Everything about this was on point. The tiny facial expression shift into the music into him going down the elevator looking angry...art!

If even Patrick Stewart can't fix Star Trek, who can? Oh wait, yes, Seth MacFarlane. The Orville is much better and true to TNG.
Edit: Let me rephrase it a bit more. The Orville is much more the social commentary of our problems we face here in 2020. But then presented in this fictional universe, in such a way we can look at our problems of today from a different perspective and get better insights to handle them. That's what Star Trek is all about. The Orville does this very well, even better than TNG. Picard, can and should do much better...
Star Trek also shows us how we could be and be the best version of ourselves. Teasing androids, cursing for no good reason in a high position of respect, ruins this advanced culture that was set in Star Trek. It's just our modern day culture, but then in space. Not really thought provoking.

There's nothing to "fix". It's just a different show. Grow up.

If our culture was still acting the way we do now, we'd have never gone into space.

I think the darker tone of the show is a good reflection of the worries of today. Most Star Trek shows happened in the post-Cold War, pre-9/11 high of the 1990s. Therefore, they might have reflected the optimism of the day. Modern Trek was made in a time after 9/11, the various wars in the Middle East, the 2008 financial crisis, fears over global warming, gun violence, economic inequality, and even a renewal of certain Cold War tensions. It's showed us that perhaps utopia is a bit too much to hope for, and that even if we could create one, it would only be temporary. The darker tone of Picard is realism, pure and simple.

No it isn't. The Orville is a show that lets people like you continue to laugh at minorities while pretending to be enlightened and woke. It doesn't challenge you or ask you to be better or call you out. It makes the same shitty jokes that Seth Mcfarlane always makes, just with a heightened air of pretentiousness that lets you pretend there's some deeper meaning behind it, and THAT is why people like you love it so much. Discovery and Picard are NOT perfect. There's a lot of legitimate flaws and there's a lot of shit they really should have done differently. But if you think the Orville has been giving you good social commentary - you need to look elsewhere.

its sad maybe im wrong but watching him act i get the feeling he might not know what he is doing and is somehow being fooled into doing this show he just seams so lost leave it be this show mocks him star trek was always one of the most progressive shows out there Martian Luther king himself praised it for having a black woman and the most diverse cast of its time next gen had an episode ware the woman are in change and the men are 2nd class its about overcoming these things how we should be star trek had the first female captain lead show i can think of anyways its never had to resort to bashing anyone deep space 9 has a black man in charge running the station smart well respected by his peers as it does not put down anyone it seeks to lift us all up it shows what we could be and should be equals its suppose to inspire us and give us hopes and dreams of a better future this show has none of that in fact it mocks it then kills everyone brutally so we know its mocking us this is pathetic what they have done and insults us all
