I lost it when Barret went off the rails about Marlene in the middle of the escort the dog Junon quest, and Cloud told him to get his shit together. It was such a hilariously real scene.

I'm now at chapter 6 and i feel like the story has not been progressed in the slightest. I love the game but the story is just going from town to town without anything really big happening. And no spoilers pls because i havent played the og but i would like to know what you like so much storywise until chapter 6 and if it getd better after this?
I'm currently at North Corel at about 34 hours playtime, done basically everything up to this point (100% every area etc) and it's been absolutely magical. The stuff they do with these character makes me love them even more, and just like Remake Barret is the standout.
I just got out of Costa del sol myself and just started all of the extra stuff in Corel I've also 100% everything so far and am at 29 hours everything is so incredible can't wait to see more

I’m 68 hours in and only 64% of the main story is done, I truly believe that this is one of the greatest games that I’ve ever played. Personally, FF7 Rebirth is an all-timer for me, the world keeps getting more & more magical. The OST is also legendary. *yes I took a vacation and have been grinding the game 😂

It’s magical. There was a part in Chapter 10 where that’s the only word I could think of. This game is magical. Feeling things I’ve never felt from a video game.
Its up there with kh2 as my favorite game ever man.
I was 9 when the original was released in 97. I now have an 8 year old son who is getting to experience this with me, and seeing the excitement in his eyes while we play together brings back memories that I thought were long forgotten. Thank you to everyone that had a hand in this and for giving my son and I these memories.

My sons are 10 and taking their first playthrough of the game. Watching their play styles is something else. One likes to play the story and take his time and strategize, the other wants to DMC full combo. It’s nuts
The OST is so sick, the bow wow tickled me so much I didn't even realize I was doing an escort quest
during this quest they made us run across the whole region but i got so into the music i didn’t even notice LOL

@@Mauvias92 He is on Chapter 8 now on twitch and beats every QB match. Many starts off rough like Max did, and that's normal, but he's definitely got it now and much better. People above hating like usual.
the ff7 remake team should be proud of what they've done - the expectations for this game were otherworldly and they somehow managed to achieve them and more

Star Ocean Second Story got a Remake too like few months ago. It was so well done, right up there with rebirth.

Im really happy that the command menu exists ngl. Im watching Max play and have no idea how he manages to remember all these buttons for every action. I never use the shortcuts unless I have to for synchro moves (those still confuse me sometimes). Being able to pause time and just think for a moment about what I want to do is SO NICE. The way my combat gameplay is completly different from Max's and it still works just as well, just shows how great of a system it really is.
I finished Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth just in time to jump over to FF7 Rebirth. I thought Infinite Wealth was gonna be game of the year. Hawaii was an amazing place to explore, and the characters they introduced in that game quickly became my favorites of the series. The amount of things to do is staggering. Full stand alone games in it, as optional side content. 9 out of 10. (There were a few small things that kept it from being perfect if you are fair.)
Then I hopped on FF7 Rebirth, and yow. I have to do... EVERYTHING. I have to take screen shots galore (I NEVER take screen shots.), I'm trying not to say anything specific, but there are some specific plot points, and twists that I cannot praise highly enough. Even if FF7 didn't already have a special place in my heart, Rebirth would be worthy of a 10 out of 10, but then you pop on the nostalgia, and this game turns into an experience that I cannot get anywhere else.
Yeah, me too, I never take photos or screenshots 😂. But in this game sometimes I do, outiside of having to.
9.2/10 Simply is wrong. It's an easy 20/10. Because it's better than other 10/10 games.

Playing Rebirth reminds me of playing Kingdom Hearts 2 for the first time. Great combat, interesting characters, a few callbacks to the prequel, somewhat confusing story beats, but very fun mini games and challenges to give the world they created feel alive.
My experience playing KH2 for the first time left an everlasting impression on me and I wish I could experience that again, but I’m getting that feeling from this game all the samw
This the comparison that I keep coming back to, I think that it's my favourite Sqeenix game since KH2. Would love to have a more in depth party automation option that doesn't use materia slots in the 3rd.
@@Meakachuyeah, something like how they do in the Tales of Series where you can have a general behavior for party members, like “focus on defense” or “target enemy with lowest HP”
But at the same time, I think SE wants us to constantly switch between characters to still give it that turn based RPG feel like we influence every battle decision.
@@Capothekid Yeh for sure, they're going for something different, which definitely works. I find myself only really switching characters on a battle to battle basis or every hour or so of playing just to keep it fresh but I think that is just personal preference. I've found it useful to switch the party member control to the shortcuts rather than the menu, that's kept it more action focused.
I wonder if he found the jazz band in the junon area that was playing a jazz ensemble version of the bombing mission, that song goes on for like 10 minutes and it's got a brass ensemble, guitar, piano, drum solos, I literally stood there and just listened to it for a good while and could not tell when it looped lol. The music is amazing in this
I still watch Max's reaction to remake every now and again to remind myself how amazing and touching this franchise is to other people ❤️

The ship scene and Reds moment is what solidified this being a GOTY and a true homage to OG players of FF7. Taking one little detail from OG FF7, modernizing it and making it a set piece reward if you do the extra content.

I’m astounded. Every time you think the game has shown you everything, it goes ahead and opens up again. As a huge OG fan, I feel unbelievably satisfied in what they’ve done here. I’m 80 hours in at 79% 100 precenting where we can. I’m in love. Masterpiece
The sky box is a big difference between the two that I noticed. In remake going up from the slums to Shinra had such a pretty sky box, but it didn't actually show the slums, just a generic image if slums. But last night going through cosmo canyon you can see the actual environment underneath. Beautifully done!

I’ve been waiting on a legit next gen open world FF game for a minute and we finally got it from Square…yet it’s wrapped in the skin of our beloved FF7. Masterpiece.
the best part is, its not "true open world", but segmented open world. kinda like the older AC games. which to me, works better.

I'm all for exploration, but it falls under the usual open world traps of quantity over quality. A lot of pointless busywork that just eats your time instead of being genuinely entertaining. FF7 gains nothing from it, hell they had to rip the OG into three pieces so they could do that, when they could have cut out a bunch of boring garbage and made an actual complete game. It's pathetic to have to split a game from 1997 into 3 in 2024. They could have done that but splitting it into 3 means more money, and they're now just about that instead of quality art so obviously they're going to go with the 3 poorer quality games if it means three times as much money.

My one main gripe as of hitting Costa Del Sol is im seeing a small amount if the side quests sumply be tied into the tower exploration stuff. My only gripe.
Overall, just hit Vhapter 9 and i have thus feeling of being overwhelmed. Its not in a bad way, mind you, but all the big sets you see, the grandiose story, developing characters qnd their relations, the upgrades combat. It mak s me feel like i need to optimize my time to properly see everything. For me, thats a great sogn that im hooked, a la Elden Ring. Its been a fantastic week experience. My two close-to-tiers moment were hearing the Lifestream track when finding the mako stones and watching Cloud and Tofa devope towards one another and just listening to them talk. What a magical game

I'm about half way through as well...I will say this game/series has the greatest music I have ever heard in a video game in my 35+ years of playing them. Second to that is the characters and dialogue...they have perfected these characters to the point where I find complete joy in every single interaction/banter between them, nor matter how small. This game is a masterpiece.
My biggest worry coming into rebirth was that they FOR SURE couldn't keep up the great characters and how they interact like in remake, god damn I was so wrong and I'm so glad.. These writers know ff7 like the back of their hands and it's great

Nobuo Uematsu is regarded as one of the greatest composers of modern times, he kinda transcended video games. So now you have people refining his works and extending them into different tracks, etc. So yea, music is insanely good and next level.
FF7 has some of the best alongside classic Zelda. I would mention that you should try the Octopath Traveller series. Its composer imo inherited the will of the great masters. He even shares the ‘Yasunori’ name. It’s the best modern rpg music to me hands down.

I think I just hit chapter 5, I'm already over 40 hours in, Junon and Grasslands are 100% complete, and I can't stop thinking about diving back into the world while being responsible and actually getting my work week done lol. The nostalgia is hitting WAY harder than I thought it would, all while providing new memories/experiences, which is all accompanied by an amazingly orchestrated soundtrack. Game of the year, period.

I wanted them to go ham expanding the world and characters and they exceeded what I was hoping for. We'd never have got this if it was a single game.
64% done with the main story after 72 hours, and this game has been a life altering experience. I cannot believe how good it is. Consistently amazing game. I honesty cannot believe this game exists.
This also has nothing to do with nostalgia for me personally. I didn't even play original FF7 until after Remake. Rebirth is just that game. It's so good in fact that I wouldn't even be mad if people skipped Remake just to play this.
I played and loved the OG FF7 almost as much as Max loves it. Hot Take: I got bored of Remake and quit mid way through. Never finished it...
Fast Forward to Rebirth. I am 28+ hours in after 2 1/2 days. Rebirth is shaping up to be the best videogame I have ever played/heard/seen, etc...
Stupid question, but do you know much you've completed? Does it tell you the percentage somewhere? I'm only 5 hours in and still am on Grasslands
@@scurbbb on ps5 on the bottom right corner of the game when you're on the ps5 home menu there'll be a small flag with the percentage next to it which indicates completion or story completion, not sure which one it is, think it's story, but that's how people can tell usually
@@scurbbb When you're on the game at the PS5 home menu, there's a little percentage counter at the bottom right alongside hours played. That percentage tells you how much of the story you have completed in the game.

I unfortunately have not been able to tune in live because I wanted to preserve my own play through, and I haven’t even been able to start the game yet.
Max, it comes as no surprise to me that you’ve managed to further infect me with your enthusiasm for all things FF7.
You’ve managed to help me discover a love for the franchise(FF7) that can only be compared to my equally as influenced resurgence of love for the FGC that you brought upon more than 10 years ago.
I can’t wait to play this game and can’t wait to tune into your VODs to watch the play through. Thanks for this mid-game review.

Took me 75 hours to complete all initial world intel, all QB, and all side quests except 2. This game is a fucking beast. Still gotta do all combat trials
7 hours in and still discovering new stuff in the grasslands. I love the games design and the combat is the best parts of remake amplified. More moves and abilities and I love that the og cast retained some of their moves from remake (triple slash and sorcerous storm ❤️)

So far I really like it and love the variety. I can see the passion in every part of the games development. 4 years to bring out, I can totally see why, my jaw is constantly dropping that they pulled this off and just how beautiful it is.

I’m a massive FF fan. 52 year old Gen X here. I have to admit, story lines were not always my favourite aspect for FF series. Sometimes the dialogue can be a bit over the top corny which can be cool… but on occasion… I would have the need to skip through some of the more lacklustre conversations. This game??!! I have watched every single cut scene in its entirety and thoroughly enjoyed it. I even found myself either laughing my ass off or deeply engrossed with the endearing writing and voice acting. I’m 25 hours in and obsessed!! Excellent job to all those involved with the making of this game. They’ve outdone themselves!
This gives me hope as a 40 year old who doesn't ever want to get bored of gaming!
Ff7 story is great. I’m a big ff fan ff7 being my fav, the only thing rebirth has is graphics. Rebirth feels like a reskin of kingdom hearts

@@timkerkemeiker9791 well you get a lot of story at the very start of the game and then once you reach the grasslands it’s a lot of character development and subtle story subtext, which if you’ve never played the OG you may not pick up on. It will pick up in the next few chapters with bigger story beats don’t worry 😉
My top 5 is notoriously difficult to penetrate tbh, (Okami, Shenmue, 3rd strike etc)..... and Max, I wholly agree with you. This is my favourite game ever. Not just in the way it keeps delivering, and the quality thereof. It's just the way they've entirely captured the essence and realised it beyond my imagination ever could've fathomed. It's a product that's been so meticulously loved by it's creators.
Everything is interesting or fun, hugely interactive and even the stuff that you know won't progress anything really still feels meaningful. Mastered the art of making the player ask "what was I doing again?" haha.... I also love that it knows how good it is. The vista's in cosmo has raw flex in there and im totally here for it. Honestly can't sing the praises of this enough. It's 93 on meta at the moment and I think that's low tbh
It's more than a masterclass, i feel this is once in a generation level of cohesive nostaligic quality, it's just simply excellent.

Having gone though a good chunk of it, I will say this one feels like such a strong set-up for how much of a hit the finale is going to be, I say that because Part 1 felt like it’s goal was creating the bones of what the game will be so while it was limited the quality was so high to make sure they can build off of it, and now it gives that feeling of trying to setup the bones of an open world and doing it at such a high quality so it could all pay off in the last entry, cause now seeing the world and how great the gameplay is I know they will do everything in Part 3 to heighten the experience with the moment to moment gameplay since all the actual setup has been done, one key example is the start of the second act for Part 3 is going to be the diamond weapon chapter and given how they have this giant open world that has been already made they can now use it to make the experience that much more dynamic, I am genuinely expecting the diamond weapon chapter to probably be the first thing they show when they reveal part 3
Same principle the new Zelda, the open world is done, the core gameplay is done, now they have the freedom to add as much as they want while having such a strong foundation
The world is not totally done. I assume Part 3 is going to have a bigger world map. Especially the eastern continent, Wutai, etc.
Wutai is going to be huge, It's landmass in OG is more than double some of the areas we've been to in Rebirth. Icicle area also has a large explorable area in OG finding Alexander took quite a lot of work.
Well hopefully it's a PS6 release title on a very polished (fingers crossed) UE5. It better not release on the PS5 or it'll be gimped like remake was.
@@syed2694if it’s PS6 then expect a long development time as they need to wait until they get the development kit from Sony first. They have already been working in the script and I would expect development on the PS5 version to begin shortly after.
My expectation is that it will release towards the end of the PS5 with a 4 year development goal lifecycle but perhaps also on the PS6. There should be no problem with “gimping” as we’ve seen what’s capable from HZFW. The console can manage high performance and graphics.
The real question is if they use unreal engine 4 again (it will definitely release on PS5 then) or switch to UE5 (release on PS6) which would require new training and recruiting which takes more time.
i think they will do with part 3, the same they did with part 2, take things from the game before, so they can build the world better and faster.
for example, there's no reason to redesign many of the cities for part 3, but they could change the npcs, and add stuff to them.
and because it will be the same engine, that gives them space to expand the game.
but yeah, i wouldnt put past them, to make the third game be 200gigs, and 3 discs... which would be hilarious on a meta sense.
The thing I noticed while playing was it just kept getting better, and better and then you think it’s going to calm down somewhat and boom, here’s another amazing thing. Absolutely phenomenal game.
Same, I was about to leave under Junon and had the thought "I don't think I've had a single npc interaction or quest that wasn't delightful, surely this can't keep up." And then I rounded up my troops, was called a mophead, won a military parade, danced with my biker boyfriend, got on a cruise ship with some fabulous old friends, beat em in QB and then had my beach episode. Now I'm just crossing my fingers that I can finish it before my console bites it (overheating)
I was tearing up too when I heard the Jenova emergent track too, it's incredible
The music is so good. The amount of variations they have of Main Theme alone keeps it so fresh.

sounds like a good design choice.
one of those things that bothered me was dealing with missables. gave me a bit of stress having to keep an eye on them
@@Clavitz1 this is something people forget about in the older games, they were litered with missable stuff. im just replaying ff8, and there's an npc that will give me something nice later, but for him to do it, i need to not go to the place the story wants me to, go somewhere else, do alot of exoteric things, come back to the city i was before, so he shows up, and pick the right answers, so then i can go and continue with the story.
and unfortunatelly, this isnt a ff8 issue alone, lots of jrpgs has this issues, with lots of places being 1 visit only.
hell i remember my first time playing ff8 and being a few hours in, only to discover that i had missed a couple of GFs, and the pain of having to restart.

sounds like they've made so much side content that the game will either too easy if you do it all of it or too hard if not enough. Either way they'll want you to sink time into boring ass chores when I'm trying to enjoy the freaking game. FF7 OG had a perfectly fine amount of side quests and all the rewards were worth it, far better than LOADS of tedious sidequests with lame rewards. Quality over quantity.
@Vaquix000 Dynamic difficulty deals with the leveling aspect. None of the side quests are boring or tedious, and they all add value to the story as well as increase character development. They make the world seem much more personal. Despite that if you want to blitz through the main story with barely any side quests you can do that. No idea why you're all over comment sections criticizing the game with baseless points.
I'm currently in the Golden Saucer and I have yet to find a single sidequest or mini-game along the way that I didn't at least somewhat enjoy.
I had been fairly critical of post-FF10 Square (FF14 ARR aside) until Remake came out and they kind of won me back over. But, holy shit, Rebirth is an absolute triumph and is 100% living up to the hype.

For me the horrible frog hopping and the CC mini game in Junon are shitty. But the rests is stellar so far
I liked frog jumping but it gives no rewards really and totally optional. to compltete the quest 1 try will be enough the rest is your choice so it is executed well. I like Queens cards game but some people hate it and it is part of the story so some are pissed off. The same was for FF9, you had to play it as part of the story. I dont know is it good or bad thing...

I just opened up the Corel Region, and so far my least favorite is the Run Wild minigame, not just because I suck at it, but because Red's collar is tied to beating it in first place.
For the first time in my life, I had massive expectations for a release and they somehow exceeded them all at pretty much every turn.
I just finished barrets chunk at the golden saucer, and so far, I've just been in a state of continuous awe.
I liked remake, but it really dragged out some sections to raise the playtime and didn't really expand upon the midgar section in any meaningful way.
Rebirth, on the other hand, is immaculately paced. Every area lasts just long enough to not get boring and feels super distinct Visually. The sidequests are fun and have great writing for the main characters and don't feel like a drag at all.
I also quite like a lot of the changes. I won't talk about much, but the stuff they do with yuffie is just outright better than the original, I can't believe how much she adds to the party dynamic.
I have no idea what's coming, and there's also a whole other game that is adapting my favourite parts of ff7. I'm so happy with this game.

@@lottcrosby666346 hours in, I would say this: is a masterpiece and a great way to move forward the franchise and I say this as not a fan of remake but I am genuinely loving Rebirth and the gameplay loop (I took forever to finish remake because of how uninterested I was in the gameplay loop and on my view some very weird padding), but here I am just having fun constantly and is great (between great minigames and amazing unexpected moments).

@9:50 I'm at 92 hours into the game and still have 2 chapters left. I also just unlocked the "tiny boat bronco" and was immediately met with the option to go and explore new areas AND revisit previously explored areas. I've got another 20 to 30 hours left, with everything that just opened up + the last 2 chapters....so that 100 to 150 hour presumptive playtime is very broad but it's within the actual range of what to expect for total playtime.
I was amazed by all the exploration in the tiny bronco! Loved loved loved it!

Final fantasy, one of the greatest JRPG series to ever be released, loved watching max play FF7R and now this.
Very sad news though and remembrance to another hero who helped define the JRPG world, Akira Toriyama. Dragon Quest and Chrono Trigger (collaboration of Akira Toriyama, Hironobu Sakaguchi and Yuji Horii) helped bring Joy to many peoples lives.

I loved the midgar section of the original game but always wished it was longer and I could explore it more. The high technology with slums. Shinra company. Hojo and the experiments. The main tower.
That’s what I remember most and it was so iconic that the front cover of the cd case. I enjoyed the open world , too, but midgar was such a cool city.
I’ve just started remake and it’s a joy to see it look so good. Though, I’m not going to get the exploration I wanted, it seems.
I was disappointed we never got to explore the actual city of midgar and not just the slums. We get CGI of it and it looked interesting.

I think part of what makes doing the side stuff so fun still is the writing quality. You get lore, charming character moments, emotional storytelling, and just genuinely funny stuff. The world is vibrant in every sense of the word.

I played the original when I was 16 at release and it became really important to me loved it ever since. I feel genuinely lucky to be playing this, something very special about being there in 1997 and here now with Rebirth. It’s incredible.
I agree about remake, it really didn't have much exploration. I think SE could have added a couple of Optional Chapters.
They could have delayed the reactor 5 bombing and helped some of the other sector slums in Midgar like opening up Sector 4 and 8.
1. They could have had more Avalanche references perhaps some to Before Crisis even. In those slums they could have had a few story driven quests with 3-5 optional side quests in each sector with a fairly difficult boss.
2. They could have allowed the player to recruit Jessie, Biggs, or Wedge in a commandable non playable guest party member like Sonon. Given them each some basic moves with 2 strong moves and 1 limit break each
3. The last part they could have added was a trip to the plate with a more story light-hearted story elements that require decisions and based on those choices would dictate another outfit for Tifa, Cloud, and Barret.
Im 20H in right now and I have only 2 bad things to say so far :
- In performance mode, sometimes the game look really bad with horrible texture and blurry effects due to AI upscale
- It's great that made those big open world areas, but oh my god they are empty, there is literally no point exploring it unless for side quests, no chests, no materias, nothing
Man I felt that, it does feel like youre dreaming, it feels like christmas morning when you are 12 years old. This is def in top 5 GOAT games for me, im about 50 hours in and still no idea whats going on with the story, which is a good thing. Its going to be crazy when we see wtf is actually going on. Dude when I first stepped into the golden saucer and when I first saw the haunted hotel, mega chills. Really the whole game is like that. This game leaves me wanting for nothing, its exactly what I was hoping for and was 100% worth the wait.
I got a tattoo of cloud on my arm after I had played remake. Beacouse I was blown away. I got a PlayStation and ff7 as a Christmas gift when I was 8years old. And to be able to experience a remake was huge. Then THIS came out and thought that I was sent to heaven ❤️

I'm 48hrs in and finishing up Coral region, like the new gold saucer games/levels/difficulties and the last one or two side quests in the area. So far, I love the game but it does have some major faults IMO. I have to say Chadley just gets in my nerves sooooo bad. He simply doesn't fit if you ask me. The amount of comedic relief has also brought it down a bit for me. Sometimes I just wish it was a bit more serious as, so far, it's been in the sillier side more than the serious side. I have to say, the whole Coral region has been a blast. I was legit thinking the game was just a step above mediocre for much of it but now that has totally changed. The most enjoyable thing for me is that I can stop somewhere, look around, and my mind is flooded with memories amd the feelings I felt when I explored the same places in the OG game. I still find myself thinking, "I can't believe I'm actually here again"

For me, Remake and Rebirth have one of my favourites Action RPG combat systems ever. I loved it so much that I even made a Tifa cosplay in Nioh 2 using the fists weapon, just for how cool her playstyle is 😂

The combat in this game might be some of the most satisfying combat I've played ever.
It's beyond what I ever imagined. The love poured into this is astounding and I appreciate the devs. It's already a perfect game but then the nostalgia elevates it to something else entirely. Pure joy
Games a total masterpiece. This game proves you can make a FF game in the mould of the old PS1 era games. With the open world, the combat and character building and land traversal. This shoulda been what they did after FF9 to bring the series forward. I hated the lack of freedom and the lack of open world and the linear maps of FFX, XIII -XVI. This is what the original game was to me when i played it in 97. This is what i saw in my head and now its here. Im 46% and 56 hours in and im in awe. This game gets better and better each area and I cant even imagine what Gold Saucer is gonna be like. Im in Corel Mts right now.
Part 3 is gonna be INSANE. especially when you get the Highwind!

The terrible gameplay and bloated story aspects are nothing like the old games. Just cause you have a semi open world with Ubisoft map markers doesn’t make it like the original game in the slightest. Everything about these remakes is done with the hope of keeping a kid’s attention by constantly jingling keys in front of them. It’s persistently annoying at best and embarrassing at worst. But hey at least Tifa looks good in that swimsuit.
They can't make a game as good as FF7 because most of the original team is gone. That's why the story is trash in the remake and rebirth. Anything good about it is good because the OG made it good. They can't think of a game like that now, they don't have the people for it. They have a lot more people, but the wrong people. It's all about having the right artistic minds and they don't. Look at how they ruined sephiroth for example, he's an annoying edgelord popping in to either insult you or try to say something mysterious which ends up just sounding idiotic, he comes off as a tryhard which is nothing like the OG made him out to be when he introduced him. You even beat him in a fight in MIDGAR... that is pathetic. It's clearly just to please fanboys who want a sephiroth battle instead of making sure they have a threatening villain. Beating the villain in the first game of a trilogy is NOT the way to make him seem like a threat. Obviously.
Sure, it has some of the OG's old charm at some points, but when your main threat in an rpg seems like a wussy edgelord.... what is there to look forward to? Why do I care about a climax with that guy, how could I possibly be pumped to beat someone who is idiotic who I beat multiple times? Seems like people look past that because "CHILDHOOD", I'm so sick of that. That's why we get so many video game remakes and sequels and movie remakes and sequels instead of cool fresh ideas because you people that can't let go of your damn "things were simpler when I was a kid" crap, you just buy what you're already familiar with. Hollywood and game designers are always blamed for it but honestly the consumers are to blame.
FF7 OG was great. I didn't ask for a remake but was happy that new players might get to see it again in a new form. This isn't it again in a new form: this is it torn apart into three, filling the parts with bloated filler, and then rewriting the story to be idiotic. It's a shame.

I feel a big part of what makes this game so good too is the teams creative control now that the fact that it’s not really a “remake” is well known so they’re less tethered to the og in a lot of cases.

Nah bro, this game is…ironically…way more accurate to the source material than Remake was. This is the game I wanted Remake to be until I realized that game was just the tutorial area. The real meat is this game and they did a phenomenal job expanding the game, Ubisoft open world aside

@@benakinnusi2518 imo all the parts that were in the original are phenomenally done and everything that wasn’t is awful. Remake has a lot more of the stuff that wasn’t in the original due to padding the run time with sewer levels and train graveyards and making the simple act of walking from one set piece from the original to another take 5 hours instead of 10-20 minutes. There was some good stuff added in remake, like the cute chapter with Jessie’s mom. But overall, the padding was awful.
Rebirth is a lot different in that regard. It’s adapting a much greater number of events from the game, so most of the big moments get a real glow up. The extra dungeons are just expanded dungeons from the original. But it also suffers from the same problem that Remake does. It’s not a straight forward remake of FF7, it has some convoluted mess going on with a multiverse story. And *that* subplot is an active blight on the overarching story.
In both games, that aspect doesn’t have too great of an effect on the story until the final chapters, so you’re getting a very faithful remake that’s easy to recommend. But…the endings to both games are awful. And not just a little bad…the 3rd game is going to be their last chance to fix this weird ass subplot that they created and honestly…I don’t think they can. But still, given the current track record for the trilogy, the finale will be 80-90% great and the other part will make you want to pull your hair out
Still, on the merit of the 95% of Rebirth and 60% of Remake that are honestly great…it’s looking like a pretty great trilogy. And by that I mean Rebirth is really good and I hate Remake and part 3 is not leaving me optimistic after how badly they fucked up with that subplot in Rebirth

I love FFXVI but what I don't like about it are the side quests. Funnily enough in Rebirth, the side quests shines. Loving it so far, especially the mini games like Queen's Blood.
FF16 is a masterpiece If you skip every side quest…. The side quests were so boring, so pointless, and literally didn’t add anything worthwhile…. The weapon upgrades weren’t anything special, the world building wasn’t fun and I felt wasn’t worth a 20+ minute fetch quest each time…. But the main story was phenomenal. The extra hunts were cool but not really worth doing imo bc after beating them all nothing really was that memorable.. extra hunts need to be God of war epic.
I love that the towers, when you activate them they only bring up like 2 or 3 markers. It makes you feel like you want to actually go for them.
I'm certainly glad that these aren't exactly like Ubisoft towers that reveal everything in that chunk of the map, but that really makes me question why they're there in the first place. They are completely unnecessary to begin with, especially because the devs have implemented all these guides you discover organically, like the springseeker owls and chocobo chicks for example. Even those are aguably too much, because it feels like you're just following directions the entire time. Everything else in the game is insanely good, but the exploration really suffers from all the handholding provided. It's an unfortunate side effect of most modern games, where everything costs so much money to make, that the developers don't want the player to miss anything anymore, making the stuff you find a lot less meaningful in my opinion.

As soon as i hear ff7 music i am already tearing up not to mention seeing the world and seeing how alive all the characters are expanded on, i dont even care about where the story takes us i am just here for the ride i am with the characters the story is just the journey we go together.
This game is what I always thought games would be starting in the PS3 gen. Bigger, more cinematic, more polished gameplay. Instead, everything got chopped up, and come the PS4 gen, things were being sold for parts. Then that became the norm. Games just felt watered down, but I always knew they could be so much more. Rebirth realizes this. It's a game from the PS2 Era with modern game design and technology. That's what makes it so incredible. You have the NPCs with personality, different areas are all distinct, the gameplay feels great, and it's disturbingly long. It took me 40 hours to beat, and I was ignoring most of the side content because I wanted to beat it before the internet could spoil anything.
This game proves that you can make a full, content complete, game with an expansive world in the modern day. It deserves 100% of the praise it's been getting. I'm still working my way through the side content, and I have no doubt I'm in for another 100 hours. And I can't wait.
I just made it to the Shinra facility, still using default weapons, since every weapons has a unique upgrade path and I prefer the original weapons.
there's no problem using only the main weapons, but you should at least try to unlock the special skills from each weapons. they add so much to the combat.

just finished the game after 70+ hours and yea it really did maintain that quality. i did less and less side stuff not because it wasn't interesting but because i just wanted to get to the next step

def excited to go back and clear sidequests, get the intel i missed and so on and so on, had a blast the whole way through!
What use to be still images and polygons in OG 7 are now full blown towns/landscapes etc. I never could of imagined it would look the way it does, I love this game soo much♥
What I don't like so far are Chadley/MAI talking too much lol.

@@clarityreunitedI think it was bit much, they could have cut out several of the Sephiroth fights and it would have been much cleaner. We'll see how Cloud's delusional state plays out in part 3.
My tear yup moment with the music happened in the Terror of the Deep fight in Under Junon. When they weaved in the Wutai/Yuffie theme in the fight music I was taken away
I'm in Gongaga with 30 hours in (focusing on the main story) and I love the game so much! I can't wait to finish the story and then dive deeper into each region and finish every side quest
There are even more quests that open up everywhere towards the end and they pay off things from earlier in the game or Remake. Some of the running around is tedious but the payoffs are generally worth it. You’ll probably be surprised and satisfied as you continue to progress. I can’t believe they pulled this off.
i think i can say it’s the best game i’ve ever played, if anything it has by far the best soundtrack i’ve ever heard in any media, even over star wars and LOTR
I'm not too sure about it being the best ever. It certainly is great. I think FFXIII beats Rebirth when it comes to OST, but to each their own, opinions are meant to be respected.
