That's one good thing about TH-cam you can watch in Awesome video from 1970 in 2020 and appreciate The Allman Brothers Band when they were just beginning this is pure gold and will be cherished for years to come . God blessed these old videos that find their way to TH-cam
Duane's incredible gift for finding his place for the pitch he wanted no matter where on the neck he began a slide from was always uncanny. This video captures much of that magic. Quick stops, down, up vibrato, pitch and timing perfect dives - amazing stuff. Derek Trucks is the closest I've heard since, but Duane always sounded so spontaneous that you felt in in your spine.
Spontaneous is a fantastic way of describing his playing. It almost feels like a tightrope act all the way through one of his blistering slide solos in a way. In my opinion, Derek has truly taken Duane's ideas and approach to slide playing and taken them to an even higher level. Duane was playing it unlike anyone else back in his day, and Derek is now doing the same with this generation of music. Both are fantastic for numerous reasons.

Same here brother. Duane is my favorite all time but Dickey was the man. RIP I grew up on Allman Brothers, Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker, etc. By the time I was born(1988)this music was dead and gone.
Duane Allman is easily the greatest guitar player in history. Consider that Hendrix, Clapton, Page, and Beck were all attempting to recreate a world that Duane lived in. Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
When Bands Played Live. No Miming No Backing Tracks No Idiots Jumping Around The Band. Just Pure Music And Great Musicians. Very Few Bands Can Do This Today.
Oh, they missed a lot of notes -- not like I blame them. But when you listen to the complete Fillmore recordings, it's obvious why the versions for the original LP were chosen. For some reason there's a good handful of times Dickey Betts loses the downbeat in his solos. On an outtake of Hot 'Lanta, for instance, he somehow winds up a half-measure ahead of the rest of the band, and it really fucks everyone up.
This one is good but shortened due to the tv people being there recording it, The last show at the Fillmore East with the ALlman's was the one to see where they played for hours and hours.
I'll tell you this, no eternal reward will forgive us now for wasting the dawn. Dickie Betts was one of the best guitar players in the world & only because Dickie & Greg were both great song writers was probably the only reason the Allman Brothers were able to continue on & be successful. We all get old but it's sad when the people who provided us with the music that created the soundtrack of our lives get old & pass away & the Allman Brothers Band were a big part of my life as anybody & I wish them peace & love & togetherness for eternity in Heaven 🎸
Man duanes first solo in whipping post is epic. I wish he'd have stuck around longer. What an awesome group the Allman brothers were with Duane leading.
+Will Thacker when people at concerts other than Allman Bros used to shout out a request to what ever band was onstage for "Whipping Post" - this version could very well be the reason why - that was amazing right?

it is one of the biggest mistakes in rock live recording history lol Gregg was absent for the first half of it because some dude back in the day forgot to turn him up when the band started playing, which leaves us without the vocals by one of the all-time greats for half of this video. Unlike most kids my age who listen to one song from the 80’s and say they were born in the wrong generation, im just sad I wasn’t born in the 60’s to see the allman brothers work their magic. I grew up on allman brothers, Grateful Dead, fleetwood mac, tedeschi trucks, .38 special, and now, phish. I wish I could see all of these bands before most of them split up or died. I now play the guitar and are learning my childhood songs. Just turned 16 and miss every minute of 5-10 years old. Just some weird facts about me.
What are the odds that a fantastic guitar player and excellent singer/organ player came out of the same family to form a band like this? The studios (and studio musician) that first recorded them were blown away! I bought this album when it came out. It is still my benchmark for live recording experiences.
My older brother introduced me to their music in 1971. Duane Allman inspired many a high school kid back then to take up electric guitar and I'll never forget my brother's shock at Duane's untimely death.
I was shocked and so sad about Duane's death...It seemed that a little bit of everything died when he died. At 14:10 on this, the bass power and drums are awesome. Always listening.
I am deeply saddened by the terrible news. RIP to one of the greatest blues voices there ever was. My deepest condolences go out to his friends and family. Rest in peace Greg, you are gone but never forgotten.
There has never been anybody like Gregg Allman. Maybe a lot has to with his brother Duane pushing him in the beginning. Duane had a lot to do with it, but the talent came from Gregg. Don't let us forget the talent of Duane Allman. Rolling Stone magazine named him #2 in 2010 as the greatest guitarist, dead at age 24 from a motorcycle accident. So talented. So creative in ways we will never know. Let us not forget "Skydog".
Not really sure about all the various theories concerning an afterlife ---- but it is somewhat comforting to think of Dickey Betts joining Duane and Greg Allman, Berry Oakley and Butch Trucks to play together again. RIP Mr. Dickey Betts.

I really miss and am disappointed that the Duane Allman Archives was taken down . It had the best sounding remixes on TH-cam the other channel they put up were rare concert footage of them particularly the 1970 Atlanta Pop Festival and more extensive footage from Love Valley . That being said I’m glad you are still here. Good clean footage of the original band is rare and scarce and when something new and lengthier goes up it always gets taken down. Whoever owns the quality footage should consider releasing it in a documentary form that makes everyone happy . It makes no sense to let it sit in a box on a shelf in a climate controlled storeroom . The ABB Corporation should pull out the stops to see this material sees the light of day.

Slow hand was intimidated by him even!-Back then Clapton "was God". Layla man......
Same as Derek Trucks. Some symmetry huh? ✌
True True my man... I was piay lego blocks when was new 1970 (so lucky my oider bro bought albums & not just POP hits)
Watching this makes me want to cry. Gregg Allman's passing away today hurts my soul
my favorite all time American band. Fillmore East live best live album.
My all time favorite as well!
@@annettedarling4212 All these years since I heard it fresh on vinyl. Heart and soul.
Best album live or not....PERIOD!! ALSO...best band across all genres....of any bands out at that time. Live or recorded...they never failed to deliver and entertain. Amazingly synced musicians!! All of the band members...but in particular...the guitarists were unparralled!!
Duane's guitar playing is just unreal!!! What a talent he was!!
+Mc Ren True, Sky Dog's playing is at times simply spiritual, a prayer on six strings!
+Mc Ren he never even got to peak man that's what blows my mind
no truer words could be said! both he and Berry Oakley were magnifique! and I saw them in 1970, at the Spectrum, in Phila.
Every one says Dickey was underrated . Not how many notes you play in a minute or how loud it is doesn't make you better . Duane played from his HEART and SOUL !
He was better . But it's close .
Im going down the Allman Bros musical rabbit hole .Duane is the one I’m not yet familiar with (listening).
Greg is intriguing.Dickie (his stance and his stern demeanor)scare the $ out of me.
Duane-bc of your comment? Looking forward to listening to Duane.
Unbelievable. Saw them twice with Duane. I've seen so many groups live but these guys are by far the best in concert!
Duane might be the heart and soul of this band, but without Greg the legend would never continue... He is definitely the quintessential brother.
True. Best rock vocal and best rock guitar. And to go to No. 1 after Duane died showed straight up heart.
That's one good thing about TH-cam you can watch in Awesome video from 1970 in 2020 and appreciate The Allman Brothers Band when they were just beginning this is pure gold and will be cherished for years to come . God blessed these old videos that find their way to TH-cam
I'll say it again, Dickey Betts has never gotten the recognition he deserves so much for being a phenomenal guitar player!🍄🍑
The problem is that Dickey played in the same band as Duane Allman
Charlie daniels gave him a shoutout
Agreed ma'am
Dickey is da man
Bullshit
Three. Years. That's all these guys gave us. Imagine 25 years of this deliciousness.
David Zabel duanes fatal accident was no accident it was DEMONIC by design...the motorcycle was FLUNG into the air and landed ON TOP of poor duane ...he WAS wearing a helmet but the sheer force of impact broke the helmet open and it fell off...the evil nature of his crash and subsequent tragic death points squarely at demonic evil forces at work here...evil spirits DO NOT fuck around...they get right to it....I'm not blaming Mr. Allman....he tried to obey the traffic laws and he still got ripped apart...I'd love to see the remains of the helmet after the crash just to prove my point...I know non believers would say bullshit there's no such thing as demos or evil spirits it was just a sad tragic accident but something tells me it was more...and much worse ...than it seemed...rip duane and gregg....loved and missed...always....hope there are a lot of peach trees where u are now....
Nothing but ears & hands.
✌
As long as Audio and Visual recordings exist and we have the means to watch and hear them, Duane Allman will be immortal.
If this band and this lineup were not the best rock/blues band EVER, I really don't know who is. Completely amazing performance
They were and it is.
Absolutely!!!👍
By Far the Best !!!!!!!!
I'm drunk and they are the BEST !
ABSOLUTELY !!!!
Best band, and CCR.
The coolest, funkiest, original, talented, rock and roll band, that ever was.The Allman Brothers. Peace
Five-star rock and roll - there is nothing like this anymore - I was blessed to have been there.
Were you at this particular show, if you don't mind me asking?
Oh wow!!! You are so lucky!!! That must have been one hell of a great time!!! If only we could go back and do it again....
19:39 Dickey Bett`s great performance.
Seeing Skydog play is a gift all these years later. He gave so much in his short life.
RIP Gregg. Roll on, Blue Sky.
Dickey Betts is effortless in this, what an amazing stage of musicians.
incomparable; peerless music.
This always makes me happy. My generation. God bless these everlasting talented gifts.
When with Barry Oakley and Duane Allman, The Allman Brothers are solidly ranked in the top 5 of all time great bands.
Try number 1
They are a great band but I think The Beatles, Stones, Pink Floyd, the Who & Springsteen top them out, and I haven't even mentioned Dylan
"Whipping Post" compared to.....can anyone think of anything The Beatles did that even comes close? I'm struggling to come up with something.
Military Mom A day in the life is my favorite Beatle song but so many of their songs got played to death back in the day that what was classics such as Magical Mystery Tour, Hey Jude or Revolution became stale over time. Love Whipping Post snd love the Allman Bros but you would have to be a die hard to say they were in the same league, which is fine
HamiltonRb Hamilton RB...ok, fair enough so point taken. Happy New Year!
Dickey Betts is my favorite rock guitarist, and his song Blue Sky my all time favorite song. Such great guitar work. RIP Dickey Betts. 🎸
Same here brother. Duane is my favorite all time but Dickey was the man. RIP
I grew up on Allman Brothers, Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker, etc. By the time I was born(1988)this music was dead and gone.
I get an indescribable feeling when I hear Dwayne Allman play.
Very yes indeed!
Lotsa bands still do it, radio just dont care
RIP Duane.
RIP Berry.
RIP Butch.
RIP Gregg.

Totally killer. Duane is the greatest musician in history, a Mozart of his time.
One of the best blues players and a voice for the ages.. Rest easy Greg
These guys could play for five hours completely stoned and never miss a note
Oh, they missed a lot of notes -- not like I blame them. But when you listen to the complete Fillmore recordings, it's obvious why the versions for the original LP were chosen. For some reason there's a good handful of times Dickey Betts loses the downbeat in his solos. On an outtake of Hot 'Lanta, for instance, he somehow winds up a half-measure ahead of the rest of the band, and it really fucks everyone up.
That's Southern Baby ❤
America's greatest band
Rest in Peace Gregg. You will be dearly missed.
Rest in peace Greg abd Duane
@@carolemeador3257 And Barry and Butch.
When I build my time machine, I'm going back to see this show... live... tripping...
Save me a seat!
This one is good but shortened due to the tv people being there recording it, The last show at the Fillmore East with the ALlman's was the one to see where they played for hours and hours.
Gary Shunk That would be awesome if it was possible. I would definitely go 😊
Gary Shunk Can I come too?
Yes... yes you can..
❤
Very nice sentiments posted❤
The Brothers were unbelievable
Can't wait to get to heaven myself so I can listen to these guys again.
Every time I come on any of the old Allman Brothers, with Duane especially, I hit LIKE each time!
Maybe some did it for that reason but we did it because the band onstage couldn't play for shit and we were being assholes about it. Not nice but that's what happened.
When I build my time machine, I’m going back to Macon and slit that Harley rear tire. I miss the Original Allman Brothers. I listen to ABB every day.
I heard they both had Triumphs.
I listen to ABBA every day. 'Does Your Mother Know?'
Every time I ride by the spot he got killed in Macon tears come into my eyes. As an aspiring musician, his loss was unbearable.
Could you please go do something about young Donald T while you're at it?
If you go back in time with a time machine the time machine will cease to exist that is why every time one is built it disappears.
R.I.P Greg Allman. Your memory will live on through your music.
Oakley was certainly one of the greatest Bass players in Rock history.
Amen !
And underrated. A huge influence on anyone who has ever played the electric bass.
His son plays bass with Gregg and Dickey’s sons now. It’s fun to see them carrying on the legacy.
Don't forget Phil Leish
Lamar Williams
Duane and his guitar gave new meaning to the word "sweet". Miss ya, brother.
Now both brothers are immortal...thanks for the music, Gregg and Duane. Rest In Peace.
The Allman Brothers at the height of their powers. All original lineup in top form. Damn, I regret not being able to see them but when this concert was recorded I was not quite 12 years old. Timeless music that never ages. RIP to the lost boys but their music will never die.
Gave
Gregg a ride from
The mermaid to Jeff fishbone's home.; thought I was being punked!Gregg picked up Jeff's 12 string & played "Melissa"told him "whipping post" was my favorite
The Allman Brothers can uplift a bummer mood when you're down!!!
Every time I listen to Duan or Gregg playin' - It's like an hug of your best friend. This music is like sayin: "Don't bother bro, everything will be all right."
It's so fluent, streamlined, flowing in time - like there is no yesterday or tomorrow. Greegg's voice so calm. All band sound so natural . . .
the sound of brotherly love
Brother bro? Which one is it😂
Very well said....
Butch said it was a perfect night with no problems and very rare
I was there when Bill Graham announced that he would be recording the concert, it was the second show back in the day they would play two shows a night, one of the best concerts I' ever saw they where so tight great band RIP Allmans
I was lucky enough to see them at the Memphis Overton Park Shell back in the summer of '71. It was a beautiful day with beautiful people and the best music. One of the most memorable moments of my life.
Well Gregg, you are now jamming with Duane. We will miss you forever. Thank you so much for the superb soulful sounds. RIP Bro! Much love from Brooklyn, NY
Wonder what Billy Graham thinks of all the jammin' going on there!!!
James Cashin and much Love from Warsaw, Poland.

I learned from this fantastic band thanks a former boyfriend of my sister. Duane had already passed away then. But when I saw them later on TH-cam in the original composition, I have cried lot of tears. They were succesfull efter the passing away of Duane. But despite their succes they have missed their lovely brother.Greg is his real brother, but the other members are "brothers" too.
I can't get enough of the Allman Brothers with Duane.
Same. My favorite band to listen to in the fall, their music fits Baton Rouge so well! Anyways cheers!!
The man could play!
Me too.
That's the only Allman Brothers - with Duane and Barry. Everything since is a tribute band.
@@chriscrawford2401 it has been said that there was this force field flying between Duane and Barry and the rest of the band were captive in it. I think that was a very accurate description of what was going on. They were a force of nature!!
Rest in peace Gregg!!! And Duane, Bruce, Berry, Frankie, Allen, Butch and anyone else I missed!
How many went in 2017? 20 or 30?
Let's not forget Lamar too...

Man this dude s Lee is obviously not a good fan. Fanatical!!!!
Okay finally at 14:49 or thereabouts I can finally hear Greg, one of the greatest vocalist of all time.
it is one of the biggest mistakes in rock live recording history lol Gregg was absent for the first half of it because some dude back in the day forgot to turn him up when the band started playing, which leaves us without the vocals by one of the all-time greats for half of this video. Sucks. At least there was some mic bleed so we can at least _just_ hear him. Better than nothing, I guess.
@@STSGuitar16 hahah, i hadn't thought of it that way, but it is actually one of the biggest mistakes of live rock recording history. damn
@@placeboing for real man. There are only a handful of videos of them from this era, and of course someone screwed up half of this precious film lol
Point. Gregg Allan is the finest singer in history. And, of course, Duane Allman is the best musician in history. Wonder why they went to No. 1 in the woirld?
I still have my Fillmore concert program and ticket stub from the night of March 13, 1971. Johnny Winter opened the concert, followed by the ABB and capped off with Elvin Bishop.
No Doubt a GREAT SHOW !!
Man, I don't envy Elvin Bishop trying to follow JW & the ABB.
Jesus, the brothers are gone..RIP Gregg. Grateful that Bill Graham had the instincts to recognize the greatness of this band.

It is so sad, but God taking either one is an awful thought. We miss Duane Allman for sure, rip Duane, you were awesome, you made our summer great that year...We played the Live at the Fillmore East Album over and over my man......
I really don't understand how you could say such a thing. Duane is truly missed for sure, and to be taken at such an early age was even more tragic, BUT God chose him for a reason beyond my knowledge or yours...
He wasn't one of the best, he was and is "THE BEST" but that is just my opinion.
the best yes and of course God has His reasons, He is the Almighty not you or me...wow no need to get defensive, he is missed on earth for sure, that is what I meant,....MsFancyPants, nothing more
Unlike most kids my age who listen to one song from the 80’s and say they were born in the wrong generation, im just sad I wasn’t born in the 60’s to see the allman brothers work their magic.
I feel the same way. I'm 17 and wish I could've see these bands too
What are the odds that a fantastic guitar player and excellent singer/organ player came out of the same family to form a band like this?
My best friend is Duane's 'great' nephew. The resemblance is uncanny. I'm proud to know him.
Such great musicians ...RIP ...Duane , Berry , Gregg ,
There has never been anybody like Gregg Allman.
Berry Oakley is always in the top bassists lists too. Genius group.
Not really sure about all the various theories concerning an afterlife ---- but it is somewhat comforting to think of Dickey Betts joining Duane and Greg Allman, Berry Oakley and Butch Trucks to play together again. RIP Mr. Dickey Betts.
I came here to pay tribute to all the allman brothers..only one left..rip brothers
Thank you Gregg Allman for your soulful music which still touches people's musical souls yesterday, today and forever... Sending prayers to all of Gregg's family and loved ones at the news of his passing away today on May 27, 2017... Amen.

I grew up listening to these guys. Just always loved it even though I was in elementary school when this performance happened. Good music never dies.
Wow.. Duane was kickin' it. It was awesome to "see" this show which I've heard countless times, as a teenager growing up in a place where you'd be likely to actually walk into your favorite bar and see Dicky or Gregg or Butch.
+Pati Beardsley Where was that? Macon ? Atlanta? Just wondering, not trying to put you on the spot, I only ask because I live in Daytona and saw Duane & Greg in places here before they moved to Georgia. By Butch I think you are talking of the trucks family? I envy you.

The great Duane left us way too soon. Imagine what they could have achieved in the 1970's if he had lived.
True, however following the death of Duane Allman the bands next two records went to No. 7 and No. 1. They carried on. Duane Allman is the greatest musician in history. That said, had he lived would the Allan Brothers conquered the world? Can't say.

I have to say that The Allman Brothers Band was before my time, but I never realized just how loaded with talent this band was.
