I think I was at 50-60 hours or something, having crushed all mini-games up until that point, when I unlocked Johnny's Treasure Trove...and was hit by the brutal reality that I was nowhere near close to fully "completing" the game. The fact that there's unique flavor text for every single collectible is also a beautiful indication of the love and care that went into this game.
At 85 hours I had finished the game and unlocked the play log, went through it and gasped at just how big this game is
It’s sobering
I saw that and just accepted I ain't gonna get 100%
@@malpercio123 I'm at 85 hours and I'm just now heading for Nibelheim 😅 I'm taking 'taking my time' to a who'e new level 😂
@@HunterForHire422I’m 140hrs in and not done :)
Me? Gongaga
Or as Google seems to want to translate it as:
"Should? Work"
Me? Gongagagagagagaga-
all we hear is radio gaga, me gongaga , radio gaga, ME? GONGAGA!
I love that there's a "Me? Gongaga!" meme for every season, including a One Winged Angel remix
Yes, you nailed it, thank you, moving on
Max, the appreciation you show this game is genuinely heart warming. I love that you are taking things slow, looking at all the detail in the environments and listening to npc dialogue. You only get one opportunity to experience a game for the very first time and you are truly savouring every moment! Lots of people worked very hard on this game and the respect you are showing them with your time, care and attention to detail is wonderful. Thank you for not just blindly rushing through it.
It's a bit cringe at times, actually. Like how many times can you pretend to have a religious experience whenever something mildly unexpected happens? There's is being appreciative and then there's not being critical whatsoever. Max falls into this for anything FF7 related.
I'm really glad Max looked away from that story trailer when it revealed Cisnnei's face in it, I feel like this would have been best saved as a surprise
When I saw her in the game I literally gasped from shock
I'm not upset how SQEX already shows Cissnei, I'm glad how they secured to us that she's present in Rebirth! I was hoping for her, so that ruined surprise was an actual surprise for me.
Definitely caught me by surprise. Was a nice moment seeing her not just be thrown away after Crisis Core.
I feel like the trailers give away too much in general. I only saw very brief muted clips and screenshots of some of the trailers, so I went into Rebirth practically completely blind (never played the original either). I watched the trailers afterwards instead, and lo and behold, half of the things shown would have definitely lost their magic if I had seen them before playing. I definitely think the trailers are aimed towards people who know the OG rather than newcomers. [Heavy spoiler warning for below]
I recently even saw a trailer that straight up showed Sephiroth Hell's Gating Aerith, which is completely insane. I understand it's a "dumbledore dies" type of spoiler, but there are a lot of people (myself included) who were so far removed from the Final Fantasy stuff throughout their life that they legitimately never knew about Aerith's demise and then they just pop that out in a trailer. This is even more ridiculous when you consider them posting about "being respectful of other players and not spoiling events" on their official Twitter page. It makes no sense.
Sorry who's this chick?
"If it ain't in the present, it's in the past."
Great line to tell yourself to combat anxiety!
I like how the Gongaga region music is like Jungle meets Scottish highlands
I got Braveheart vibes from it
I clocked in around 105 hours when I beat the game. And what's neat is that the game will actually pause the timer if you idle on the menu for long enough, so it accounted for the times when I left the game running while I went to do other stuff. *It is that big.*
That's what I clocked in, too, by the time the credits rolled. I have my complaints, but the game does so much right that I still consider this my game of the year.
I’m at the end of chapter 12 and have about 127 hours clocked in already and I was wondering if it counted the times I just left the game running before it went to sleep, maybe only max 10-20 hours of idle time if it did keep the clock running but still I wasn’t sure exactly how many playing hours I clocked in. I’m also trying to do everything before moving the story along so I’ve 90-95% the game up to the current point getting the max rating and scores for almost every mini game and side quests. Game is massive and still got hard mode and 2 more chapters lol wtf
2:36:51 . once i realized it was Cissnei and the crisis core music kicked in i was shitting so many bricks .
Same
MULTIPLE BRICKS WERE SHAT
@@ChiZillaaa A minimum of 3 bricks.
(minor spoiler)
her side quests in Gongaga are pure Zack fan service and its amazing
One of my favorite tracks!
"Why are there so many Johnnies?"
"... Yuffie"
"I really don't have time to be playing around with some stimulator"
Also Yuffie 🥴
I understand why people hate exploring gongaga, but goddamn I swear the music makes it magical the first time you are exploring the region.
And then the music keeps playing…
Yea the gongaga jungle music makes me feel like I'm in lion king which is a good thing.
@@tophfbthe music is perfect
YES! The music hit me so hard. I was a little fatigued with the game after Corel, especially after the didnt let me complete the zone frustratingly. The Gongaga OST is amazing!
Why do people hate exploring Gongaga?
Fans: we want more Johnny in part 2
Square: more Johnnys
"FF7 Rebirth is what people expected FF15 to be"
Truer words couldn't have been spoken.
Cissnei showing up was like my favorite surprise in the entire game since I didn't watch any of the trailers. I adored her in Crisis Core so getting to see her again is fantastic.
I don't think she's even in the trailers, and they spoil quite a number of surprises. They really wanted this to come out of nowhere.
@@jacobpamplin6449she was in the last big trailer
@@Animexcel was she? I didn't notice then. My bad.
@Animexcel i think SE posted her profile on the main page on twitter too, so Cissnei was spoiled for me :/
I would've died of hapiness if i saw her as a surprise
@@TheHan464646 yeah, this is why i skipped the last few trailers and didn't follow the social media channels. It was a real pleasant surprise to see Cissnei again. Hope we get to see more of her in game 3.
Max? Gongaga!
He? Gongaga!
Him? Gongaga!
I was so shocked seeing Cissnei in Gongaga, such a cool moment and I’m glad they added her into the story
Makes Crisis Core Reunion canon now.
The new Gongaga theme is so awesome. Couldn’t stop listening to it.
Same. It seems odd to see so many grumbling about a jungle being difficult to navigate when it's a vibe the whole time.
I didn’t know there were notes on the items at Seaside Inn. I just bawled at Jessie’s Loveless poster. This game is just perfect
The Gongaga track is GORGEOUS
I didnt want to leave just because of the music lol
absolutely! fave region theme so good
Really. To me its the only weak track in the game, i got sick of it pretty quickly due to the short loop it has and repetitive vocals.
Pretty chill.
Agreed, the music in Gongaga is such a great blend of Celtic, Indian, African, and other influences. It plays into something I’ve always loved about FF7 in particular: it’s a kind of melting pot that transcends any one particular cultural influence.
Gongaga never looked soo good like it does in Rebirth! And the music?!! Boy oh boy...
On another note, I'll miss the J-Squad 😭
Stay strong Johnny boy!
2:46:48 Exactly my thoughts when I first saw FF8. I wanted an FF7 remake right away with those graphics back then
"I feel like ive been playing about 20-25 hours"
Ironically enough this is how far youd be along after that long in OG FFVII
THE ME GONGAGA REGION IS SO BEAUTIFUL AND THE MUSIC IS SO GOOD. I just wish it wasn't so hard to navigate lol. Still the village is WORTH IT.
Yeah, Cissnei Is GORGEOUS.
She's second only to Tifa imo
Cissnei❤
Nah. I hated it. It’s kind of like some tribal vibes to it and then aids charity drive vibes. I liked all the other tracks way more.
@@asu5632huh?
Sorry Jessie....your no long the third hottest girl in ff7.
I kept the game on for a good hour just to enjoy the music
GOTY 2024 without a doubt!
Me? Gongaga
Nibbleheim
Nah too many minigames
@colinnixon7739 well you cant please everyone.
@@colinnixon7739 Is that a jab at IGN's style of game reviews where they sometimes take something that's generally regarded as a great thing about a game and then spin it as if it was a negative?
Mushroom? Gongaga.
The game director was so inspired by Horizon: Zero Dawn that he practically recreated the jungle environments from that game into Rebirth. It’s so freaking gorgeous!
No wonder it looked so familiar
As I walked around gongaga I was expecting to see Stalkers man. The whiplash hit me that I wasn't playing horizon.
I hope Izo is the one that makes Cloud's advent children sword
This game never gets boring
That doppelganger move made yuffie so op 😅
The Naruto fan in me screamed when I found that weapon. A true ninja. 😭
Lost my absolute marbles when first arriving Gongaga
The missing shuriken (from the sly cooper-esque base walls covered in mementos from past adventures ~ i.e. the weapons on the walls at Johnny's seaside inn- Max showed everyone except tifa's weapons) is the Cacstar paid dlc if anyone didn't know.
If I go back and pay for the dlc, would it show up? Or would I have to start a new game over?
@@gerrya2133 good question, not sure personally. 10$ is pretty steep to probably not replay the intermission because idk why I would, the only thing I would gain is a decoration that doesn't give any achievements or unlockables or items, hell I don't think it would even be in the play log so only the most shrewd completionists would care about it.
If you do happen to purchase it and if your game updates after restarting it once or twice and the cacstar is on the wall at Johnny's then I guess let me know
Low key, the Johnny bit can be a lesson for us with low self confidence....PRESS ON JOHNNY!
“I need a bed and breakfast after that” that’s exactly what I was saying after that god forsaken quest man that shit took forever 💀 imma need that whole hotel off you lil bro
The Gongaga music parallels a key theme of the original game - the planet is a child, when healthy (like in Gongaga or at the end of the original game) we hear children singing & laughing - but when it's hurt, or mako is heavily diminished, we hear the cries of the planet (as seen from the original game space sequence andexplained by Cid, the planet is a child, hurt, frightened and alone in a big scary universe - in later in the Gongaga sequence where Tifa goes into the Lifestream).
Final Fantasy XVII has some major homework
I just went back and watched Max's reaction to the ff7 remake trailer,I'm glad I decided to watch along with your game play. I'm not playing it myself but I can tell this game means alot to you.
Can't watch as playing through myself, but this zone is the one that finally won me over. Love jungle biomes, and such an interesting place. Still plenty for me to do down the southern end of it yet.
I love how excited you got over Johnny's friggin cabin of acquired items
Man, I wanna live in Gongaga.
Kid G, straight from the Sonic universe
Kid G straight out of the overworld of Final Fantasy 7.
His voice sounds straight outta the Sonic series. He did a fantastic job
@@RasenRendanXI instantly recognized that that was Zeno Robinson, he’s been popping up in a lot of stuff lately
More like Zeio Robinson
HURRY UP AND UPLOAD THE NEXT PART I NEED TO SEE ALL THE REACTIONS LOL
Edit: I put in 125 hours within 6 days of the release. I have been waiting for FOREVER to see Max's reaction to what's to come man.
For really real!
you could just go to his twitch
I'm also super eager!!! Since I just don't have the time to watch live streams anymore, but when a new episode is up here I get ultraaaaa happy
@@trigoyouramigo5973 I actually can't. I'm waiting for Twitch to get it the eff together and give me my damn account back. My email was hacked a few months ago and it's just been so annoying trying to get twitch support, sadly.
I could make another account but I want to recover mine
Can always do the twitch VOD's. He's quite a bit further than this.
Max brings up a good point at the very end, about future FF titles. I have to wonder if this approach will be used in future FF entries, like multiple parts. Because It's crazy hard to do all of this for a first game entry. A couple of examples: Combat was started in Remake, then refined here. Second: These regions and open worlds are going to be used again in part 3. Part 3 will have more refined combat, more refinement to existing regions and new ones. These all build on top of systems from the previous game. This simply isn't done when you make just 1 game, unless you develop for 5+ years, which is crazy just financially alone. I am very interested in seeing what they do for future FF games.
I play an area and the next day I listen to these streams - and I am amazed that Max's reactions to these amazing moments mostly match mine too!
this game is the epitome of epicness - 50+ hours and Its flying by!!
Gongaga is my favorite zone! The music, the vibe. The sense of discovery when you go through that certain civlization ruins in there... The reactor too and the lifestream scene. Sooo good!
I love the Gongaga music, it even changes a bit later and adds some vocals. It's my favorite new original music. Something about it just feels therapeutic to me, I can listen for hours.
HERE WE GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Was i the only person who actually really enjoyed exploring Gongaga?
No. it was awesome.
I loved it.
I liked it.
Fun to explore, annoying to navigate
Gongaga was probably one of my favorite areas
They really nailed Gongaga from the music to the aesthetics of the town. Even the headstones were properly placed from the OG.
I really do hope FF9 gets this treatment tbh. I know it’s a little wishful thinking but man.. that game would be magical updated and redone.
I'm more of a FF6 person myself but, after seeing the Memoria Project video, I got excited for a FF9 remake, too.
@@GrahamChapman FF6 would be my next choice for sure man.
@@EPICSAWIKI I would love for it to happen to VI, but at the same time I fear it would feel too similar as remake but not as good. The story and game structure as a three game series would be very similar, but it's probabaly more serious in tone. Maybe that's better? Maybe that's worse? It all just depends on the execution.
It's been confirmed that FF9 is getting a remake, just not on the same scale as FF7 ReM or ReB. Actually confirmed too, not just from that NVIDIA leak a few years back.
It would have to be made very differently than rebirth though, There are so many things I dislike about rebirth I cant even begin its one the worst best games ever. Such a good story and lovely towns but the world is just so dull and empty and fighting is absolutely horrible. Why isnt there a single human being outside of cities?
Ya know, I think the Gongaga map was peak level design. As someone thats been doing everything I can to complete each map, the complexity kind of just beat me into submission. If I wasnt willing to put away the damn map and just walk and admire the actual world and see where it takes me, then why bother? Why should I want expanded and intricate maps in the last game if I cant even immerse myself in this one map?
Been having an even MORE amazing time since.
Me, Gongaga.
You, Gongaga.
WE, Gongaga.
No thanks
I think Gongaga would've been completely fine if there was a "return back" mushroom for every normal mushroom.
And also if the map better displayed differences in elevation more clearly
There should be an option to either use the mushroom or get there normally but its slower
That purple sword is frikkin awesome
The hits never stop with this game
Who else felt like their hearts were both filled with excitement while breaking at the sound of the Crisis Core theme?
The gongaga music reminds me of star fox adventure i dont know why though.
Zack’s in Gongaga that means his about to see the best scene in the game.
The one where cloud does the thing and we're like oh shit did he really do the thing!
@@petebagwell6666That thing he does is so sick and surprising. And then that whole Tifa thing? Fantastic.
This game is freaking huge. I’ve spent hours wandering around and fighting monsters so I can beat Midgardsormr. I’m still in the very beginning of the game.
IT'S THE MOST BEAUTIFUL THING I EVER SEEN
A literal “reject modernity” reference😂
The music at the start of Gongaga made me think of Grizzly Hills from WoW. It's not on that level (That's a much longer piece of music that changes depending on where you are in the zone) but it's really nice all the same.
Small thing to say, but I really like that you only have to make things once to get crafting exp and that leveling up crafting is based off this. you won't be Skyrim style crafting 5 million potions to level up.
Zakc; “Me? Gongaga” 😮💛
1:52:20 Gongaga's theme has some of that 90s Disney magic in it. It’s crazy just how good it is. It makes you feel like you’re not playing FF7 anymore 👍🏻
Also Cissnei's a true one.
Zack asked her to take care of his parents back in Crisis Core and she did 2:36:38 👍🏻.
Holy shit I totally missed the weapons on display at Johnny's
I ended up using barrier on Cait Sith a lot when I first got him.
When I played crisis core reunion when it released I was very excited getting to gongaga even tho it wasn't very big but I got the sense I would like this area in rebirth. Surprised was a understatement upon hearing the Gongaga theme for the first time. I was reminded of my kid days growing up in Jamaica.
The weapons displayed at the Seaside Inn are from Remake
Been waiting to watch you get to this part for the big reveal
He's quit a bit further than this on the Twitch VOD's
Weapon seller spitting some wisdom.
Max, just some friendly advice. Link Enemy Skill and HP absorb and use Plasma Discharge then Sonic Boom you’ll never die and melt everything it’s a lot of fun.
I was so damned happy to get the trove! I actually left Johnny's quest floating, I though it'd be some inconsequential type stuff and proceeded onto Gongaga.... little did I know, I was missing out on handing in a Tonberry crown and unlocking the trove! I love that the game keeps you on your toes as to when its about to unleash a new system.
Phew. I though we wouldn't get an episode today
I have 145 hours in the game and I loved every second of it money well spent
Time to do frog challenge runs

The restraint of max not calling this part ME GONGAGA
The size of this game just keeps impressing me like im in gongaza like theres morrrreeeee?
Seeing Cissnei alive in Rebirth made me so incredibly happy, I had to see Max's reaction.
Hey you, if you are reading this comment, Gongaga is not the only thing that is gorgeous. You are gorgeous!
I love this game so much

Looking forward to seeing it myself 💚
Man, that Zack's Crisis Core theme kicked in
80 hours just arrived at cosmo Canyon 😅
I am a fan Since og ff7 and rebirth is really a very good ff thats what i wanted since ff12
Yuffie is so vastly and incredibly improved in this game. Love her
1:42:04 Max went full anime mode when Cait said Gongaga was past the shallows. Max simply uttered, "Aerith..."
2:46:55 deserves a mention too
the music in Gongaga... god damn! Reminds me of music in an area in World of Warcraft Wrath of the Lich King , GRIZZLY HILLS
Me? GONGAGA
Hope this game sells better because this game is how you truly modernize an rpg
Hey Max, I started playing the OG ff7 for the first time ever after the eight video because of you and I just finished with Corel Prison and am now heading to Gongaga.
51:55 Discount Jak without Daxter
I do wish they would let you use the weapons from remake after you unlock the hotel for Johnny. Even if it's on NG+ or something.
I highly doubt you’d change this, but since you don’t have the mini map on anyway, any thoughts on moving your face cam to top right? Top left is blocking TONS of the interface and other than the minimap (which as I’ve mentioned you haven’t used in several episodes now) there isn’t much at all in that corner. It would improve the watch. Love the playthru either way dood!
Oh God, Shadow Clones of Johnny. It's hilarious yet scary!
Max skipping the last 2 protorelic quests in Corel had me like 😭😭😭 lol. That’s just the completionist in me though 😂
Missed opportunity to call this video "Me? Gongaga." You were this close to greatness.
its great that Max takes his time to appreciate everything the devs worked on.
Legit cried with the Cissnei reveal
I wasn’t a fan of Crisis Core back in the day, but seeing Cissnei and hearing CC music did feel special.
I have been playing back through Remake while I watch this and wait for this game to come to PC.
