More than malicious, it's seems more petty for the sake of being petty. I think Jason was the reason main branch was so empty while the smaller had so much activity. And why he wasn't going up in the ladder on the merge.
Something to add, this was brought in another comment: It seems Jason wanted to press clients into cancelling accounts (no demerit for J), so they were forced to open a new one, or two, so he could cash extra commissions (merits for J). Of course this is also fraud.
Yeah, idk about the UK but in the US opening and closing bank accounts without the express written permission of the customer is EXTREMELY illegal. Wells Fargo had to pay out half a billion dollars in damages after they did that to people.
It amuses me that they demoted him instead of just canning him. Odds are if they fired him, he could bullshit his way into another management job somewhere else.
They were in the middle of a merge, there was NO WAY a police case to be opened in that situation. Also, everyone knew he was done, even cashiers. And due to how he tumbled while doing simple task as cashier, he would be fired one day after complete merge. So don't worry.
Very satisfying story but I can't help but be baffled at the same time. What the hell was Jason thinking? Banks typically go out of their way to keep customers, not casually close their accounts on a whim. I suppose he was doing it for some power high but was he truly so stupid that he didn't think it would come back to bite him? Glad it did in a glorious fashion though.
Why open one account when you can open two? The pressure set by the time (morning) and his silver tongue would have net him more income by commission. Thanks OP was smarter
Jason was lucky to not be fired with charges pressed on him. Closing an account on behalf of a customer without express written consent is fraud. If this happened in the US, he would have been screwed. We take bank fraud very seriously here
You know, had Jason not closed OP’s account out of spite, he still might have his position. I guess it’s better to not get revenge on everyone who made you mad.
I just want to know what was going through this Jason's mine. A joint account would only bring in more money to the bank. And closeing accounts is the opposite of what banks want to do. What was he trying to accomplish?

when my mother was alive, she had a considerable amount of money in more than one bank. one bank was charging her $5 a month for not doing anything with the money each month, when she got her bank notice and noticed that the bank had already taken out about $40 so far. my mom went down to the bank and was told that since she has not done anything with the money that they charge her for not doing anything. mom then said that the bank lends that money out to other people as loans and that is movement, and then she asked for her money back or she would move her money to another bank. the bank manager put the money back into her account and said no more charges would ever be coming out like that again, and mom said if they ever did that to her again, she would move her money to another bank. mom said that she had a bit over $600,000 in that bank.
It's bizarre to see bank managers kicking out customers as some kind of power play. Is the bank so powerful and have so many customers they can afford kicking out customers with good track record? In most banks those managers will beg for people to become their customers

The current account switching service only came into operation in the UK about 5-10yrs ago, so it didn't exist back when this story happened. The service was forced on banks by the government, because they had previously made switching current accounts ridiculously difficult and the government wanted to encourage inter-bank competition by making it easier for people to move their custom.
Sadly the Lloyds-TSB Bank story is only too believable. The standard of UK high street banks customer service is incredibly poor. Wasn't it clear what Jason was doing? Lying about the procedures and his solution was to cancel their accounts and open an account in HIS branch, where HE would get the commission. Classic grift.
I used to have an issue with one Building Society (sort of a bank but not:- I really don’t quite know what the difference was). Wages with this one BldSoc took an extra day to clear, when compared with any other bank/BldSoc, and it caused some direct debit to bounce. The charged me more than the direct debit. I went in & discussed, bluntly in the open plan office set up they had (cashier desks had screens and were back to the wall, but still open plan.... different times). I then went to another bank, opened an account, and worked on transferring my direct debits, then went in to the BldSoc to publicly close my account for the reason that they took longer to process the BACS payments in. A month later, it transpired my life insurance had not transferred the direct debit, even though I’d completed the form & sent it. I got a letter from them & we resolved it over the phone. The next day I got a letter from the BldSoc. I was being charged for the cancelled Direct Debit. I went in again, and had another blunt “conversation”. I mean, I told the manager why I was there, despite having closed my account. I was blunt bordering rude, refused to shake his hand, and refused to allow him to speak. He was bluntly told that as I had not been able to resolve their failings, I had closed my account, (at this point, all customers and tellers were silent, stationary, gawping & listening), and that as my account was closed, they could not charge me for anything. I told him that if I received another letter, I would be back to discuss in no uncertain terms. (I have a voice which can be loud without shouting, thus all the customers& staff were hearing this). I finished with the point that BACS payments are processed overnight automatically, so it was clearly their policy to hold on to their customers’ money for the extra day to increase the BldSoc’s profits at our expense, thus the loss of my custom was their problem alone, they need to get a grip before other customers leave. (Plz note, I’m no Kevin, and me being like this is damned rare.) I bade him good day, and left. Never Did hear about that charge again. Sometimes you just gotta put things right, but save it for when it’s necessary.
My wife and I had an account that paid interest, no fees with direct deposit, ATM use only($5.00 per transaction fee if a human teller is used). these conditions are/were fine. One day all of the ATMs were down at ALL of the branches, and had to go inside. This BANK OF AMERICAn origin still wanted to charge the $5.00 fee. I mentioned the broken ATM and that I shouldn't have to pay the fee, but they insisted I had to pay. Fine! I would like to close my accounts, please. In cash. Now.
I suspect Jason acted as he did knowing as did Deborah that soon she would be taking over the branch so he was trying for a little revenge against the bank by driving away customers. It didnt work. What puzzles me is what difference it makes about any other accounts and why should it matter in opening a new account. UK banking laws perhaps?
I live in America and have had several different banks over the years. I refuse to do business with any bank that did a number on me. I have been at my latest bank over 20 years now. The first bank I had an account with also was the same bank one of my first employers had. We each lived in a different city and the business was in a third. When I went to cash my first paycheck they were going to charge me to cash it because the check was drawn on another branch!! I kid you not. So since my mother also had an account there, (yes she changed banks too) I deposited my check into her account and she gave me the money. Why they allowed this I don't know. When a cashier at the bank asked what was going on, my mother explained. She said the cashier thought it was funny but agreed it kept me from being charged to cash my check. Later when my account became less active, they also charged enough fines to take about half before I closed the account permanently.
19:17 OP has the exact problem solving skills that my parents and their parent's parents, for dealing with scum bag sleazy bs services, example: my dad's washing machine broke down last week, and when a guy inspected to see what was wrong, he said that the reason it broke, was because it was plugged into an extended cable connected to an outlet, when my dad heard about this, when he hung up he said "like I haven't heard that whore shit before" and no I'm not paraphrasing, that washing machine was plugged in to the extended outlet for 3 year with no issues up to this point, and the worst part is that these schweinehunds tried to get my dad to believe that his 5 year warranty was not valid. To give you perspective an what my dad is like, he was raised by a family who can see bullshit a continent away. The end result we got the washing machine replaced for free after warranty was reinstated, and like OP got what was rightfully his and what he deserves.

The end result we got the washing machine replaced for free after warranty was reinstated, and like OP got what was rightfully his and what he deserves.
but why what was his goal by this loosing costomer so heve less to do?
What are gyro credits/slips?

so glad i'm with nationwide bank
This is so fake, I looked it up and Acme XYZ bank doesn’t even exist
You think OP is just going to come out and say the real bank name? It's obviously a made up name. The story sounds very true though.
This comment made me wish I'm rich enough to open a bank called acme xyz with statues of bugs bunny and daffy duck on the front door and the security guards all wear yosemite Sam costume.
Kos 291 well then make it happen my guy I believe in you
The story is not fake lmao, they used a fake name. Everyone from the UK were able to work out what the real banks name is called though: Lloyd’s TSB.
I love this
