  • In this video I show you how to run a Commander Pro without the iCue software. Many fan and RGB controllers require buggy and bloated software like Corsair iCue to work. So I wanted to see if it was possible to get the same or better functionality with a fraction of the resources.

    • @CyberCPU
      @CyberCPU  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@astritkazimi6545 Yes, most motherboards will display an error at post if they don't detect an RPM from the CPU fan. Since there is no CPU fan in a water cold system the common practice is to plug the pump into the CPU header in order to give the motherboard an RPM reading.

      @@astritkazimi6545 Yes you can, I have two pumps in parallel where I do this. Most motherboards you go to BIOS and CPU fan speed, select "ignore" option
      This allows you PC to boot with no fan for the cpu and will not complain during boot about 0rpm on the cpu fan . No reason to use the mobo headers at all.

    I've had a Corsair Commander Pro sitting in my case unused for four years now. I *hated* their iCue software, so the Commander Pro has just sat there unused for all this time. I have been using FanControl for the last year, and *love* it. Thanks to you, I can now go back to using my Commander Pro without all the iCue bloatware.

    For fan control, the real fun starts when you start using "mix" curves. It allows you to combine multiple curves together, like with a Max function, which will output the maximum of two ( or more ) curves. Thus you could combine your CPU and GPU curve, and it would spin up either if your CPU OR GPU gets hot.

      That's excellent. I was just wondering if there was a way to make the middle case fan respond to either my CPU or GPU.

      A lot of case setups don't really benefit from this.
      However, blow-through style cases REALLY just wanna roughly match case fan noise level with the loudest component in the system, and it's a good way to set that up.
      And the most common style of new case you'll find around.

    It's a nice open source software but still growing and probably for a professional like you it's a easy thing to understand and fix the problem. I use nzxt cam, Asus Ai suite fan controller, armoury crate and aura creator. Ya that's to much bloating in my system. If they can make a open source app with integrated access to control fan speed and RGB, motherboard RGB and lot's of other 3rd party RGB or fan controller is one app. That would be a day i get this piece of g on my PC. Currently it still crashes and that may be a big issue for a newbie like me. But thanks for the video. I will keep an eye on this project because it looks promising to me.

    Hi, thanks for the video. My motherboard doesn't have an onboard 2-pin temp sensor, so I'm planning on buying a Commander Pro so I can connect a water temp sensor to my loop and have the fan & pump speeds based on the water temp. Do you think I'll be able to achieve this with Rem0o's FanControl software? I'm a bit worried because the Commander Pro plugin seems to no longer be actively developed and on this latest fork it states that "Temperature sensors not yet active.". Thanks again for your video!

    • @CyberCPU
      @CyberCPU  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The current Commander Pro plugin works fine and you could definitely set it up based on water temperature. However, I did that before and it didn't work very well. Water temperature just doesn't scale very well. It takes a while for water to heat up and cool down so it doesn't correspond with CPU and GPU temp well. I find it more effective to use the CPU/GPU temperature to adjust pump and fan speed.
      When you're basing your fan speed off of water temperature your CPU or GPU will heat up unchecked as water temperature stays relatively the same for a long period of time. However, if you base fan speed off of the CPU/GPU you can react much faster on rising temperatures.

    Here is what I have found, you don't even need any of that. If you want to use the commander pro, with it can be done where you disable the services, and it wont allow them to run. Also if you update all the firmware on the commander pro, and its lighting notes, you can still control all the lighting to the way you want. The commander pro can handle all that without ICue. However, if your like me, and have set the lighting up, and don't intend to change you can install all the fans onto the motherboard, including the pump, and then control them of the motherboard. Doing it so the motherbaord controls all the fans takes away some controls through windows, if you dont want to run the motherboard stuff through windows. I have done it so I have a nice quite system, without the noise and bloatware of icue, armory crate, app center and all the rest of it. You just have to know and learn what your system, and be confident in your abilities.

    • @TheRealJLucas
      @TheRealJLucas 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The way you have your system set up, you might as well be using DRGB 12 Volt, aura by asus controls the ARGB header or headers if you are lucky to have two of them from the motherboard and whatever that is set to whatever is connected to that header will follow, you cannot individually address each item in your system regarding ARGB, a stands for addressable so you are not getting but maybe 25% functionality.
      ARGB is powered with five volts while digital RGB is powered with 12 volts with four pins, ARGB has three pins often with the 4th pin being missing on pin number three. By the way look for a program called signal RGB I have never looked back.

  • @choppergirl
    @choppergirl 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Your fans are best controlled by the UEFI bios, if it supports fan curves. If controlled in the BIOS, they work all the time no matter what, and the UEFI bios on my Gigabyte mobo is really very good for fan curves. Control up to like 6 channels of fans... up to 18 if you wanted with 1 to 3 splitters. I don't even use the PWM controllers on the COrsair black boxes, because those only work while your software is running in windows. WHich is not all the tiem.. like while you are in BIOS, booting up, shutting down, running linux, etc. So run your fans directly off the PWM headers on yoru motherboard, and only use the RGB ports on your Corsair black boxes. You don't need Corsair controlling your fan speeds, unless you *really* want to use their temperature probes to do something special.

    Sorry for the double comment, but just wanted to add one thing...
    Guys/Gals/Etc., FanControl is capable of far more than what is covered in this video. CyberCPUT Tech couldn't cover all of FanControl's functionality in any reasonable length video; there's just too much to cover!
    Most all of the questions asked so far in this video's comments could be answered by just READING THE FanControl DOCUMENTATION! :)
    So many people have commented that the video didn't cover such-and-such feature of FanControl... well of course not! Just too much stuff to cover. IMO, the video did a *great* job of getting someone started with basic FanControl functionality, and it is left to the user to put in a *small* amount of effort to actually learn the software and what it is capable of.
    TL;DR: RTFM, peeps! There's great stuff in there. : D

      OpenRGB had me so frustrated while doing the research for this video I actually had given up on it at one point and tried to find something different but couldn't find anything with the same functionality.
      At one point I thought the only solution was to install iCue and set the hardware lighting profile and then uninstall it. However you'd have to reinstall iCue every time you wanted to change the RGB.
      Luckily in the end I was able to figure out a fairly consistent way to do it that I put in the video.
      On a side note I did that entire section on OpenRGB and didn't have a single crash and everything worked perfect but I forgot to hit record in OBS so none of it was recorded and I had to redo the whole section and that time it crashed as you can see several times. 😂🤣

    the PC industry especially the mainboard manufacturers have to do something... I mean the manufacturers can bring out a uniform software together. which also works and is not bloatware that runs 20 services and programs in the background. But no, as always, some factors play a role, especially money... it's just a shame...

    • @CyberCPU
      @CyberCPU  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think a lot of it has to do with branding, however it would be nice for there to be a universal standard kind of like there is for NVIDIA GPUs. Every Nvidia graphics card can be tweaked with MSI afterburner. Even non MSI cards. If we had a similar standard for RGB then the company with the best RGB program would win and get their branding on everyone's system.
      However this isn't preferable for companies that have crappy RGB software. So there's really no incentive to create a universal standard. The only reason we have the universal standard with Nvidia is because of Nvidia. Even though MSI dominates the market for overclocking software they don't even follow a universal standard for their own RGB control interface.

    I installed the Motherboard CHipset drivers and rebooted. No change. Just the RAM shows up as a device in iCUE. None of my fans or H150i water block rgb. I h8te3 this grrrbage so much... I've spent all week on this rubbish and I'm still looking at rainbow pvke.

    40 celsius on CPU temp when idle is pretty hot, my CPU runs at 25-30c when idle.

      I believe I tried several RGB programs and wasn't really happy with any of them. I can't remember if I used that one specifically, but it rings a bell.

      Some people like RGB and some people don't. However, settings RGB aside, the Commander Pro is a great fan controller. Being able to independently control many fans is a great benefit. In fact with the right fan curves you could gain a considerable amount of performance.

    i like the fan control software, it even controls the fan power slowdown when stopping, you did not mention that, you can control it to wind down over time to cool down your aio.
    Fusion 2.0 works better when system is turned off. Fusion 2.0 controls 1 of my 3 strimer rgb wires, my mb lighting, ram and m.2 lights. (is there a replacement i can use?

      The fan controller software is way better. The RGB software isn't but it only needs to run when you want to change the RGB. It doesn't run all the time like iCue.

      A 12 gen i5 is obviously going to be faster then a first gen Ryzen 3. However, a 4th generation Ryzen 5 will walk all over a 12 gen i5. So it depends a lot on what your comparing.
