I started watching roadkill when it 1st started; it always blows me away how fryburger spits out car specs like he wrote the book. The man is a wealth of knowledge.
Fellow ford guy here and 100% agree. So many of the youtube car channels do the ls swap or the modern mopar crate engine.. another problem is most channels are heavily focused on chevy/mopar (like vice grip garage or uncle Tony garage or stay tuned) very little ford content..
There is good reason for that older sbf and big block ford are way too expensive and still end up inferior, thats why most old fords are chevy swapped. Ford did finally catch up with the coyote so the ford content is growing, but still not nearly as many cool old fords, mopar and especially gm made way more cool bodies to hot rod.@@davidgalea6113
Yeah literally, even though that 5.9 sounds like junk I can appreciate them getting the car going with at least some sort of unique and correct brand V8, wish old cars were in that decent of shape in northern BC Canada I’d be having somethin cooler than an SN95 as a project 😂
Yeah, about the only Ford stuff you see getting swapped into cars is either every last Mustang II getting harvested for its front suspension to put in a Deuce Coupe, or everybody and their mother running a nine-inch.
Anyone can do this stuff even you can, especially on classic cars . welding, painting, bodywork, mechanical , engine building etc etc all you need is to buy some tools and some technical magazines or shop manuals to guide you. Most car guys like myslef learn by just doing it and by trail and error. If you are in the USA you are even luckier than me because you have access to plentiful classic cars tons of junkyard v8 engines lots of parts availability... here in Europe we have none of that, took me ages to get ahold of an American v8 4speed classic car but where there's a will there a way..
THANKS for bringing back some great memories, ,my DAD worked for Chrysler as a manager for 25 years till 1974, he quit because he said 1974 was the last year for the good Mopars and my brother and mine first burnout was done in my Moms new 1973 Plymouth v8 Duster.
its such a shame I would have given Freiburger our Duster for free as my Dad pulled it off road as in Canada the trunk floors and quarters all rotted so bad ,but it had perfect and the best all white interrior high bucket seats with floor console and perfect bumpers with rally wheels and v8 with 57 k on it
I read a lot of car craft in the 90s when they started budget builds .. darts and dusters were always in there .. kind of the blueprint for roadkill.. love it 😎
Hey David and steve great episode, back in 70 s I replaced the soft plugs in a friend’s 1957 Chevy small block ice pushed one completely out and the second one was just hanging might have been stuck to the ice anyway no cracks in the block, and a real pain in the butt with exhaust manifold on
You have to give him a pass.....He is from southern California, they have snow on their spelling tests in first grade. Freeze is what the police yell at you.
Literally spent the last 2 days learning to do freeze plugs in a tb48 Nissan engine in the car. Come to the first roadkill episode I see in ages and they’re doing one ahah😊
My first ride in a quick MoPar was my best friend's big brother's '70 Dart 340 4-speed. He really banged the gears, then looked over his shoulder and said, "This is the fastest car you've ever been in, right?" and I nodded my head.
Good call Steve on that power steering adjustment. Most people don't know about that sliding piece on top of gearbox to control power steering flow to a neutral side to side flow.
That was a good, and interesting call. Thats something I haven't heard of, but is stored in the back of my brain now (to be fair, I dont wrench on old mopars), stuff like that can be a real life saver to someone stuck in a tight situation (having a car just not working right, and struggling to figure out why)
On the freeze plug topic I actually had an Oldsmobile Toronado big block when I lived in Yakima Washington and if it hadn't been for the freeze plug the block would have cracked. It was a waterfall block of ice coming out of the hole.
My Dad had the biggest Mopar car collection in our city 1929 Plymouth / 1949 Chrysler Royal /1950 Dodge 2dr Post/ 1963 & 1964 Valiant /1964 383 Dodge/1966 Valiant/1968 Plymouth sport FURY/1969 CUDA /1971 Dodge Challenger RT 383 34,000 MILES /1972 CUDA AAR TRIBUTE /1973 318 Duster/1974 GOLD Duster/and his fav 1972 SE BIG BLOCK CHARGER,and my brother had a 1965 barracuda /1966 barracuda and a 1968 D stock Dart and I worked at a Chrysler Dealership and had a 1969 barracuda /1971 challenger / 1972 barracuda, I remember in 1984 the farmer that bought one of the only Hemi Road Runners that was sold from us came into our dealership for a oil change ,one of our service guys wanted to buy it from him, he said he will never never sell it////
Great project! And I laughed when they're out testing the car with open headers, Dulcith is sitting there with ear protection, and Freiberger's wearing a T-shirt; "LOUD PIPES SAVE LIVES!!"
It's called the soft plug or a freeze plug and yes it can pop out when the water freezes in the block. I have seen it happen many times. If you found one bad one then you should replace all of them while you have it sitting there and easily accessible. It's about $25.00 worth of insurance. You should take all of them out and do a complete power flush what's a garden hose or a pressure washer. Cartridge roll the hole and seal the new soft plug with Permatex 3H
Reminds me of the old days wrenching on cars and modifying them to take more abuse, then go beat on them, and street race.... Love those times, and still doing it 40 years later!
if you're not going to do anything about the floor rust, why in the world would you cut out a perfectly good, rare rubber floor? You just removed originality that is very cool.
Roadkill is awesome. It's nice to see what Beavis and Butthead do once they've grown up. Dulcich is obviously Butthead, while only a few alterations are necessary to turn Freiberger into Beavis.
Talking freeze plugs. I had a 5.0 mustang. It sat outside in the winter. I had just water in the radiator. Pulled it inside one day and found the freeze plug where it was parked. Had to put it back in because I sold it. They drove it home with no problems.
I had a 72 Dodge Dart -Demon. It had a Dart tag on the deck lid. Demon 340 on the fenders.😎.. four speed with a bench seat. Big thermalqaude, manual secondarys. Sure grip with whatever gear it had. It was original, no fake hood scoops, blue with black stripes. I wish I still had it, but it was a Michigan car and the rust got so bad the rear springs tore out of the frame etc. I didn't have a garage to even save the drive train. I had a friend sell it on a main highway. I would like to think it's soul still lives on in something else
Entertaining as usual. Thanks! Would it be possible to get the episode number in the tittle of the videos? Would be easier for us to find the ones we like.
In Australia they're not called freeze plugs OR core plugs. They're Welch plugs. Welch plugs are slightly different to some core plugs but essentially the same thing. Invented by the Welch car company.
Should have left the manual steering gear box in. You could have just left the power steering pump on and block of the ports until you find an idler pulley
I had a 96 s10 4cyl that froze up and popped out the freeze plug in the back of the engine. I had to pull the trans and flywheel to replace it. It was a pain but it wasn't cracked. Got lucky😂
I hate the evolution of the engine crane and axle lifter as much as I love them.... just weld another extension on until something lands on your toes.... :-)
you are right in the reason they are there is for casting but after casting they act as freeze plugs especially in florida georgia and alabama and tenn.
Jared of The Questionable Garage managed to put all three major V8 platforms into the same chassis, and took the car to all three Holley events to compete… forgive me if I’m not impressed.
My old (1970) Roadrunner, didn't have power steering, OR power brakes. Instead. the 383 A833 DID have POWER! (One of my worst mistakes, was selling it!) stev
I actually did have a freeze plug pop out of my old boat motor when the water inside froze, and it did not crack the block. Was super baffling honestly, i for sure thought a new block was in order.
Last winter, my friends 440 blew put a freeze plug and didn;t crack the block. up here in Vancouver BC. tho i have seen a few cracked block with freeze plugs still in place.
I started watching roadkill when it 1st started; it always blows me away how fryburger spits out car specs like he wrote the book. The man is a wealth of knowledge.

Many TH-cam channels and videos try ; but no one beats these guys in repour and interest in what they are doing at the time !
Roadkill started on TH-cam.
@@thedude8046yep..those were the good old days then they shafted us..even cancelled my paid subscription because I live outside of the US..
The fluids these two spill everywhere or the rapport they have between each other?

THE BEST SHOW EVER! Never stop doing what you guys do!
1970-1972 Duster is my dream car man such a badass car
Long live roadkill 🤘🏼
and they cars they build.
Long live to the V8 swap
Ya those guys get all the fun
Long live 🧊
Why? It's just another over produced car show. When it started in TH-cam was when it was good
Valve float is just that mechanical rev limiter kicking in !

Yeah ole Fry Guy isn't used to working on cars from snowy states. I've seen it happen here in Colorado as well. 🤙

Man !! I have allways loved those mopars!!!
Yeahhh❤❤❤ we need the full episode here in TH-cam
Dulcich is the man! Freiburger and Steve are the absolute automotive dream team
Love it!! Roadkill challenge!! Pull out all the old cars from the bone yard and put them back on the road 😂!!
The 360 is such an awesome amazing motor it makes horsepower without even having a cam in it!
That video takes me back to the early 80’s

Watched a few episodes of Gotham Garage on Netflix, but I have to say this is where it's at. Roadkill is amazing. Thank you for keeping it real.
the gotham guys and gal seem too staged / fake . these two gentlemen are the real deal
On the freeze plug topic I actually had an Oldsmobile Toronado big block when I lived in Yakima Washington and if it hadn't been for the freeze plug the block would have cracked. It was a waterfall block of ice coming out of the hole.
same but with a 4 door 71 skylark, ran fine after new one put back in for at least 24K miles after that
Ah... the good old days, here in real time! Thanks guys!
Love to see one of your rust busker either painted with a rattle can or even a paint brush. Be just too cool
You learn something new everyday. I also learned early on that they were called freeze plugs and that that was their purpose.
"Don't get it right, just get it running". Love that quote
Duster was my first car . Who doesn't love these old Mopar's?!?
Driving off into the Sun set.....Thanks guy's
I gladly pay for MT On Demand. Hope this show NEVER ENDS!

You gotta build that 360 up
Pretty easy to like what these two pull off.
You need to have that steering gearbox rebuilt to eliminate that pull to one side. Trust me on this.
The booger welds on that engine hoist are something to behold
Freiburger and dulcich are hot rod royalty!
Great episode!
This is exactly what I plan to do on my 71 duster with the slant 6. Just saving money for parts now.
Always leave the top bolt out, love it
That looks like the beginning of a really cool sleeper.
Yes but Dusters aren’t sleepers by any means.
Excellent real world build.
Glad you chose 360. Plenty of tire frying torque!
At least it not a 318
Pretty amazing how he can sit cross legged like that.
Love this build
I never really watched the show until the last several months. I was just never into it but it's grown on me.
Steve knows how cool an "A" body can be so put in a 340 + .030 and a 4in crank in one!
Reminds me of the old days wrenching on cars and modifying them to take more abuse, then go beat on them, and street race.... Love those times, and still doing it 40 years later!
I love the roadkill videos keep up with the content.

They put a new 1 legger diff in the car! Crazy
That motor and trans looks cleaner than my 'cleaned' parts. 😂
Roadkill is awesome.

I’m having flashbacks to my brother’s 74 383 Duster. Direct-Connect K-member and an engine and exhaust that just didn’t want to fit.

I a planning on doing a 440 stroked to 513 A body. Love it.
This is exactly what I want to do to my 72 Demon swap from automatic to manual 4 on the floor
I'm putting a 408, a regular 18 spline 833, and a 3.55 8.75 in a 76 318, o.d. 4 speed, 8.25" Duster.

Carona and I like! Way to go Dulcich!
Nice job on the car
Nice speaker wiring job.
i wish i could work with them and learn about cars..... I really really love everything with an engine even if it doesnt runs
Ya know, if only you and @ViceGripGarage could race'em. Tho his is a give away.
When pops retired from military action and got a job with circle k he had a few dusters and demons that were pretty snazzy .
Sure miss my 1972 Duster!
Entertaining as usual. Thanks!

Welch plugs are slightly different to some core plugs but essentially the same thing. Invented by the Welch car company.
I love that car!😅
My dream car, I wouldn't change a thing, except maybe some mufflers.
just watched birdsong install your floorpan!
I wish they would pick a beat old car make and model that I care about to bring back to life.
Should have left the manual steering gear box in. You could have just left the power steering pump on and block of the ports until you find an idler pulley
First time I have ever seen Dulcich look that uncomfortable or worried
I live in South Dakota.... the frost plugs will pop out before the block cracks. My 74 Buick Century did it.
I've seen bigger skid marks in my brothers undies. Lol. Jj. Love the show 🤘
I had a 96 s10 4cyl that froze up and popped out the freeze plug in the back of the engine. I had to pull the trans and flywheel to replace it. It was a pain but it wasn't cracked. Got lucky😂
Looks like me opening a can of beans .
Love that car
Woo, Chris Birdsong.
My dream is for Roadkill Garage to do an engine swap on my 66 Dart that currently has a 225 slant with an od transmission.
I would take that rearend you took out so fast but you are promoting change so carry on
My 68 302 froze & popped a core plug. No block damage
Don't get lazy on us. we come for the pressure washing and lipstick on the pig. That's half the fun
Someone needs to tell Dulcich that he doesn’t need hair from 1970 to work on a car from the same year.

Can you do something on dry dump oil systems though expensive but the performance an longevity is nice thanks Dave an Steve .happy holidays an be safe
