It was such a fun build and enjoyable thing to do. I also love building gundams mostly and ive done a FEW regular model kits. You even get to tune the suspension with different shock oil, damping settings, spring stiffness and ride hight, different control arm adjustments for different camber levels, etc. I highly reccomend building an RC car kit if you can. Mine isnt built as a drift car though, just a racing RC with an ND Miata body. I think after buying EVERYTHING for my car I spent maybe $500 total?
Yeah, $3k or more into a drift car seems a bit high. Especially just two wheel drive. Hell, my totally upgraded 1/5 scale HPI Baja 5b with an Oneil brothers ported 34cc 2 stroke racing motor cost just a tad above that. Only thing stock is the gas tank and recover box.
As a RC TH-cam channel am super stoked to see you all throw a bit of Full size Auto love to the tiny versions. Same. Did Crawling with a TRX4 and RC drifting back in the Sakura D3 days when Gyros just became a thing. I was surprised at the level Nolan talked about these things, the level of control he had with the crawlers. You guys should do another episode of this but cover some of the club racing aspects of rc and the different kinds of rc racing like onroad offroad carpet offroad and the various classes and clubs people can join. The rc hobby is huge. And the full race kits have an incredible abount of adjustment and you can develop skills that can translate to learning how to set up real car suspension.
@@Dragon-xd9em nah the individual components just add up, chassis, motor, esc, servo, gyro, battery, lipo batter charger, receiver, transmiter, shell, wheels, tires, etc.. my build is about 700 bucks all together even tho the esc for example only costs 50 bucks, stuff adds up
I have a Traxxas Slayer and a Revo 3.3 which are Nitro RC cars. Had them for 9 years ever since I was little. When they broke originally my dad paid for it but ever since I got a job when I was 15 I paid for the parts. I’ve paid upwards of 2300$ in total over 3 years of having the two of them. But also what didn’t help is when my friend tried to drive the Revo and drove it straight into a carriage wheel and annihilated the whole thing. Chassis was bent, and everything on the front end was done for so I had to rebuild the entire thing. Not to mention the Nitro engines that they use cost 300$ for a new one and i used to break them a lot because I didn’t know how to tune the carburetor properly when I was little so it would run to lean or to rich and the con-rod would split right in half 😂
There isn’t a specific single 1/10 drift car going for 5k, the most expensive drift esc is 259 the most expensive gyro is 175 the most expensive chassis is 900. There’s no way to make it 5grand
Well I think they wanted something which looked realistic and they don't want to have to change the body or the wheelbase. So it was a good choice. I personally just build them myself
I used to be way into bashers and if you're considering it, it's an amazing hobby if your near a little forest with loads of walking trails or whatever. It's decently cheap and the scale feels like you're actually driving a car, but 3rd person and with less risk of injury. Seeing the little suspension work and the sheer power is amazing.
I was into bashing for years. I thoroughly enjoyed 1/5 scale much more than 1/10 or 1/8. The way the 1/5th scale handles and the power they have make it so much more fun. The weight helps it handle better. I used to fly my 1/5 buggy up huge hills where my 1/10 truck would just bounce all over
I got into RC big time the first year of Covid. Awesome crafty, fiddly hobby where you can spend time and $ tweaking to your heart's desire and make cool and unique builds. I love it.
I love all the effort that the team puts into creating each and every single video. Every video is so creative especially when the sponsorship comes up. I'm glad you guys make every new episode better than the previous. To think this is a car channel you guys make it so fun to watch with your sense of humor and creativity. Keep it up🫶🔥
I have a trail finder 2 and going out in the bush to do a little crawling with it is actually super relaxing. It combines outdoor time with a problem solving activity. It also allows artistic freedom with scale details on the body. Lots of fun.
There is a even more expensive category. ICE RC cars. Most commonly run on nitro. They can be made for racing or as a model. For racing they have to follow the rules of the competition they are in. For models the sky is the limit. There are some hobbyists on the youtube with some crazy builds like full functional miniature replicas of real cars. Also the most expensive entry point for the RC hobby is actually the radio emitter/controller. A decent controller is not cheap.
I build a 1/10th scale rock crawler and taped a small FPV drone & flashlight to it so I can inspect my crawl space without having to climb around under the house. Very useful.
@@Chargersctpk Look into the Traxxas TRX4 M 1/18 scale that was just released. It’s only slightly bigger than the SCX24 but performs way better. It’s about the same price as an SCX24 too so a no brainer.
I spend hundreds and thousands on rc cars and thank you for making this video to show people rc cars and Pacific coast hobbies is one of the hobby shops I go to!
Nolan definitely has a background with RC cars, you can tell with how he's talking. RC is a super fun hobby with limitless customization. I myself love the crawler portion of the hobby.
I have a TRX-6 with a square body cab on the front. Thing’s been dead reliable. I’ve had to replace a couple micro servos for the diff locks over the years, but I take it hiking with me all the time and it’s got 3000 miles on the original running gear, about 1500 on the current upgraded ESC, and 1000 on a cheap $12 550 motor to replace the original when that finally burnt out
trx platform, are basically a tank, slap a 6s system you got yourself a basher, slap a crawler system you got your self a one of the capale crawler out there
Yes it’s the same with the other 1/10 scale stuff they offer. I am looking out for the new Trx m. The smaller size is better for me then the 1/10 scale although the 1/10s have at the moment a better pool of aftermarket parts.
This is literally what mice would build if they became the dominant species on the earth. They'd have little mouse cities too and their crowning skyscrapers would be 3 stories high and a sprawling city would be no bigger than a typical neighborhood
awesome video. i love when we see you guys' passions. Nolan getting deep in the paint...or just scratching the surface, of something he's into. Love it.
I'm 40 and have been playing with rc toys since I was 5. I still have every single one. My collection is over 400 planes, jets, edf's, cars, helps, boats, tanks...... you name it. From cheap to stupid expensive. Either way, every one of them is fun!! It's all what one is willing to spend in the hobby. Great video.
I ran a hobby shop for over 10 years, and about 6 years ago built a big indoor racetrack to go with it. The content and advice nolan is giving here is TOP NOTCH! Great video guys!
The only insane thing about nitro RC cars is the maintenance and the super loud noise , my RC is a pretty regular build and still smokes 90% of nitro/petrol cars .
Darkki is right electric surpassed nitro cars a lonnggggg time ago like a little over a decade or I got my first rc car when I was about 12 in 2006ish it was a nitro tmax3.3 at that time electrics were way slower but in 2012 when I got into short course trucks it was completely different cheap electrics we’re as fast as nitros
@@darkki94 nice buddy🤘 I haven’t drove mine in a long time cause all the tracks shut down near me but I have a team associated sc10 set up for clay track racing I don’t remember how much I’ve put into it but if I remember correctly it’s got a 6500 kv brushless set up it’ll pop wheelies if I don’t turn it down
Love this episode. I'm balls deep into RC lol. At this point I have 17, and still want more. Most of them are crawlers, and I even have a 1/10 Tamiya replica of my full-size W201. Which I painted the clear body and got the colour pretty much spot on. You don't necessarily have to spend a fortune on the hobby, but there is a difference between toy-grade, and hobby-grade. Better off not wasting your money on something you can't fix. When hobby-grade RC's can easily be repaired or even upgraded. Making it totally customizable to your needs. PS: You should start an RC segment 🚗💨
My son and I got started in to hobby rc cars early 2020, almost as if we were home a lot and couldn’t go anywhere for the year... Because it’s my son and I, we gotta buy things in 2’s. 2 brushed 2wd Slashes. 2 Slash Ultimates. 2 brushless 4wd Rustlers. Etc. We actually do each have some cars the other does - was just getting too expensive paying 2x the price each time. E-Revo, TRX4, Bandit VXL, and then I bought up a few more 2 and 4wd Slashes used that I’ve modified for either street or heavy bashing. We do have some non-Traxxas vehicles like the kit buggy we built. That costed me more than planned, but the plan was to join the local track for races. My son has amazing car control - he’s kicking my butt. But then we went to an actual race day at our local track - well, race weekend. People showed up in their rvs with the families in tow. Super serious competitors. They come in on Friday and stay through Sunday - like a race weekend at a real track, but these are rc cars! If they’re dropping 6 figures on an rv to get them to these races, I don’t want to know how much they’re spending on their cars. Heck, they throw away their tires after a day of running them! Crazy...
Not gonna lie I didn’t expect this from this channel. And I love it I’ve been RC crawling for years and it’s honestly one of the great pleasures of mine especially when it’s winter and I can’t take my forerunner to the trails I can just pull out the crawler and go crawl at a park somewhere. There are so many great options for RC
think you guys need to remake this video but use the traxxas xmaxx as the basher. you will enjoy it a lot more with how much power it really has and it takes 8s, it’s by far my favorite truck out of all my rc trucks
Traxxass more like 🤣 my outcast exb survives two or three packs of carnage when we hit the skate part while my buddy’s Xmaxx is being wrenched on, on the sidelines more than he runs the damn thing.
I literally said the same thing. The Lasernut is the worst car to bash with. And I'm speaking from experience. Grab a Maxx or an Outcast or hell even a dang Senton or Slash. Those things will never break and they are literally around the same price as the Lasernut. If not way cheaper.
I just recently got into flying drones and this hit me right in the feels for how flying fpv feels; it’s not that bad if you already have some gear but starting from scratch adds up quickly. I highly recommend getting something mid and just upgrading as you go and learn!!
You don't need to spend a lot of money to have fun, but when you get into it, you can drop $1k on the cars. Both my drift cars have more than $1k on them.
Got a 1.4k crawler (scx6 w/ upgrades) and a 1.3k basher/track car (arrma typhon tlr coustom) and i would say just go with 300$if you can. Perfect price
Good stuff - I'd throw the the Arrma Granite 3s BLX in the ring as well. $600 or so, but it's a lot more vehicle than the brushed Granite. Also the Granite platform has adjustable preload and proper oil filled shocks - the brushless drivetrain is solid, and it's an absolute blast. Like you suggested for the Lasernut, it's absolutely capable of being upgraded as far as your wallet and interest will take you. My originally brushed base model 4x4 Granite now has an eliminated clutch, steel rear diff and pinion, and a 130 amp 3s drivetrain, and LED lights - with paddle tires on, it will shoot rooster tails through deep powder all day long. You also missed out big on Traxxas' TRX4 offering in the crawler arena, it's got a two speed transmission, locking diffs, and portal axles, again at the $600 price point.
It's always interesting seeing the top end of a hobby you have no part in. I'm like, "$1200 RC car, that's insane. No one needs that!" Then I remember my aquarium has 3 $800 light fixtures over it. lol
Crawling brought me back into the RC hobby. If you are in Southern Colorado you have to visit "The Crawl Space South", they have everything drift/crawl in their store, including a drift track and plenty of rocks.
Unsure if already mentioned but your low ends are toy grade, so straight away they aren't meant to be on the same level, manufacturers like wltoys and such make entry prices vehicles that are hobby grade.
They are pretty fun, i still have 1 drift, 3 bashers, and i had a crawler but i gave it away, before you buy you need to consider on which style suits best for you, each style gets very expensive, i enjoyed bashers more coz i can take them pretty much everywhere and ride it to hell but i did spent a lot on broken parts replaced with metal, with better servo, batteries, controller, and a very expensive motor, its freaking way too fast tbh, rn the one basher with the fast motor has a broken drivetrain (it broke due to have fast it was spinning, 100km on just rear tyres, lots of torque however) i could switch drive train with another basher but im lazy and dont want to part out a basher but maybe ill find a metal drive train for 23 summer. rc hobby is not cheap, although to save some money you can buy rc parts like metal frames at aliexpress and they do hold up since they are metal, its where i bought pretty much all of my rc parts, the only things i bought at the rc store was batteries, controller, and other things i couldnt find in aliexpress. i do rec going for the mid range rc since they have the most options of upgrading, you can take a mid range and make it a high range through upgrades
I had a Boss S14 body that I had painted as Corey Hosford's Boss S14. The car that I had to drift with isn't all that expensive but it works and that's what most people need is something that works.
Now get an Arrma Limitless and try to go 200mph and yes it's a thing. Don't look at the "no prep drag scene" that's a rabbit hole you guys might not get out of but it would be epic.
This channel started as an infotainment channel and now is a pure entertainment channel. I love the guys - Pumphrey is super wholesome and I still enjoy SOME a very limited part of their content. They keep saying they do what they want to do but they do what appeals as many people as possible. They let Up to Speed, Bumper2Bumper and Science Garage die and started making average youtube content like lists, guess the price, judge the ticktok tips There was a time when I was counting the days to seeing Pumphrey talk about the history of a brand with (intentionally) poorly drawn cartoon stories and meme like "PopUpAndDownHeadlights" and "V-TEC AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH" I am happy you found your way and make a living out of this channel but I am seriosuly questioning removing my subscription, especially now that when I found other channels like THE SQUIDD and Albon that better suit my taste.
The crawler and drifters actually look pretty fun. When I was a kid there was a hobby shop near my house. They had a rc racetrack but the cars were like 5x smaller than these cars. It was really fun. Such a shame that businesses like that almost don't exist anymore.
I always wanted an rc drift car like the 300 dollar one since i was like 7 but my parents would never spend that kinda money on a rc car lol maybe one day
Super g is a real cool shop and the dudes are real honest and will not try to up charge or sell you what you don't need. Had a great experience there when I was a kid and went to buy a drift chassis
I said the same thing. The Lasernut is literally the last car I would ever bash with. Should have gotten a Maxx or a Slash or an Outcast. Same price but a thousand times stronger.
RC cars are A STRAIGHT BLAST! I used to have a TON but sold them all. T-maxx 3.3, nitro rustler, Tamiya Super Blackfoot, RC10GT, rc10mt 1/18 (think that was name) are just a few.

The Arrma BLE version would be a great choice. 2S - 4S. It is fast, good price point, and a tank.
no, the 3S BLX BigRock is a better value.
@@TechWizMaster more wheelies
Well I think they wanted something which looked realistic and they don't want to have to change the body or the wheelbase. So it was a good choice. I personally just build them myself
Nvm hadn't started the video just realsedbit wasn't just the drift car lmao
I hope your sponsors appreciate how high quality your spots are. They’re always hilarious to the point I sit through the whole thing

RC racing is one of the better things I’ve done. Years ago I built a Magen MBX7 buggy and had damn near $2k in the build. Keep up the awesome content
I got into RC big time the first year of Covid. Awesome crafty, fiddly hobby where you can spend time and $ tweaking to your heart's desire and make cool and unique builds. I love it.
Same. It’s more fun than tinkering with the real thing. You also don’t a ticket or end up in a hospital bed when you crash.
I love all the effort that the team puts into creating each and every single video. Every video is so creative especially when the sponsorship comes up. I'm glad you guys make every new episode better than the previous. To think this is a car channel you guys make it so fun to watch with your sense of humor and creativity. Keep it up🫶🔥
I had a TRAXXAS E-MAX in my early teens. Super fun, affordable and easy to get parts for. I wouldn't mind an upgraded model even now in my 20's
Well done Donut.. I feel like you actually gave a realistic review of all 3 and provided some very good info for a newbie
I have a trail finder 2 and going out in the bush to do a little crawling with it is actually super relaxing. It combines outdoor time with a problem solving activity. It also allows artistic freedom with scale details on the body. Lots of fun.
I love my TF2. It’s my fav rig to use out of all of my crawlers.
A decent controller is not cheap.
ive been into rc cars for a while, its awesome to see u guys playing with them on the channel, keep it up
The crawlers are super cool, I feel like it might help a bit with picking lines too
I have a heavily modified Traxxas TRX4 Sport and its unreal some of the terrain it can get over.
I build a 1/10th scale rock crawler and taped a small FPV drone & flashlight to it so I can inspect my crawl space without having to climb around under the house. Very useful.
For the crawling category, an SCX24 is also a good option, and is a lot easier to store!
I thought of getting one
@@Chargersctpk Look into the Traxxas TRX4 M 1/18 scale that was just released. It’s only slightly bigger than the SCX24 but performs way better. It’s about the same price as an SCX24 too so a no brainer.

Hello kev!
Love to see our hobby get some attention! Thanks Donut!
I own a losi lasernut it breaks 3 to 4 times a week but smaller tires help with reliability
Yeah the TRX-4 and TRX-6 are one of the most capable crawlers and more if you upgrade them. I got a TRX-4 and it’s hella capable for being stock.

This is literally what mice would build if they became the dominant species on the earth.
They'd have little mouse cities too and their crowning skyscrapers would be 3 stories high and a sprawling city would be no bigger than a typical neighborhood
Wish you would have mentioned the thrills of Nitro RC. They're really the most fun. Especially the vintage 90s and early 2000s stuff.
Finally, the RC hobby made it to this show. Thanks, man

I'm kinda surprised you guys didn't get ahold of any nitro rc cars, those things are absolutely insane and sound wild

Crazy...
Yeah, I started this hobby in 2014 and I can tell it's been fantastic
This was such a cool video. Makes me want to get one for sure
The vids just keep getting better and better
Not gonna lie I didn’t expect this from this channel. And I love it I’ve been RC crawling for years and it’s honestly one of the great pleasures of mine especially when it’s winter and I can’t take my forerunner to the trails I can just pull out the crawler and go crawl at a park somewhere. There are so many great options for RC
think you guys need to remake this video but use the traxxas xmaxx as the basher. you will enjoy it a lot more with how much power it really has and it takes 8s, it’s by far my favorite truck out of all my rc trucks
Or even an arma senton 6s
Traxxass more like 🤣 my outcast exb survives two or three packs of carnage when we hit the skate part while my buddy’s Xmaxx is being wrenched on, on the sidelines more than he runs the damn thing.
I literally said the same thing. The Lasernut is the worst car to bash with. And I'm speaking from experience. Grab a Maxx or an Outcast or hell even a dang Senton or Slash. Those things will never break and they are literally around the same price as the Lasernut. If not way cheaper.
8s has nothing to do with power. All it means is it has 8 cells
@@asw912608 I'm talking about durability. The Lasernut is a damn glass cannon from my personal experience.

I just recently got into flying drones and this hit me right in the feels for how flying fpv feels; it’s not that bad if you already have some gear but starting from scratch adds up quickly. I highly recommend getting something mid and just upgrading as you go and learn!!

@@Skinflaps_Meatslapper lol it’s not that expensive.
You don't need to spend a lot of money to have fun, but when you get into it, you can drop $1k on the cars. Both my drift cars have more than $1k on them.

When James announced we would see Nolan and the imperial in a video soon, I did not expect this
LoL

Time to do another one with nitro buggies
It’s crazy because I’ve had the thought of getting an rc car, this might have convinced me
They are pretty fun, i still have 1 drift, 3 bashers, and i had a crawler but i gave it away, before you buy you need to consider on which style suits best for you, each style gets very expensive, i enjoyed bashers more coz i can take them pretty much everywhere and ride it to hell but i did spent a lot on broken parts replaced with metal, with better servo, batteries, controller, and a very expensive motor, its freaking way too fast tbh, rn the one basher with the fast motor has a broken drivetrain (it broke due to have fast it was spinning, 100km on just rear tyres, lots of torque however) i could switch drive train with another basher but im lazy and dont want to part out a basher but maybe ill find a metal drive train for 23 summer. rc hobby is not cheap, although to save some money you can buy rc parts like metal frames at aliexpress and they do hold up since they are metal, its where i bought pretty much all of my rc parts, the only things i bought at the rc store was batteries, controller, and other things i couldnt find in aliexpress. i do rec going for the mid range rc since they have the most options of upgrading, you can take a mid range and make it a high range through upgrades
one person i watch on youtube is kevin talbot. he’s who got me into rc’s and everything i know plus what cars/trucks can take a beating the best,
I had a Boss S14 body that I had painted as Corey Hosford's Boss S14. The car that I had to drift with isn't all that expensive but it works and that's what most people need is something that works.

This channel started as an infotainment channel and now is a pure entertainment channel. I love the guys - Pumphrey is super wholesome and I still enjoy SOME a very limited part of their content. They keep saying they do what they want to do but they do what appeals as many people as possible. They let Up to Speed, Bumper2Bumper and Science Garage die and started making average youtube content like lists, guess the price, judge the ticktok tips
There was a time when I was counting the days to seeing Pumphrey talk about the history of a brand with (intentionally) poorly drawn cartoon stories and meme like "PopUpAndDownHeadlights" and "V-TEC AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH"
I am happy you found your way and make a living out of this channel but I am seriosuly questioning removing my subscription, especially now that when I found other channels like THE SQUIDD and Albon that better suit my taste.
