I've used this thing as a daily driver all of 2023 -- it is RAD with a capital R. It can handle enduro, trail, XC...whatever you ask of it. Best endorsement I can give is my very sweet Chromag Stulus has stayed in the garage while I've pulled this thing out daily. I ran it with 2.6 Butcher T9s both ends (plus CushCore) and now I'm running 2.6 DHF/Dissector. Super stable speed limo. It's like a big freeride GS ski...the more speed you feed it, the more it comes alive! Awesome job Marin :)
I love my Marin El Roy!! This bike is a real swiss knife(California Knife maybe?? Haha) you can roll everything with this trail slayer!! I hope Marin will never stop producing this bike
Such great Geo on the Hardtail! (External routing #1! also just replaced all 10 bearings on linkage of my alpine trail, phewf!) I was wondering if anyone has tested or checked clearance for 650bx3.0? its nice to have a plus bike here in Alberta for milder winter days, then a shred-mobile hardtail for summer fun! My wife who is 5ft7 has ridden my 21 Alpine Trail XL before no problems, the reach is deceptively short with a steep seat tube and slack Head tube, old Reach and wheelbase numbers are so different with STA\HTA like that, me want!!
Hi guys! Question re:sizing. I'm about 183cm/6'1" and I ride an XL AT7. If I'd had my druthers, I would have bought a L though in no way am I complaining about my AT7--I love it. What I've noticed is that the L ER and the L AT7 have almost identical dimensions yet you rate the L ER for folks up to 5'10" while the L AT7 is rated for up to 6'2". What's the reason for the difference in rider height ratings? Having not ridden the ER, would I run into any issues if I got the L or would you still recommend the Grande for me? Thanks in advance!
Hello, I'm interested about the frame kit, I would like to know what size is the seat tube? What kind of bottom bracket it is and its size? Last question, does the bike accept a 1 1/2 1 1/8 fork? Thx a lot
Hey, I think about getting the frame only, can I run it with 160mm fox 36? My concept is that with proper 20% sag the geo is actually like around of 140 mm fork..
we recommend forks based on the axle to crown measurement which is a range of 541-561mm on the El Roy. s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/craft-marinbikes/documents/2020/SUSPENSION-FORK-AXLE-TO-CROWN-MEASUREMENT-GUIDE.pdf
@@marin_bikes my fork have 567 static axle to crown height, sag for 160mm is around 30mm so if those 5mm woulnd't void the warranty I'll be super curiosu to ride such a hardtail cruiser ❤️
@@marin_bikes Yeaaahhhh... not the same thing. They are both hard tails and that's it. Just like not all dual suspensions are the same. I have the San Quentin, but would prefer it in steel. I'd buy one.
Hey guys! Just wondering how the 2023 Marin Alpine Trail XR climbs? Sick channel love the bikes. Just while you guys are here: I’m a small MTB channel looking to grow. Was wondering how I could get a test bike from you guys to do a review? If not, I completely understand, it’s a lot to ask for a free bike 😂 Anyways thanks for answering my questions! Sincerely, Fishyy.
It climbs about as well as one would expect a longer-travel enduro bike to climb (not as well as a trail bike like our Rift Zones). But we do spend a lot of time working on suspension tuning, including making sure that the bikes climb as well as they can.
It's a very good bike, I wanted to buy it but what puts me off is the blue color. I don't like this blue, I find it ordinary. I wanted to buy (in France) the previous model in black but it was sold out. Is there a new model planned in a new color?
Love my el roy but I really wish yall would make a size smaller size with maybe a 10 or 20mm shorter reach. As a 5'8" rider it requires a lot of muscle to bunny hop this beast

Excellent! Glad you dig it!
Great work John. The El Roy is such a great bike, the Swiss Army Knife of bikes for sure, cheers Joe.
Thanks Joe

Come on Mr Oldale - El Roy's is indeed an awesome eating place, but it is in Sonoma County... be Petaluma Proud
He's been there plenty of times - generally the first place after getting off the Sonoma Airporter. We'll be sure to dock his pay for that oversight.

We designed the El Roy around 29" wheels and did not test for 27.5" x wide. But it's still Fun with a capital F!
So I've been dreaming about building a hardtail and then I realized you already did it
That's what we like to hear
Questions can you buy just frame , does it have a real bb ie threaded bb shell , and what does the large frame weight cheers 👏👍✌
www.marinbikes.com/bikes/2023-el-roy-frame-kit with a proper threaded BB shell (like all of our models)

Great question. Its becasue we only have 2 sizes in the El Roy, and hence the crossover is slightly different. We reccomend the Grande for your height
@@marin_bikes Noted! Very seriously considering buying one. Looks like a hoot.

Thx a lot
The seat tube is 30.9, the BB is a standard threaded BSA, and yes it takes a tapered fork
Does it have enough clearance for a 203 mm rotor upgrade in the back?

One of the only few bikes I would love to own only because of the Steel frame, and the other is the Pine Mountain.
Why not both?
@@marin_bikes I wish it was possible, but $$$ is the issue, and not enough room from where I am living.
Did the El Roy get discontinued? I was thinking of purchasing one from bikes online in Australia but it just vanished and never came back.
Not all our markets carry all models. They are very much still out there!
I have one for sale from Australia if interested.
A Marin San Quentin in steel would be awesome.
Kind of what the El Roy is, but the El Roy's geometry is a bit more aggressive.

What size did you get? Because I'm like the same height
Should have called it the Stretched Limo.
haha great idea
