    Thanks for reworking this. I printed mine from glow-in-the-dark filament, and put a UV bulb in it, which activates the phosphors. I wasn’t able to find a dimmable UV bulb, so went with a cheap simple on-off lamp w/o charging ports. A 4W UV bulb provides a good looking moon, and “night-light” level illumination…..as well as an eerie glow long after it is turned off.

    I need to revisit printing a moon lithopone. I tried several months ago with a different design and after printing maybe 10% of it, I would loose adhesion to the bed (even with a raft). This one looks to have a much larger base. Hopefully I can do it.

    • @TsiolkovskySportingLocks
      @TsiolkovskySportingLocks ปีที่แล้ว

      the loosing adhesion was the problem i had when trying to print one. In the end I gave up.

    • @BV3D

      It might be worth using a brim instead of a raft. That could give it more surface area in contact with the bed.

    Another cool thing I had been meaning to print and then forgot all about, the mains solution makes it much more useful, I printed some giant crystals and made some cases for the crystals to fit on top and be fixed and an RGB puck to go in the bottom and fade through the range of colours but Im sick to death of charging the batteries for them, maybe I should convert them to USB power.

    Thank you for the video - clever use of existing lamps, too. I had just come from the video where that 3D pattern was maybe developed? Had a color changing LED ring inside. But this is a great idea, too! Enjoyed the word play, too. "turn it on, turn it more on, and turn it even more on."...kind of expected the follow up "touch it again to turn it off, moron".

    I'm a new subscriber, and new to the world of 3D printing... I will say that your other video connected the dots and I'm really starting to enjoy 3D printing... So I have the Creality K1 MAX and I'm printing out a moon... this is a beast of a print, but you can only print so many Benchies LOL. I'm about 30% complete at the time I wrote this comment... It's some 38 hours to print. I switched over to some white PLA filament by Overture, and the settings for Generic PLA seems to slow the print speed down quite a bit from using the Hyper series PLA... so the Learning continues.

  • @Nicholas_H

    I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but what settings did you use to slice it? I have a Bambu Lab P1P and want to make sure I slice it correctly . . . I know there can be very specific settings for printing Lithophanes. Thanks for your help - this is an awesome project!

    • @BV3D
      @BV3D  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If I remember correctly, the only major setting I changed was increasing the number of perimeters, so it was solid instead of having infill. Or I set the infill to 100%. Slice it, and scroll through the layers, to make sure it's printing the lithophane solid. The model itself is hollow, so you won't end up with a solid sphere.
      I think I printed this on the cool plate, which tends to have an iron grip on filament, but the P1P comes with the textured PEI plate, right? If so, you may want to use a brim or a bed adhesion aid, to help prevent the model from coming loose during the print job.
      Hopefully that makes sense. I'm not sitting in front of the slicer right now, so that's all from memory.

    • @Nicholas_H
      @Nicholas_H 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@BV3D Thank you so much for your quick reply. The P1P does come with a textured PEI, but so far I haven't had any trouble with bed adhesion. Thanks for your suggestion about increasing the number of perimeters or trying a 100% infill. I appreciate the help and look forward to making a Lunar Lamp . . . could be a great Christmas present!

    • @Nicholas_H
      @Nicholas_H 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Printed it with wall loops set to 5 and it came out perfect - thanks again! Oh and one more quick question - the lamps that you link from Amazon . . . do they fit the 28mm or 35mm twist lock base?

      question is for the moon print

    • @BV3D
      @BV3D  ปีที่แล้ว

      I printed it with 0.2mm layer height, and about 6 walls/perimeters. Or you could use 100% infill. It needs to be solid so there isn't an infill pattern showing when the light shines through it.
