Had the pleasurer of meeting Warren in the mid 90's outside 'Toads place' in New Haven Ct. He had just finished playing there that night (It was their depute album) and I was walking out of the place, stepped on the the side walk and there he was staring right at me. He put his hand out and greeted me like an old friend and thanked me for coming. I told him I was a big fan! He smiled and said Thank you!..., A true Southern Gentleman. I'll never forget it .

That Allman Brothers 1990 album was right after I became a quadriplegic at 21yrs old. I listened to it regularly and it fed my musical itch. I started playing harp with a neckbar and composing with my old Mac. It led me to a lot of good times and mental healing with many a fun blues jam in my home and random bars. That album introduced my ear to Warren and I absolutely love Gov't Mule. Saw them live once right after 9/11. Security sucked but they were outstanding. Great interview as usual Rick.

Great interview! I went to high school with Warren and I remember him growing as a musician and quickly surpassing the local talent pool. He was the fixture at an event called “Monday Night Jam” at the Brass Tap in North Asheville NC in the early 80’s. Local talent would show up and play great music until the wee hours. Really special time in my life. Watching a legend develop into a master. Hats off to you Warren!

We saw him last year do Dark Side of the Mule at Red Rocks and it was crazy insane good. He broke out the firebird and brought the place down. Laser light show was the best since The Wall at Nassau Colluiseum with Floyd! Warren is fast becoming my mentor and my favorite to listen to. Tedeski Trucks too.

The classical teacher's name Warren couldn't recall was Jerry Young. Jerry started about every classical player in the Asheville area years ago. He was also a skilled Atkins player. He briefly taught Brian Sutton though even in high school Brian was so advanced Jerry didn't think he had much to offer him. Jerry sadly passed away several years ago. And that's the trivia that doesn't matter and no one cares about. 😊

Dude is an absolute LEGEND. Of all my favourite singer/guitarists, he's waaaaaaaay up near the top. His work with Mule and ABB is just incredible. What a privilege to hear him speak here, and he's looking GREAT these days. Lost a lot of weight over the last few years.

There wasn't a better band on the planet than 1994 & '95 Allman Brothers! If you're not hip to it, do yourself the favor and dig up those live shows. Just crackling with energy, spirit and unbridled force.

First time I saw Warren, he opened for the Allman Brothers with his solo band, then came and played the three plus hour Allman Brothers set. I have seen just about every thing he has done for thirty plus years. Got to meet him for my 50th birthday, i think he remembers something about every show he has ever played. A true Gentleman and world class musician

Met Warren and Woody along with Greg and the rest of the band a few times backstage at the beacon and radio city in the 90’s. Warren made my brothers and I feel so welcome and we were so humbled to speak with him. Extremely approachable and just an absolute juggernaut on guitar and an extremely underrated singer. One of a kind for sure.

It meant the world to me, and he’s and Mule have been a driving force with me since innocently buying “Dose” in 1998!
I’d do anything to open for Gov’t Mule one day, but just meeting Warren meant the world to me!
Thank you Rick for this interview!

It’s so awesome that I get to re-live that concert with that live album. Warren seems to be in good health but I’d advise you to see him as soon as possible. And then again. And then do it again. He’s one of the absolute best improviser guitarists that ever lived.

I was at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY a few years ago when Mule recorded their latest live album/dvd. They played 2 nights and I was at night 2. I forgot what song it was they started playing but something felt off. Warren kept looking off stage (I assume to his tech) and eventually walked off stage. They eventually stopped playing and Warren got on mic and said something like "Since we're recording this, we want to really kill this. We want to start over again if that's alright." They started over and absolutely crushed that song. I was a fan of Warren as a musician before that night but I became a huge fan of Warren the man after that night. Just a humble cat with a prodigious gift.

I’m from Macon, GA. I was born in October 1968 my mom and dad rented the lower level of an old house on Vineville ave., it was three houses from the “big”house that Allman Brothers stayed at. One day two of the Allman brothers band members asked my dad if they could borrow our picnic table because they were having a party. My dad said sure go ahead we still have a remnant of that picnic table. I’ve seen Warren play in Macon years ago At the cherry blossom festival great people. God Bless you! Psalms 23
