Back again, since i was getting some info on replacement fans for my X-Maxx's stock heatsink and this month i bought an older 1,100KV Hobbywing. And i plan to run it with the Max 6 that i already have in my truck or go with a Spektrum Firma 160 V2 which is similar to a Max 6 but it's more powerful and it runs better with a firmware update. I might also get the same Trencher tires and maybe an upgraded servo with the standard servo conversion since i don't think the stock Traxxas style servos can handle 7.4 or 8.4V coming from the BEC.
Oh nice dude! I have the hobbywing 1650kv on my mojave and on 8s it's amazing haha, you should try it 😉 kraton would be completely different to a Mojave though lol

Im into so many things I'll never figure out what to do. Your videos are really clean and to the point. Very good job.

@@MatthewSimm damn bro now I'm soo confused lol like I said before I'm new lol maybe it runs cooler with lower number kv but at the same speed lol I don't know but your video was insane 😅
My first xmaxx is basically stock. At first I was running stock pinion stock spur (18/54) with proline trenchers. I absolutely love those tires but due to the weight they really put a lot of strain on the gears. So I’m now running Badlands on it and I run 18/50. My 2nd xmaxx is running a 800kv HOBBYWING motor with a WFO Mount HOBBYWING max5 esc and 1.5 mod gears 30/33

@@MatthewSimm yeah that was also a big complaint of mine. Although with all the setbacks they are still one of my favorite tires because they actually let the Xmaxx be an XMaxx

I dont understand kv at all so im gonna ask. Why do some big motors have low kv and be considered better than an xmaxx stock motor for example?. Would a 800 kv motor be faster and better for backflips better than stock or would something with higher kv than stock be better? And why and how

I'm a little surprised to see this Max6 and 1650kv combo do standing backflips like nothing. I thought I was gonna have to get the Max5 + 1100kv combo to get mad performance, but this setup looks like it's pretty gnarly!
Yeah dude, that's what I'm using in this video 😀 fits perfectly. Also there is a max 8 but it's only 6s. You can also get a max 5 but that's a 200amp 8s esc and is made for Bigger motors such as the 1100kv and 800kv

No I didn't have this issue sorry dude, I was a bit hard to align but it fits. I had to cut the plastic at the front of the servo area but that's because my servo stuck out a bit at the front. Maybe you slightly bent the front bulkhead just enough to change to position?
Thanks for the feedback, it lines up with everything and I can screw it down but the servo horn won't line up with the support bearing when putting the front half back on. Forcing it was unsuccessful lol. Might have to settle for the traxxas mount instead
Great video...my xmaxx is has the max5 and 800kv set up..wfo motor mount, wfo mod1.5 30/35 gears..wfo titanium axle shafts...dual 40mm motor fans and single esc fan...ripple killer for smooth high speed ramp hits..

Hey! Does the legend answer? I have a question. I got the Xmax and just purchased the Max6 combo with 1100kv. What’s the best pinion and spur combo? I was going to do 30/25 1.5 but everyone was saying not to I’ll burn the Max6. Also going with the reef triple 7 servo if that matters. What do you recommend? Thanks for all your great videos.
I have the same hobbywing combo ESC n motor in my hobao tq7 conversion 1/8 buggy.....all 4 tires spin no problem....hopefully I'll hit the 💯 mph one day.....they said it'll do it no problem, gotta build my spool drive shaft for speed runs...no oiled diffs for speed runs
If you keep the motor in there let me know your findings with it, i have the same motor and esc in my cen reeper but have only ever ran it on 6s, no standing backflips on mine but it could be the diff fluid or how mines designed
Loved it! That triple backflip ability is frickin crazy. I’m still running stock motor and gearing with the Duratrax Hatchets. Blew out my steering servo on Saturday, so I’m sidelined until pay day. lol. Gonna have to get that metal geared one now. Oh shucks. 😂
Thanks man! But I'll be honest, I kind of gunned it and hoped for the best 🤣🤣 The savox I got is about the same price as the upgraded traxxas servo, but you'll need the gpm adaptor (I recommend it because it has the servo that fits the stock steering bearing) and I'd recommend a heavy duty servo saver 😀
It is only rated for 6s but I use 8s fine. It's all about heat, not letting it get too hot and with the big fans, it works fine. But use on 8s at your own risk haha
hey I'm like 98% sure I want an xmcxx like tomorrow literally lol. what can o do to make it a bit faster right toff the bat. I live across the street from a traxxis store so getting the parts is really easy lol. great vid!!!
Nice dude! You should totally get one. It comes with an optional speed spur gear, use that, plenty of speed! Bit they are know to break so I'd probably stick with stock gearing until you can order yourself some hardened steel gears (pinion and spur)
Do have a part number for the heatsink and fan shroud. Can't seem to find the correct heat sink for this motor. Great video. Definitely got a new subscriber here.
Hey thanks Chris! 😀 yes, I'd say in total, about 10 hours of editing, give or take an hour. I'm considering a 1100kv with that gearing, this combo is great, but maybe too high of kv haha
I bought all the same mods in this video before watching the video except I got the max5, not max6, yet to fit it all as I've also bought every green alloy part available, just waiting on the diff covers then I'll put it together
I love it bro, but, you don't want to gear up much if at all. I find the max6 will struggle with amp draw if gearing too high, also the stock heatsink and fans fit straight on and do a great job keeping it cool. With this setup, you don't really need 8s for bashing, but man it's fun haha 😆
Do you still recommend this setup for the Xmaxx? I’ve been seeing mixed reviews on it. The crazy thing is, I can sell my stock xmaxx set up and be able to buy this one. And I was wondering if it was worth it?
Sweet rig question for you im looking for more air control not worried about top speed i have a spectrum160 amp esc would this motor 1650kv get the job done yours was ballistic what gearing were you running ? Thanks in advance
I’m going with TP5870 (58x122mm)motor 1200kv and max5 with 20/35 1.5mod gearing and 2085X servo on 7.4v and flysky noble radio and also going with trenchers tires and it’s a beast but heavy with all the upgrades. Need to be little easy on hard landings to not keep full throttle when the car slams in the ground because the diffs take damage easy
And I don’t jump in ramps or on hard surfaces but yes they are heavy and the truck takes a beating but the air control is outstanding with those tires and the car does standing backflips easy on the trenches, I’m thinking of go with the widekit when it’s released in Sweden
Awesome video man, I ordered a max 6 1650kv combo like you have in this video but people are telling me that it will be way too underpowered for my xmaxx, but it's obviously not in yours, does it still perform OK because now I'm worried that the combo I ordered will be too slow in my xmaxx
It'll be fine dude, just don't gear up too much or it'll heat up too much, I found stock gearing is pretty perfect for this setup. You get more power and speed 💪

The savox I got is about the same price as the upgraded traxxas servo, but you'll need the gpm adaptor (I recommend it because it has the servo that fits the stock steering bearing) and I'd recommend a heavy duty servo saver 😀
@@MatthewSimm great advise! I’ll look into all options man!
Happy to help 😀
Hobbywing max5 esc paired with 800kv motor. Wfo 1.5mod gears 18/35. Wfo mount, and battery strap holder
That sounds sweet dude!
nice video amd thank you i thought 1650 is 6s only....
IVE NEVER SEEN A XMAXX DO A TRIPLE STANDING BACKFLIP?! WOW!
Haha, I love doing it, it's probably not great for the drive train but oh well
Do have a part number for the heatsink and fan shroud. Can't seem to find the correct heat sink for this motor. Great video. Definitely got a new subscriber here.
During the slow mo of that backflip your tires looked super toed in, did something break?
Nah man, it's from the servo saver, I thought the same thing when watching the replay haha
Great video! That editing must have taken 10 hours!
Most people here (Germany) put in the max5 combo. 1.5 mod gears, 25/35
Hey thanks Chris! 😀 yes, I'd say in total, about 10 hours of editing, give or take an hour.
I'm considering a 1100kv with that gearing, this combo is great, but maybe too high of kv haha
Yeah 🙌🙌🙌 thanks for those links below...nice video 😉👍🏻
No worries, thanks for watching mate
I bought all the same mods in this video before watching the video except I got the max5, not max6, yet to fit it all as I've also bought every green alloy part available, just waiting on the diff covers then I'll put it together
Dang now you got me thinking. Should I go xlx2 1100kv or this setup?
This serup is good but I think the 1100kv would be better dude 😀
What did you end up going with..? I'm torn between the XLX2 and the Max 5
@@savageasfck 1100kv xD
@@skyu777ayala2 Speed for the win! 👍🏻
@Savage hell yeah xd. Havent have the time to test mine yet 😞
What body is that?
Was that 58 mph still on the 20/50 gearing? Or did I hear you say you had a 25 in there?
Looks a great set up. Would you advise removing the wheelie bar? My Xmaxx is stock for now.
Thanks dude and it's totally up to you, I prefer it without the wheelie bar but it's just a personal choice 😀
that was really awesome Matt ...love that editing of your video ...right to the point on everything you done to your Xmax..bash on my Friend 🤘👊👍
much appreciated, thanks dude :)
what motor mount did you use? i have the same max 6 combo that i want to put in my xmaxx, and also, is 1650kv ok with 8s?
The 1650kv seems fine with 8s, however, the esc (max6) will over heat if there is too much load from o v er gearing
@@MatthewSimm thanks
awesome video mate! how does does the hobbywing motor compare to the stock 8s motor? I already have the esc just don't know if I should get the motor
How is it holding up since that motor is rated for 6S. Will the heatsink and fans help it alot on 8S?
Holding up fine bro 😀 I don't recommend running the gears too high though and yes the heat sick and fans help a fair bit.
@@MatthewSimm I was planning 20/50 gears like in the video
Still running stock on mine after 2 years lol. Thinking about finally upgrading. These still holding up bro?
Awesome video, that xmax is ridiculous. Love the standing backflips
Thanks Leroy 😀
Do you still recommend this setup for the Xmaxx? I’ve been seeing mixed reviews on it. The crazy thing is, I can sell my stock xmaxx set up and be able to buy this one. And I was wondering if it was worth it?
I would personally go with the 1100kv, I think the 1650kv draws too much power and heats up too much!
Wild if you could find foams and gear it for speed runs
That might be a cool future project, but I like bashing it too much haha
Sound slide an awesome setup dude! If you aren't set on trenchers, I'd recommend looking at a lighter tire
@@MatthewSimm I have all pro-line tires and duratrax uphills and sometimes I go on the kraton tires
And I don’t jump in ramps or on hard surfaces but yes they are heavy and the truck takes a beating but the air control is outstanding with those tires and the car does standing backflips easy on the trenches, I’m thinking of go with the widekit when it’s released in Sweden
How's your temp with the tp 5870 I have the exact same motor with the same gearing and it gets hot
Hello, nice Car😎 what is the difficult to the Hobbywing 1250kv?
I most definitely want to see more videos of your Xmaxx! I’m putting in a 1717 1580kv paired with the BowHouse Rc motor mount.
Thanks dude, that sounds like an awesome setup! 👌
Wow!!! Absolute monster with that setup!!! 👊👊👍👍
Thanks bro 😀
Awesome Traxxas X-Maxx video buddy.
Keep up the good work fella.
Massive 👍's up!
Awesome vid Matt. Keep up the good work!
Hey! Thanks Justin, I really appreciate it 😀
You've convinced me into putting this same setup in this weekend, where did you end up for gearing??
Really like your editing style
Thanks dude 😀
Great video man keep up the good work every time I see one of you it gives me a big smile
Thanks bro, I'm glad I can make your day a little better! 😀
Danke dafür das du das in Meilen und auch in Km/h zeigst, schöne Grüße aus Austria !
Saw that ending coming I thought to my self when you checked the mesh that sounded super loose
@@MatthewSimm thanks man I really appreciate it
