I grew up in the 90s - early 2000's punk/post-punk hardcore scene. I remember having the spiked hair, studded belt, chained wallet, and baggy oversized jeans/shorts with a band T. At some point , I saw so many people dressed like me that I realized any trendy wanker can dress punk rock and that many of the most punk rock people I knew gave little thought to their appearance. I also saw the same thing with the hard partying lifestyle. Some of the coolest people I met at the time didn't drink much and stayed out of the drug scene. At that point I started to notice a type of conformity in the supposedly "non-conformist/counterculture" punk rock scene. The whole point of dressing a certain way, drinking, doing drugs, having a certain view of politics, and religion started to become a prerequisite to being part of the scene. There is nothing punk rock about that. I had friends that spanned the political spectrum, some religious, some agnostic/athiest, white collar, blue collar and we all got along fine. I saw a lot of bands/scenes start to embrace the far left and push out those that did not agree. I hate fascism but I also hate Marxism/Communism... both are anti-freedom and have resulted in millions of deaths. It would be cool to see the scene get back to its roots of despising all politicians and having all the various subgeneras of punk bands playing under the same roof.
Yeah this is spot on I can’t listen to most the bands that influenced me to start playing music myself. Trust in the Father that’s all we can do get rid of all the parasitic politicians they’re not going to save anyone.
It’s strange, I’m from another country and much younger than you, but I think exactly the same! To be a non-comformist now is to be an intelligent and caring Christian. This is the new punk.
@@salvationandstuff The government hated him, the church hated him, he only had about a dozen friends. One of his closest friends screwed him over and others denied they even knew him at all. Then before he died he got the shit beat out of him! He was like G.G. Allin without the feces throwing. So, I don't know, was he punk rock? You tell me.
Their old rebellion and anti-establishment attitude became the authority and the norm, to be conservative is to be truly anti-establishment and punk attitude, today. It is ridiculous to see Tom Morello speak as an anti-system and revolutionary against the machine, when in reality his speech is totally part of the machine and obedient to the current system.

For sure! I haven't heard what he's been saying for some time now, but if it is the same as it was when he was in Rage, it's sad and ironic times....
