What an achievement, I am so pleased it started up for you. I would have also been crapping myself if I had the balls to do what you have just done. I’m sure you will get it all set up and running smoothly over the next few days. All the very best mate
Best inter active video I was nervous during the startup of the engine wish I had your engineering skills. Best video by far. Well done keep them coming.
@@SavingSalvage well done Deano m'boi glad to hear it start looking forward to seeing the next video. I've a K-series Rover engine all new parts to be rebuilt basic in comparison but I needed motivation which you've helped me get 👍 Blessings from Glasgow ✝️🏴🇬🇧🙏
I was a factory trained R8 tech with Audi in California when the R8 was introduced. Only certain techs could drive them and fewer were trained to work on them. I remember wondering how small shops would be able to survive in the years to come because these cars needed such special white glove treatment - bollox. Get in there and figure it out. You did a massive job and did it well - hats off to ya.
I think this is a fantastic step forward. I was initially scared of all that smoke, then you explained 'burning off the old oil' and I felt happy for you. This is my most anticipated build. LOVE this one (GT3 is a very close 2nd).
Great series and content Dean, this is what the old Wheeler Dealers with Ed should have been, showing the steps needed to build a car vs just bolting bits on. 100% my favourite channel for car rebuilds, others have tried but dont come close!
Fair play Dean ,must be so nerve wracking waiting for it to fire into life after such an extensive rebuild, Matt had a similar thing with his murcielago running funky at first, no doubt you’ll get it sorted soon enough 👍🏻
Yeah, I was wondering why it had a lumpy idle and then you casually mentioned ALL the 'bits and pieces' you needed to add to it. SO, you should be very happy with the first start up. It was an excellent first result after rebuilding the motor! Well done! What an achievement!
Mate you had me crying with laughter, delaying the inevitable!! The amount of times I've done that with your heart in your throat!! Great stuff mate keep it going !!!
Bro! New subscriber here, absolutely FANTASTIC JOB putting her back together! I put an Audi A8L V8 Awd sedan back together after fitting a used engine after the timing belt broke and killed the original 😂 I had a very similar crank start….. die, crank back up……run…. Die…. Start AGAIN……. Run a little longer….. die AGAIN!…… lol just like you’re dealing with, once you get everything connected and verify oil flow/oil pressure, connect the radiator/cooling system 😂 I did the same thing ! 😂Open that throttle and give her some revvs and blow all that crap out and I bet she will smooth right out! It sounds fantastic on my side! No knocking, no ticking, just nice quiet Open manifolds! 😂😂🎉🎉 Can’t wait to see more!
My goodness Dean…what an epic job but it is your patience that astounds me…how do you carry on with such a complex engine….it simply amazes me. One thing though…I will never buy an R8 for any reason…that much stuff behind me liable to go wrong means it would be a constant misery…..when you finish, send it to auction and never look back!! You are an HERO…and brave beyond words!!😱😱😱😱😱😃😃😃😃
I know that "squeaky bum" feeling. A long time ago I rebuilt my CB900FZ engine on very very limited funds and didn't want to start it for about an hour. It was fine when I plucked up the courage, thank god, I had no money left if it wasn't. A pleasure to watch.
Well done Dean I remember rebuilding my 1987 toyota corolla 1.3l engine and I thought that was complicated. This was some job you did great achievement 👏 👍
It started! Be happy! Of course it will sound lumpy etc until everything is fitted etc, you have performed miracles with it! Congratulations and well done!
My heart was beating fast (I’m sure not as fast as yours!) but very nervous for you on initial start up! Such a major project - I’m sure it will turn out as you have imagined
Great video. Have just watched in amazement how you got that complex engine back togther. Understand your anxiety about starting it but it ran so big congratulations for getting it going👍
blown away by the amount of piston that came out of that intake, i an super happy for you that she coming back to life for you, sorry for the late reply i hope she do not have any other big issues for you
Looks like there is still a problem in the right cilinderbank. At youre first hard start there where little puffs of smoke af turning over a few times a lot of smoke . I think something is up with rings, gasket or valve guides. Would first check you're sparkplugs before starting again. Good luck on the build.
Looks good --- just need a clean up of the engine bay and as you say, check the oil filter. I assume you will run with the oil in for only few hours and then replace with new. As they say Oil is cheap , engines ae expensive . Did you clean that engine oil tank out and the coolers as they could have bits in; blow it through with compressed air and let it drain/dry out. Before fitting run some clean engine oil through it.
Nice one. I have rebuilt engines in the past (many years ago) and always had issues. One Toyota engine was so tight after new bearings and machined crank it all had to come apart again and be rebuilt. My Alfa Boxer engine was so easy to work on once you got it out the car but a nightmare to do any thing on while in the car. A 1.3 engine with 4 carburetors. It was so quick off the line a mates MK1 Golf GTI struggled to keep up with it.
I’ve followed this rebuild from the get go and extremely impressed and enjoyable. Full credit to you for your hard work and commitment towards this project 🤙🏼
Nice! Well done Dean, so glad it started and you managed to clean out all that crud! Be interested to see what you do to get it running sweeter. Keep going bud, awesome vid!
That sounded lovely and sweet on start up.. great result 😄- with the right hand bank having the oil burn off after the original engine blow, is there away to have the manifold cleaned to get the inevitable debris out of the Cat given what was in the inlet manifold there is likely to be some big bits in the exhaust too .. ??
I think you should be happy 😁 It's a huge step for you and the R8 It would not be perfect at the beginning but I think it's not so many hours work left 🙂
What an achievement, I am so pleased it started up for you. I would have also been crapping myself if I had the balls to do what you have just done. I’m sure you will get it all set up and running smoothly over the next few days. All the very best mate
Thanks mate! I hope so 😀

Hello Dean,
Where are you based, because I would be grateful if I had you as a trusted mechanic
I wish you all the best brother..
Best inter active video I was nervous during the startup of the engine wish I had your engineering skills. Best video by far. Well done keep them coming.
What an achievement Dean. You are brilliant to be able to rebuild that engine alone. And capturing and editing it all too. Hats off.
Blown away by the talent you show in this rebuild. It's like a 10000 piece jigsaw
Thanks mate

An engine like that is close to being brand new, probably needs a running in service again! What an amazing rebuild!
Can I just say thank you for giving us such indepth analyses of engine breakdown and rebuild.
I and everyone here enjoy your mate 🎉

Absolutely FANTASTIC work Dean. I'm gripped for you mate. This is the big one!!!
You need to take that motor to all the car shows you can...!!!
I think we were all as nervous as you Dean! Top work as usual 👍
Fantastic achievement young man. Plus so honest about the odd mistake. There are some good channels on TH-cam, and yours is up there with them 👍👍
Been waiting since 6 for this I think you need new internet 😂😂😂
I'll see your shit internet and raise you a TVR. ;)
Congrats! Takes a lot of self confidence to take on such a massive project on what was originally a $140,000 car.

Very well done Dean not everyone would have even attempted a rebuild on that. Great work!!
It will be fine,it sounds well ragged now,but once plumbed up it will be on song, hats off to you

Can't blame you for having a smile on your face, you've been to hell and back with this car Dean. Good luck with the rest of the rebuild.
Awesome job, Audi main dealer couldn't do any better. Crackin job
Just commenting for the algorithm as you should have a lot more recognition and subs than you currently have. Fantastic work!
Thank you mate! Appreciate it 😊
I was half expecting the Monoxide to get you, if your racing heart didn't get you first -- well done Dean its looking great 👍👍

You've done a great job with that engine well done mate 👍👍
Nice 👍🏻 I’ve been waiting to see the R8 get worked on. ❤
Well done Dean great content, fingers crossed there's no more major set backs with this build, keep up the good work
You should be very proud of yourself dean, great achievement and brilliant content, loving this build mate.
Totally agree with comments commending your stamina and knowledge on such an incredibly complex engine.
Take some serious confidence to build these engines. Respect to you!
Great job Dean!! Just open your door before you get poisoned.

Incredible achievement very well done. What a mechanic. 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Needs the air box and maf sensor hooking up and you'll notice the difference in how it runs
My heart was beating fast (I’m sure not as fast as yours!) but very nervous for you on initial start up! Such a major project - I’m sure it will turn out as you have imagined
Been following this series since the beginning, had my fingers crossed for this one!
Great job Dean, dodged a massive bullet finding the metal fragments before you ran the engine
Easy-off oven cleaner works well on those intakes as well I use it on Volkswagen cases when I turn down
I think it is a very great achievement, that you take apart and repair engine block with confidence with ease.
Well done.

This is great, you’re doing so well, almost there
Yyyyyyyeeeeeesssss, get in!! I was actually clapping when it started 😂 brilliant job Dean genuinely happy for you.
Bloody amazing that Dean, takes some bottle to take on a project like that ...... and make it work! Looking forward to the road test now!!
It's amazing how complicated an internal combustion engine is, especially an engine as developed for performance as this one is !!
When I watch rebuild vids I'm always astonished that cars don't fail more often
Dean, get some ventilation in there. Exhaust gases and fuel are known carinogens. Don't underestimate their risk.
Well done Dean best car rebuild channel on TH-cam 😊😊😊
Well Done..... Such an achievement mate 😎👏🏻👏🏻🇬🇧
Sounds awesome fantastic job, future classic to.

I think I'll stick to my classic mini. Hell of a job here .Well done!
Well done mate, quite a tense watch
I've build a few engines over the years........every first start is still bordering on a brown moment. Well done, big puzzle that one.
Excellent result Dean for all the effort you have put in. We all know it will run perfectly when you have finished it. Cheers, Bob
It's definitely come along way good job you cleaned out the intake looking forward to the next installment
Well done, it's been an epic job you should be proud
Hi man, on left side of intake manifold you did not conect vakum pipe, if the right side continues to smoke, check the injectors, good l.
Wow! You deserve a few beers 🍻
I think you should be happy 😁 It's a huge step for you and the R8 It would not be perfect at the beginning but I think it's not so many hours work left 🙂
Congratulations. You are now qualified as certified Audi engine rebuild engineer.
You should feel very pleased with yourself great achievement, well done, can’t wait for the next part!
Please keep it coming. I’m enjoying every episode.
