Gosh, I have soooo many great memories of the Allman Brothers Band. I was raised in Jacksonville, FL in the 70's and graduated from Englewood High School in 1980. I went to the Sunshine Jam in 1976 (I think...I'm 61 now..yikes) in the Gator Bowl. The reefer was plentiful that day and at 14 years old my memory of that long hot day is not so good..heeheehee. I just remember dancing my way to the stage to do what I still call "shake my booty dancing" to be close to the speakers for the Allman Brothers Band music. Gosh, as I type this comment I'm listening to a TH-cam 58 minute live video and just singing my heart out. And YES, I am up shaking my booty albeit not high..lol.
My boyfriend took to see a freaking awesome Allman Brothers Cover Band a few months ago at a small venue in Jacksonville. Their name is Steelin Peaches. I felt like I was 14 again. The band was soooo good. Two drummers, two guitar players, a large bongo type instrument, keyboardist, etc. Their music, their voice, their stage presence took me back 47 years!!!!! Steelin Peaches travels all over Florida, Georgia, Alabama. If you love the Allman Brothers Band, you'll LOVE Steelin Peaches. They do not know I'm writing this. I'm just an ole' Southern Rock girl. Play on ABB in heaven and I'll be up front shaking my booty when I get there xoxoxox

I saw The Allman Brothers in August 98. Dickey Betts and Jack Pearson were on guitars and to this day that concert is the greatest musical experience of my life. People talk about seeing The Grateful Dead with Jerry Garcia. That's how I feel about seeing The Allman Brothers with Dickey Betts.

Most people wouldn't think so. But the Allman Brothers double album compilations make for Great work out music in the home gym (basement). Just plug into either 1970's "The Road Goes on Forever" or 1971's "Filmore East - Live." I do the exercise bike with Headphones and try my hardest to emmulate Gregg's deep and rich blues vocals. It is often said, "If you want to introduce someone who has never heard this iconic band, turn them onto the Filmore East - Live album.

Man this never gets old to me I could listen these cats all day everyday my heart truly is joyous whem I hear them. I remeber when a family memeber turned me on to the Bros he hands me this cassette of the Philmore East tape an obvious bootleg from the concert could hear people having good time and it was obvious the tape has been copied a bunch of times the quality wasnt all that great. But turn that baby up all the way. Morandi told me the story that him and a friend ditch school this one day, trippen on somwthing they took the trolly into NYC from Queens flying high. He said they went Central Park to find some chicks to hang with and they could hear this acoustic guitar music and singing. They xould not find out were this music was coming from it sounded like it was from every were at the same time. He said they walked most of the park trying find the source of this amazing music. They finnaly find a bunch of people standing by the pond area central to the park, Duu. He said its was the Allman Brothers he was 17 at the time when this happened. I was totaly aw struck picturing this, he finished saying who ever the leader was of the band said they were playing The Philmore East the next night and invited everyone to come down. At the time he had no idea who they were. Later of course found out who they were ect after hearing that and holding this old recopied tape numerous times, I was right there in that story on the way home back to Jersey that night listening to the band that has been the best well for sure one of the best I say that because he also turnes me onto SRV my buddy Lou gave me my biggest source of joy the LEGENDS that I just cant stop listening to like I am that 17 year old kid he was back then

Betts is overplaying in the song. He should give more space to the vocalist. Two drummers= overpowering. Annoyingly so. No finesse. Not delicate. Perhaps the heroin addicts and drunks like it this way. A dizzying maize of loud noise. Betts plays the same licks almost every song. He should woodshed more and come up with new stuff.

I had the privilege of seeing Greg's band with Dangerous Dan in Providence RI in '87, the sole guitarist in the band, nailing every part of those classic ABB numbers and giving it everything he had. When he played with Dickey in ABB or GS, he showed the restraint any good player would under those circumstances (you aren't there to make it a contest or show anybody up, you are there to give the songs the energy and carry your share of the load). He had to deal with constant comparisons, but in all fairness - the market had changed and the band had changed. His job was not an easy one, but he *always* displayed both class & talent. What other people think about his level of ability is total BS...if he was not the right guy for the job, he would not have been there. Lots of guys (name players included) would have *loved* that job, but Dickey and Greg knew what they wanted and found it in Dan. His affiliation with them lasted quite some time, and that's because he was able to carry on the tradition. Just watching the videos of his term with ABB, the crowds always cheered after he plays a solo - so, mission accomplished.

Hazor777: there's an earlier Dickie and Dan Homer ABB ! concert circa. 1979 posted on TH-cam, with Bonnie Delaney playing tambourine and singing awful harmony, plus an unexpected appearance of a Blues Brother.
A much more sober Gregg with Dickie playing superb but at his most aggressive. Many commenting on how great a show this is. One saying you should go into rehab after watching, however. I see his point
Now here's this so-called reunion of ABB 7 years later (I suppose there was one of their famous splits in the intervening years?). I cannot say enough how much more beautiful Liz Reed and Jessica sound here despite Dickey's rumored to be also captured by substance abuse. It certainly is not in evidence in this masterful, controlled performance.
Why so much better than the earlier concert? I've listened to both several times back to back, and feel certain that the civilizing influence is Chuck Leavell. Yes Liz Reed goes places Dickie hasn't seemed to take her before, but this is absolutely classic Jessica. Leavell is the leader of the pack here, imo.??

@@yvonnelaurenty6427 - think I've watched a bit of that - Ill go back . My guess the great performance here , is agreed: Leavell probably inspired/drove/pushed them to focus more...??? Usually happens after a band has hiatus , post success. Also, I remember seeing a quote from Betts, saying he was really happy SRV brought Blues back to the marketplace , which would've been 2 yrs prior to this show. So, maybe they were all jazzed there was renewed interest into Blues/Jam based music. I certainly remember SRV coming on the scene in 1984, via MTV - he was a very noticeable contrast to what they were playing at the time. Then again, this was the "Heyday" of real Rock N Roll music .

just the most beautiful version of Liz Reed in the entire ABB repertoire. There's another notable one with Warren Haines in a Gainesville, Fla. 1995 concert in which Warren catches fire and does a gorgeous, long solo (virtually carries it away from Dickey). But this one in which Chuck Leavell and the tightest of percussion (hear those lovely rhythm guitars wailing in the background) seem to lay down just the perfect vibe for Dickey's ensuing solo -- everything just works, tempo and all, for a classic rendition of the beautiful Liz Reed. Anyone out there agree?

I had the pleasure of meeting Dan when he was playing with Great Southern at the Oakdale in CT. We sat on the bus and smoked a joint. Great fun guy with no bad words to say about anyone. I had him sign my copy of "Before the Bullets Fly" and told him how much I loved the album.

Holy smokes . . . fantastic performance! It's really interesting to look at their videos over the years and see the changes in appearance and personnel, even in music (hello, Into the Mystic!), with the consistency in top-notch musicianship throughout. That said, does anyone at TH-cam realize just how off-putting it is to be listening to one of these great videos and rocking out to the incredible music only for some dumbass ad to be dropped right into the middle of a song? PUT THEM IN BETWEEN THE SONGS, YOU KNUCKLEHEADS!

Perfection. Such a great, tight lineup playing all those wonderful ABB standards. What a concert. So glad it lives here on TH-cam. Chuck Leavell, that precision percussion, and Greg knocking it out despite his obvious state; and Dan Toler fitting Dickey like a glove. Speaking of which, you can't take the country and blues out of that man -- whose developed sophistication thankfully gave us Liz Reed, High Falls, Les Brers. Can't be beat for his powerful harmonies, lyricism, and rhythmic sense. Pure talent. Wish I could have been there bobbing in the ailes to Blue Sky and Jessica. And can words express the sublime moments of the back-to-back solos of Leavell and Betts that close out Liz Reed here? Jesus! My all time favorite guitarist and concert post.
