Rob! I love your videos - they have been so helpful with my 2021 Tundra TSS SR5 chrome delete mods, thank you! My grille didn't have those 2 angry washers - just the clips and a single phillips screw making this almost as easy as the hood bulge!
Cindy I have a question. What grill did you upgrade to? I have a 2021 Trail Edition with a chrome grill that I’m trying to get rid of ASAP but none of the online stores say they work with a 2021. Thank you
Couple additional tips. The lock washers on the tabs holding the Toyota emblem can be removed with a bit of careful work. Soak the washers with WD-40 and give it a few minutes to work. I used a small metal pick tool for interior plastic panel work, but you could use a very small nail or similar and insert the point between the lock washer gaps against the plastic tab and very gently bend two or three of the metal washer sections (washer inner edge) gripping the plastic away from the tab. The washer will slide off. You can gently bend them back with a pair of needle nose pliers and they will reinstall with no issues. Take your time and go easy. Also pull the grill in warm-ish weather. Cold makes the plastic brittle and you can easily break the two long tabs that insert into the lower bumper. Great video Rob!
Rob, thanks for the videos. Just changed out my grill and hood bulge and this video made it very easy. Also, you right on those emblem washers.. had to make a small cut with my dremel on them to get the off, however I was able to reuse them!
I knew you would have an issue when you replaced the sensor B4 you transferred the front emblem. Those are called 'Push Nuts' or ' Push Keepers ' . Because the pins are snapped off. you could have used a little caulk sealant in 3-4 spots to help 'seize ' the emblen to the locator long pins try rotating them to emove them ..... slightly upwards motion. I will make a suggestion that I have done on every vehicle I've owned. That is adding a piece of fly screen ...... painted flat black to help keet years of BUGS out of the grill vents. That prolongs the life and saves the radiator grill vents from damage. a MINOR issue but evening driving in AG zones has lots of bugs. ...
Hello rob I just bought the pro grille for my tundra limited 2019 which has the tss sensor.....will it be the same work replacing like on your video? Thanks
I want to do this to mine but my paint color is cement so according to sparks I should order a black one and take to body shop to have it painted. Too expensive for me
Just got a new 2021 Tundra and looking to replace the grill just like you did. I visited the sparks parts and wanted to know which honeycomb color you recommend for a magnetic gray set up. Was yours black or flat gray? Thanks for the content.
Many thanks for this tutorial. I just swapped out my 2019 SR5 crewmax chrome grill for a color matching 2019 TRD pro grill. Used your promo code as well. I’m now waiting for my bumper covers from Sparks and will utilize your other video. Thanks again!
Great video, thanks for sharing. Do you know if the TRD Pro grill will fit as well since the sensor cover is in a lower position than your sensor location?
Another excellent video, the truck looks great! I wish I knew these parts were available before I wrapped my grill. LOl, I use to do the same thing with the push pins before I figured out how to properly remove them. Hate to tell you how many I have ruined. Did you have any TSS sensor calibration issues after the change over?
Hey Rob!! I have a 2018 Tundra with the TSS system. The other night I had a bird hit & break the honeycomb part of my grill, so needless to say I have to replace it. I’ve contacted Sparks Parts, as you mentioned, for the replacement grill, and now I’m waiting to hear back from them. I read where you said that you DID NOT have to recalibrate the sensor behind the emblem. Is this correct? Have you has ANY issues with the sensor reading correctly since your grill swap? I’m asking because Toyota & a local body shop are telling me that it has to be recalibrated. Please advise so I’ll know for sure. I don’t see how it would need to be recalibrated if you’re just swapping a grill for a similar grill. I’ll wait for your reply!! Thanks, Monty
They’re called pushnuts and I don’t think there is a way to actually get them off without damaging them in some way. You can cut the pushnut with a pair of cutters and then just replace the pushnuts.
Ahh..that’s it!! In hindsight...I should have probably just cut and replaced them👍. Although I think the existing clips are more than enough to hold them👍
I don’t have access to the Pro Grille other that the usual Google search. Not sure on the price? Wouldn’t be much less than the price of new..which It basically is👍
Nice video... I changed mine yesterday and the one comment I have is to be very careful pulling up. I pulled up some and broke three of the four lower tabs. I should have just pulled the bottom straight out.
