destiny mode never seen it again 3. All of the dw7 characters getting gender swap art 4. Koei giving us Wo long so we could forget about 9 which I'm not mad about 5. Guan Suo is not Guan Yu's son he only has two biological sons Guan Ping and Guan Xian that's it I can think of
Great video, love the trip down all the dynasty warriors games. Though it really is funny when you went about the Cao Cao and Cao Pi issue and then you proceed to butcher the names of a bunch of other characters, eg Cai Wen Ji. Love the video still though
Dw5, samurai warriors 2, and Orochi 2 were the last one’s i played. I really didn’t like the new designs and weapon changes from Dw 6 and up. They started to look and feel like power rangers whereas the old characters from Dw 3-5, Sw2 and Orochi 2 were exaggerated tastefully. I felt the gameplay mechanics and animation were also way more tasteful in my opinion.
Honestly shocked that the musou entry didn’t talk about how its sorta become the name of the game genre with even non warriors games being under the umbrella like the fate/extella games and the japan only kamen rider battride wars game
One thing about Jim Sterling is that he was the champion of Musou games in the west during the ps2 era - he wrote for Destructoid and was probably the only major gaming outlet that gave Warriors games positive coverage.
Years ago 80s or 90s, there was an animated movie that was mostly focused on Liu Be, if memory serves. All I remember was they were transporting refugees and was pretty well animated. Like Heavy Metal, American Pop, Fire and Ice good.
A neat DW3 thing is the item that can be located that upgrades your regular max level armored bodyguards into a separate skin officer with the strand of ribbon coming out of their hair. Once obtained it can be applied to even low level privates to change their look.
I think the issue with the "Realism" argument is they probably meant Authentic. I was of the opinion back as of DW6 and 7 that the weapons were just getting stupid, only a few prior were particularly outlandlish like the flute. While not realistic, they felt authentic as weapons in the era. Then you get many which are just ridiculous as it went. Now I still believe it's an excuse, they had far too few weapons even then, but I get the thought behind it.
Even then, you can limit weapon selection but make multiple distinct move sets with them. I think we can call agree we don't care about weapon repeats, we care about cloned move sets. (Even if you give different EX attacks or some other minor difference.)
@@Sorain1 Yeah I definitely agree there. I mean you look at say Zhao Yun vs Ma Chao in the older games, played completely differently. All that really matters. In fact, the way DW3 (forget if 5 as well?) had the 1st and 2nd tier weapons stats shared between all users of the same weapon type was pretty cool honestly. Pick up a new character already got a buffed up 2nd tier weapon since already played another sword user or whatever. If they'd use that system again I'd certainly not complain, of course more relevant when moveset was tied to weapon tier.
i started my dynasty warriors game with the 6th installment and i loved it regardless tbh, i love the outfit designs of sun shang xiang, diao chan, zhao yun and a few others instead of the current outfits we got later down the series. Especially sun shang xiang and cao pi, i love their weapons in 6 out of all the other versions. They should really bring the previous installment outfits into the newer versions, i loathed the dual chakram and the more tomboy-ish look of sun shang xiang.
17:00 Sima Yi's original Japanese VA died in between DW8 and DW8E, rest in peace, the new laugh is just not the same....(also he was married from Samurai Warrior's Gracia's VA), another VA that has died I know of is Takeda Shingen's from Samurai(I know this because he was also the VA for Heihachi in Tekken)
In Dyansy Warriros unleashed Chinese version Orochi and Da Ji appear as guest characters there in a special event WO2 PSP Japanese version has strike force outfits for some characters (only 3) Also in Smaurai Warriors chronocles Lu Bu can appear as well as some WO characters (Orochi, Sun Wukong, Kyubi) as bosses Lu Bu would have a 1vs1 with Tadakatsu Also in DW8 and 9 Zuo Ci refrences the mystic realm witch could imply that WO is canon to DW games
to go with the Licensed Credit Songs, one particular song, CIRCUIT, has got a lot of mileage behind it, it started as the End Credits theme for DW3, came back, in I think DW4 and DW 5 Empires installments, and si the end credits theme for the DW 8 Hypothetical Route.
Nostalgic Vibes... My first Dynasty Warriors that I was playing during my childhood days was DW4, a purely Masterpiece DW game in my opinion. My favourite Dynasty Warriors games of the Entire Franchise will always be 3, 4, 5 and 6 on PS2. 🤷🏻♂️✌️
Okay, Xiahou Dun pulling out and eating his own fucking eye in DW1 is one thing I did NOT expect and was not prepared for at all, I actually yelled when I saw It It has some serious Felix the Cat HET vibes if you know what I mean
I remember old comments from ages ago saying that the reason for him doing that was because in chinese culture at the time, cutting off/discarding a part of yourself was seen as throwing away parts of the body your parents gave you, so he ate it to "keep" it inside of him. Not really sure how accurate that is, but hey the entirely of RotK is filled with all sorts weird stuff like that.
On board with Warriors community since DW4 there were not many news here, some obscure games I even played when they were just released like MR2 and Blast. And yes, there was some rough time, some games like Samurai Warriors 3 Z or DW7 PC didn't see West unfourtantely. Thanks for huge portion of nostalgia, especially reminding me about Wang Yi theme. She had also great singer voice actress in the West as well, Mary McGlynn.
22:18 I remember seeing Lu Bu in Samurai Warriors Chronicles 3 for the PSVita and 3DS, If cleared certain things in Time Attack mode, I don't remember what conditions that make him pop out.
So I remember I ran like a board and looked up the encycpedia in Dynasty warriors 8 and found that Guan Ping is the second son of Guan Ding then became Guan Yu's son after Guan Yu took interest in him
A quick addendum for some of the entries.

I can only hope that the passage of time will heal these mixed feelings.
i have a fun fact to share
on dynasty warriors 5 - wu zhang plains: if you're playing on shu side you can prevent zhuge liang death by killing jiang wei first.
Xu Huang also has this "Arabian" look
Disclaimer: I know both are Chinese Warrior. Their design just looks like Arabian to me
I thought i was the only one who think about that😂 i was 9 at time back then. So i really just play it randomly, like the point is blue is friend, red is foe.
I loved when Rodger Craig Smith (stopped at DW8) Voiced him he definitely has that chivalrous knight look more European to me.
Yeah I don't know why fans thought it was a big deal when his voice changed. He sounded like a white guy.

Great video, really enjoyed your commentary and how creative some of these were. DW4 concept art was so cool to see how those characters would have looked with that game’s aesthetic if they had been added playable. Honestly one of my favorite aesthetics in the series
All and all great video. I also finally get my long awaited wish granted. The Mandi cameo was also a nice touch :P
Sima yi can be morally grey and absolutely whipped
46:17 I mean...the entire game sugar coats a lot of things, the relationship isn't the only thing.
Is like when they break your nose and you just put in on place
this true alpha male eventually only became a logistic officer because of his disability
Holy syet...
I used to be a general like Xiahoud Dun, then I took an arrow in the knee
@@admiralrodney3818 pull out the knee, and eat it... 🥲🥲
Also as much as i want it to be true DW strike force 3 was definitely not planned mainly becouse not even DWsf2 was released in English
And the special strike force skins in WO3 were made only for WO since thats the time when they were made.
it could be to do with the reference if not. they say his skills compare to zhao yuns.

Dynasty Warriors 8 Xtreme Legends
This was cool, and I liked that they were all actual references rather than some icebergs that get into conspiracy theories/creepypasta stuff
on "Jin was supposed to be purple": it has been nearly 20 years since i played it, but I recall "Jin" in Sima Yi's story was either Purple or White in Dynasty Warriors 4. From what I remember, you only got to play those Jin battles with Sima Yi, and basically all units, your forces and enemy, were generics, as no one from that era sans Jiang Wei (who shows up in the earlier ones) had been introduced yet.
White was Lu Bu's faction back in the day. Sima Yi's faction ws indeed purple.
This is the best video for dynasty worries series, great job dude, salute to you
This is a Wonderful Video. I learned more then I thought in a Single Night. Good Job WildCat! The Cameo was also a Nice Touch. :)
One thing about Jin: the first to receive the title king/prince of Jin was Sima Zhao, after his conquest of Shu. So, technically, we have a Jin ruler in the game.
He is the Ieyasu of the Dynasty 😂😂😂
@@lewisaino not exactly, as king/prince was only a title that still under the emperor(think of a nobility title equal or maybe above the grand/archduke) He's more like Hideyoshi. the one who deposed and made himself the emperor is his son, Sima Yan. So i think Sima Yan is the Ieyasu.
Also, Wang Yuanji lived long enough to have the title Empress Dowager after Sima Yan posthumously gave his father the title of Emperor.
When i was playing split screen in DW4 my firend was dying and i told him retreat and dont look back. He retreated for a short moment, then he looked back, and in that moment an archer killed him.
He shouldn't have looked back. RIP. 😢
You forgot dynasty warrior 5 empires failed ending where your character die due to old age
Aww man, no mention of the back street boys attack the peon enemies used to make where they all line up and do the same leaping slash attack in unison! Classic PS2 DW feature. Great video, love seeing a good DW video instead of a negative one.
Ironically the only playable officer who's officially part of the Jin dynasty is the advisor Jia Chong, and he's dynasty warriors 8 Ending for jin strongly implies that he's probably is the one responsible behind sima zhao sudden death a year later after conquest of shu but obviously this is speculative reading on that ending...
and also Cai wenji name is pronouced as *"Tsai"* not Cai :)
technically the disc swap feature was used eventually in Sengoku basara games starting with 2007's Sengoku basara 2 heroes which served as expansion for original 2 on the ps2, there likely could have been unknown obscure example but that's as earliest as I'm aware off, Fun fact is that supposedly developers at capcom would often omitt or deny dyansty warriors inspirations for DW and would often cite their other IPS instead, it makes you wonder if the lawsuit had anything to do with it
When it comes to Xiahouji, I was bit more open until I see the full game but turned out to bit worse than I expected, now ROTK adaptations specially DW in general aren't stranger to omitting certain scenes to make certain side look brighter (Liu bei cannibilism, leaving behind his family, yetting his son, Forcing his adopted son to commit suicide under advice of zhuge liang, Guan yu being menance in Jingzhou, Cao Cao genociding Cities and Fa Zheng open corruption by abusing his position, The last specially was also consider controversial pick for series but was actually handled far better as necessary evil compared to her) but also often it's easy to look past these aspects since the story don't acknowledge them so they technically don't exist in that timeline, but Xiahouji even putting aside justifying being forced to into being a concubine after being napped by shu troops, it just seems laughable bad that the relationship just looks far more akwards than dev intended, more older looking design would definitely soften the blow
Also not mentioned on the video but there's actually a decently lengthy Comedic manga adaptation series based of dynasty warriors series that also ran from dynasty warriors 2 up to 5 with volume count varying and having decent number of artist contributing, premise is that it takes popular moment from the games and parodies them, even video game mechanics from the games like the health pick up are acknowledged as punchline for gags, Samurai warriors series also received same treatment briefly
To be honest suspect Xiahouji is one of those characters they avoided using for quite some time until they were running out of notable female characters to include. But there's no way they can make the could use her without heavily sugar coating the what happened to her.
And then Jia Chong's daughter followed his step of scheming from the dark and make the war of eight princes happen.
31:05 theres a clip from the 2010 three kingdoms tv show called "liu bei would hurt a child" showing this
I agree 5 is the best one, 3 probably 2nd best.
5 is when they finally got difficulty right. 2, 3, and 4 relied on cheap gimmicks such as enemy officers getting back health.
Top tier video, and im totally not saying this because I contributed and therefore im biased.
Also Don't Forget That Games Is Friendly Fandom To Sengoku Basara (I Think Because Its According To TV Tropes)
Finally someone has done this. I wouldve thought XthemastaX or KCZ would be the first to do it. Now we just need a Samurai Warriors or Sengoku Basara Iceberg
I second this
Nah. I'm not really particularly into these games these days to be compelled to make something like this, honestly.
@@XthemastaX Makes sense, even The4thSnake stopped covering the games and OhMyyyJosh straight up quit around DW 9s release.
I miss the english dubbed dynasty and samurai warriors games. Great voices!!!
As someone who's been a big fan of the franchise for a long time, it's really cool to see people still enjoying the games and finding more and more things to talk about. I'm very glad this video was recommended to me!
You tryin to tell me Tomars voice is a downgrade??
I know I'm a year late to the party, but I distinctivley remember watching the 2008 Beijing Olympics with my parents & the DW6 music was playing in the background of the program. I think it was during one of the water events. It may have played for more events, but I only watched a few.
The force of Jin does get mentioned in dynasty tactics 2 with 90% of the wei army converting under Sima Yi'a rule after the battle of Chi Bi, Wei force marches into the Wu territory. Many officers are against the idea the dialogue complaints are pretty nice on the way to the wu capital city.
hell yeah another wildcat banger

Dw 6 did my boy Zhou Yu dirty
I'm a big fan of this series, so I'm glad to find someone doing an iceberg on it.
You played Superior from Dynasty Warriors 3 at the ending.
Dynasty Warriors 5 is my favorite game, cause of the Stories. ☺️
@manusiabumi7673 where can I read all of this please?
Ah archers. I remember Wu Zhang Plains in DW3 being the single worst level to play because of all the archers. They could destroy your mile long health bar in a few seconds on harder difficulties. Never bring them back lmao
Very well done iceberg coverage, awesome stuff 🔥🔥
I miss DWO so much. I played the Japan server long before the English server came out lol.
DW9 was just cursed
At least they aren’t treated like Wei Yan.
@@Sodier402 Wei Yan is that type of character that you know if he was created later, he would've been better treated.
should have added the austrian painter mustache in Dynasty warriors empire 8, even if just a joke, it was a fitting for an iceberg
Guan Suo is not Guan Yu's son he only has two biological sons Guan Ping and Guan Xian that's it I can think of
its impossible to capture everything
Great video, love the trip down all the dynasty warriors games. Though it really is funny when you went about the Cao Cao and Cao Pi issue and then you proceed to butcher the names of a bunch of other characters, eg Cai Wen Ji. Love the video still though
Capcom suein for a feature they patented but never used?! The fuck
Haven't watched yet, been waiting for this!
After all that...stuff going on Tier 6, Nightmare Fuel Cao Cao was just damn hilarious especially with that zoom effect
Idk if it’s the best but my fav DW is 6. The maps are huge and that campaign with LUBU is crazy
This franchise is severely underrated
One thing about Jim Sterling is that he was the champion of Musou games in the west during the ps2 era - he wrote for Destructoid and was probably the only major gaming outlet that gave Warriors games positive coverage.
Wow i am literally doing some browsing about dynasty warrior iceberg and this video suddenly showed up
Quality content. Wow.
Years ago 80s or 90s, there was an animated movie that was mostly focused on Liu Be, if memory serves. All I remember was they were transporting refugees and was pretty well animated. Like Heavy Metal, American Pop, Fire and Ice good.
I can confirm on the 2008 Olympics. I kept hearing the song in the swimming competition
Thank you for making this incredible video. The Dynasty Warriors series is big enough that it deserves it's own iceberg!~ 😇🤩
You are a true warriors of the 3 kingdoms
i started my dynasty warriors game with the 6th installment and i loved it regardless tbh, i love the outfit designs of sun shang xiang, diao chan, zhao yun and a few others instead of the current outfits we got later down the series.
In Dyansy Warriros unleashed Chinese version Orochi and Da Ji appear as guest characters there in a special event
WO2 PSP Japanese version has strike force outfits for some characters (only 3)
Also in Smaurai Warriors chronocles Lu Bu can appear as well as some WO characters (Orochi, Sun Wukong, Kyubi) as bosses
Lu Bu would have a 1vs1 with Tadakatsu
Also in DW8 and 9 Zuo Ci refrences the mystic realm witch could imply that WO is canon to DW games
to go with the Licensed Credit Songs, one particular song, CIRCUIT, has got a lot of mileage behind it, it started as the End Credits theme for DW3, came back, in I think DW4 and DW 5 Empires installments, and si the end credits theme for the DW 8 Hypothetical Route.
Okay, Xiahou Dun pulling out and eating his own fucking eye in DW1 is one thing I did NOT expect and was not prepared for at all, I actually yelled when I saw It
It has some serious Felix the Cat HET vibes if you know what I mean
It was metal as fuck, I wasn't expecting it either when I played it.
Dude I'm so showing that to my brother now that's his favorite officer
The eye ball eating was in the romance of the three kingdoms novels.

I remember seeing Lu Bu in Samurai Warriors Chronicles 3 for the PSVita and 3DS,
If cleared certain things in Time Attack mode,
I don't remember what conditions that make him pop out.
So I remember I ran like a board and looked up the encycpedia in Dynasty warriors 8 and found that Guan Ping is the second son of Guan Ding then became Guan Yu's son after Guan Yu took interest in him
