Tony, I'm watching the part where you're priming the oil system and thinking how using an air ratchet or cordless ratchet would make that job way easier than the 90 degree adapter you're messing with. 👍👍
This might be my favorite automotive channel currently. Freiburger and Finnegan are obviously the OGs, Freiburger is in his Motortrend empire and Mike's channel is great but I feel like Stay Tuned is the spiritual successor to Roadkill now
The Tony Angelo hamburger theory of clutch design, love it. This channel has the most exciting builds I swear, this and the V12 Mustang are truly imaginative breaths of fresh air in a crowded space.
People don't beleive me when I tell them my dad and an associate built a 327 chevy stoked down to 290 that would Rev out to 12K. This was 1970s drag philosophy in whatever class they were running. There was no water in that engine. The heads were "concreted." Rockers were on a shaft. Triple coil valve springs. The whole point of these revs was to make high rpm torque. They had it mated to a torque flight transmission with a manual shift. And a monster rear differential in the rear crazy low (high numerical) ratio. It was one manual shift without a clutch at half track and nothing but rpms through the 1/4 mile trap. Just a different philosophy. But people say pushord engines can't rev that high. I saw it. I heard it.
OMG, "I don't wanna get super technical... but they're made out of bolts and black paint." If that was a t-shirt, I would totally buy it! 🤣 I blew "wobble pop" out my nose when Tony said that.
Sounds amazing! All your hard work is paying off. Nothing better than an old shoebox with a high revving small block and manual gearbox. God bless America!
I really appreciate the editing. You do a good job of running high speed during the long sections but give us the great funny commenting. Keep up the great work. I love the back yard feel you give us normal guys. Not spending thousands of $$$$ doing something we could never afford. Great job to you all.TY
I love how once tony throwing the throttle back and the 55" is rocking side to side... it's a beast... btw tony put the hood hinges up like we used to do in the 80s
I remember back in the early 80’s we were spending at least 5 grand to make a decent dent at Atco or Maple Grove. So the money you spent on that engine was well spent if you’re looking to have fun. Can’t wait to see what it runs. Remember that with any racing engine that the drive shaft is the weakest point. I’ve seen multiple twist and shouts at the track and it really can be frustrating and avoided. Great Video Thanks 🙏
"Good enough for now" is only temporary until it fails 😁😁😁 Cool stuff guys keep it coming! Love how you've been able to keep the hrg vibes going. In a way I'm kinda glad covid killed hot rod garage. Although it would be cool to see lucky on the channel once in a while. Why not rope him into an episode or 2? That would be a freakin awesome comeback series!!!
I was thinking the same about Lucky in a guest spot/crossover episode. That’d be sweet. And like we used to say “good enough for government work.” Although with the gov’t these days, that ain’t saying much lol
I love the genuine surprise on Tony’s face when the runout was in tolerance on the bellhousing 😂😂😂 he really wasn’t ready for that to work like that 😂😂🔧🔧🔧🔧
Love the sound of NASCAR V8's!!! Although, either you have a 200lb Flywheel or a baseplate gasket leaking. Seems to hang out at high Idle RPM for quite awhile. Would expect it to be a lot more raspier than it is.
Ok I’m back again. Just gotta say, there are some badass builds on YT, and @staytuned is doing some of the best, but y’all’s banter in the shop IS the best!! I absolutely could not be coworkers with yall because my ass would be completely unproductive lmao!!! Thanks for a mid week blessing 39:52
The crazy thing about these NASCAR motors is that they’re made to withstand hours of constant abuse. Not just quarter mile passes. That’s why they cost 💲100k+ when new.
Gosh dang. When I was 21, I got to sit in the intimidators car and spark it off. The motor revved like wicked smooth and fast and was the best experience behind the wheel EVER. I think it was the Kirk Shelmerdine that was there being a super rad dude early on a Saturday in memory of the late Dale Earnhardt. You sir have a wicked engine…brings back memories
In the 1980s film The Blues Brothers, Elwood says, "It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses". Jake then responds, "Hit it".
great show dude , really enjoying this format and your style . it made me smile when you put in that trans. to see you not having to lift and struggle with heavy parts , you new guy held that well , good to see you smile and not holding your back after putting in a trans . be safe from Dublin. edit; next merch shirt idea , " I wouldn't lick it " a real Tonyisim right there .
Obviously I love the stuff you’re doing! Your videos are extremely well produced! Your content is informative, funny, and very entertaining. You do an amazing job!!! It’s better than watching you on a network show. GREAT JOB! You mention getting on I-95 at Byberry Rd during one of the 55 episodes. I lived in NE Philly in Morell Park by the NE airport, very close to Byberry Rd. Back in the day, Byberry was also a mental institute on the west side of Roosevelt Blvd north of Woodhaven Rd. I am sure it’s long gone and something else is built there now. It was a spooking looking place back then. My mother used to say, “you kids are making me crazy, they are gonna put me in Byberry!” We moved to Pottstown in 1969. I know every country road for a 20 mile radius because my parents encouraged us to explore on our bikes. It was a different time, kids went outside and played. Our favorite pizza place was Little Italy on north High St close to the Hospital. They must have had issues with the “family” in the city because the restaurant got blown up 2 times back in 1974/75. After the second bomb, we always got our pies TO GO! The Little Italy restaurant was rebuilt across from the Hill School, I ate there in 2007 revisiting on a business trip. Moved to Atlanta in 1978, I think of Pottstown all the time! When I saw that your shows were possibly produced in the area, I started watching the background to see if I recognize anything. Is your shop closer to Pennsburg?
You guys are throwing NASCAR motors into classic cars and making 500hp engines from a junkyard. Take 1/32 of that talent and install a ductless A/C unit. I'm sure Mr. Cool would sponsor it. 😂
Since you already drilled a hole for the oil tank drain just cut a bigger hole out so you can drop that oil tank down further. This way you can eventually run a hood if you want too. Love all the builds but this is my favorite by far! If your ever in levittown area and you need a hand with anything hit me up.
Tony you’re like the perfect guy to pull off the project I’ve always wanted to see, badass classic hotrod chassis and motor set up to rip drifts around a circuit
I'm really liking the hour long format, guys. I can only imagine how much of a pain it is to film enough good content for long videos, but you're making it look easy. Much love as always.
"Fright-Lightning" is the perfect name .... White lighting being the liquor that NASCAR was born from... But 800hp is far more than the ol getaway rigs of grassroots beginnings
You rambling on like you do really makes this my favorite channel to watch. Huge fan! Yalls channel brings back a lot of good memories. Thank yall! And a big HOWDY from Bruceville Texas
Few months ago i acquired two 57's that came with the property we bought. Was able to get paperwork for one and can't wait to get started on it. I like 55's better but, I'm not complaining about free
Love the "just beast in the transmission" I mean, people don't get to pick their genetics, but damn sure wish i was big enough to do that. Awesome project Tony! Your gonna KEEP the shop!
You and me both! It was a ton more plumbing than I thought but hopefully next time is exhaust driveshaft and brakes and we can hit the PA streets! and put these 43 year old tires to bed.
Love it! Originally I was hoping you were going to do a tilt front end, but seems like that would be tricky with all the oil plumbing. For the shop, have you thought about insulating/sealing and installing a wall mounted heat pump? I bet Mr Cool would send you one for free haha.
Built one, years ago, 2 years researching parts to put together and acquiring them, then finding a machine shop I trusted to machine the ultra rare bowtie block, check all measurements, balance and blueprint the block, bush the lifter bores in perfect alignment, then I weighed every moving part like rods pistons rings etc and made them all weigh exactly the same, assemble the engine carefully placing the 2k callies bullet crank, then each rod and piston assembly, custom port the AFR heads and install titanium backcut valves with beehive springs, solid roller lifters, 3/8 chromoly pushrods, custom made single plane Wilson intake, 2" carb spacer for added velocity, 800 cfm Carter thermoquad, dyno test and ran 780 hp at 8,000 rpm 600 ft # tourque at 5500. This engine would wind like a 2 stroke chainsaw the instant the throttle was touched to 9k. Amazing ! And the most fun I've had building an engine ever. Certainly my most successful home build.
My company paid for us to go out to a NASCAR track and do that driving experience thing. We drove real retired cup cars from around 2002 or so. They were governed to a certain RPM so we could not go faster than 158mph. Once I got comfortable with the wall (which took a few laps) I was able to achieve 154mph top speed. Anyway, the point I wanted to make was that those engines reved differently than what I was familiar with. They are incredible close tolerances and almost no vibration. Ran like a sewing machine. It was interesting to hear and feel.
Congratulations Tony. That engine does sound like what it is - a race car engine. It is wonderful to watch you build something you have always wanted. Be well.
Revving from heaven ,,, I've just listened to the ripping revving through stereo on surround sound ...... It made the old tin walls in the garage vibrate with the vibe of revving .... Hahaha 🤣😂 lolz 😆 ... Paul ✌️

Tony is REAL DEAL relatable and organic... the way a shop SHOULD be. Finnegan is unaffordable bloated in another world.
The Tony Angelo hamburger theory of clutch design, love it. This channel has the most exciting builds I swear, this and the V12 Mustang are truly imaginative breaths of fresh air in a crowded space.
