Yeah, thanks for doing that lesson Grant. I've been struggling with my woods/driver as of late. Iron striking, wedge game and putting are pretty solid. I think if I could keep my woods and tee shots in play more, I'd be having a much better time on the course; and kicking my buddies' asses lol
Would love more videos of you helping amateurs like that one video at the range with the random. Your swing is so good it’s hard to relate to sometimes. I’m in Palm beach, a 14 handicap, probably super relatable advice from teaching me to majority of viewers. Just saying. Thirsty turtle or square grouper on the house after ⛳️🏌🏽♂️
This series is very good at addressing what I do poorly, and having two people to chat about the topic helps to explain the underlying problem better than a one man show.
Eric's the real deal, no doubt about it, I've been following Eric since I caught the golf bug, no one on social has done more interaction with other instructors than Eric, unbelievable, the man's been all over the country doing his thing. His regular appearance with JT is second to none, one of the best coaches in golf, Eric gets his message out ,if you've noticed, any part of the instructions Eric will state out loud 3 or 4 times, and for good reason, give your brain a task, and it will do it, commit, it's a key word in Golf instruction. Thank you, guys, Grant, you have one of the nicest golf swings to emulate, if only!! haha, maybe in a great dream.I can't see any trained eye with a negative breakdown on your swing, no way, silence.unless the Shadow appears, the funny, but very true. It's a good way to see if you're swaying, though. Be safe all.
Excellent post! I'm a head case too when the sun is directly behind me. It's not my head moving that I see it's the shadow of my overall backswing and pausing to see if I'm aligned to the target with the shaft of the club. It's really weird. I'll start shanking here and there.
@BloodySoup74 no doubt, it's crazy how we can complicate every body movement for what might think could be the perfect swing, but I can't help it, I just love the game of golf. Good luck man, be safe.
Fairway woods (metals) is a topic seldom covered and you guys nailed the biggest problem with solid solutions! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Enjoying the duo vids - keep them coming
Fantastic and easy tips! When I was young my 3 wood was my favorite club for so many years. Eventually, it became a nearly impossible club for me to hit. Then I heard the first tip you mentioned here… Treat it like an iron (realizing I was treating it like a driver). Instant turn around for me. Sometimes the most simple tips are the best ones!
I think i've been struggling with all the aspects you talked about. Definitely been afraid to take a little divot so I've been standing up in the swing. Thanks!
Just what I needed. I've watched Eric for years and he is an excellent teacher. Was surprised how wide a stance you take.....looks like a driver setup almost.
I agree with you, but obviously Grant makes it work. I think a narrower stance would encourage a more downward strike, and lessen the chance of topping the ball.
He's so good with the weight transfer which is why it works, if you are slower with your weight transfer than with your swing, then narrower stance will help.
Great video! A tip I read from Sergio Garcia in a golf magazine many years ago was once you’re at the top of your swing is pretend you’re pulling a chain straight down. Really helps make sure your hands and the shaft are going first and not the club head.
OMG! The "Shadow Effect" is so disrupting to me. You are the first guy I have ever heard mention it. Just knowing I am not alone with that issue is helpful. Really glad you mentioned it.
Haven't played in many years, bought new clubs for the new bag a gf bought me for Christmas, but I have never used them. I stumbled on your video with Kai Trump. then I've watched a few others and it's gotten me quite interested in playing again. Going to see if I can get my nephew to play a round soon before or after he gets married next month!
Grant, I am such a big fan, and I absolutely love your channel and the content you provide. Over the last year, I have gone from an 11 handicap down to a 5, all due to the positive influence you have had on me and my game. No matter the content, I am always finding something that I can take to the course and have an immediate impact on my game. I want to be as respectful as possible and don’t want to appear negative when I say that you don’t need this guy to help you teach. I would much rather see you helping an amateur on the range with you giving a lesson instead of getting one. If you feel the need to be a student, I would enjoy your dad being the teacher much more than Eric. Sorry, I just don’t relate to him.
Great tips guys. I would add not putting the ball in the same position as you would with a driver. Move it back a couple inches back from that in your stance.
Good video, fortunately for me 3WOD is one of the best shots in my bag. A good normal square strike will always be better than any modification you can make to try and increase loft or hit harder. Get in your head, "just a normal swing and strike" instead of "I gotta crush this thing or I better not top or chunk this". The swing is almost like hitting a standard 7-iron, just with the difference of the lie angle and shaft length.
Great stuff again guys! I often fat my woods and top, so this helps me a ton. One critique: the consistent 2nd camera color differential is a little distracting. I like the effect once in a while though 😊
Enjoyed the teaching. Could you please talk about ball position, weight distribution, and the type swing to make with the 3 wood (i.e., should a fairway wood swing be sweeping like a driver or hitting down like an iron?). Thanks!
Great video, Grant. My 3 wood is my mystery club. I top about half of my shots, so I am never confident enough to actually use it on the course. If I hit 10 balls with it on the range before a round, I top 5 of them, so I tend to leave it in the bag during a round, and rely on my 17° hybrid. I will practice what I learned on this video, for sure. One minor criticism. Eric has a last name, you never used it in your video. Keep up the great instructional videos.
I have trouble hitting my 6,5,4 irons and 3 hybrid but I hit my 7,8, and 9 irons ok. I can’t figure out why. Thank you for the video. Awesome content!! I’m happy I have found this channel.
Grant, I noticed that you use the Arccos sensors on your Golf clubs, do you have any info or recommendations for a launch monitor that pairs great with the Arccos app? Any info or advice would be appreciated. Thanks
Can you go over the proper setup and technique for hitting wedges? That’s what’s giving the most issue right now. I’m adding loft and either hitting them straight up in the air or skulling it
hahahah Grant I have the same issue with shadows. If it is in front of me I stripe it, but if it is behind me I really struggle because it seems like I am making this weird, collapsed swing. LOL I hate it
and spine tilt away from the target, like you do for driver where you’re trying to hit up on the ball is a big no no for fairway woods off the ground. set up with those shoulders more level!
Shadows! I can NOT concentrate and hit my shot with any consistency if my shadow is over the ball. Grant, misery loves company. Thanks for sharing that. Maybe a sports psychologist can help us? 🤣
Some constructive criticism from one videographer to another. It could also be for the editor. The second cameraman needs to stay steady, idk if ur gimbal horizontal tilt isn't calibrated or what, but its distracting. Also, you should work on keeping a consistent color. Not sure if you're color grading or missing the white balance, but it doesn't look good at all. The cameramen need to share what white balance they're setting.
The shadow issue is part of a bigger, all inclusive issue. Conscious recognition of the world. Visual processing /focus is impaired by movement in the visual field. Keeping eyes and focus on the target (usually the ball,) is challenged when there is movement. My eyes follow my putter off the ball on the takeaway. I bet this is why Spieth looks ahead of the ball. This is why movement of galleries in proximity to players is distracting. So you are correct, please do a segment on fixing this.
Hope this helps you guys! Thank you guys

Eric and grovat, thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.😊😊
very helpful! I have a serious problem topping the ball. Will try this out
Thanks for having me on Grant---had a blast!!
Thanks for the good instruction!
I like letting Eric do most of the teaching. One of the best teaching videos you guys did together
This series is very good at addressing what I do poorly, and having two people to chat about the topic helps to explain the underlying problem better than a one man show.
Moving the Ball back more in my Stance helped Me
You two together might be one of the best at explaining and teaching out there. Good stuff 👍🏼

Eric needs to play more matches with guys like you Grant. He has such a great energy and I would love to see him on more channels.
My shadow throws me off too. Great video Grant!

Tempo tip helped a lot guys thanks. Still got a long way to go. But this tip has been helping me hit my 3 and 5 wood 150+ yards
Same I always try to crush my long clubs and it always backfires on me
Eric is such a great teacher watch all his vids !
Great video. I’m a little surprised you did not mention where to position the ball in your stance but still a wonderful teaching video.
I think i've been struggling with all the aspects you talked about. Definitely been afraid to take a little divot so I've been standing up in the swing. Thanks!

I’m so jealous of Grant, ridiculous teeth, plays golf for a living, fine family - absolute bastard of the first degree
With a damn good swing 🤣
@@anthonydibernardo1776I would probably kill for my swing to look like his. Smooth

Nice! I’d also like to see something on how to make adjustments based on slope … uphill, downhill and sidehill lies.
Just watched one of ur older fairway woods tutorial and this one and so far so good, im making consistent contact. Thx
Wow what an incredible video. These tips helped me break 80 two times in a row last week!
Great video with some good info. I will definitely remember to do this at my next range session. Thank you.
Cogorno is the man. Love the collaboration!
Love this collab. Two phenomenal teachers of the game.
Superb instruction. What a pair. More please. 🙏🏻 🇬🇧
Thanks for sharing!
Glad to see Eric on your teaching channel! Always have an "issue" of swinging to hard with my fairway woods. Needed this reminder for sure! Well done!
I just got the yips with my woods. Perfect timing! 🙏🏼
Super friends cross over 🙏 Eric is one of the best in the business. Love his channel. 🫡

YES GRANT! The shadow issue! It's real and I hate it so much!

Great video. I hate seeing my shadow too!!! I loved your video at Fazio Canyons with Sergio, that’s my home course!
This helped me so much. Great video!!!
8:10 I have the same problem with the shadow.
That tempo is definitely world class
Great teamwork teaching. Very helpful lesson. Thanks

Great info !!’
Needed the 4th tip !! Thanks!🙏
Greats tips guys. Thank you!
my 3 wood has been shaky lately hopefully this will help tmr love the content grant!
3 wood is my go to club off the tee and I always fat it off the deck. Thanks for the vid dude, gonna try this out.
Great stuff again guys! I often fat my woods and top, so this helps me a ton.
One critique: the consistent 2nd camera color differential is a little distracting. I like the effect once in a while though 😊
Thank you Grant, it helps.
Thanks Grant and Eric! I’m going to put the tips to use tomorrow morning! 😊

Absolutely love these tips!!!
Wow this is the perfect collab
Love it guys. Appreciate the free tips!
Very helpful! Please do a shadow lesson 😂
Made a hole in one the other day thanks to the tips and tricks. Thank you
Let’s go! Congrats
Thanks Grant and Eric!!! what a value 🤝
Let’s not forget how good your shorts are. Some of the best content out there.
Thank you Grant! Bought a new wood and can't even use it!
Too relatable
Oh damn! Last thing I expected was to hear about someone else having a shadow issue! Literally thought it was just a 'me' thing. 😆
Eric is so good. Nice video. Apt.
Loving these!
2 of the best here. Let's go!!
Man that shadow comment gets me. As soon as my shadow is over the ball, as soon as I initiate my backswing all I do is look at my shadow lol
TY YOU GRANT!
Grant,
I noticed that you use the Arccos sensors on your Golf clubs, do you have any info or recommendations for a launch monitor that pairs great with the Arccos app? Any info or advice would be appreciated. Thanks
Can you please do a video on what kills distance and how we can correct this !! PLEASE
Can you go over the proper setup and technique for hitting wedges? That’s what’s giving the most issue right now. I’m adding loft and either hitting them straight up in the air or skulling it
Grant bring Eric back for another lesson!
Quick question: the right arm straight after the golf ball principle; does that apply to the driver as well?
Good tips. Now, about that shadow thing. I cant stop starring at my shadow when I swing! UGGG
hahahah Grant I have the same issue with shadows. If it is in front of me I stripe it, but if it is behind me I really struggle because it seems like I am making this weird, collapsed swing. LOL I hate it
You’re the man
and spine tilt away from the target, like you do for driver where you’re trying to hit up on the ball is a big no no for fairway woods off the ground. set up with those shoulders more level!
I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE WHOS SHADOW MESSES ME UP!!!
What's your weight distribution at set up?
I like how he talks about about not trying to hit it harder because it’s a 3 wood. I feel like I do that when trying to hit my longer clubs.
I think I top it sometimes from standing up at transition. I’ll give drill 4 a try!
How did you guys know this is a major issue for me lately. Great lesson when I needed it the most. Thanks to both of you.
Shadow drives me crazy too. I tend to play late afternoon just to avoid it
Thank you, I am always topping my 5 wood.
Shadows! I can NOT concentrate and hit my shot with any consistency if my shadow is over the ball. Grant, misery loves company. Thanks for sharing that. Maybe a sports psychologist can help us? 🤣

When Grant sees his shadow it means a long winter.
Good tips all, however, I thought one of the tips for sure would be about ball position for shots from the Fairway with a wood... Just saying
Great advice, is snuggle to much with topping my 5 and 3 wood. I fall into the chicken wing category. Thank you
Let the club do the work.
Idea: Find a guy who’s actively topping it, show the flaw (early extension, falling back, etc.) and fix the cause in a lesson. Thanks for the lessons.
Same issue with the shadow, lol 😂cant hit long clubs with that damn shadow
Grant - NEEDED you to say that shadow thing. It crushes me.
Same here. Totally screws me up when I can see how bad my takeaway is. 😀
Agreed we need a video on this
I agree, but having the sun at your back during practice is a big help in keeping your head steady. Almost as good as a mirror.
What about hitting a foot deep divot.? How I fix that
Pause of the century😂
I thought I was the only one with the shadow issue lol. If you figure it out let me know the secret please lol great video as always
Osprey golf course??
The shadow issue is part of a bigger, all inclusive issue. Conscious recognition of the world. Visual processing /focus is impaired by movement in the visual field. Not fair Eric using Grant as your student Grant has beautiful tempo to start with
Where does Eric teach?
When I stopped trying to swing my fairway woods hard, my consistency improved. The biggest issue is when the ball is below my feet.
Ah, the old Bobby Burger fairway wood top for negative yardage 😂 been there, done that..
Long irons next please Grant! I can't hit my 4 & 5 iron to save my life
