    Rob! I love your videos - they have been so helpful with my 2021 Tundra TSS SR5 chrome delete mods, thank you! My grille didn't have those 2 angry washers - just the clips and a single phillips screw making this almost as easy as the hood bulge!

      Cindy I have a question. What grill did you upgrade to? I have a 2021 Trail Edition with a chrome grill that I’m trying to get rid of ASAP but none of the online stores say they work with a 2021. Thank you

      @@twoody138171 I believe the 2021 will be the same as 2020… which is the same since 2018 when they added the TSS.

    Couple additional tips. The lock washers on the tabs holding the Toyota emblem can be removed with a bit of careful work. Soak the washers with WD-40 and give it a few minutes to work. I used a small metal pick tool for interior plastic panel work, but you could use a very small nail or similar and insert the point between the lock washer gaps against the plastic tab and very gently bend two or three of the metal washer sections (washer inner edge) gripping the plastic away from the tab. The washer will slide off. You can gently bend them back with a pair of needle nose pliers and they will reinstall with no issues. Take your time and go easy. Also pull the grill in warm-ish weather. Cold makes the plastic brittle and you can easily break the two long tabs that insert into the lower bumper. Great video Rob!

    I knew you would have an issue when you replaced the sensor B4 you transferred the front emblem.
    Those are called 'Push Nuts' or ' Push Keepers ' . Because the pins are snapped off. you could have used a little caulk sealant in 3-4 spots to help 'seize ' the emblen to the locator long pins
    try rotating them to emove them ..... slightly upwards motion.
    I will make a suggestion that I have done on every vehicle I've owned. That is adding a piece of fly screen ...... painted flat black to help keet years of BUGS out of the grill vents. That prolongs the life and saves the radiator grill vents from damage. a MINOR issue but evening driving in AG zones has lots of bugs.

    Hey Rob!! I have a 2018 Tundra with the TSS system. The other night I had a bird hit & break the honeycomb part of my grill, so needless to say I have to replace it. I’ve contacted Sparks Parts, as you mentioned, for the replacement grill, and now I’m waiting to hear back from them. I read where you said that you DID NOT have to recalibrate the sensor behind the emblem. Is this correct? Have you has ANY issues with the sensor reading correctly since your grill swap? I’m asking because Toyota & a local body shop are telling me that it has to be recalibrated. Please advise so I’ll know for sure. I don’t see how it would need to be recalibrated if you’re just swapping a grill for a similar grill. I’ll wait for your reply!!

      I would if I had it. However I dealt with Sparksparts and they determined what would work for my truck 👍

      Oh ok because they have the sr grill but that’s a flat black insert and the trd sport grill is a grey insert I think you have the grey insert

    Really not much difference.In my case,I replaced the chrome stock one /bulge on my black SR5 2016 with a black TRD Pro and it really changed the whole truck

      Did you do a 2018+ year grill on your 2016? I want to do the same thing but I’m afraid to order the grill and it won’t fit. If so where did you buy yours?

  • @okchief
    @okchief 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Why mess with the sensor. The center piece of your old and new grills are the same.. To get the color match molding all you had to do was swap the chrome molding for the color match molding.. Those grills are two pieces and easily separate.

    • @RobMotive
      @RobMotive  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Perhaps, but since I had the new pieces I chose to use them👍

    The grille seems to be the same. Can one not order just the bulge and surround(s)?

    • @RobMotive
      @RobMotive  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not that I’m aware. I believe the center part is always included 🤔

    • @lawnguy3267

      @@RobMotive They must've changed the design in 2018. I know when I changed to the TRD Pro grille on my 2015, I only had to purchase the grille itself and not the surrounds or bulge for my Platinum.

    • @RobMotive
      @RobMotive  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s because the Platinum is already color matched👍

    • @lawnguy3267
      @lawnguy3267 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RobMotive That has nothing to do with grille itself. The grille you removed is identical to the one you replaced it with. All you changed was the bulge and the surround. All I changed was the grille.

    • @RobMotive
      @RobMotive  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope. What I removed was chrome. What I replaced it with is color matched!!

    Those pesky push nuts also caused me to have to break off the plastic studs, horrible design in my opinion to make something that you essentially have to break in order to remove it. I ended up 3D printing some little feet/flanges to epoxy to the sensor cover to use a small threaded stud on. Now it’ll come off with two hex nuts instead of those dang push nuts.

    Some strange editing you did here. Looks like you released the three small clips along the bottom first, but cut that part out of the video? As well as the exact moment you pushed to engage all the clips when installing? Would have been handy to see exactly how you did it. I'm guessing you struggled a bit and don't want people to see. It's okay, we are all fallible creatures.
