- This is all my opinion of driving the truck after a year. I drive my truck crazy hard as you can see in this video and many of my other ones, so its possible you may have a different experience. Overall the truck is awesome and I love it, but it needs some work out of the box. The stock esc is a goes out on about half of everyone that owns the truck, and in my experience it is not submersible. (driving through puddles killed my esc).

Another problem with the truck are the bearings. It's nice to have an entire set of bearing on hand. Here's the link:

Make sure you have some blue loctite when you first get the truck in order to prevent the pinion gear from coming loose. This is the first thing I would advise everyone to do.
For me, a drill has been very important for working on the truck because it cuts your time by a lot. Here's the drill I use:

Don't forget to drill all your tires with an 1/8th in drill bit on all 4 sides to prevent them from exploding and saving you money.
When you get a max 6 you will have to solder on connectors because it doesn't come with any. Here's a link to the connectors, you can solder onto your esc and your batteries:

Something I feel strongly about is putting the inside exoskeleton on the outside of the truck. This will give you much more mileage out of your stock body. Here's the link on how to do it:

Something I didn't mention but I recommend is getting the rear rpm bearing carriers. They last much longer than the stock bearing. Here's the link:

I have watched most of all your videos and got the same truck 8s v2 version. My Xmaxx runs good for about 10 minutes then ill lose throttle for about 5-10 seconds then it will come back and start running again. How did your esc act before you changed yours?...thanks in advance..videos have been very helpful😀 thanks

I've had my x maxx for a year now. No major issue's with it, blew a few tires, stock body is junk, and the esc did rlly good till I drove it in 15" of snow. Rlly liked tha vid.

I bought a xmaxx last year and i love mine im bad at maintenance but i just fixed all the barrings and greased all the gears and at the end of January 2019 my esc went out but ive never loved a rc more than i love my xmaxx

Thanks for the informative video I just got my new orange X max this week less than seven days old had issue with ESC where it’s cutting out my throttle which comes right back and running half power today. And then goes back to working normal thanks to you I got a Max 6 in the box already. Liked and sub’d thanks again

I wish i could have got the stock tires to hold up, i like how they handled. wound up getting the proline badlands with the beadlock. they work great but your chasing driveline failures for a month afterwards.

Still having fun with the truck and haven't changed my opinion on anything from the video!
I have a fairly new 8S Xmaxx and after a few runs, now the truck will not do a wheelie. Could this be caused by messing with the Mutli-fuction knob or TSM setting in the app ? Nothing sounds out of the ordinary or broke, still runs like a beast, just wont wheelie like it did.

I had ESC issues with my old Stampede 4x4 VXL. Awesome truck, but it was so frustrating having the truck overheat when I was doing normal racing around/bashing

Hi Mate, Im a bit of a noobie here but I got me a Bugsta and im looking to upgrade the motor. Its in the post but im wondering, do I need to change the gearing. Ive gone to a 3s and I read somewhere, Volt up, gear down, does that mean less teeth or more on the pinion ?? cheers
You run that 22/50 gearing for all types of driving?
Where you at in LA? Im in madisonville la and have a rustler but i think im about to pull the trigger on an xmaxx. I have 5 acres and a kabota with front bucket and backhoe, might build a little track
My Traxxas xmaxx 8s first 5 minutes driving it esc burned up alot smoke came out of the truck thought it was on fire but wasn't hurried and pulled body off and esc burnt black all over literally first time excited to drive it didn't get to drive it for even 10 minutes so I guess I'm one of the unlucky ones this truck is to expensive for this, hope the new esc Traxxas sends back is better I'm for sure gonna look into max 6 esc
Just ordered some rubber body savers. Didn't even roll the truck on its maiden voyage and they screws ripped through the body shell
Ever heard of sc1 spray? It’s used for dirt bikes and atvs, but is safe to use on plastic, gives it a nice shine and keeps the mud from sticking.
Did you need change your hinge pins after the spraying everything with WD40? I watched another video that stated the hinge pins pop out after using the muck off MO90. Awesome videos btw!!!
I’ve never changed them but it does increase your risk of them coming out

thats funny at the end, I use a wagon to pull people, first edition x-maxx with that 8s kit, and never had an issue with anything, i haven't beaten it up like you have tho, mine seems faster than the new version, wonder why? and im using the proline badland tires, i like the tires a lot

Another good method for your body is furniture polish, I use a product called Mr Sheen, not sure if you guys have it in the states, but it comes up real good, even smells nice 👍

Yes definitely vent. I've had tires explode with water in them.
It would be nice if Traxxas offered a roller Xmaxx, so you can choose your own to drop in. I did just what you said, I purchased a truck and the Max 6 esc with it. This truck is, by far, my favorite RC. 👍🏼👍🏼

I have diamond plating on the bed of my X-Maxx and while it does look cool and kinda protects the bed, it also bends, like did yours. For this reason i think the body might be better off without it.
What about a Casual Xmaxx driver? I am gonna run mine on just 6S lipo”Reduced power” around the grass in my yard during dry conditions with my two kids. I really don’t want to destroy it. Maybe some small tumbles, and tiny jumps. Longevity is very important to me, while not dumping a ton of money in to the truck. I went to buy one Thursday, and they only had that funky looking Rock’N Roll color body style. So I am waiting to hopefully grab a red or orange model.
If you drive it like you’ve described you shouldn’t have much trouble from the truck ever. If you do, Traxxas has great customer support
I thought Traxxas addressed the ECU issue shortly after it came out? Sorry to hear it still needs to be upgraded.
Two years later, has anyone else tested the stock esc? I bought my xmaxx about 5 months ago and quite literally tear it up with no esc issues so far, wonder if the newer versions have better ESC's being the fire thing was such an issue back in the day...
I do know it comes with body washers now 😉
Obviously these rare issues have been fixed, and the issue everyone talked about with the esc catching fire wasn’t the case for 50% of the units but more like 0.5%.
how rough are you on the xmaxx, or is it just not so durable? i have had my slash for like 6 years now and i’ve only replaced my bearings once. and i burnt out my velineon that was all. i run mine in mud and submerge it in water and all sorts of shit in west virginia. but i dont run mine every day.. maybe 4-5 times a week and sometimes it sits for months..
I run it like I did in this video on a weekly basis. The body, esc and bearings are weak points on the xmaxx. Besides that you saw what it survived 😂
