I also saw the Allman Brothers 5 times. Unfortunately, I didn't see them before Duane and Berry died. They were the tightest band that I ever saw play. Even with changes in guitarist, their playing was so strong. Also Gregg had one of the best voices. He really could sing the blues. He was such a talented person. I miss the Allman Brothers. There will never be another band like them.
Totally Agree ,i think exactly You Say,thanks for put it in words
Give the Allman Betts Band some time to grow into their boots.
Betts...one of the greatest guitarists of all time!
Oh Derrick got to be so good because he was playing with such greatness!
So good they fired him by fax six months later. Such a bad move by Butch and Gregg. RIP Dickey. If it wasn’t for you, the ABB wouldn’t have survived the death of the great Duane Allman.
@@howardmertz6491 He CLEARLY looks wasted in this performance, there's no denying that
Without a doubt! X1000
Amazing. Derek looking so innocent and sometimes even a little unsure. It looks like he's still focused on remembering the songs but listening, he's sounding like he's already got it mastered. TOP 5 Guitarist to me.
Needs to shine a smile once every now and then! Be Happy!
Ah! Someone who's willing to include the greatness of "young Derek". Hell he knew those songs by age 7... and look at him "and" his wife now. "Stràt"
Derek is amazing. Greg Allman 10ft away with Dicky Betts on the other side....yikes. Though it didn’t affect his playing, its obvious Derek is nervous. What's really beautiful is how Oteil regularly checks in with Derek with a big smile of support like, "dude, we got this, we're having fun..." If the joy Oteil radiates while playing could be bottled, I have a bottle with me at all times lol.
That’s how he still looks haha
I don’t think he’s unsure that’s just his normal look. If you watch closely, he is killing it.
September 18,1971 Dayton, Ohio…Hara Arena I was lucky enough to have a best friend wanting to pull me off the Grand Funk RailRoad train met AllBros. sound man Mike Callahan at the airport and he invited us to the sound check and gave us free tickets to the show….Duane and Dickey were unbelievable as was the double drummers Butchie and Jaimoe….Berry Oakley on LEAD bass…and that soulful southern blues singin’ brother Gregory Lenoir Allman… my life changed musically that night which caused a slowed down Laid Back version of me….since I’m the only one of me southern music has ruled my life….hell I’ll let ya in on a little secret…..
MUSIC RULES THE WORLD
I was almost 3 years old when you went to that show but I’ve played guitar for 25 years and I couldn’t imagine almost every second of my day without music. Thank God for Hendrix, Dickie Betts, and my hero Tony Rice!
My wife and I were in the front row right between Dickie and Derek. Only time I' ever been in the front row. The band was on, I got a kick out of how Derek looked to Dickie for cues. Derek's talent shined through!!!!
They sound great.....my all time favorite band .... I'm old enough to have seen Duane play three times before he passed....my inspiration to learn how to play guitar..... Dickie is on tonight.....sure miss these boys
Derek only 20 years in that video. My god! Such talented guy since a kid!! Dickey is the fucking' king. It's not an easy task being such brilliant frontman with the guitar
Wow, Derek+Dicky+Oteil - very cool transitional period
Oteil sucks

😂😂😂😂
Dickey is such a brilliant songwriter and composer. This is a fantastic display of the best band to ever grace the airwaves.
Oh no. Led Zeppelin is the greatest band ever.
@@00z85 Led Zeppelin was certainly a great band but they were short-lived due to Jimmy’s flirting with Satan. The band was cursed and tragedy was the price he paid for making a deal with the devil. Listen to the Allman Brothers “Live at the Fillmore East” record and you’ll understand the power and creativity of this legendary band.
@@00z85 You’re silly
Using the absolutes "best, greatest, most, this or that" applied to what might be the most subjective human creation of talent certainly can't ever be correct, but highlighting the facets of your favorites is the better path, and certainly the Allman Brothers Band,in all its forms can help your fellow music fans, and musicians share in all the excitement and soul-deep feelings the artists bring to you...

I think Dickey's on top of it here. I guess he was headed for a darker time. Happy almost 80th birthday Dickey Betts!
so good ! this is why youtube is awesome, sometimes you find gold, and i think it just found some gold right here!
Thanks for uploading!
This was Derek’s 1st year with the Allman Brothers Band . Figured I’d let y’all know that 😅🍑🍄✌️❤️🎵🎶🎼🔥🔥🔥🔥
I remember seeing Derek play with the boys as a guest going back to 91 maybe. So happy for him now. .
I never knew Derek and Dickey ever played together, did Warren take a break? I think he and Woody were making Gov't Mule.
@@maxpuppy96 yes, Warren went out around 96 or 97 to do Mule full time. He was replaced back Jack Pearson for a few year and then Derek.
Some additional history; Dickey was fired from the band in 2000 for his drinking issues and controlling tendencies and was replaced by Jimmy Herring to complete their scheduled summer tour. Warren rejoined the band in 2001 until it’s end.

I went to the concert when he was fired,it was in Philly. I was pissed off but I understand. They had the guitar player from Tom Petty’s band Mike Campbell
👍 thanks for letting us know 😊

CONSERT Fanatic Nice SHOW , COOL ERA ,,love the Dickey /Derek pair . Thks . wait he just said , been to georgia , fast train . it just got better !
What a find, this very brief time they spent as a band with Dickey and Derek could very well be their best. All the instruments come through with clarity here, awesome thanks
I hope this is the soundtrack in Heaven.... 'cause I can listen to it for ever.
Love it how "Mountain Jam" is never played the same twice. A true "Jam" instrumental
This is one of the better shows I've heard from this tour. 99 had its ups and downs but this show is a glimpse of what they were capable when Dickey was on
I saw saratoga show 99. Dickey was smoking good. I understand them not being able to deal with him anymore, but saying they had to kick him to the curb due to his playing was straight bs
I’ve seen every guitar player for them except Duane😔Now Dangerous Dan Toler is probably the most underrated guitar player out there, just loved him🤟🏻
Derek trucks is so amazing!
miss seeing the allman brothers every summer . highly frustrated that i didn't see them with dickey. first ntime i got around to see them was 2000 with jimmy herring filling in
Man, I love Jimmy Herring what a player
Great seeing Dickie playing a Stratocaster !
What a gem, just found this!!!
This show brought me back where it all began. I was watching it with my wife and just got interested again (I saw them in Boston a few times in the early '70s). Since, I saw the Brothers several times (Red Rocks), Dickey Betts' band, Derek Trucks Band, Tedeschi-Trucks, Susan Tedeschi's band, Gv't Mule, and Gregg Allman and Warren Haynes duo onstage (Red Rocks) and even Scraple. I love these people. Thankfully, they seem to love Colorado.
I live in Kentucky and went to Colorado on vacation in 2003 for the first time, and I was absolutely mesmerized and blown away. And this is after having lived in California back in the 90s. I told my girlfriend I needed to buy a thesaurus because I was running out of superlatives. Love your state!
2 guitarist double drummer just brutal band to describe the Allman's music
Wow three drummers....sweet solo whole show is amazing!!!
Who are the 3 morons that voted thumbs down on this concert? I've seen the Allman Bros Band 5 times and Greg Allman 2 times as a solo act. I've also seen Dickey Betts & Great Southern as well. The Allman Bros Band is one of the best bands in Rock & Roll history. Thanks for posting this show. It brought back a lot of great memories.
Fantabulous. Best damn band in the land. Thanks.
The best white blues singer that' ever was.!!!!!Gregg allman!!!!!!!!
Derek’s solo in dreams is 🔥🔥🔥
God bless Dickey Betts. May he rest in peace.
Excellent!
Greaaat playiiiiiing!!!!!!!
This is such a great performance. I had to work that night or I would've been there. I now know that was a bad decision to not see this iteration of this band. This Franklin's Tower/ Blue Sky jam thing is incredible. I know this jam has appeared in several other shows, but this one is gold!
fantastic playing by Dickey. and for Derek, amazing how he blends into the unit so easily. sounds like he's been there for decades.
thay cuz he can play !
Derek was in the band for 15 years ! Unbelievable! Awesome!
Thank goodness for recordings. Wow.
I was born and raised in Monroe County, the county just to the north of Macon and Bibb County. I remember like it was yesterday slipping past my bad arse, hippie hatin' ole man on blazing hot Sunday afternoons in July of 1969 and 1970 to go down to Macon to see the Brothers in Central City Park gratis. I was 15 and 16 years old. I got to see the very best first and everything following has been a comedown. There's not a day that goes by when I don't think about those intensely carefree times.
Love it all... LP please Mr. D
the true gravity opener was nice. being an 80s kid, the seven turns record was my intro to the ABB.
TFW a video of a concert you attended in real life shows up in your feed.
This was a awesome show to see. Thank you for posting it.
Love the Franklin's Tower jam before Blue Sky.
I was there!
Lucinda Williams was the opener.
Great stuff! Thanks for the upload.
I believe rusted root opened.
First music i saw since Garcia passed.
Never forget it!!!!
Maybe 95
Was this right after Jack Pearson’s departure due to tinnitus? Man, could you imagine if all three (Dickie, Jack and Derek) had been on stage at the same time?? Lawd….✌🏻
OONA ....We All Love You 🇻🇪!!!
Such a Masterful Band ! 🔥 ❤️🔥
I think I was here - and it is a treat to hear Dickey on the strat every now and then.
RIP Dickie.

Whoa, Oteil at 2:11:48 ish just went nuts. Amazing!! I've never seen anything like that before except when I was a kid and would get really frustrated learning to play guitar I might do something similar. But my outburst was from frustration, Oteil's was from creativity.
Liked & sub! Miss SkyDog!
¡muy buenos!
los escuche en T°s de los 70/ 80 musica and yerba soñando con la paz.
Dickey Betts playin an effing Strat? Thanks to Derek with his SG61 Standard.
GreatestBand of all times together with Little Feat and Blood Sweat & Tears.
THANKS FOR SHARING ✌️
Dickie playing a Strat!
Jack Pearson played a G&L Strat lot and Dickey started playing Strats some to. Derek replaced Jack. Guess Dickey took to them. A lighter guitar and single coils probably a pleasant change from a Les Paul after decades. I'd bet Dickey's is a real vintage 50's Strat.
BEST F-CKING BAND EVER! EVER!!!
Fingerpicking and bottlenecking a SG : never seen before , I guess ... Sounds fabulously great !
Love Betts!! Fun to watch too..his little bounce while he's just jammin
très bon ! quelquefois cela fait penser à Santana...

Me too !
Dickey is God!
1:13 sounds like jerry! 🎉
Dickey plays well here.
I have a little different take on Dickeys playing. He often out of time and sync with band.
Nah, the band is out of sync with him if anything.
Interesting, since I hadn't realized that there was a period when Derek and Dickie were there together...
I was here. From Doylestown
I believe rusted root opened
An interesting show. Dickey clearly enjoying himself after making warren and allen quit. Derek possibly a little unsure of himself but I suspect he was being careful not to step on Dickey's toes.
Good observation, in agreement.
Warren and Woody quit because they wanted to.
I know that Dickey was surely and not the nicest person to be around but at this show he was playing and singing well and although a few months later he was a bit disoriented and playing badly I think they could have handled his suspension better. A band meeting in person at his house would have been better with Gregg saying his personal sobriety was very important to his well being and that they were going to go out with guest guitarists while he cleaned up his act so he didn’t have to leave in the middle of a tour as he had to previously but instead sent him a FAX which sucks. Ive been fired from bands myself and it sucks. The band without Dickey wasn’t a tribute band like the current Skynyrd but it was no longer the ABB without him in my opinion.
The whole thing is really tragic. IMO, Dickey had lots of unresolved deep anger … so to have a meeting might have resulted in his getting violent, which Gregg would not have wanted to deal with. Heard in the end he got a good financial settlement and is still drinking away.
yes the last few videos I saw of Dickey playing onstage were tragic. I realize he's 80 now but my mom is 91 and still driving a porsche boxster. there's an interview of kenny vaughn talking about touring with the abb in 1998 when jack was in the band and Dickey at that point was being a pain in the ass and alienating everyone. I still think the original band was the greatest american band of all time up there with "the band" circa 1970.@@wasabiginger6993
Dickey wasn't about to quit his drinking and such, and didn't think he should. He went on playing and singing, and I never saw another ABB show.
How could it be?
Georgia on a Fast Train, woooow
V.i.p..lounge farrer street.. Ashley legge
....is this the ('54?) Strat that Dickey gave to Eddie Shaver, I wonder?
Someone just called to my attention the fact that DB seldom if ever used the wa pedal, he made the guitar do all the talking
😎✌️
😢it's weird seeing Greg sitting behind anything except a Hammond B3
This concert took place just eight months before Betts was kicked out of the band allegedly for the quality of his musicianship (among other things I guess). I don't see that being an issue based on this performance.. Nothing against Warren Haynes, but this should have been the go-forward lineup. Except that there is an obvious lack of chemistry between Betts and Derek. I didn't see Dicky make eye contact with Derek once during the set, despite the latter's efforts. Visual cues are an important part of performing as a group, especially between essentially two lead guitarists. On-stage communication can make the difference between playing together and making music.
I read in an Allman Brothers book that the band had to fire Dickie because he was coming late to practice, h was drunk a lot of times too. Also, he had his amp volume so high that other members of the band were having difficulty playing. He was a great guitarist, but I thought that the band should great too with Derek and Warren
Betts never kicked his drinking … read it was an extremely tough decision to fire him … you can see here he is drunk.
Like any good drunk with talent and reputation, Dickey probably felt and acted with a certain entitlement that Greg wasn't going to tolerate, as a band leader.
Greg saw what was possible for the band with the infusion of the new, young talent - he saw what they didn't do in the 80s and 90s. And he wasn't going to let that get compromised by somebody who wouldn't rehab - Greg had plenty of credibility and authority in that regard given his own struggles. He wasn't finna to take Dickeys bulls***
This was the year that got Dickey fired for being drunk. Looks pretty sober to me. Saw them in New Orleans that year...Dickey was sober then too. Just saying...
"Listen to the f***ing tapes, man!" ~Greg Allman~ on the phone to Dickey Betts.
That was the reporting at the time.
That said - Dickey looks pretty competent here, to me.
You can tell they were feelin no pain!
maybe... many musicians were clean ..having been through the* journey* not greg though he was hard core till the end..at least from info i gathered
Greg was clean & sober when he died. 19 times in rehab. He finally hired a private nurse (male) and got clean on his own.
Gregg and Dickey seem pretty sober here to me. Well Dickey more so in the first set.
Derek has to be the soul reincarnate of Skydog
Betts clearly looks pretty hammered during this performance. Only to be kicked out of the band shortly after for these performances.
Whos that on backing vocals on Seven Turns in addition to Gregory? Female?
It’s Marc Quinones the percussionist
Where's warren
On the road w Gov’t Mule tearing it up w/ Woody n Matt (and being thankful he’s not dealing w ABB lol).
