Really good video. The bottom plastic panel comes straight out. Not up, not down, just a straight pull. For the seal, I found it easier to fit the inner seal first, then the outer seal just seemed to drop in place. I also found it easier to remove the three screws (top) that hold the softener box in place. Makes it easier to remove/refit the front control panel.
Thanks - bought the seal from F&P delivered for $95, and followed your vid ... mine's a bit newer and doesn't have the strip along the bottom, but has 3 weights to remove. But otherwise the same and a good result. Saved $250. Good man. Thanks!
This is an excellent tutorial!! I had never worked on a washing machine before, and would not have even attempted this job without your clear and detailed instructions. But with your help, my 10 year old son and I followed your advice to the letter and we got it done!! Advice to others - always check your pockets for drill bits before washing clothes 😬
Thanks. This was super complex and fiddly. Got it done though. Wouldn’t have had a chance without your clear instructions. Thanks. I’d wish they’d designed these things to be easier to work on for the layman!
Agreed. The older top loader design is much easier to work on - many pieces just clipping together. My 20 year old smartdrive just goes on and on - I've done some small maint jobs. I think F&P have been given this design i.e. they just sell them.
Cheers for the videos mate! I have the same washer and using your videos I changed the seal, replaced the heater element (which wasn't working) and replaced a bunch of buggered LEDs on the front display. It's now back to 100% and working perfectly, thanks again.
Another reason you might want to do this is if the drum spring launches itself into low orbit, the drum catapults itself into the side wall and seal creases more than Gordon Ramsey's forehead. We got it done. No way without this video. Thanks, mate.
Fortunately for me I only had issues with the outer ring coming away after a heavy load displaced it. The seal came away, but following the last part of this video I was able to place the seal and the ring back perfectly. A great tutorial - thanks for posting!
You saved my washing machine! I had to replace the chrome part of the outer door. It arrived today so went to remove the hinge from the washing machine so I could reassemble the door with the hinge in place and then hang the door back on. Easy right? So I unscrew the hinge and clank! the mounting plate on the other side of the door INSIDE the washing machine falls off. How the hell am I supposed to get that! Your video on how to change out the seal was just what I needed. All I needed to do was remove the tension cable holding the seal in place and I could squeeze my hand in and grab the backing plate. And I had enough access to reach in and hold it in place so I could re mount the door. Hardest part was getting that stupid cable back on properly. So, thanks again for the video. It saved me a lot of money.
Many thanks for the great video- the outer wire came off, and this video gave me insight into replacing it- I used mutigrips and a small phillips head screwdriver.
Tip: I had real trouble getting the wire seal retainer in place. I wiped the wire with dish washing liquid to act as a lubricate. That made the job a lot easier.
Thankyou so much for this video. It has helped me and given me the courage to fix our Fisher & Paykel 7.5kg WashSmart which is 10 years old. It made fixing it straightforward and anxiety free! I really appreciate the clarity and detail you provided. Saved me $$$ in about one hour. Tips for others - this video works quite well at x2 playback speed.
We went on a real journey there! I think if I would have known that would take me 4 hours, I would have paid someone else to do it! Also, I have 3 screws left over and don’t know where they came from.
Hi I have a scraping noise when I spin the drum, sounds like my 6”metal rule has fallen out of my pocket whilst washing and somehow made it passed the seal. I watched the video and it looks like it would have to get passed the retaining spring 1st. But then the drum looks sealed? Could it be something else? Would I be wasting my time in removing the seal to get to the drum cavity? Cheers
The door seal seems to get damaged from repeatedly dragging loads of washing out through the door rather than carefully removing the finished washing. Buckles, zippers, buttons etc. catch on the rubber seal and damage it
Use a small screwdriver to gradually slide the wire into the groove . Quite easy really. And loosely screw it in first, already done up. Then tighten at finish
Im 62 female & I chaned the door seal. However, a couple of points: identify the model as my seal was different, it has a light. Beware the 2nd spring to unscrew. What a nuisance to get on to. And, the door spring, describe what way it was suppose to go on. Would save a lot of time swearing. But I did it!!
Hey I thought this video would help my issue, but seems as though the drum as dropped down, which isn’t allowing the seal to line up? (It was twisted) Would you have a video about that or any tips mr washy washy?
@@askmrwashywashy how difficult are the bearings to replace as we were quoted $300 for a new one installed. We have ordered the spare part and are hoping to have a go at it ourselves. Is it a pretty involved install?
Great video thanks. I can't believe how much you need to pull the machine apart to replace the seal! Is there any way to just fix a small tear in the seal, like you indicated happens sometimes at the start of the video at 0:23? That's the issue with mine (almost exactly where you put your finger on the seal!).
Hey man, thanks so much for this video! Helped me clean my machine when a sheepskin fell apart inside it. From New Zealand
Glad it helped!
Hey I’m doing this in nz as we speak, do you have a part number for what you ordered by chance?

Super clear and step-by-step.
Managed to do this job today, would've been a different story if not for this guide.
Thanks 👌

Thanks for this. So clear, managed to change it over with no complications. Definitely saved me some $$$

Very good detailed video my friend, thank you so much for making it for us as it has helped out a lot of people!

I just heard *that* clunk !! So you don't have to take the front panel.
OK ... here we go, another 15 min job that will take me 2 hours. 🤣

this was so helpful and easy to follow, made me look competent in front of the lady too, cheers bro!
Thanks for this really helpful video. Easy Step by step instructions allowed me to do this myself!
Going to replace the drum bearings on my F&P soon and this is part of the job too.... cheers
Excellent, got me through the job of replacing the seal.
Great step by step tutorial, made the job super easy 👌🏻
Thanks a ton, you save $200 for the technician

Welcome. Thank you
Thanks heaps mate. Really appreciate you putting this out there
Thanks for the video. Very useful.
Thanks mate you're a legend.
Spray bottle with soapy water makes it super easy to get the seal on the drum 😊
Thanks great video. Could you tell me or link me to a video of what to do when the drum is loose. Thanks in advance.
Awesome video bro, you just saved me a tonne of $$$. Thank you so much! Kia kaha!
Did exactly what you explain on the video! No probs. Thank you lad 🤙🏻
Excellent instructions couldn’t be clearer
Thanks! I have the exact same model and had to replace the seal today
This vid was very useful, thank you

Awesome work mate. This has indeed made my day.

Hello can you provide any tips on replacing outer seal spring-wire
Use a small screwdriver to gradually slide the wire into the groove . Quite easy really. And loosely screw it in first, already done up. Then tighten at finish
@@johnmac3509 yeah I couldn’t do it. Paid a person.
@@johnmac3509 Your technique works. I think it is the hardest of all the bits in this job. I read your comments after fixing it.
Need a video on replacing the bearings
I just did mine.
First free machine could not remove them and mushroomed the spline.
2nd machine was a little easier to remove the bearings
Could this be done with the machine laying on it's back? Once the top is removed that is.
Im 62 female & I chaned the door seal. However, a couple of points: identify the model as my seal was different, it has a light.

That's the issue with mine (almost exactly where you put your finger on the seal!).
You can fix small tears with waterproof silicone sealant, the type used to seal roof sheeting. Just needs a few days to dry fully.
It’s actually insane how hard they make a simple change. Bizarre
Thanks mate !
Is it normal to have a spare screw after you put it all back together?? eek
Great video. The machine’s design is not very smart when such a common part becomes so time consuming to replace.
Miraculous!
Doesn’t look east at all. You pretty much took apart the entire machine
Thank you, great video. Got the job done !
Thanks
Welcome thank you so much
