I gotta say, I'm not impressed with the gears. It like pot metal. When you pay $1500 for an RC you expect something as cheap and easy as the gears to be decent quality. Most people can't drop $1500 and right away spend a whole bunch more on upgrading. If that's the case you're better off buying used for half price and upgrading it. IMO
Yeah, they should include better gears. It's not like the transmission is weak, so they don't need to be weak to protect the car, they're just being cheap.
This is what I did.
Batteries charger and X-maxx for 750.
They use powdered metal and it’s super weird that traxxas of all companies is the one cutting such costs
@@fiercetatsu6782 powdered metal doesn't have to be weak, lots of cordless tools use powdered metal parts, even tools that are rough like impacts.
Something about the process Traxxas uses is certainly weak though.
Those gears are made of the finest grade chinesium😂
lol that servo!! That dang 2$ servo man!!! It suck’s that they give you that servo on a 1k unit. Embarrassing.
Love Traxxas but they really have the worst servos
It’s not too too bad while you’re moving. Definitely not the best but you can still turn pretty hard on pavement
Best thing I've done for the servo is the e revo spring on the servo saver. Game changer
I have been driving Traxxas cars for 10 years now since I was 15 years old never broken/needed a bigger or better servo. For me it's fine.
Traxxas be like:
Build a car with a good platform good motor, good esc, chuck in a cheap plastic geared servo
Traxxas still taking the p1ss. The XMaxx version 5 and yet it still has monkey metal gears and toy grade servo.
Right up to version 5 and still trash gears & servo 🤷🏾♂️

I bought an xmaxx after finding this channel 3.5 years ago after being out of RC probably for 15 years, still puts a smile on my face every time I drive it (and now I have a few more too), thanks Kev!
X-Maxx looks like brilliant fun but I wouldn’t buy one, not new anyway. £1000 for something that strips its gears first run out of the box? No thanks! COME ON TRAXXAS, THAT’S UNACCEPTABLE!
I bought a fiesta st150 off my mate for a grand. That puts things into perspective.
He was off-roading with the street/speed gearing and it says on the box not to do that, I’ve had a x maxx for like 3-4 years, stock gears worked the whole time until about last year when I put a way bigger motor on it
That's not the only weak point, it's definitely not worth it and overrated

Those TLR Typhons are tough as hell. I switched mine over to speedruns but I wanna get another and do Kraton arms and bigger wheels for bashing.
Assuming you still have the Xmaxxs' going back to Gen 1, would be cool to see a side by side of actual improvements they've made along the way.
i dont get it, you didnt seem to be really giving it a hard time and the gears let go pretty quick, did traxxas test this before releasing it to the public? i have a friend with an older xmaxx and he also goes through stock gears and aftermarket gears once every couple of runs, how is this the best rc car?

I had that issue with the savage flux, that thing was a beast but the diff gears broke everytime i turned it on. Atleast traxxas has a lot of aftermarket support and you can fix where they slack but dang come on traxxas the xmaxx is a $1,200 truck it should be a tank out the box

@@andyguyuk1 yeah that’s insane. Idk, if it says 8s on the box i feel like it should handle being ripped on 8s otherwise it should say 6s on the box. He hadn’t even started to really bash it before the gears turned into smooshed playdoh.
I’m waiting to hear back about a v3 for 500 with a fried servo and possibly a smoked esc, but figure 500 was a good price cause i was just going to rip both of those out anyway. At brand new pricing though it’s just kinda insane they wouldn’t atleast get away from those crap sintered gears. The belted tires are cool i guess but don’t really mean anything if you can’t put power to them without after market gears. Traxxas tough BABY!

The Traxxas is definitely the best machine to endure all the abuse possible in skate parks and elsewhere. You have proven it multiple times. Kev I can't believe Traxxas is putting out a new version so fast! Traxxas used to take the longest in between versions with the Xmaxx the past few years they've become the quickest. Hello and good morning from Canada.
It's not really much new. Different tires and BOLD NEW COLORS. Most companies wouldn't refer to such minor changes as a new version.
I believe those are wheelie bars! Not for beginners, but some of the most experienced racers have them on the back of the race cars to prevent wheelies which do tons of damage and prevent inexperienced people from winning races!
Years ago I saw a motorized golf caddy that followed you around the course, moved when you moved and stopped when you stopped. Great idea for an r/c cart...

Really, 54/15? I’m shocked they went down to that when the xrt comes with 50/20. Then again it doesn’t matter, they’re always gonna break. They really need to make the machined gears stock.

🤔 Are there any skaters in skatepark(s) or do they leave immediately when they see Traxxas and other RC stuff ? 🤔 Seems a nice basher (obviously), those belted tires are a nice upgrade. Unfortunately out of my reach 😅🤝

I bought the new xmaxx 8s that your showing now. I absolutely love it and having a blast. I had the same problem you did and stripped the gears the same day. I replaced the gears with ones from Hot Racing and have not had a problem. I am also able to get it on two wheels, but it takes a little bit, I think you're right about it being the servo.

Does the latest version come with 2085x stock, yet? If not, I'd wager that's what's limiting it from doing same-side 2-wheelage. I was able to easily do it once upgrading, even with belted sledgehammer tires.

nowhere is 100% litter free but its very rare to see litter here
I have a traxxas mini max v2 and even with the stock plastic spur, when I’ve put it in one tighter than recommended it still has some play in the gears. The motor never overheats and its lasted a good 6 months now

In case any kids are wondering, "monkey metal" is zinc Zn! Cheapest crappiest metal used in industry. Easy to form but wears easily, unable to weld it, being brittle-ish and snaps under torsion, its not very strong. So....zinc will do the job, just don't ask too much of it!
I personally had bad luck with GDS and pretty much all mod 1 gears. GPM mod 1.5 that’s a pinion style spur gear and full sized 3rd support bearing is my go to option. I have that in my xrt with a max5 5690 combo and it rips.

Yup Traxxas got me again. Had to sell my old one to afford the new $1700 (with tax and shipping) toy and like you, broke it right out of the box first run. Gears and servo are still the same garbage as the old ones. Also, I don't like the belted tires. It's more stable but less fun.

Hey Kevin I drove my new maxx slash it’s smooth as hell and fast too. Faster then a sledge and it’s a good basher it more durable then a sledge and handles better then a sledge. But I still love my sledge
I think the metals stripped because you're not supposed to bash with high speed gearing, It is only for high speed runs. The stock gearing is good for bashing.

14:16 Here where I live we have a park, they list everything you have when you go in, and check you on the way out. If you don't have it all, you get a major fine. They also don't allow glass containers. So any tins, cans, plastic bags or containers, you MUST bring em out with you.
I smoke, so when I'm out on my motorcycle or hiking, I'll at least bury the butt.
