He's always been fairly comfortable in front of the camera, he's always been a fairly knowledgeable car guy, and he ALWAYS entertains somehow. Tony, I remember your first few weeks on HRG and everyone kept saying that you were awkward on camera and you'd never get over it, but look at you now bro. • @Sommertest
    @Sommertest 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

    Lengthening the bottom bar on the 4 link will add preload (weight) to that side. If you are turning left off the line, preload the left side.
    I haven’t tuned a chassis in 20 years, but the way we would tackle a chassis tune was bar centerline (you want the 4 link bars to theoretically cross at the 60/40 weight distribution point, at the cam centerline). Then you scale for preload (again 60/40 front to back), with the rear driver’s side to scale 50 to 100 lbs heavier than the right.
    Set the compression and rebound at 50/50 each and let her eat. Tune major items first (rear steer, weight distribution), and try for a 4 to 6 inch front end lift.
    Next, adjust rear compression for 3 inches overall squat for the 60 foot. The rebound should then be adjusted to eliminate bounce as the car tries to unload the tires.
    All that said, I personally wanted the front to pick up immediately and get the tires out of the lights as fast as possible. That helps a great deal with RT.
    When the tune is right for the car, the only race day changes should be tire pressure, and possibly some rebound adjustments. Back when I was tuning we didn’t have an effective way to make on track timing and fuel adjustments. Instead we used two stage clutches and added or subtracted weights from the clutch plates to manage the clutch slippage at specific rpm.

      It's a ladder bar, so we are kind of stuck in that regard.

    • @Sommertest
      @Sommertest 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@StayTunedTAthere are preload tuneable ladder bars available. Chris Alston sells a kit with a preload adjustable top bar.
      You described adding load through the anti-sway bar which is also a good method for ladder bars. Seemed to work for you as the track worked in later in the day.

    Back in the day of gas classes , the front end had nothing to do with it . The classes were based on cubic inches and weight . As I recall , an otherwise stock 1956 Chevy with a transplanted 327 cubic inch engine ran in the D/Gas class . There were other considerations , but it was basically weight and cubic inches . On the street or the local drive in , it had to have ' The Look ' to be called a Gasser ....but at the drags was a different story .

    • @chucktaylor2772
      @chucktaylor2772 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If I am not mistaken, the class was called Gasser because the cars ran gasoline for fuel. Weight and cubic inches was the A,B,C, etc etc part.

      @@chucktaylor2772 Probably correct , but my memory isn't that good . I know for sure that Altered Cars were ALWAYS straight axle , but I'm not sure if it was a rules or weight thing . Anyway , we all like the look of the straight axle , but we all like seeing drivers go home all together in one piece too .....most of us anyway . for 2024 , it ain't gonna be like everyone's been asleep for a year .....there will be some close racing next month .

I guess then it comes down to what you want to take on. I personally struggled running consistently with a stick, I did break stuff, and optimizing the setup from track to track was frustrating at times.
