The video quality and detail he shows you is tops. This is your small engine "go to" guy in my opinion. I've learned things about equipment from this guy I dont even own...but if I did I know now who the first guy is who will have the answers to point me in the right direction. I am very proud of the Dactal family for many reasons. First, you had an idea, and then you finished it. Second, you blabbed all the secrets of small engines. Third, you gave us the confidence to work on our own stuff. With your guidance, I took a 1977 chain case of a Yard Man tiller completely apart and fixed it with a 5/8" top shaft I had to get made. After I put the engine back on (135202) PulsaJet carbitrator---- It actually worked!!! I owe most of my gumption to you. I now collect a certain brand of metal toy that was extremely popular from Mound, Minn. --so Slippers does have SOME sense. Thank you for realizing your TH-cam dream. Now TH-cam can build a second story onto your shop!

      Terminator-tiller😎(killer-tiller)was a EXCELLENT video Tayrl.
The tiller in this video was definitely worth a 6-pack of 🍺 beer and I don't even 🍸 drink,I would have bought the guy a 12 pack of beer and told him to"keep the change".HAHA!!.
That tiller will last almost forever the way its built(like a tank)and most of the time your only going to use it twice a year for brief periods of time anyway(spring planting/fall harvest),unlike your lawn mower.
I was noticing after you were using the"Z"bender Tayrl, you didn't"temper"that end of the throttle cable.Alot of mfg.'s"temper"both ends of the cable because that's a wear-and-tear stress point.(No big deal,it was just an observation)
Back in 1974 lawn/garden equipment was made alot better in general, thicker and better steel,NO PLASTIC,alot more machined steel gears, more cast iron in the engines too.
      AND THERES YOUR DINNER!!.

This man is already taking Hollywood by storm, chosen by vanity fair as the sexiest man mechanic alive, , ladies once you lay your eyes on his drive train, nothing else matters, and trust me he has the horsepower to backup that drive train. ALL JOKING ASIDE WHEN I NEED HELP ON A MECHANICAL ISSUE THIS IS THE MAN TO SEE, he makes every task seem so much easier than i view it as. He is a walking library of knowledge, if i had to choose one only one man on a mission to mars for a year it would be none other than this man. And Taryl i mean that with the deepest respect, i have learned more from watching your videos than from any other source, hell you have probably forgotten more than most of us will ever know, and you are always right , and by the way we named our last child after you as a tribute to the greatness that you possess. THANK YOU sir you have pulled me out of some real repairs that i just couldn't figure out , this world would be a sad place without you in it. Take care of yourself you will want to be around in 2025 that will be the year that the grays will come out openly for all to meet and they will be bringing gifts so we stop burning fossil fuel, because everything we do here affects other worlds , they tried to explain it to our leaders but they continued to burn fossil fuel anyway , kickbacks from oil companies, and they plan on sharing all the tech they have learned over the centuries with us for saving their civilization by sharing our DNA material with them , they had reached a place so sad that they could no longer reproduce, and cloning is only a band-aid on a huge wound, they are from the multiverse a world identical to ours from the beginning but since time moves at a much faster rate they are way past us by thousands of years, they are explorers, just like we will be one day, just like all advanced civilizations its what they do, they told and showed us that their are an infinite universes just like this one , they were created all at the very same time from the big bang, we call their home another dimension, our scientist thought their were only 12 dimensions , a few got it right , the rest will be in for the shock of a life time, and all move at different rates of time, some slower than a tutle some are still cooling off , and others are producing GODS because of the speed at which time flows and evolution has taken over, when a being reaches the use of the brain at 100% they are considered a GOD because they can produce matter out of thin air using only their mind, we are currently using only 10% of our brain, the grays will increase that by 10 % each generation , they have already started.

I used to use carb cleaner as a starting fluid, but I switched over to using a spray bottle with some two cycle gas in it. It provides a bit of lube for the top end, especially on engines like this one that has been sitting for quite a while. And yes, carb cleaner in the eyes really burns! And if you happen to have the official small Briggs flywheel puller, it has the right hardware for pulling those float valve seats. You just have to provide your own spacer tube. Excellent video as always Taryl! That’s pretty much the same procedure I use when something like this back to life. My Dad used to always tell me, spark, fuel, and compression and it’ll run..

Great stuff, Taryl. As you said, they don't make things like they used too. That 1972 Sears Rototiller is built like a tank! That is the year I hired into GM. 30 years and out and haven't looked back sense. Those days are long gone. I was given a 1966 Simplicity Landlord 101 by my neighbor about 24 years ago. It's all original. I did touch up some of the white paint, which was pretty rusty looking. New tires and fuel lines and a new carburetor. Oh yes, it needed new spark plug, points and condenser as well. It came with a 42 in mower deck and a dozer blade. A set of chains for the rear ties too. It still starts right up and runs quite well for an original engine. I have never done a compression test to see how much compression it has. I had to replace the axle seals, which were leaking. Like you said that old stuff is built extremely strong compared to today's equipment. I mainly use the Simplicity Landlord to move my utility trailer from the back storage building to where I can hook it up to my Yukon. Your videos are very entertaining as well very informative. If I need to work on any of my machines, I look to find one of your videos, which covers just about every subject.

So I watch these types of videos religiously. Small engine, atv, auto shop, etc. I usually fall asleep to whatever is playing on TH-cam (I rarely watch cable or Netflix anymore). Yesterday I wake up at 5 am pretty groggy, barely awake, and glance at the tv with eyes still crusty from sleep and I see this guy fixing engines and I cannot recognize his voice. The camera pans up and I see this crazy guy with Austin powers teeth and I stare for a few seconds thinking is this real or satire? I fall back asleep I guess and when I wake up I assumed it was a dream. A few hours later I come upstairs from working on an atv and TH-cam is playing for my dogs (drowns out air compressor noises). Guess who’s face I see !? Needless to say I sit down and watch the video and holy crap he’s not only funny but super knowledgeable. I love the combination of humor and teaching. Great concept. I’ve been binge watching for the last two days. Not only are you recording everything you’re doing but you’re also talking through each step. Very awesome for someone who needs help with any of these machines.

I bet Taryl could set the rpm by sound. It’s great to see people pass on how we fixed equipment back in the day. Don’t need special tools for everything. I would rather find an old tiller than some of this new stuff they have. My dad had an old 70 something tiller and that thing would tear through the dirt with ease and have good gardening soil in no time. That’s for the video and glad I found your channel.

I am a firm believer that the older engines, and accessories were made to last longer than the new stuff. I look every day for older equipment and tools being sold.. I don't need any of it, but I love to own it and work on it ! Again, thank you for sharing your knowledge and talent ... PS : including the parts replacement number is a HUGE help too !

A good additional step to your tank cleaning with vinegar and bolts at 21:20, I'd do that, but jack up the rear wheels of a rider, bungee strap the tank to the side of the wheel, start the mower, throw it in gear, and let it power clean the tank. Lol

Excellent video, I like the old school stuff. Have you worked on any of the new EFI small engines yet? I had one in my shop and had to tell the guy to go back to where he bought it, as I don't have any experience on them yet. Hope to get some schooling on them. thanks

Another excellent dinner! Totally agree about dwindling build quality! I have a "Howard 350" and a "Howard Bantam" - they have gears in them like you'd see in a good quality auto gearbox - and they're over 50 years old. Keep 'em coming Taryl and atb from over the pond!

I have about 40 of these engines ranging from 3.5hp to 10hp and I have been using all your tips and tricks to get them running like new again for future hotrod mini bike and go kart projects. I really liked the micro jet drill video you had. I bought a set for myself and it makes life easy when swapping carbs after intake and exhaust mods. Can really tune up these old engines. Keep the videos coming you were a better teacher then the ones in my university. Much appreciated and very entertaining.

I have this same tiller but a 1977. Got it non running from a neighbor after it sat for many years. No spark and a dirty carbitrater. I replaced the points, cleaned the carb and she runs great. Had to weld some metal pieces to the tines as they were worn out but it works great!

Wish I ran across this video about 3 days ago.. I have an old 1975 tiller just like that one from Sears. (Choke setup is different) The coil wire looks like it blew up, have no ideal how that heavy wire was broke in the middle and the insulation was, well, look like a monster chewed it up and down. I did NOT know about taking the high gas needle seat out before pulling the carb apart.. I hope I got that back in without damage. It's back in. I'll get my parts later this week so I'll see how things go.. I really loved the video, a lot of good tips..
