Same here. Have a 2016 F150.. nothing but drivetrain and SYNC 3 issues. OF COURSE they can never duplicate it. Luckily I have some warranty left but when my earning funds are right you'll see me in a Tundra
May consider one of these to replace my 37 year old pickup. I want absolute longevity with simple intuitive controls. I was once in a rental car in Europe during a rainstorm and had to pull over and read the manual to figure out how to turn the wipers on! They were controlled by a touch screen display integrated with the audio and navigation.
I think the Tundra is the last of the simple trucks out there with intuitive controls. Better not wait too long though as there is a remodel coming soon and I'm sure things will get a bit more complicated!!
2008 Limited 4WD here. It’s been lifted/leveled with 35’s for almost 180k now, and I’m a contractor so it’s hooked to a trailer 2-3 days a week. It been a fantastic truck and still feels as reliable as the day I bought it. I hope to keep it another 10 years. To me the value comes after its paid for and keeps going. Love mine. Don’t care about the fuel mileage. Was driving it when gas was almost $4 a gallon. So gas being $1.60 where I live is just a great bonus.
Had a couple of these we bought new for our business back in 2016. We run trucks 100K plus miles a year on dirt and gravel roads and really use the hell out of them. Had a few minor issuers, but the lack of a fully functioning easy to use rear locking diff, HORRID fuel economy, rough ride and lack of stability hauling a trailer we had to go back to the GM and ford trucks. They look cool though.
The Tundra has been a great buy! I have 2017 limited, I have no issues after 23,679 miles hard miles too. I added the Magnuson SC, no issues at all. Just more get it up.
tilley Schmolph you are a bit late like 1 year. I have 57,876 miles after pulling my 24 ft trailer across Montana to the Dakotas and off road use. Oil change, filters and tires and no issues!!! Reliability
Bought my double cab 8' bed almost 2 months ago and I love this thing. It came with a hard tonneau cover, and nerf bars. It's a 4X4, seats 6, it's white with all black trim and the only thing I might change is the gray wheels to black. I've added a front receiver hitch, and a 12" extension for a 9000 lb. winch. I made rails to go on top of the bed sides due to not being able to find affordable ones to fit outside the cover. I put on some old Yakima rail bars to mount my kayaks or a Bigfoot hard shell tent. I made a 4'X8' sliding drawer to be able to get things in and out without opening the cover. I put 2 6 gal. plastic jerry cans in front of the left wheel well and pressurize them for running water. I put in a storage compartment under the back seat then added a dog proof back seat cover and trimmed the hooks to lower the back seat where I added a number of gun cases. So much fun and much more added then space to write about.
Without any thing in the hitches it's 21' long. I'm soon to be 64, I stated driving the Subaru 360 smallest car on the road in 71 at 16, and at 17 I started driving 5 ton trucks, tracks and so for the army in Germany. I just make sure I park far out in the lots not only to get in and out easer but, so no one bangs it.

That’s great. I have many mod ideas on the channel. As far as a vendor, Sparksparts.com has lots of mods. You can use discount code RobMotive for 5% off as well👍
There is a saying in from my home country which translates to "If you wanna keep an elephant as a pet, you gotta make sure to build wide and tall doors". 5.7 V8 means they would guzzle gas, but this is why they are trucks and not cars. I am still desperately waiting on to embark on Tundra from Camry.
Yep just bought me my first Toyota Tundra ..it is a 2019 TRD Sport. It had 31,000 miles on it looked really nice and clean. Had it now for a few days can you hurt the ride if you increase the tire pressure to 50 PSI ? The front tires looks like they are half flat ...or is that me . I know they want 30 PSI in the front and 33 PSI in the rear. Also has anyone put on an K&N Filter on there truck ? Thanks for sharing your video
I’ll have to take a look at that. However I’m not sure what monthly payments would be. Also, depends on what you trade/put down with regard to financing.
@@RobMotive probably still too big to fit in my garage, by bro parks his Silverado in there and my camry fits, I feel the 4runner would fit, but not the Tundra haha. We will see which vehicle I am feeling in a year.
I’ve noticed a lot of used tundras will have about 200k miles. My family has always owned Toyota’s and I’m first hand how reliable they are. Would you suggest still buying a tundra with about 190-200k miles? Rn I have a 1988 Toyota Hilux with 264k miles. Nothing wrong with engine or transmission, it’s just the body is rotting off.
I’ve been looking into getting my first truck. Gonna use it to build my house. Looking at diesel... been looking at the best Diesel engines to buys. Dodge 5.9... looks good. But looking into it deep. American diesel trucks are gonna duck you over. Toyota does it right. Back window??? Toyota wins the game. Reliability??? Toyota wins. Diesel??? Don’t really need it. Get it delivered if needed. Don’t own it, Forget diesel. Now I’m just figuring out what year and trim level I need in the tundra. Probably going to go big with a tundra. Buy used, Low miles, with the right trim level. Tundras don’t break. F 150s do, fords do, dodge breaks down, Duramax breaks down. A good tundra doesn’t break. A good Toyota doesn’t break. They just run. Built by Americans, for Americans. Toyota builds these in America.
I’m sorry to say it. But buying a ford would duck me over in the long run. Buying a dodge would too. Duramax?? Yuck. Diesel is great, but a gas driven tundra is probably gonna be more hassle free and run longer, more miles than a American born diesel will. I’ve reset the heck of of it. I would be a fools to buy anything but a tundra.
Rob, I’m off topic here but what brand of spray paint and clear coat did you use on your “RAM” letters in the front grill when you had your Rebel? krylon, rustoleum or a different brand. I’m just trying to Avoided crinkling in the paint. Kinda what happen to your Honda emblem........but your RAM paint job came out great 😎
I like Toyota, but it's nuts how Tundra owners constantly justify their decision to buy one. Also they all brag about reliability, but only a very small number of these owners actually keep the truck long enough to benefit from it. Strange.
$8000 off, is that around 20% off? 20% discount seems the norm now for Toyota/Lexus. My friends bought GX460 last year with 20% off. Wonder if anyone recently bought the Toyota Sequoia with 20% off? Thanks.
Jing Lu last weekend the Toyota dealer was offering me a great deal on a platinum sequoia. Sticker was $70 and they were going to give it to me for $62. I didn’t do it because I want the TRD sequoia.
For 5.7 SR5 trim, Double Cab, price tag is $38K. I am assuming the prices would go down once in August or Sept 2019 would start arriving into car dealerships.
I am not picky on color. I won't go for black. However, my trim would be SR5 double cab, that is what I am looking for and if my pocket allows me :). At the moment, I am being very patient as I can see on the roads, these trucks are flooded.
Do you have dog(s) by any chance? I am looking for a Tundra but dang if I can figure out if I need a crew cab or double cab. They both have their good and bad points for getting a dog in and out. I walk my dog everyday and take him in the car to the park, so he will be in an out of the truck a lot.
I have two small dogs. We never take them in the truck unless they are going to the vet. No matter which trim you get...I’d get a dog hammock for the rear seats. Best thing ever!!!!
Yeah, the hammock looks like a winner for sure. I am leaning towards the crew cab. If you can't get a crew cab to work, then a double cab won't likely work either.
No argument from me, I just got rid of a 2015 F-150 XLT Super Cab 4x4 2.7 Ecoboost. Drove them all, albeit the big three have allot of hi-tech gadgets and doodads but that’s no answer to my needs and apples to apples my 2018 Tundra 4x4 Limited with Premium Package was $9k less than a Ford Lariat
Rudy The -Cuban Gonzalez - would you mind sharing you experience with your F-150? Currently looking at the Tundra and a Lariat. My head is aching from all the pro's and con's so much so that I get head aches. Your experience would be helpful. Thanks in advance.
Deyong Yin - I've driven them all.... Tundra (twice), Ridgeline (twice), Ram (twice), GMC Denali and the Ford Lariat. The Lariat ticks all the boxes, #1 was leg room, then there was ride quality, options, MPG. So I'm pretty well set on the Lariat. I know it's pricey but then again what isn't these days??
Robert .. not sure if your lariat has the eco-boost. But do some research on that engine if you haven't already. And I know what you mean by your head spinning. I am settled on the Tundra, but dang if it isn't hard getting the numbers to work and trying to figure out just what I need.
Bob Gunner - It's been two weeks since I wrote that comment and since then I've changed my mind twice, first it was a Tundra then it was a RAM. Most recently however it's the Tundra, I just can't seem to get past the reliability factor. By the time I actually pull the trigger I will most likely gone full circle again, although I'm over the Ford, they seem to nickel and dime you at every turn.
Nobody tells the truth about how much they pay. Yeah you don’t pay “sticker price” but after dealer fees, tax, licensing etc you pay a lot. Only suckers buy new cars on loans. New rigs are basically just test runs. Buy 3-5 year old rig so there are people out there who’ve had long term reviews and beat them up and tested them out and found out the shitty things about it the hard way.
Only thing is Toyota is going to have to do a restyle the tundra soon cause they are not selling and they use good old reliable technology ie engines transmission but if you look they do have problems like all but they stand behind there trucks better
New tech means new problems. Toyota is a lot more conservative. There trucks are reliable right out the gate. I willing to bet they wont have half the problems that GM, Ford and Ram has. I took a chance on 18'Titan. Time will only tell how good it will be.
Would depend on how you optioned out the truck, wheel and tires choices and the type of lift you went with. Of course prices in different regions will vary too.
You got the bad transmission bug!! On 1st Tundra I had, the trans was gone at 48K miles. Would slip at higher speeds but decent loads. Envision going up a hill and instead of downshifting it would just start slipping. 2nd Tundra had horrible valve train noise when cold and the frame was rotting quickly. -----LUCK OF THE DRAW!!! You actually can't make your Tundra your own, it is always Toyota's color schemes, option set, etc. Domestic's blow Toyota and for that matter Honda away on that.
@@FWCaptain-kv6sm I am looking at a Tundra TRD Pro and the Rebel or Raptor. The MPG is not good on the Tundra, but when I look at the prices of the other trucks my face drops. I think I take the Tundra lower MPG over paying and extra $20k for the Raptor. I don't know. I have to make a decision soon. I also hear the other trucks are not very reliable when you add load to them. I think that is what you mean with "There's no replacement for displacement". Funny thing is I own a GX 460. The Tundra is better in fuel when you consider I have to use Premium fuel lol.
Love your channel and all the info you impart regarding the Tundra. I've been considering the purchase of a pick up for the past three months. I've watched all the video's I can find, searched the internet and quite frankly I think I've exhausted all there is to see/read with the exception of the dealership walk around video's. I like the Tundra, I like it's record of mechanical reliability and creature comfort (my two main requirements.) But in all my searching I have yet to hear anyone say that Toyota has done anything about the body/frame rust issue that I see on many video's. What I see are people crawling around under their trucks spraying the underbody with oil and other goop. Quite frankly this is the main reason that keeps me from purchasing a Toyota and for $40-$50K that's unacceptable. Can you tell me (can anyone tell me) what Toyota has done to correct this issue, I typically purchase a vehicle, I don't like leasing so please don't offer that as an option. To me that's simlpy passing a problem onto the nex owner. I know all vehicles rust, especially here in the north east due to salt and chemicals used on the roads during the winter.
Hey Robert! Thanks for watching 👍. Of all the trucks I’ve had, the Tundra is by far the best. Great comfort, power and reliability. They may not be the most cutting edge technologically, but that’s why they don’t have all kinds of gremlins!! Regarding rust, I haven’t heard of any solutions but I would say it’s probably an issue across the truck world! My suggestion would be to have it professionally undercoated by a reputable shop. Due to the wonderful chemicals that are used on the roads, I’m not sure there’s really any better option? Good with your decision on whichever model you decide to purchase 👍
ThrobbNation, thanks for the super quick reply. Decisions, decisions, decisions..... so many choices, options AND issues these days. Seems everyone has their gremlins.
Sham Pain Jones - Thanks for chiming in. Yes I realize we have to keep the wheels of industry turning thus the planned obsolescence but I don't want the frame to rust to the point of undriveability (is that a word?) before I've paid it off. I watched a video of a guy who purchased one new, drove it home crawled under it and there was already rust. Granted the rust was minuscule but I wouldn't expect there to be any at all. The truck didn't have many miles on it (under 50). I'd love to have someone convince me that I'd be driving it for the next 7-10 years without worry. I have an 11 year old Honda now and the reason I'm looking for new is because I know they don't last forever, 11 years is a good long run.
I agree, the Tundra is definitely the best looking truck after being lifted with larger tires. It looks more sporty than the other trucks do.

Right now I am interested in buying a 4runner, but the Tundra is growing on me, but I never owned a truck that big before.
The Tundra is big, but it’s amazing how small it feels.! That was one of the most surprising things for me👍
@@RobMotive probably still too big to fit in my garage, by bro parks his Silverado in there and my camry fits, I feel the 4runner would fit, but not the Tundra haha. We will see which vehicle I am feeling in a year.
I bet you’re right. The Tundra is long👍
I’ve noticed a lot of used tundras will have about 200k miles.
Personally...I wouldn’t buy any vehicle with that many miles. If you did, I’d have it checkout throughly first 👍
You have convinced me!!!
They are a great truck👍
Good choice. The Tundra is an awesome truck👍
Rob,
I’m off topic here but what brand of spray paint and clear coat did you use on your “RAM” letters in the front grill when you had your Rebel? krylon, rustoleum or a different brand. I’m just trying to Avoided crinkling in the paint. Kinda what happen to your Honda emblem........but your RAM paint job came out great 😎
I believe it was Rustoleum? You may want to check thru the vids...I think I showed the paint info in one of them👍
I bought one , but still havent picked it up yet im out of town, bought a 2020 tundra army green.
That’s awesome! Bet you can’t wait👍
@@RobMotive no, i cant im still driving my 98 chevy blazer. So this is my first tundra...
You’ll love it! They are awesome 👍
I like Toyota, but it's nuts how Tundra owners constantly justify their decision to buy one. Also they all brag about reliability, but only a very small number of these owners actually keep the truck long enough to benefit from it. Strange.
We do like our Tundras👍
tewksbury driver lol..so true. I do plan to ride the heck out of mine
The sticker prices won’t go down, but you should be able to get more off the price as the end of the year approaches and the 2019’s start arriving 👍
You're right, hopefully I would have a great deal.
I think so. Although your color and trim options will be more limited.
I am not picky on color. I won't go for black. However, my trim would be SR5 double cab, that is what I am looking for and if my pocket allows me :). At the moment, I am being very patient as I can see on the roads, these trucks are flooded.
What state was this video made in? Looks like some nice country
That was shot in Ohio👍
I wonder how the limited suspension compares to the TRD Pro suspension when driving on paved roads.
Not sure myself? However I bet it’s not quite as firm🤔
What can you tell me about transmission coolant on the tundra. Why did Toyota remove that?
I believe they didn’t feel it was necessary.
Would love to own one. Outrageously expensive. Even used. Unless you want one 10 years old with 180 thousand miles on it.
That’s for sure!! Especially right now!!😬
Do you have dog(s) by any chance?
The hammock is awesome. You’ll love the crew cab. Can’t beat the extra space!!
Does it really have bad gas mileage?
Yes it does😑
Toyota knows what there doing and will kill the truck game in the years to come
Man I hope so!!👍
Tundra remains almost the same after all these year to let the industry burn out and then hit them
Just bought a 2019 model. Same color. I was wondering where you got the parts to swap out the chrome?
Congrats 👍. I got the parts from Sparksparts.com. You can use discount code RobMotive for 5% off👍
Cizzelle I got the same but 2020. Glad to hear this
Thanks...I will buy one inshaAllah!!
11 11 I like inshallah
No argument from me, I just got rid of a 2015 F-150 XLT Super Cab 4x4 2.7 Ecoboost. Drove them all, albeit the big three have allot of hi-tech gadgets and doodads but that’s no answer to my needs and apples to apples my 2018 Tundra 4x4 Limited with Premium Package was $9k less than a Ford Lariat
Amen!!👍
I’m hearing 2021 for the new model. We’ll see?
Hear anything about 4runner?
Nope. But honestly I don’t follow it👍
New tech means new problems. Toyota is a lot more conservative. There trucks are reliable right out the gate. I willing to bet they wont have half the problems that GM, Ford and Ram has. I took a chance on 18'Titan. Time will only tell how good it will be.
It will be interesting to see with the new gen that’s coming. I’d imagine there will be more issues than normal...especially early on🤔
I wish they make 6spd manual transmission on tundra.
I’d be curious to see how that felt in the Tundra🤔
IF you plan on going off road 4x4 it doesn't have a rear locking diff! Big problem for me!
True, but isn’t the Tacoma, due to size, a better off-road alternative?
Good truck horrible on gas.... I'll stick with a Tacoma 😉
The more i watch your vids...the more i notice, u talk lime Ugene Levy (if you hate the guy, am sorry) 🤣
Lol! Well..now that’s funny 😁
How much does a 2020 trd crew max lifted cost?
Eww....that would get the heart pumping!!! Not good!!
Do you have something to back up your statement.
My only problem is....
I can’t decide between the Tacoma or the Tundra 😭😭😭😭...
Thats easy,,,if you haul more than just two people regularly, get the Tundra👍
RobMotive Yeah 5 total people.. good point. Thanks.
Hands down...the Tundra for you!!
Idk why you care about reliability. Sounds like you buy a new vehicle every other year lol.
Lol!! True....but it don’t want any issues while I have them👍
I like my tundra I don’t like the mpg
I think that’s a fair statement
It’s getting annoying watching gas prices going thru the roof I’m afraid it’ll be a dinosaur soon
It’ll be interesting to see what they do with the upcoming new model. Rumors have it being a hybrid getting 30mpg🤔
@@RobMotive there's no replacement for displacement
I know what you mean!! I have “caritis” frequently! However, my truck itch has been scratched!!😁
Amazing how complicated buying a new vehicle has become. Thanks for stopping by.
Because you like long drives to the gas station. Haha. Really want one but not gonna deal the the bad mpg.
Yeah...the MPG’s are definitely a drawback!!!!!
@@RobMotive what you pay for my gas is better and more convenient than going to the dealerships for problems and parts defect!
Nope
I don’t recommend that truck....if you want a good truck get a diesel my friend....
Diesels have their place for sure. I like the Tundra. So far the best full size I’ve had. Have you owned a Tundra?
Boring 🤢🤮
