  • After retired professional hitman John Wick loses his wife Helen to a terminal illness, he receives a beagle puppy named Daisy from her to help him cope with his grief. Despite John's stoic demeanor, he bonds with the puppy and they spend their day driving around in his vintage 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1. At a gas station, he encounters a trio of Russian gangsters whose leader Iosef insists on buying his car, which John refuses to sell. That evening the gangsters break into John's home, knock him unconscious, steal his car, and kill Daisy.
Iosef takes the Mustang to a chop shop to have the VIN changed. Aurelio, the shop's owner, deduces that the car was stolen from John. He punches Iosef and throws him out. Aurelio was visited by John, who identifies Iosef as the son of Viggo Tarasov, the head of the Russian crime syndicate in New York City. Aurelio relays Iosef's activities to Viggo, who beats and berates Iosef before explaining to him who John Wick is: a famed assassin, formerly in Viggo's employ, nicknamed "Baba Yaga". When John wanted to retire and marry Helen, Viggo gave him an "impossible task," implied to involve multiple high level assassinations in a short period of time. John succeeded, and his efforts were key in establishing the Tarasov syndicate. After warning Iosef of his impending doom, Viggo tries to talk John out of seeking retribution, but John refuses to even talk. Viggo sends a team of hitmen to John's house, but John kills all of them and enlists an underworld cleaning service to dispose of the bodies and evidence.
Unsurprised, Viggo places a $2 million bounty on John's head and personally offers the contract to John's mentor, Marcus, who accepts. John seeks assistance from the New York Continental Hotel, which caters exclusively to the criminal underworld and permits no assassinations on its premises. Viggo doubles the bounty for those willing to break this rule to kill John. Winston, the Continental's manager, informs John that Viggo has Iosef under guard at his nightclub, the Red Circle. John enters the Red Circle and kills a horde of thugs to reach Iosef, who narrowly escapes after Viggo's lieutenant Kirill manages to incapacitate John. John retreats to the Continental to have his injuries treated. Ms. Perkins, an assassin and former acquaintance, sneaks into John's room to kill him. Marcus alerts John, allowing him to subdue Perkins, who is forced to reveal the location of Viggo's front. He knocks her unconscious and leaves her with Harry, a fellow assassin, to await punishment, but she frees herself and kills Harry. John travels to a church in Little Russia which serves as Viggo's front and destroys his cache of money and blackmail material. When Viggo and his henchmen arrive, John ambushes them, but he is subdued and captured. Viggo taunts John for thinking he would be able to leave his old life behind. Before John can be killed, Marcus intervenes again, allowing John to free himself, kill Kirill, and accost Viggo, who reveals Iosef's location. John then travels to Iosef's safe house and kills him and his bodyguards.
Perkins learns that John and Marcus have been in contact and informs Viggo, who has Marcus beaten and tortured before executing him in his home. Viggo calls John to report this, planning to have Perkins ambush him. While waiting for John, Perkins is summoned to a meeting with Winston, who orders her executed for killing Harry on Continental grounds. Winston calls John to inform him that Viggo is planning to escape by helicopter. John races to New York Harbor, where he kills Viggo's remaining henchmen before fighting Viggo on the dock. Viggo pulls out a knife, and John allows himself to be stabbed, then disarms and fatally wounds Viggo. John breaks into an animal clinic to treat his wounds and releases a pit bull puppy scheduled to be euthanized. John and the dog walk home along the boardwalk where he had his final date with Helen.

Other way around, I think. Iosef is the boss' son and theoretically the future boss, Aurelio just runs one small part of the company. Iosef is way higher on the totem pole than Aurelio.
But Iosef is also the new guy, who may have more authority in theory but doesn't know what the hell he's doing yet. Whereas Aurelio is that employee who's been with the company forever and is really good at his job, so even the CEO sits up and listens when he talks.

The thing i like the most is aurelio's position.
      - Works for Viggo
      - John trust him with a drink and sits with him despite being on revenge mode
      - Probably gave Theon a little more time before dying by making him leave
      - Punches Theon knowing full well that, John Wick or not, Viggo could still make him pay.
      - Cooperates with John as soon as he comes in
      - Has an unspoken understanding with Viggo that punching his son didn't even matter, and asking for apologies would be a waste of time at this point.
I don't like action movies in general but the mythos they build around John and how the characters interact with him is so great. Jimmy the cop, waste disposal guy, Aurelio, Francis, the hotel host, the barmaid, and that old great actor that i always forget the name.

Even if it wasn't Wick, Iosef was gonna be finished within years of taking over the reins anyway, the way he carried himself.

Or like a paltry sum of cash or something. Society demands that he take “retribution” for his son but the circumstances are such that actually harming Aurelio for it would be completely uncalled for.
I’d also love to see the alternate universe where John got up to use the bathroom just before Iosef broke in and so isn’t caught by surprise. One fight later the three idiots are on the floor. He ties them up, puts him in his basement, checks their IDs and sees they’re connected to Viggo, and gives Viggo a call.

While I do like all of the John Wick movies, they really started to go too over the top after the second one. The first two felt grounded with a bit of mystery surrounding this society of assassins that you were really invested in, especially the first film. There was loads of action for sure, but there was also character development like the famous speech Vigo gives about John and why he is so terrifying. We stopped getting that in 3 and 4 and I think it was to the franchise's detriment. The action is great in all of them, but you can really feel how much they were trying to one-up the last movie and doing so didn't really benefit the films. While I'm glad I watched the other three in the series, I do think John Wick would have been a much more potent film as a stand-alone instead of becoming a franchise.

I appreciate Keanu is getting older and might not be physically able to do the more demanding stuff that doesn't go into stuntman territory, but I wish they'd gone a different route. Constantly using the armored suit as a crutch felt like it was taking away from his ability as a master assassin and gun fighter. I still enjoyed the movie, but that facet of it really kind of stuck out for me. In the first movie it really showed how why he was so revered in his circles while still allowing him to not be 100% perfect. I really don't think any of the other three movies were able to top it.

Then after telling Iosef about the dude. The kid is stupid enough to think he can take him. Hence the line, "Did he hear a fucking word I said?". Viggo gives him the biggest hug because he knows it will be the last time he may ever see him again while letting g him know just how much he screwed up and that Iosef will surely die

See I don’t even think Viggo is a villain. He’s a father trying to protect his son against immeasurable odds. Basically he’s between a rock and a hard place. The villain in this movie is his son.

Here’s a little tidbit of trivia that people may not know in reference to this scene. John Leguizamo auditioned twice for the role of Aurelio and finally got it despite the fact that he is a brain dead communist idiot leftist POS.

I just noticed the posture and throat clearing at 3:23. It is like he is staying late at the garage knowing that either a phone call or a visit would happen after hours. Now the phone rings, he knows who is on the other end of the line, and braces himself.
    That is great acting.

Aurelio seems like the type of guy to be such a badass. He’s definitely a good friend to John. I’m glad he hit him because he deserves that for killing John’s dog. That’s Karma. And he’s even a badass when that guys pulls a gun on him in his store. “COME ON! Now, you either kill me right now, or you get the fu** outta my shop!” That’s so badass

Regarding the punch, that is acceptable. Yosef had no remorse or care for his actions, and was proud of it, but he has a problem with getting punched. That's what he gets for being selfish, arrogant, and a jerk.
