  • @beedubya1031
    @beedubya1031 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great site & effort by you for this! I can't seem to be able to print this without supports and I know that others have. When I review the slicing I can see the unsupported areas that wind up becoming blobs because of that. Is there a better orientation or something that can be changed to print with no supports? Using Prusa Slicer.

    • @LithophaneMaker
      @LithophaneMaker  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can decrease the overhang there by reducing the sphere's diameter, or increasing the cylinder diameter, or you can adjust your slicer settings to do better with overhangs by increasing cooling or printing slower among other things.

    Where is the cad model gone?
    Im trying to add a cut out of a picture and finding it hard not to get a big square around it.

  • @jamezwhite
    @jamezwhite 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    As I look at this, it seems that the inside of the sphere is completely smooth. Because the lithophane is essentially just a thickness mask, and thicker parts let less light out, have you considered inverting the process? That is, having the bump map applied to the inside of the sphere rather than the outside. This would give the outward appearance of a completely smooth sphere when the lamp is off, but when the lamp is lit the image would appear.

    • @LithophaneMaker
      @LithophaneMaker  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, that's on my to-do list. You have to use darker filament to make the lithophane thinner or refraction blurs the image, but it is possible

    • @jimsmith9803
      @jimsmith9803 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LithophaneMaker I've seen discussions on this and the consensus is that putting the bumps on the inside makes for a fuzzier picture.

      0.12mm layer height is good. I use walls to make the lithophane image solid and then 15% infill

      @@streetforcegp2 enough to make the lithophane image solid. If your extrusion width is 0.4 and the max thickness you have is 3.6 then 5 wall lines (per each of the walls) would give you a solid lithophane image
