Thanks so much for another thoughtful, informative video Dr. Sugai. My mixed heritage and history of unprotected sun worship have resulted in some pretty significant challenges as I age. I've learned so much from you and sincerely appreciate both your knowledge, ability to deliver great content informed by both experience and research and to top it all off, I love your sense of humor!
Dr. Sugai my dermatologist gave me medication for melasma and I have to add vitamin C supplements to take it. I think my melasma is improving. Thanks for your video about melasma and dark skin spots.
Ditto! I have recently found a very gentle PHA made by Aveeno, their Calm + Restore line. It works gently over time. “Nourishing PHA Facial Exfoliator”
Hello , I am a new subscriber and love your channel. I have dark spots on the side of my neck and a few on my face. So many products out their not sure which to try. Thank you for your very helpful information. 👍
Thank You for this content Dr. Sugai. Let’s help Dr. Sugai reach 500K. 👍& subscribe bc I learn more listening to him than the last time I saw my derma.
I love this content, I have been using targeted skin care for hyperpigmentation I like it, but I find it's lightening my whole face, I like my dark skin, it's not bleaching but it's brightening a bit much, also can you do a video on safely removing facial hair for darker skin.
Thank you Dr Sugai ❤; I didn't know what the skin barrier was or that I even had one; you are so thorough and my skin care has improved from listening to you

MAHALO! Didn't need this video, just watched because I was literally, just thinking about the short you did about fingernails. I can't remember what yellow nails meant 😮. After removing my nail polish I see that my nails are yellow. What is the reason Dr. Dan?? 😮 Thank you & we need a "LOVE" tab to smash for you! Especially when you do ur jams & of course the Princesses appearances!❤🎉
Mahalo!!! Yes- nail polish can cause yellowing of the nails. It will recover after several months after taking a break from nail products but it’s very common! Happy new year and take care. Appreciate you!🙏🤙❤️
Hi. Thank you so much for your videos. I learn a lot from them. I am Puerto Rican and I have enlarged pores. I clean my face every morning and night but still seem to have enlarged and looks like clogged pores as well. I don’t have acne but I have the issues with my pores on my cheeks, nose and chin area. Do you have a video specifically on pores? Thank you so much for all you share!!!
Thank you dr Sugai for this video. I have melasma on my face (forehead and cheeks) and I have watched tons of video about it. In most of them people will emphasis on sunscreen which is of course a good way to not worsen it. But very few people are giving tips to improve the skin itself. One tip which makes a huge difference for me is aloe vera. Aloe vera is the super ingredient against burns and the area affected by melasma (on my skin at least...) seems to lack hydratation. Putting only sunscreen on a dehydrated melasma prone skin is to me not enough.
Dr. Sugai, I wish your video’s weren’t so edited. It seems like the screen is blinking for me, and you aren’t breathing in between sentences. (I mean, of course you are we just don’t see it and it sounds like run on sentences. There are absolutely no pauses, and I just want to scream breathe and slow down. Sorry, I do love your info though.
You can probably check his shorts on kids skincare. Dr. Jenny Liu has a video on kids skincare that might be helpful as well. Even his teen skincare video might be helpful.
Hi Dr Sugai! Thanks for always making such informative videos! Can I use a cosmetic product like concealer with iron oxides on top of my non tinted sunscreen and be fine as long as I reapply?
Dr. Sugai, Thank you so much for this video. Very informative and helpful. I am struggling with melasma for 3 decades to present and am have been taking care of it. Can I wear the Dermtlgy Universal Tinted Moisturizer SPF46 on top of the broard spectrum spf 50 sunscreen when outdoors?
Hi Dr Sugai I’m 66 of Hispanic descent and clueless to where to begin. Do you offer FaceTime services? Definitely starting to show my age and need help
I prefer a chemical sunscreen for my skin. Is an SPF 50 +++ as good as using a tinted mineral sunscreen? I have 4 or 5 small dark spots that I am trying to get rid of. I believe they are just from sun and aging but they bother me.
Dr. Sugai, my skin darkened a bit after using niacinamide 5 percent along with 2 percent hyaluronic acid and 1 percent arbutin acid. Please tell me why 😢
Dr. Sugai, I tolerate better prescription Adapalene gel of 0.3% and apply retinol cream on top of it. Is my daily routine as affective for anti-aging, collagen production, etc as Tretinoin?
can you please review lilyanas super vitamin C and high potency retinol. Do they really live up to the hype for high quality at exceptional low prices?
If you mean in your sunscreen, some derms say not to do that as it can affect the sunscreen setting up properly. You can apply foundation over your sunscreen or even a SPF powder over the sunscreen or use a tinted sunscreen.
Tinted sunscreen on a man doesn't look like makeup? Really? And on brown skin? I avoided tinted sunscreen due to these fears. Please show some pictures of men of color with tinted sunscreen as I'm not convinced I wouldn't look as if I'm wearing makeup base or foundation meant for Caucasians on my face if I use a tinted sunscreen.
He might say that as the untinted sunscreen with zinc will give what I call "ghost face" on me and I am pale. So it might really look very white on your darker face?
Great doctor, thank you. So retinol can give dark spots ? I thought it was the contrary ! Please try speak just a little more slowly, foreigners are listening to you.
As a phisician you should know better. The label "Hispanic" has absolutely nothing to do with having dark skin. Nothing. Hispanics and Latinos are not genetically linked. Please keep the following in mind: Race and Hispanic origin are distinct and separate concepts. The labels "Hispanic" and "Latino" are not related to biology or skin color. Individuals of Hispanic and Latino origin do not fit into specific biological, anthropological, or genetic categories and can belong to any race, including white, black, or Asian. Any study that associates biological, anthropological, or genetic criteria with individuals of Hispanic origin is a systematic distortion of statistical outcomes, resulting from an unaccounted factor in its derivation.
In this case, I am referring to Latin American origin and Spanish speaking countries which “Hispanic” has been defined in the dictionary. I was in France for a conference last month and my colleagues from Latin American countries battle hyperpigmentation in their patients with deeper skin tones. That is what I meant by using the term in this video. Thanks for watching.
To be clear, race is also a social construct and a problematic one at that (just look at all the diverse ethnicities lumped together as “Asian” 🙄). I think sometimes we have no choice but to make the best of the existing framework, however flawed. I appreciate that you clarified that both skin of color and fair skinned folks can experience these issues!
I feel ya, but the majority of the world are people of color...unless you have no melanin in your skin...I get your argument about the social construct of race/ethnicity/ nationality...makes me sick, as well, however, it doesn't change the fact the majority of the world's people are melanin-filled, from subtle to a deep, rich brown, no matter if one chooses to identify as white...can we just start over already with all of this...smh
I'm Hispanic and deal with hyperpigmentation ,love your videos, don't ever stop helping us❤

There are less expensive versions of cysteamine like Urban Skin RX and even APC.

I have to disagree, genetics is not the biggest factor. The biggest factor in dark spots is UV exposure.
I love these type of videos

Have you gone to get a good facial? Try to find yourself a dermatologist even if you have to pay out of pocket.
Please Dr. Sugai can you educate us on KELOIDS on the face. Thank You❄️❄️❄️

Geeat content Doc!
What do you think of the oral tranexamic acid in pill form for melasma? I just don’t see a lot of dermatologist recommending it.
I get laser treatments every three yrs. Reasonable cost, barely any downtime, quick procedure. Non invasive. I recommend it
Great video Dr Sugai! Very informative!
Thank you Dr. Sugai
Hi!Dr.Sugai
What is the best for acne and pores please?🙏🏻
Thank you for a very informative video. I always get great advice from you. Can I use a retinol/retinoid in the morning? I use tret every night.
I can go outdoors in the direct sun for just ten minutes and ,boom, just like that 🤌, my melasma journey starts all over again. 😅
Hello Dr
Is it possible to book an online consultation and where
Thank you 🙏
I have dark hyperpigmentation…looks mole like spot for years though I haven’t done anything to fix it.
I have dark spots isolated and not a wave of pigmentation.

Lasers are the best. 4X a year and then good simple products 2X a day.
