  • In "Blademan & Throttle - The Choker's Spell", Taryl goes over how to properly get this Briggs & Stratton basket case engine (engine disassembled in a box) running like new again. Then he sticks it back on the Troy Bilt 'Tuffy' tiller he received it on and gets THAT working.
Before and after the how-to tutorial, local Podunk superheros "Blademan & Throttle", find themselves turned against each other when The Choker hypnotizes Throttle into destroying Blademan. See how it all plays out here in another entertaining yet educational how-to video from your friends at Grass Rats Garage! And as always, There's Your Dinner!!

@@gamergavinfn246 it is a mounting pattern used by some devices that use this style of engine for power like pressure washers and hydraulic pumps where the driven device doesn't use pulleys but rather connects directly on the output shaft of the motor and hangs of those bolts

I really enjoy these videos Taryl! Believe it or not my high school offered small engine repair as an elective course in deer park high school in deer park texas and I took it in 11 grade. It was one of my better decisions as a youngster! I'm so glad I did because it gave me a good understanding of combustion engines. Admittedly I have sent my small engines to my local guy and paid him simply because I just didnt want to deal with it. But since I've retired and have more time I've actually enjoyed getting my hands dirty fixing my own small engines as well as friends and family. Thanks for the videos!

Hey Taryl. That was a new tool you are using today, I never saw any of these. That's a nice little thing to show the rev on an engine. I found it on amazon. I'll buy one very soon. Tks for your videos, I am learning so much about small engines (and engine in general)!!! I've been so curious about mechanic for years in general, that finally I decided to learn it myself and I discovered that I really enjoying playing with that kind of stuff!!! It's mostly a hobby, but I love it. Tks for your help.

Just want to thank you Taryl. There's a lot I've learned for the ASE tests. Many things I personally don't do much of is engine repair work and seeing and hearing the terms makes it easier to understand. My ADHD ass learns by seeing not just reading.

You are the Bob Ross / Julia Child hybrid of small engine repair. Just shows you that you can repair anything....it takes only time, money, knowledge, patience and most of all a pile of spare parts unless you want a final repair bill that is way morre than the original engine price. Love the dancing engine on the table top. Saying that was cool always works when the project doesn't destroy itself or take a chunk of flesh from your body.....but then again Taryl fixes all....no matter what....LOL.

I knew that lift would come in handy. That had to be a real gonad grinder for poor old Throttle. My father in law and his friend used to run the dump/recycling center in a smaller town here in Wisconsin and he'd bring home all kinds of garden equipment. Some of it was nice like this tiller. This content is always the best. Thanks

I thought that I read in Briggs manual that you always install the .015 gasket. If necessary you add the other thinner gaskets if endplay was too low. If .015 was too much end play then you still use it and use a thrust washer inside to reduce endplay. If thrust washer reduces too much then you increase as before by adding gaskets to the .015.

Those tillers are a handful to operate, if your'e not tilling up soft ground they will shoot out of your hands. The troy-bilt tiller with the gearbox that allows you to shift to couner-rotating blades works so much better for hard, untilled material.

I rebuilt two of these 5hp Briggs carbs recently. The one on my little wonder is still acting up. At choke fully off after about 1 minute, the unit starts to stall and will die unless I flip the choke back on, but its not running full clip with choke. I see signs of fuel on top of the tank. I think the damn thing is sucking air at the carb base gasket. Now the whole things gotta come back off. Aftermarket gasket, probably the issue. Either fuel or air, one of the two is thrown off...
I don't like having to mess with the carb twice, especially not this style. Or who knows maybe the head gaskets blown. Wouldn't be a huge surprise since this things job is to move large volumes of air.

I miss the old asbestos and metal head gaskets-they could be used over and over-the new ones are a one-shot deal-if you have to take the head off again, you have to use a new gasket. The spinning engine was great! And the "Choker"-thanks for the laugh, guys!
