2017 Ford Fusion Sport 0-60 MPH Review - Highway MPG Road Test

  • MPGomatic.com puts a 2017 Ford Fusion Sport to the test with a highway MPG loop and a pair of 0-60 MPH runs. Local Fusion Sport Pricing: mpgomatic.com/1... (MSRP starts at $33,750)
    The all-wheel-drive (AWD) Fusion Sport is equipped with a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 engine (325 HP/380 pound-feet of torque) and a 6-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. The suspension system includes continuously controlled damping to provide pothole mitigation.
    I've included a complete highway loop to provide transparency and to show the driving techniques I use to achieve better fuel economy.
    I ran two 0-60 MPH acceleration runs, one in drive and one in sport with traction control off. The 0-60 MPH tests were performed back to back. Better times may be possible, but I didn't want to abuse it.
    Let me know what you think in the comments and thanks as always for watching!

    Very good review. I have a 17 Sport. You are right on with the MPG. 0 to 60 I got just over 5 seconds. This is a great car for GEEZERS with a young mind. Took a friend for a ride. Dropped it in sport and leaned on it to merge onto I-95. He about flipped and he drives a Mustang GT automatic. My only dislikes are TINY TACH, Hard to read menu for old eyes. Also not to sure if I like all wheel drive. This car will surprise you for sure.

    Nice.
    Feels like we've not had an MPGomatic MPG run in quite a while.
    It'd be great if you could get hold of a Chevy Volt or a Prius Prime and see how many electric miles you could squeeze out of them.

      I have footage in the can on a number of vehicles, but haven't had the time to edit the videos. I've been crazy busy with other work, but I'm hoping to crank out the backlog once we hit September.
      I tested the Volt a while back and had no problem hitting the advertised numbers. It's a solid car. I drove the Prius Prime at the launch event in California and had one on the schedule to test here, but something popped up and I wasn't able to run extended testing.

    2014 fusion 2.0 eco here. Running a Garrett powermax turbo and an E-50 tune from Unleashed Tuning with the help of an Xtreme-DI high pressure fuel pump. The car has been fun 😜Wish I had this car though

    I know I’m late as this is an old video but it’s worth noting I traded an Audi S3 for this very model and it was the best decision I’ve made. I get better gas mileage and it’s not temperamental like the Audi. Off the line the Audi is quicker no doubt. From a roll, this car just keeps pulling. I wish I had known about this model before I wasted money and busted knuckles on that damn Audi. They require so much maintenance. Where as the Ford you just drive it, and do routine maintenance and they’re good to go. I would recommend the V6 twin turbo EcoBoost over the Audi as mechanics will work with your Ford while many local mechanics will not touch an Audi. That’s just the facts of owning an Audi. Good video, provoking good thought comparing this car to more “prestigious” cars

    I really like this car, impressive how you can get over 30MPG. I liked the regal mention, I have a 2014 GS with a 2.OL turbo and AWD. 260hp and 295 lb-ft. I haven't really guaged mileage with it very well. I want to now and see what it will do. I really enjou your content. Down to earth guy that appreciates vehicles.

      mooseymikey82 Thanks, Mikey! Getting great MPGs with these little turbos = staying out of the boost whenever practical. The Regal GS is a cool car. Knock wood I get to drive the new one soon. Buick sold a FlexFuel badged version of the Turbo Regal for a short time, then stopped marketing it. Saab had a FlexFuel version of the engine, as well.

    • @mooseymikey82
      @mooseymikey82 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah the Regal GS is an amazing car. It's hard to stay out of boost, when you even feather the throttle off a stop it hits just over 2000rpm and boost hits at 2200rpm.

    I have a 2015 Fusion SE FWD with the 2 liter eco. I keep track of all my mileage, calculated manually, and in almost 3 years, I have averaged 28.5 mpg. The Taurus SEL I had prior with the 3.5 V6 averaged 25.2 mpg. My lease is coming up in June so am thinking about what I am going to do. I miss the smoothness of a V6, not that there is anything wrong with the 2.0 so am seriously considering a 2018 Sport. I just don't know if it is worth 10K more than an SE to get what I want. Regarding the mileage counter in the car, it has never matched what I actually calculate for mileage. It is always optimistic, sometimes only by 1 mpg, sometimes by 2-3 mpg. I have noticed that with the cruise set on 60, it reads 32-33 mpg, at 65 it reads 30-31, at 70 it reads around 28 and at 75 it reads 26 - so it does show that speed kills mileage.

    13:22 try using the paddle shifters by switching into the lowest gear which reaches about 4K-4.5k rpms and you’re gonna feel the response. I’ve test driven maybe 2 or 3 of the Fusion Sports and they really move.

    These are a GREAT used vehicle bargain, at least in the Detroit area. I've seen some low mileage 2017 Sports with clean Car Fax's in the low $20,000s and am thinking about taking the plunge. It seems to be a perfect all-season vehicle--and all purpose, with the 4 doors (practicality), 325hp (powerful), AWD (in Michigan especially), and a decent trunk. The only things I don't like is the rotary shift knob (but I see that's even in the new 2020 Shelby GT500) and the required premium fuel, which is currently approaching $4 a gal and almost a dollar more per gallon than regular, at least locally.

      Had mine for 2 years now and it's been superb. No maintenance issues and enough power to be fun while still being big and comfy enough for everything else. I paid $25,000 and think anything less than that is a real steal.

    ford should've found a way to bring the falcon over to the US. a V8 in one of these would be amazing.

    • @bourbon.36
      @bourbon.36 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Almost no point in a V8 though if you can squeeze that amount of HP out of a V6. Although, a V8 is nice to have for true raw power though. Had an '06 Impala SS, and although FWD, she was a beast. Hit the gas and she was gone. But 325 HP in a car of this size, is damn good. I have a '14 Titanium, and I love it. Even the 245 HP mine has feels like a lot.

    • @indigovegas2637
      @indigovegas2637 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Phillip Wooden yea that is true. its funny because my mom has an 08 SS, i know exactly what you mean. I supposed 325hp is enough. I definitely plan to get a sport model in a few years when they depreciate.

      Hybrids and electrics don't do that well in sustained high speeds. On the bright side you don't have to stop every 200 miles for a 30 minute fast charge.

  • @canddmeyer
    @canddmeyer 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I timed around 6.35 on both your off idle 0-60 & sport launches. OUCH, as I would have guessed it to be faster. The 2.7 Sport computer mileage was fantastic although I wonder what a hand calculated result might show. As for my mpg, I normally drive pretty much like you did for this video, and my best mpg with a 2016 FWD 2.0T with regular cruise (non-ACC) set at 68mph running E10 91 octane is only 31mpg using Fuelly.com which I've used since I purchased my vehicle new. Factors like hills, mountains, elevation, 100 degree temps with heavy air-conditioning usage, and headwinds will lower my average by up to 5mpg depending on the factors involved along whatever route I'm driving.Thanks for the video.

    • @M4B21S88
      @M4B21S88 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      zip89105 i timed them at about 6-6.1. As a ecoboost mustang owner myself, these turbocharged engines are highly susceptible to high temps. I want to think that a 6 sec run on this car is due to higher temp (he mentioned 82f AND humid). I myself run about 5.5-5.8 on days that temps are below 75F (my mustang).
      On hotter days Im probably 6 -6.2 as well...a lot of people on the ecoboost mustang community replace the stock intercooler to prevent the engine of being “robbed” of power on hotter days and it helps.

    The Fusion Sport seems nice, but in the official MPG ratings by EPA scares me, considering this car drinks the expensive Premium stuff at rates greater than even the 340i, S4 or C43 AMG. As tempting as 325hp sounds, when it comes to the money I think I'm more drawn to the slower Fusion Energi instead. Honestly I wished the BMW 330e is cheaper as that seems to offer the best of both worlds of good power + plug-in hybrid capability. Cheaper too given the govt. rebates for cars with plug-in capability where I live.
