Tifa having the “Cloud selects his memories” scene feels very deliberate. In the original game, that scene is all about Tifa putting Cloud back together again. Sephiroth knows this, and is targeting Tifa. The planet wants to protect her, and be saved. That’s my theory anyway (haven’t beat the game yet)
That's a good theory actually.
The only thing I would argue is that Seph never really seemed like the type to be worried about anyone getting in his way enough that he would bother to "target" them.
More likely, Tifa was torn between knowing the truth and not knowing how Cloud would react, and asked the planet (maybe even Aerith) for some help putting him back together, so he could whoop up on Seph.
I do think Seph "targeted" Cloud specifically, but they may have been simply bc he viewed him like all those other black robed dudes who were injec5ed with jenova cells.
But thats just my take from the original game. This game contains a lot more info to work with.
I think the Weapon swallowed her very purposefully so they could re-establish her trust in Cloud. She could have easily swam to safety, but the weapon knew this was its chance to show her very specific memories that would help her understand that Cloud even as a child saved her. This sequence was called “Where she belongs” because Fate and thus the Lifestream are very much aware of how important Tifa is to Cloud and it’s therefore in the planet’s best interest to ensure Tifa’s trust and faith in him. Without Tifa safe and aligned with our protagonist, as the only one capable of helping him break his influence with Sephiroth, the fate of the planet is at a huge risk
Basically, saving Cloud from Sephiroth’s influence = Tifa helping him recover his real self in the Lifestream later, and is mandatory for the Planet’s survival. It is also why Sephiroth from within the Lifestream tried to kill Tifa, as he has this entire time tried to drive a wedge between her & Cloud since she’s the key to Real Cloud & he knows how much of an obstacle to his plans she is.
I’m honestly floored by this addition to the game, it is handled so beautifully, and gives us a tiny taste of the Lifestream Sequence in the next game where Real Cloud is recovered.
@@tBeNz0 my take that could be a bit spoilery is that, since it appears this Sephiroth knows the original/destined story, he knows how instrumental Tifa is to Cloud finding himself again, and he's trying to prevent the whole "Cloud selects his memories" to ensure is absolutely lost and controllable until the end.
This makes a damn good reason (in Rebirth) for him to try and target Tifa as he did.
Well it is a sequel, no reason for to follow the og beat by beat. Why cant people just enjoy it for what it is.
This was the only only time ever Sephiroth showed any physical exertion it shows how strong the weapons are.

@@RasenRendanX Personally, I think Tifa is a bad match for Cloud and it sort of feels forced, and like Tifa is Cloud's fallback plan if Aerith plan doesn't work out. I think people are just crazy about Tifa/Cloud because they think Tifa is hot. That's her best characteristic and it's not close.

She owned her own business and was a substitute mother for Marlene, while also moonlighting with Avalanche and keeping up Zangan's training. When Cloud fell and his status was questionable, did Tifa sit around and mope? Nope, she went to get information about something massive from Don Cornero. And that's just stuff from the original FF7! In this and in Remake not only does she do all that, but she also takes time to do the neighborhood watch and does a side business of water purifiers.
Meanwhile, let's see what Aerith does...oh right, just kinda helps out around the neighborhood and maybe tends to the garden at her house and the church, the sells those flowers for 1 gil a piece (or gives it away). Basically what any NPC could do. What did Aerith do when Zack never came around again? Oh right, just daily life as usual and trying to not worry until Cloud popped around, where she instantly took a shine to him because of his similarities to Zack. Sorry, but the only great thing that Aerith ever accomplished was being impaled on Sephiroth's sword. Hey, if dead chicks with new holes is your kink, by all means, you do you - but don't disparage greater women just because they also happen to have the bigger rack.

THEY WENT ABSOLUTELY INSANE WITH THE GONGAGA REACTOR. It really felt like a cosmic event seeing what they did with Tifa and the Weapon.
That whole segment with Tifa and the weapon is probably one of my favorite sequences in the game. The music was so good!.
I feel the same. The boss fight against Scarlet 2.0 and then that whole new cutscene? Loved every second of it. It's so cool, and the best part is that it's brand new! It doesn't even build on nostalgia. The new stuff is super cool

In the og game when Tifa and Cloud go into the lifestream it seems like Tifa is an expert, but they don't explain how, so this was an amazing set up for the part. When that scene finally happens, Tifa will know what to do

My jaw was completely dropped during the entire cloud/tifa and lifestream sequence. I was shocked in a way that I didn’t think was possible.
I love this game so much.
Everyone talks about the Cloud scene in the Reactor but the scene after it with Him and Tifa in Cissnei's house is really good. I love Cloud acknowleging the weirdness about his memories, and his reasoning for what he thinks is wrong with him isnt a bad idea, being SOLDIER cell degredation.
The irony is, according to Crisis Core Reunion, that Cloud does not have G Cells after his experimentation. G Cells are the ones that cause cellular degradation in soldiers. Cloud is one of the only few who has pure S cells and this is why Hollander was after Cloud in CCR because he knew that getting this sample would stop the degradation in others.
The coversation with Barret pretty much confirms Jessie was going to drug Cloud with her pizza! 😂

Cloud / Sephiroth and Tifa at the reactor + that conversation at Gongaga about how Cloud is feeling is probably my favorite part in the whole game. Incredible.
I know it’s been said a million times, but the voice cast went above and beyond. Tifa’s especially.
In 1:47:36 when Aertih wispers to Tifa in the Spanish version the do caption the lips as "Sigue Asi" that means "keep it up" meaning that Aerith is actually motivating Tifa to hit on Cloud
Yeah, the more I went into this, the more I like she just wanted to be besties with him and nothing else. The playful teasing is little more than that. They thankfully toned down a lot of the forced love triangle from both Remake and the OG.
It would just be odd otherwise for this girl to constantly be flirting and then play hardcore wingman for a different girl. I'm not gonna say the "C word" nor any potential desire she would have to participate in that lifestyle, but it would send the weirdest of mixed signals.

@@juliogomesdesouza9035 Yeah, I get that. Probably a case of me seeing what I want to see, but I feel that a man and a woman can be that intimate without it having to be romantic in some cases. I don't wanna say sibling like bond, but it is something deep like that; like they're driven by the severity of the plot and not by emotions, if that makes any sense.
With Aerith I get the feeling that she actually totally would go that far with Cloud if Tifa wasn't around, but she checks herself because of that. In a more tradtional RPG, Aerith would basically be the only option, but they basically split it in FF7. Hard to say when there's a dissonance between what the plot says and what the player is allowed to choose. Even Max said earilier, "Tifa best girl, but Aerith for plot."
I'm not one of those, "tHe CaNoN mUsT bE pReSeRvEd!" types or nothing, but I do tend to hate the power fantasy of playing coy with a bunch of women, *specifically* when one of them is the "correct" choice. Otherwise it's fine when the game caters to the multiple choice set up.
I dunno, Aerith has always felt like a character that, even in the OG became increasing aware of the fate that awaited her. As a result, she was just fast tracking moments of companionship on various levels before the end. With Cloud, it was more to fill the hole Zack left, but she knew it wasn't going to last and was just enjoying life while she could. Tifa, being kind of a door mat at times, never really stands in her way.
All that bullshit aside, if anyone else wants to read it as Cloud and Aerith are in love, I completely understand that and see why.
@@ClydeJHatbird Yeah, I see as well. But I don't disagree with what you said, friendships can be very intimate, I just wish if that was the case for the devs to not give conflicting signs about it and just take the platonic route.
I just love how they improved characters this time. They made everyone better but you really feel that age gap of yuffie being way younger than the rest in how goofy she can get.

@@tdspkhype3042 White ghosts aren't controlled by Aerith, they are controlled by the planet. The planet wanted Aerith to help Cloud beat Sephiroth at the end of Rebirth, just like how the planet wanted to help Tifa get back to Cloud so that she can save him from Sephiroth's control.

No they are controlled by Aerith, that’s why she can manipulate the timelines and why ghosts were helping Tifa and Cloud. Also it explains why Sephiroth got annoyed and for first time not smiled and said “I underestimated you” to Aerith.
@@tdspkhype3042 Sephy said that to her because he didn't expect her to trade the empty materia with the white materia with Cloud, not because she took control of the white whispers, which she didn't do. They said as much after the Gongaga reactor, the white whispers are the planet's, not Aerith's. That didn't change at any point in Rebirth.

That was an assumption from Tifa not a fact because it was proven that they knew nothing of what is going on in other timelines. And Sephiroth doesn’t know till now that She changed the white materia, he said underestimated her because her powers are the opposite of his where he is trying to manipulate other timelines and she is doing the reverse to save others. It was even proven that she’s the one saving Zack so that he can save Cloud. He even tells Cloud to save Aerith after supposedly she’s gone. But she comes back because she came to help Cloud using white ghosts after taking control of them. That’s literally the twist of the game lol

Cloud mimicking Sephiroth's moves as he brutalised those Shinra soldiers had my jaw on the floor.
The big scene with Tifa & the Weapon makes me think about what Strippin talked about years ago with Max, the Materia White & Materia Black books that were Japan only releases, talked about how Sephiroth was basically too edgy ro merge with the lifestream so he infected the spirits of those who remembered him, to find himself again.

If you checked out the Remake Lore Podcasts that Max appeared in some time after the game's release, they reference those chapters regarding theories.

Tifa has always been the biggest threat when it comes to Sephiroth's grip on Cloud, Tifa is the one who frees Cloud and helps him rebuild himself. Without her, Cloud goes off the deep end, with her he defeats Sephiroth 👍🏻.

@@tdspkhype3042you are obsessed with things that are quite obvious for all they care they could have left Tifa as a complete side character yet most of the new scenes are designed around her storytelling wise back then it never made any sense how Sephiroth ignored Tifa completely neither does the fact that she never questions the nibelheim incident even though rebirth does fuck up some things like the ending but they definitely cooked with making Tifa more present

The remixed version of the Whisper theme in the reactor is legitimately amazing. I love it so much. Actually the entire Gongaga storyline and reactor scene was A-MAZ-ING.
That attack of the Weapon theme was so cool it doesn't get enough love in the original ost. I'm going to lose it in part 3 when we get the full on version during the Junon rescue mission.

Max’s TH-cam videos is me finding a spoiler free zone to recap and relate to the parts of the game I just played.
I just fully completed the game last night and I'm in such awe. The devs did such a great job on Rebirth. All of emotions I felt throughout the day today feel so raw and real. I'm not ashamed to say I'm a grown ass man and I got teary-eyed in several spots of the journey. This maybe one of the greatest games I've ever played.
Oh i was a pool of tears dude. It's the best game I have ever played. I am so looking forward to part 3

I think they've done a good job staying true to OG FF7 but changed it enough to give the story more depth and want me coming back for me.

@wh1tew0lfalpha It starts with the Nibelheim flashback and ends at the Forgotten Capital. (Esentially end of disk 2 on the OG). From start to finish it took me close to 100 hours of gameplay but it never felt like I was grinding just to grind. There is so much exploring and side quests you can do. If you want to skip the side quests I think you can get through the main story in 50-60 hours. I didn't do every side quest but I did large the majority of them (especially the "job postings" with the green exclamation mark). In my opinion the "job postings" add valueable depth and additional context to the main story, so I encourage everyone to do all if not most.
If only Cissnei could join the party

The crazy thing about Cloud at Zack's house and Zack's parents asking if he knew Zack is that Yuffie is sitting in the other room the entire time and ABSOLUTELY knows Zack well and not any of the other 3 in the house have any idea.
Yuffie doesn't want to talk about Zack. Especially with the whole her mom dying and stuff. It a miss opportunity tho.

The lifestream scene was so unexpected and some of the coolest shit right after Cloud being terrifying and awesome.
Tifa getting to experience and confront her past. Then seeing the purpose of the new weapons. THEN SEPHIROTH OH MY GOD! The sheer CINEMA of him fighting against that weapon was amazing.
Oh yeah and the music was god tier as always.
EDIT: 1:29:33 Holy Shit I just realized Sephiroth actually directly smirks at Tifa after he convinces Cloud she’s a fake. The details are *SO GOOD*

@@TheBlueFalconX I wonder if it’s the fact the skin was tougher than expected. When he switched tactics it *ripped* through the weapon easily. I also wonder if Sephiroth having his body back will change things in the battle within the lifestream.

Tifa is so adorable in this game, tough competition but she might be my favorite character in the cast. I lost my sht when she fell into the Lifestream, Cloud better apologize for that one.

Remake/Rebirth Tifa is one of the best characters in a J-RPG ever.
Cloud has nothing to apologize about, and she knows it. It was 100% Sephiroth. No ifs, ands, or buts can change that. 😂
Yuffie is the BEST juvenile goofball ever. They really nailed making her character fill a niche in the team where I can't imagine things without her now.
She gives so much levity when otherwise the characters (besides Aerith) are all so serious
I love what they did with Yuffie. Honestly, I would not be surprised if new players, that don't know the original, actually consider her their favorite character.
Also the way Barret constantly pushes her away is hilarious
She manages to be just the right amount of annoying, not too much or too little.
The Weapons are a lot like the Sandworms from Dune. They’re ancient, near unstoppable, and they will devour anyone or anything that threatens their planet.
Plenty of characters fit that description, like the Monsterverse version of Godzilla or Zygarde from pokemon

Nomura must have been so happy to have the opportunity to give Tifa more depth and more spotlight. That cutscene is so important for what's to come. Of cours Tifa has always been important, but now more than ever.
God I love this game, man! And to see Max's reactions to it.
And I think that is what's making the Remake series so good. I love the OG as much as the next person, but these games give more depth to the characters. Biggs, Wedge and Jessie were seemingly just a trio that was just there for the sake of it, and yet Remake made me love them even more. Hell, Yuffie is even getting more care and development than ever before, and she was just a common thief that barely served a purpose in the OG. The games may have their flaws, and not everyone may like them, but you can't deny the growth and development we see from these already well loved characters.

out of everything in the FFVII story, new and old, the scene with Zack’s parents is probably the most brutal for me
from them just never knowing what happened to him to Aerith choosing to stonewall them; god it’s so heartbreaking
alternatively i love how brilliantly they’ve fleshed out every aspect of the story and characters; cannot wait to see what they do in pt. 3, whether it’s unhinged or tame

Feels like something you could implement in the 3rd game. Tales games usually have that feature now.
Or spend the limit gauge for a swap. Or the synergy stacks or something like that. High investment high reward. I would also like to have more party presets to cycle trough so i don have to go in the menu every time i want to shwitch characters around. That's probably my only complaint of the game. And some bad minigames.

I think that Tifa in the lifestream sequence is my favorite scene in the Remake series yet. Replacing the Aerith "dream" in Remake in case anyone is wondering. I only just got to Cosmo Canyon though. Actually Goganga is probably my favorite section of the game yet. Definitely not on the bingo card coming in lol.

The most insane part of the game, where more than enjoying what I was seeing, I was enjoying the idea of seeing Max get to this point and witnessing the reaction. Things are gonna get wild.
You know, this is probably one of the best scenes in the Remake trilogy. In the OG, the Weapons were the big "OH SHIT!" and "WTF?!" moment and while powerful, they always seemed like big giant monsters of mass destruction than "Guardians of the Planet" and it was fiiiineee but this right here? It blows it out of the water (or mako pool in this case).
While mostly looking like giant fish, there's something poetic of them swimming through the Lifestream and the way they act (as little as we saw of them so far) gives this kind of sense of awe, combined with the music and *fighting* freaking Sephiroth? This is just class.
For me it was like I was witnessing a cosmic event and I'm pretty sure Tifa felt like that too, like you got a small glimpse behind the inner working of the planet and... well, I find it beautiful.

I bet they make it so that Tifa intentionally brings Cloud into the Lifestream with her in Part 3 to help him remember, since she was able to sort through here memories there.
I thought that too! There have been fan theories that the lifestream scene might not happen for various reasons, but this scene with Tifa sets it up for part 3.
Love how Max painstakingly looks at posters, listens to NPC conversations and explores nucks/crannies of towns, but then misses entire sections in dungeons and ignores purple chests. Such selective attention haha

I read lifesteam white and black... its not spoilers at all imo. It's just a take of sephiroth and aeriths perspective. It feels like remake trilogy is going a slightly different direction.

I just finished rebirth today and my hype level for the 3rd game couldn't possibly be higher. Once this trilogy finishes it will go down as probably the greatest trilogy in video game history. And i would argue maybe the best story.

Well in the lore I believe Ruby, Emerald, Diamond, Ultima, and Omega Weapons are all enhanced weapons for the sake of essentially rebooting the planet. Essentially wiping out all life and allowing the planet to absorb all the life energy to heal and start over. That's why they are considered a threat. I think the Weapons we've seen in this game are just the "generic" weapons who's purpose is to protect the lifestream.

The one cait sith weapon in gongaga village should be more visible. I missed it the first time going in the river, not knowing it was actually there.
Traveling through gongaga was more like a puzzle, it was a bit annoying cause of the change of pace but after I figured it out and got the waypoints it was no longer annoying. Really petty but it was how my brain responded.
Lol I missed the love potion ingredients mentioned by Jessie to cloud in remake and then being explained as ingredients for a love potion to cloud by Barrett - but thankfully another TH-cam comment brought it to my attention
