    The meaning of this Boss Fight it's just amazing.
    End of the world, no gods, no glorious Knights, just a slave Knight that succumbed to madness carrying his mission of finding the Dark Soul for his Lady's Painting, never meant for an Heroic Ending, and an Unkindled One, fighting his former ally, and at the end, that's all, that's the end of the firelink cicle, two nobody's fighting till just one stands, that's Dark Souls ending for y'all.

      Some people in this world literally eat shit, after all, but that's not my problem. But defending this broken piece of shit sequel is on another level of retardation. 99% of the people that play dark souls consider the multiplayer elements to be just a bonus addition and not the core of the game. The people that like ds2 obviously like to play terrible pvp oriented games. Dark Souls has never been about that and quite frankly imo, the pvp in ds2 is the second worst (the worst is of course bb) in the series. With this kind of attitude the next game is going to be another soulless mess like the extremely lackluster dark souls 2 or a bland , tedious, terrible clone like nioh or even worse something like the surge or lords of fallen. Also people are just a herd of mindless sheep they usually hate everything that is somewhat new and that's to be expected.

    Gael actually hollows after realizing he has accumulated the dark soul and starts fighting using tactics instead of wildly attacking like he would have had to to gather the dark soul. He spent an uncountable amount of time chasing it, and once somebody finally made him bleed, he realized he achieved it. It must've broken him and literally sent his mind backward. It's honestly scary to think about. He literally killed everything for that.

    • @dinorex3464
      @dinorex3464 ปีที่แล้ว +88

      I think he hollows because the Ashen One is there.
      Gael has left breadcrumbs for you to follow throughout the entire DLC, because his quest was to make sure the Painter received the pigment; it didn't matter if he was the one who delivered it or not.
      So once you make him bleed, he knows he has achieved it and you are there to kill him, so he essentially gives up, but having the Dark Soul inside of him turns him into the deadliest killing machine ever seen.

    • @Limrasson
      @Limrasson ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@dinorex3464 I'm not sure where all of you getting this lore, because the entire series is just a basket of breadcrumbs and you claim to know the break which they came from.
      However the fact that he goes from a wild, animalistic and most importantly hunched over posture to standing straight, using tactics liek the crossbow and fighting like a glorious knight, imho is anything but being broken. He seem to be filled with purpose and determination. And to connect with your observations, It doesn't really feel like he had lost his purpose here. Why would he be distressed? He had just found what he was looking for and if you guys are right, then he knows that you, the player is also there for the same reason. Meaning that now you two are only fighting to see who will deliver the pigment and as such he fights as the noble knight he is.
      That's my take on it. He seems to be filled with purpose and not the other way around.

      I feel this is what I don't like about DS3 lore in general though (especially Ringed City). I always felt that in Dark Souls 1, the "Dark Souls" was implied to embody humanity; us. It was more or less just an interesting way of saying that it is the player that is the threat in the Dark Souls universe, not the numerous PvE bosses we kill. it isn't a coincidence that the PvP covenant in Dark Souls 1 happened to be the one that supposedly tapped into what is deemed the true nature of man, i.e being a greedy asshole. And at the end of the game, Gwyn was proven right to fear us; our determination, that human drive to persist and push on beyond one's limits, is what finally brings down the gods themselves.
      But in DS3, it just becomes too literal in the form of a guy "drinking" the Dark Soul and then getting epic powers. Right, cool...
      It's still a cool fight though.

      @@ZarajBlackblade Sorry just wanted to clarify from what I read someone else said. They mentioned that it was quite a fitting ending because it showed just how horrible the Dark Soul is at the end with Gael. The greed, the lust for power, the wants, and the needs. In the end, it's just two nobody's fighting at the end. Isn't it fitting to end with having two couple of nobody's to fight one another? One is an Ash that failed to kindle the fire while the other is a Slave Knight that was consumed by the Dark Soul itself. I don't know. Just saying that it is quite an interesting thing with the DS3's final boss ending being like this. It may not have had a satisfying ending but that itself seems soo Dark Souls in a way. At least that's what I think.

    Now i realize, there are a lot of bosses in this franchise are in their weakened state when you fight them..
    -Artorias was gone insane, broke his left arm (which is his stronger arm), and even fighting us without his shield.
    -Gwyn was already going hollow.
    -Kalameet was injured after getting shot by Gough.
    -Burnt Ivory King was already being consumed by the chaos, you are there just to end his suffering for the brave things he did.
    -Old Iron King was also in same case.
    -Sinh was being weakened by the poison.
    -Abyss Watchers also having the same fate as Artorias, and have to deal with their own member while fighting you and also getting weakened because of the abyss, imagine if you are fighting "the legion" instead of 3 abyss watchers in same time.
    -Yhorm was too tired to even fight because after all the bad things happened to him and just want us to end him quickly, he even left the storm ruler near his side from the previous owner who failed to kill him for us to use.
    -Dragonslayer Armour is just an armour, imagine if the wearer still alive and fight you.
    -Old Demon King is just like the name, is a very old king that already lost his prime long ago.
    -Demon princes had been weakened because of Lorian.
    -Dancer were gone mad after what Pontiff did to her.
    -Lothric prince are literally two cripples who bearing a curse that limiting them to even wanting to try link the fire.
    -Midir was in his pathetic state, being corrupted by the thing he supposed to destroy and he was in his weakened state as well after falling from the bridge.
    -Friede just desperately wanted you to leave them alone, even Father Ariandel sacrificed their small amount of fire just to fight you.
    -Then we got Gael as well.
    And many more that i probably forgot to include..
    The only great bosses you fought when they are in prime as far i remember are Sir Alonne, Champion Gundyr, Soul Of Cinder, Pontiff Sulyvahn, and Darklurker, again might forgot some as well..

    I heard there are a lot of people whose dissapointed with Gael being the final boss of the dark souls series. I think this is quite a fitting end to the story. In the main story canon of dark souls 3 in the end you brought an end to the fire, ending the age of fire and brought the age of dark. We saw flame extinguished and the world became dark. Now everything is ending, the gods are gone, the legacy of fire is gone, everything is gone, destroyed for the world to be reborn anew.
    Now the only thing remaining is the darkness, but there's something else that still survive even now, the dark soul. In dark souls 3, the lords and the lord souls, including the dark soul is all but forgotten. Throughout dark souls 3 there are only a handful of characters that show knowledge of the dark soul, these include the painter and Gael, and We know Gael himself was looking for the dark soul. He finally found it in the Ringed City and consume the dark soul presumably to somehow provide the pigment that the painter needs. You then defeated Gael, claim dark soul yourself and gave it to the painter for her to paint a new world with. Now the dark soul is also gone. The Ringed City DLC is the story about, literally, the end of dark soul.
    Sorry if there is any mistake in my English, I am not a native English speaker, and please enjoy my thought about this DLC.

      i couldn't agree more. i died to him about 7 times (i seriously feel like a pro when fighting him now though), but i wasn't the slightest bit mad. before the dlc came out i thought it would end in some deep, dark place, with some absolutely fucked up, monstrous thing - something tied to the abyss. but this is perfect. now that i think of it, it's the most fitting setting for the end of dark souls. truly, at world's end.

    I absolutely loved this fight.
    I have no clue why, I only died like 8 times, I was expecting to die more, especially solo like I was. But the way he moved just was incredible. The phases, the shown reason why the Lords feared the Dark Soul. You see the power that the Gods took from you in action, and it's all clear to why they enslaved us. Gwyn, Izalith, Nito, all of them were easier than this (Bed of Chaos doesn't count cause it's not Izalith herself). But this is the power of raw, festering humanity, tainted by blood and used by someone who's a slave of all people. It's awesome.
    Loved this fight, would gladly do it all over again.
    Also notice how he interestingly becomes MORE human after realizing the power of his Dark Soul. He stops running on all fours, he uses his cloak as a weapon, he starts using WoW corona and the Crossbow.

    • @mikeyisbombable
      @mikeyisbombable หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Absolutely! There are several key points here that make this dlc boss one of the best.
      1. Gael’s boss arena literally takes place at the end of the world in Dark Souls. His arena is also one of the largest from the series due to you can explore and fight throughout it.
      2. His lore is quite tragic due to him consuming the Dark Soul itself while it corrupted him and also drove him to madness.
      3. The fight with Gael himself is quite difficult but fun once you master. His 3 phrases are also very unique due to him having some assets from a cut DS1 boss named Undead King Jar Eel
      Nothing will trump Gael as a final dlc boss imo.

    trying to one up the difficulty with every boss just made them all play the same. every single boss in sote has 360 tracking, roll catches, delays, aoes, explosions, and some annoying spectacle attack that isn't even hard to dodge but just slows the fight down.
    rhythm here is unmatched too. endgame + dlc bosses in er have such long ass combos and few openings that it genuinely feels like i might as well be playing a turn based rpg at times. dodging 5-6 times just to get a single hit in is more tedious than difficult if you asked me

    Seeing Gael, reminded me of a little thing I thought was interesting. After all the DLC is included for Dark Souls 2 and 3, each game ultimately ends, with you fighting a really old, bearded badass. You've got the Hollowed, form of Gwyn just barely hanging on. Aldia in Scholar of the First Sin, after you trounce Nyshandra and now Slave Knight Gael. The difference is that Gael is a lot more powered up, than Gwyn or Aldia. And goes through a Ludwig style transformation, where he goes from a more pitiable and bestial stance, to an upright one. He then goes and throws in some insane leaps and sword swings, like the Orphan of Kos and Artorias.
    Edit: He even has a similar AoE lightning attack, to the Orphan and his cloak flaps like the wings the Orphan sprouts, in his second phase.

    Anyone else get the sense that Gael is the undead interpretation of Guts from Berserk? Wow. Just...wow. This is probably the most most well designed, epic and fun battle in not only the Souls series, but in gaming history in my opinion. The idea is awesome: You, a survivor who has made it to the end of the world versus a skilled warrior who has lived through every event in the games timeline who has been tainted by the very thing he has consumed, all the while you battle on the remains of a large and ancient city.
    I would go as far as to say that this fight is so much of a spectacle that it’s overwhelming, which was the reason as to how I died the first time against him. THAT’S how good this is.

    Lore aside, this is now the best Souls boss for me. Got him on my second go but he's intense, epic and challenging but completely balanced and fair at the same time. For once I felt like I completely earned my victory instead of getting lucky with roll spamming. This is a real Dark Souls boss, not a boring battle of attrition like Darkeater Midir. Only Fume Knight really challenges him in (although even he has too much HP). Will probably do a playthrough with his sword now just to honour him.
