You got me interested in watching this within the fist 2 minutes, then you played the water scene with that thing watching them and while I agree the visuals look great and it make a good horror moment, just the idea of that being me had me saying nope repeatedly. I'd have died must from looking at it in that setting.
when I saw that scene, I literally coiled up and said oh my god with tears in my eyes. I'm a 31yo man and that REDUCED me!!!!! I'm baby top 5 movies of the year though
The punishment for Captain Crow is that he lost everything, he lost Jacob, the Red Bluster, his ship, his crew, his life and finance, like the crazy lady said when he took her weapon and poison, it'd cause him everything he had. Overall, I really like this movie, and the people from Big Hero 6 and Moana worked on it!
When you think about how this movie ended, that could've been what the witch meant when she told that captain that using the weapon would cost him everything. No doubt that the weapon lead to them bringing Red to the royal capital, that would lead to their exposure and ending the war between humans and sea beasts. This would no doubt cause the Cro's hunters to disband and leave Crow without his vengeance and probably cause him to reflect on his actions and decisions, as he has truly lost everything he has fought for, just not in the way he truly feared.
Agreed. In the end, Crow lost his ship, his son and heir, probably his crew, his job, and his reputation. Pretty much anything that would matter to him.
And also maybe that is why we only have the ONLY SONG in the movie, Captain Crow, and why he feels more like a very important character. He was viewed as a hero to the people, but he's becoming a villain himself. In the end, he didn't get his victory, no one is going to continue his legacy... and he became history.
7:49 in theory, its very possible that the Red Bluster is an anphibian, since there are some scenes when it walks on land. So yeah, not only it looks like a salamander but it probably is one. Extra evidence: we've seen that it has no gills so its not a fish.
That “Knuckle walking” thing, in my theory, is because one of animals referenced for the Red Bluster’s design are sea lions, which have a similar stance when on land.
Except there front flippers curve outwards like a hand while Red's curves inward. It's very distinct and I've never seen an animal look like that with the exception of gorillas, sloths and anteaters
@@Alteori Huh! I didn’t actually notice that! Welp perhaps the designers took a few creative liberties to distinguish her a tad bit from the otariid influence ^^ Another influence might be cetaceans, particularly the humpback whale. Mostly when she swims without using her flippers.
One of my favorite things about this movie is the level of detail that they put, especially in the monsters designs. You don't see them being all completely smooth instead, when you look closer, you can actually see they possess a couple of faded nicks and scars all over their body, like the in Brickleback's hide(aside from the visible damage it took from cannon fire), the shell of the giant purple crab, and even in Red's horn. It's a subtle thing, but one I appreciate nonetheless because of how it gives them character, it shows that in the first time we see them, it isn't their first rodeo, and that they've gone up against other monsters and hunters before and lived to tell the tale. It's just cool man
The whole lesson in it and her speech to the townspeople at the end reminded me of Hiccup’s argument with his father after he found out about Toothless in the first movie. “They’ve killed *hundreds* of us!” “And we’ve killed *thousands* of them!”
That whole theme bothered me a bit. I would have prefered it a bit if the monsters had been as much at fault as the humans. And the reconciliation and peace had to come from both sides. Maybe Red decided that enough was enough, and this movie was the point where she decided to risk it all to stop the slaughter on both sides. The genre where Humans are always the reason for the bad stuff gets tiresome in these fantasies. Not that long ago Dragons were intelligent, sadistic, greedy, murder machines. At least in the west. And in the east they might not have been evil, but they did have a habit of raining down catastrophes if disrespected. Typhoons, tidal waves, and earthquakes were all laid at the claws of dragons.
@@thtiger1 That’s…exactly what the movie does? It literally has two massive scenes built around talking Red down from killing the admiral and later the king and queen, with the point almost sledgehammered that the cycle continuing is just as dependent on her as it is them.
While there are similarities with this and HTTYD, there is something I wanna point out, and it’s why humans and sea monsters fought. With HTTYD, the dragons were controlled by the Red Death, who forced them into serving her and finding food. That led to the conflict with the Vikings. In this case, the Vikings were justified in fighting back as they were on the defensive. But the dragons aren’t to blame as they’re being controlled(not like the Bewilderbeast method, but still dragon commands). With the Sea Beast, it’s kinda the opposite. Here, the Sea Monsters are the ones on defense here, and the humans are the ones who struck first. And this was all because a king and queen(and subsequently the Crown itself) painted the sea monsters as threats just to extend their rule. Kinda like the Red Death. While there are similarities, there’s a bit of a swap on who’s defense, and who’s offense. I also wanna point out something. In HTTYD, it was ONE human who managed first eye-to-eye contact with their respective animal partner. Here, it’s two humans. There’s also the fact that while Dragons have covered areas like land, sea, and air(thanks to them being dragons), the Sea Monsters are limited to the sea(and land for some of them). With that, the action is slightly different. Another is that while HTTYD focuses on essentially the heir to the Berkian throne(that being Hiccup), the Sea Beast focuses on two ordinary people. And yes, both of them wouldn’t be exactly normal people if they fought dragons, but they’re not of any bloodline that’s like royalty. And also, SPOILER ALERT, the ending kinda plays out more like Luca’s ending with how they resolved the monster-hating population conflict. Though this time it was by revealing the truth, as opposed in Luca in which they revealed that Sea Monsters aren’t that bad. And that some have already made themselves in society. Just thought I point that out.
Lucky most of the hunters didn't have massive beards to rendure like the vikings in HTTYD did but trust me "The Sea Beast" animators really showed off great character modeling in every scene despite the usually difficulties that come from adding water to the equation.
It’s not the difference of air pressure actually. There’s a clear flap ruby/red uses that let’s air back in. Some animals do have a protective membrane over their nostrils to prevent water from getting in, i swear i just love ruby/red even more!
I say that the first time too and it made me really happy that their was a more realistic reason that the humans could see through Reds nostrils under water. Good job to the animators and writers for making such a little detail make sense in this universe.
Honestly the beast being red really makes it stand out in its scenes in the water but also seem like it belongs there like the red helps it blend it kind of thing, it’s hella cool! Honestly, it’s design choice was perfect
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Definitely feels like How To Train Your Dragon but it was very fun and I liked it a lot. Red the Red Bluster was such a cool creature and gave me toothless vibes lol just by her facial expressions. I hope we get more on this show like a mini series or something. Also the creature designs were really cool as well. So were the characters. Captain Crow hunting for the Red Bluster reminded me of Captain Ahab hunting for Moby Dick
When Maisie stopped Red from wanting to devour Captain Crow it reminded me back when hiccup stopped toothless from killing his father. There were so many httyd references in this movie, which is a reason why I loved it so much.
6:00 - 7:00 I agree, that scene is absolutely terrifying. It's nightmare fuel to be in the situation of being in a large dark body of water and knowing there's something else in there with you MUCH bigger than you are.
I had a dream a few days ago in which a raptor was chasing me and I hid in some bushes hoping it won't find me... and it was night time... I'm legitimately terrified...
@@goddessofchaos2679 I love this movie, I really do. But because of that scene I dont want to dip my head underwater in a beach in fear of seeing something bigger than me lurking from the deep.
The captains consequence is that he lost his ship, his crew, his very way of life being a hunter, and his son. He lost it all, he was left with nothing at the end of the movie because being a hunter and that life style consumed him. Now that he doesn't have that, he doesn't even have his son anymore, because his drive to kill pushed him away. Those were his consequences and now he must live with them all
Which is weird, since, from his perspective, he was in the right. Heck, from our perspective he was pretty valid. Because we learned that Sea Monsters WILL eat humans, and WILL kill humans. Remember the crab? The only reason it didn't eat him is because Red fought it off. We, and they, have no reason to believe that Red isn't just an exception. Obviously, the story is written in a way that assumes we should just roll with it, but it never portrayed it well enough for me to buy it, and thus I couldn't enjoy the movie. I was left baffled the entire time.
@@cortster12 so we should just genocide the sea beast *BECAUSE OTHER SEA BEASTS EAT HUMAN?* I dunno man we're not clean here we killed them and they killed us
Crow gave up monsterhunting though just like Jacob. Him and Jacob are probably in good standing at the end of the film since they both agree on monsters
@@cortster12 ... Welcome to reality. Most people, who do some of the most heinous crimes (Mr. Moustche Man being the prime example) legitimately thought they were, both morally, objectively and subjectively, in the right. That what they did was going to allow their people to prosper where everyone else was stifling. In this movie, animals are being animals. You have predators in real life that would eat humans just as much as the fish they catch or the deer they hunt. They're not bad. They're, literally, just animals being animals.
I think the CONSEQUENCES that Captain Crow got... is actually loosing his son and his legacy being cancelled as a monster hunter. He gets no victory. He was returned with nothing and regret. The witch didn't specify anything, but it is true that every deal has an outcome
Honestly this is a lot different from most movies lately, in which the main characters are actually shown to have intense injuries. (The stitches on Jacob, the bleeding from Maisie, and many more.) And agreed it COULD be a horror movie if anyone edited it, especially the scene where Captain Crow was dragged down the depths of the ocean
Saw that movie yesterday, definitely a 7 or 8 for me easy They actually managed to make a lil girl protagonist that's not utterly annoying, Good job Netflix
You sure? I thought maisie did a 180 way too quickly. It was realistic that she got scared but I think she bonded with Red and lectured Jacob far too quickly for it to be really believable. Definitely annoying for the first half of the movie.
I’m really gonna need a sequel to find out what happened to crow…cause I don’t feel like he was really a truly bad guy he was just consumed by anger and vengeance…I felt bad for him for losing everything and I’d love to see a sequel where we have some closure between him and Jacob
in my head canon, they invite him to sail with Red and at first he hates it but then naturally makes things easier for Red and the crew; like he'd come up with comfortable armor/storage she could wear, figures out how to get rid of barnacles, keeps them on course etc.
At the end of the movie, I did worry about what's going to happen to Crow. Like did he got arrested? Is he going to find a place to settle down in peace? Will he share his tales and the lessons he learned to the new generation?
I love this movie so much! It does such a good job of painting a clear picture of how the world is seen by people, and then when there are inconsistencies shown, the reality sinks in pretty much immediately for the audience and our protagonist. I love that it takes work to get other characters to change their perspective gradually, and with some people, they have to skip over it and blunt force their way to the objective when the cards are down. Can't recommend this enough.
I don't know what I was expecting, but the moment Red became friends with Maisie I just accepted what was coming. Pretty good overall, the only minor thing I can complain is about how smooth Red looks
She has tough skin thats why crow said to get like a bigger spear Even if she looks smooth she has very thick skin At the time where maisie was trying to pull out the spears on her it took her a long time to get it out
I liked the movie. The story was good and the monster design where pretty cool for a kids movie. They're somewhat scary not too cartoony . I also liked how much gory and serious they went in terms of blood and death scenes wich you rarely see in kids movies
I adored the design of that green sea beast! Had such a classic dragon-like head shape. Red was okay, very viper-like head, but it's a girl so of course she's all smooth and much more seal-like. Would have preferred following Green TBH. Overall enjoyed the movie; I liked the character designs and they all felt like they fit in the same world. Agreed that this would have been a WAY cooler followup to HTTYD, but oh well.
To be honest, I can see this movie branching to becoming a beloved franchise, kinda like HTTYD. Heck, it might have it's own TV series on Netflix. Man, I would definitely watch it.
12:20 the consequences are shown. The man he's come to love as a son turns on him, and his entire purpose for living, his honour, is taken way from him. He never gets the revenge he's spent the past 30 years striving for. In other words, everything he believed to be true and righteous is taken away from him, leaving him a shell of the man he believed himself to be. She never said that it would be a bad thing for anyone else. She said that she'll take it all away from him.
Just watched the movie after of the hearing it from this video. And I 100% agree, this would've made more sense as a sequel to the "How to Train Your Dragon" franchise. Had me truly excited and hope they consider continuing the story somehow.
Also, side note, the creature the call red definitely gave me "Toothless" vines. Especially in it's head shape and facial features. Just give Red some cute ears and remove the horn, and basically have his face
My favorite part of this movie is Red.Just Red.Her design, intelligence and love.Just amazing! My second favorite movie other than Back To The Outback.I hate NetFlix itself, but really, the movies it produces are the best.I can't wait to see if there is a The Sea Beast 2!Also,my favorite part of this video was your animated animal!Your little animal is so cuuuuute!!!
One other thing I wanna point out. I like how Red actually looks... feminine. You can see it in the shape of her eyes, mostly. Like, she's clearly feminine, but she's also a badass, and just as clearly radiates power. I just love the designs of the monsters.
Yeah I enjoyed this film too, It really does give out a How to train your dragon vibe, especially when you look at the creature designs, Mainly Red's design which kinda does resemble our favorite night fury friend with the way she grins and flashes her teeth similar to how Toothless does it, but her full design also reminds me of a Sea lion.
I actually really loved this movie, I thought it was going to be a bit corny but it really wasn't that bad! And I was surprised because well it was a Netflix movie and not all Netflix movies are good so I was really happy when this came out
After watching this movie twice i realized crow does loose everything, he looses his son, his legacy, his ship, and the career he and his family thrived in is dead. Hes lost everything of worth to him.
Very solid. Watched it with my kids. Great visuals, animation and voice acting, with enough to seperate it from Httyd. We all, quite rightfully, give Netflix a lot of shit, but rhey do deliver some quality im the sea of mediocrity. Never forget how damn good Klaus is.
The Captain did lose everything that defined him. He lost his job, he lost his adopted son and his prestige in a world that no longer honours the monster hunters as legendary heroes.
@@balrogsareop4773 no, he wouldnt have; they wouldnt have caught red, and so maisy and jacob would have no evidence for their claims. Jacob would likely have returned to the crew, maisy to the orphanage; and even if not, crow would likely still have had his crew, if he didnt take and use the weapon. The weapon sowed dissent within his crew, brought the monster to the kingdom and the truth to light, and led to the loss of everything that made him 'captain crow'. Without it he'd probably have either joined the navy or become a hunter in a different way, even with the royals trying to get rid of them-the navy ended up being ineffective, after all, they may have ended up decommissioned.
@@D3niz3n If crow hadnt caught Red, which from what we see he wouldnt have without the weapon, the hunters would have been decomissioned meaning he would have lost his crew (and his ship seeing as Jacob wagered it). Dont see him being interested in joining the navy seeing as hunting was his life and he was planning on retiring after catching red anyways. Jacob had already lost interest in hunting and become a monster sympathizer before Crow used the weapon, so that rift was already there.
The point of her was to show how far Crow went off the deep end. No honorable hunter goes to Gwen. And he willingly sold his ship and crew to her just to get his revenge. A character does not have to be important on their own. They may be a reflection of another character's inner turmoil, corruption, and/or etc.
Hello Alteori. THE SEA BEAST, it's like How to Train your Dragon but with sea monsters. There is some Godzilla vibe in this as well. Beautiful movie. Anyway, another great video, Alteori, I like it, see you in the next one.
@@Alteori yes the red bluster is like a godzilla type creature I mean it can walk on land and swim in the ocean So it's like a spinoff version of godzilla???....
Best animation of the year, Imo. Hands down. Honestly, it's 10 times better than what Disney has been churning for the last years, I loved it. The characters were well written, the designs are great, the story flows really nicely and all scenes are just amazing. You're pumped just by the first 20min of the movie, and it never gets boring! This movie alone got me hopes that we might start seeing a new wave of high-quality stories, let's hope it doesn't die too soon.
I don't know if they meant Blue to be a baby version of Red, maybe the males are blue kind of thing. But after getting to know Blue, I started calling it a "Pudge guppy."
@@AM-sj5vr yeah most likely a baby monster, especially after looking at the yellow monsters and how tiny their babies are to the parent. That and behavior wise, though that may just be due to the creators wanting a "puppy" in universe for the kid character to have as a pet and not actually an indicator of age/maturity of the creature. I've only seen as much as the review though so idk if there are any examples of monsters that are confirmed smaller species so for now, I'm going with hatchling and probably a very rare species, maybe even last survivor of a destroyed nest
Now that I think about it, this movie seems like it established quite a bit of content that could be fleshed out in a sequel. Like for example who is the witch and why does she specialize in killing monsters? And what does she actually take from those she helps? And then there is Blue who seems sorta like she's Red's baby but like it's also possible that she's an entirely different species. In fact a while storyline could be written with blue growing up and how that affects Maisie and Jacob. And also like what she even grows up to be is up for debate so it's really interesting! It's also very interesting to me that in a children's movie we see a father so blinded by hatred and fear that he seems to want to kill his only son 2 times, and it's obvious he loves him. And yet he could one hundred percent be redeemed despite what he did. Captain Crow is a good father with a huge flaw that threatens everything, it's so complex I just absolutely love it!!!
12:22 I think the consequence that he faced was his son turning against him but in the end everything turned out well but if they make a 2nd movie we could see how guilty he is or if he's still evil
HTTYD was mostly about the dragons though. this film featured sea beasts, but it was about how people perpetuate their own problems, it has way more heart than style. it's weird how focused people are about comparing them when the aesthetic is the closest thing
I don’t have Thalassophobia, but honestly speaking, if I’m in a body of water that literally exceeds it’s limits, and theirs something huge as hell swimming up to me, then I would definitely be terrified. Just imagine seeing an eye of a creature, then seeing it’s entire body hover over or under you. That’s scary as hell
I watched The Sea Beast and it was incredible and so cool! Totally gave me How to Train your Dragon vibes! Imagine this show having a spin-off tv series like with DreamWorks Dragons, and how it could explore different kinds of sea beasts. Better yet, this movie should have a sequel.
I had HTTYD vibes really early in the movie too! I was spooked at 6:06 too. That would be terrifying to see, and then when it fades away into the depths...
The creepy part of this film is how red was just looking at jacob and maisie and went down in the ocean completely disappeared and than came back to save them both from captain crow aka black beard look alike
Idk but I feel that if there is a second movie the "consequence" will be him turning into a gian sea monster, an the idea of humans turning into giant monster being a thing like a curse
I saw the thumbnail for this, went and watched it and my GOD what a phenomenal movie. The production value was great the characters were great the dialogue was great. Also I swear that Jacob is inspired by Edward Kenway
Oh hell f*ck*ng no! I got Thallasophobia watching that scene! My body was like a rock. And this is just an animation. But just the thought of it run shivers down my spine
6:54 I had to replay this scene a few times. Goosebumps just by looking at the difference in scale under the deep sea with nowhere to go, then she just disappears lol.
Just ONCE I want to see a monster movie where everyone thinks the monsters are harmless and innocent creatures, except for one person, and that one person turns out to be right
This being How to Train Your Dragon in the future actually makes a lot of sense as Titan class dragons wouldn't have gone to the Hidden World, giving them time to evolve and become more terrifying, while also losing some of their abilities
I loved this movie so much, was an absolute blast to watch. It was written well, the characters were cool and the movie is just gorgeous to look at. I had a smile on my face from beginning to end when watching this. And I still have that catchy as hell sea shanty from the credits stuck in my head.
the details are great and almost everything is great with this movie I love how Red is super kind and gentle with them, im like "this is going on my watch list right now"
My family and I watched this movie yesterday and the first thing that came to our mind after watching it was Monster Hunter. We enjoyed this movie alot.
Yeah, yeah, the monsters are cool and all, but every time the Inevitable made it's entrance with the red flares I got shivers. The scene with the inevitable framed between the sinking fragments of the 1st rate ship o' the line? More of that please.
To be fair, Captain Crow DID kind of loose everything in the end. His ship, his crew, his title as a Hunter, his LEGACY of a Hunter, his revenge and the only person he saw as a son. In the end, the witch was right.
I watched it with my kids the other day and was pleasantly surprised! Yes, it had "Dragon" vibes, but in the best of ways. The animation, the character designs, and story were all very well fleshed out. I'll be watching it again (I missed the first part only because I put it on for the kids) and will enjoy it further :)
I consider this red bluster monster more like godzilla than toothless sure I love both of them but because this creature is alot bigger than other creatures and has its predators like godzilla also it has godzilla roars in the background of the main roar
I finally got the chance to watch this movie. This was actually really good. This is one of those animated films for FAMILIES. Not just parents with kids, but even adults. It has an original story with original creatures. Nothing felt forced and it didn’t try to hard to be fun and stuff. Captain Crow was a beast himself, and they weren’t shy to portray that. I liked it.
One of my theories of why Red survived the poison is that when they pull the giant harpoon out you can see the poison still leaking out, meaning not all of it went into Red's blood stream
1:58 you forgot to mention how epic they looked when they were attracting the monster. The sails making that red glow when the flares go behind it *chefs kiss*
I loved a lot from this movie, with just a few complaints. But if I had to choose a thing that would be the intense and visceral moments with Captain Crow and Red (the editing and the score were simply superb when close to the ending the he hunts her). If you are a fan of Moby Dick, this is your movie.
Want more movies like these. From everything that came out this year or the last, this might be my favorite. The connection to the characters was there and I absolutely loved the animation.
I enjoyed this movie as well and would like them to do more perhaps exploring what's past the Draugmar or however it's spelled, 20/10 best monster crab design of 2022 and they made it purple and black my favorite color combo. There's not enough monster crabs in media
they made it so quick my arachnophobia kicked in seeing all those legs shuffling. I was gagging the whole time til she tossed it away LMAO 100/10 would love a crab sequel
if you haven't watched it you should definitely watch Love Death Robots season 3 episode 2. it's very gory and a different tone from this movie but it's very good!
i watched this movie last night and adored it. i think the fight scenes are really what made me love this so much- they just felt creative and fresh while still being very gritty and realistic. plus the animation was gorgeous and i loved the storylines so much.
the beginning scenes where we see the ship & Green sinking had major Life of Pi vibes. there are a lot of references in this movie, even Pirates of the Caribbean! 🥰
There’s one thing I remember from this movie thinking it was is this gonna go down like Moby Dick where the red blaster is it an obsession for those who seek it in for around half the movie I couldn’t figure out what was so familiar and then I realized it reminded me of how to train your Dragon
Watched it Yesterday and liked ist quite a Lot. Nice Details, deversity done right only the ending felt kind of short. Ist hast enough from httyd to geht nostalgic but its His own Story so ist mit a simple Clone The Scene in the water were amazing. wished more of this
Knowing captain crow, I actually thought he was going to shoot her. I realized after you talked about the woman crow makes a deal with, this movie leaves a lot unanswered and that makes me think they want to leave an opening for a show.
Watched it and I think I understand why the creature is so smooth maybe, or have a theory. It might be easier to animate (which would probably lower cost of animating it?) but also, Red might be a specific type of creature. The skin is thick and almost plate like in some areas, yet smooth. She is seen to ram into things quite often, maybe how slick her scales are not only make it easy to move agile and fast, but also to not get caught on things she’s rammed through. Also the point of the head looking like a salamander could maybe support some of my thoughts, maybe she is more salamander or amphibian like and so scales would be less likely? I liked some of the details on her though, there are some slight cracks in different areas and scuff masks on the front of the horn. Could also just be a species thing or a design thing. (Less things to grab onto means less things possibly lost in a fight.) I wish there was a bit more explanation on how the war started, I get the message of it being more important how it ended, but it could end up being another movie explaining what happened. Also the captain seemed to have a lot of wish for vengeance for just his dead light/eye been taken? It seems like there might’ve been more lost but I’m unsure. So many cool stories which could be told with this universe, such as the story of the monarch. Though I do wonder what the ‘everything’ the captain was supposed to lose is, because he almost maybe gained a new insight, and lost everything that he was but became someone new. Some of the small details like sparks off a rock were cool to see also. Overall I really enjoyed this movie. I like how they weren’t afraid to show some gore/blood, and how when the child got hurt it was realistic with her needing some blood transfusions. Also I think the military guard is female maybe? Could be wrong. Enjoyed the story and how there was some character development and character representation. Thanks for another great video!
I never thought Blue sounded like a Compy, that's such a good comparison! I was so emersed in the movie feeling like How To Train Your Dragon that I thought Blue sounded like a Terrible Terror in one of my favorite scenes from the first movie. Where Hiccup comments that "Everything we know about you guys is wrong", where in this movie as well, that line holds true.
4:15 You actually forgot to mention the strange scene during this scene where basically they're suddenly cut off from red being dragged by the boat to another Red Crest in the ocean with the seagulls personally that made me think that there are 2 and red is not the one there looking for Please tell me I'm not the only one who fought that
even Capt. Crow looks like Long John Silver from Treasure planet. It’s ok I guess, It’s Moby Dick, How to Train Your Dragon, other stow-away-kid-adventure stories, and a little sprinkle of Treasure Island and Pirates of the Caribbean especially in the opening.
Red in the movie is designed to perfectly float between docile, frustrated and absolutely terrifying like the scene in the water or when it was about to kill the admiral
I liked it, never got too preachy and every character felt like a real person with ideals and aspirations. Crow deserved what he got, but making it an actual learning moment for him instead of dragging him through the mud made that ending so much better. Definitely look forward to more of the IP, if they make more.

"You can be a hero, and still be wrong"
That was a powerful quote.

Overall, I really like this movie, and the people from Big Hero 6 and Moana worked on it!
I fucking hate big hero 6 and moana
oh that’s why it’s so awesome
Literally better than the sum of their parts if Im being honest.
Maybe it’s like a “in three days you lose everything” since he still had the ship after buying the poison and “Hand of god”
And his reputation.
When you think about how this movie ended, that could've been what the witch meant when she told that captain that using the weapon would cost him everything. No doubt that the weapon lead to them bringing Red to the royal capital, that would lead to their exposure and ending the war between humans and sea beasts. Agreed. In the end, Crow lost his ship, his son and heir, probably his crew, his job, and his reputation. Pretty much anything that would matter to him.
Hmmm I like that. That makes sense!
Now this... This is the explanation we need.
And also maybe that is why we only have the ONLY SONG in the movie, Captain Crow, and why he feels more like a very important character.
He was viewed as a hero to the people, but he's becoming a villain himself. In the end, he didn't get his victory, no one is going to continue his legacy... and he became history.
Yea, that was my thought aswell.
7:49 in theory, its very possible that the Red Bluster is an anphibian, since there are some scenes when it walks on land. So yeah, not only it looks like a salamander but it probably is one.
Extra evidence: we've seen that it has no gills so its not a fish.
The brickleback has no gills but maybe it can walk on land like a reptilian creature?? Like a alligator??
That “Knuckle walking” thing, in my theory, is because one of animals referenced for the Red Bluster’s design are sea lions, which have a similar stance when on land.
such a perfect design, so good
That's what I thought!
That's exactly what came to my mind the first time I saw Red walk on land! Even her body design resembles that of a sea lion
Except there front flippers curve outwards like a hand while Red's curves inward. It's very distinct and I've never seen an animal look like that with the exception of gorillas, sloths and anteaters
@@Alteori Huh! I didn’t actually notice that! Welp perhaps the designers took a few creative liberties to distinguish her a tad bit from the otariid influence ^^
Another influence might be cetaceans, particularly the humpback whale.
“They’ve killed *hundreds* of us!”
“And we’ve killed *thousands* of them!”
"They *defend* themselves that's all!"
"They raid us because they *have* to!"
@@the_reptilian_researcher_360 Yes! I was hoping someone would continue that!
@@thtiger1
That’s…exactly what the movie does?
The 3D modelling and animation was the best I’ve seen in awhile. The hair and the fabric was almost perfect. So much to look at.
Lucky most of the hunters didn't have massive beards to rendure like the vikings in HTTYD did but trust me "The Sea Beast" animators really showed off great character modeling in every scene despite the usually difficulties that come from adding water to the equation.
I loved Maisie's hair
Man i thought it was animated by pixar or disney.
Man i thought it was animated by pixar or disney.
Sad that this movie isn't getting the big spotlight, like not everyone knows about it, literally hidden gem!
then again its still relatively new! though I do believe it just started trending on netflix a day or two ago
Good job to the animators and writers for making such a little detail make sense in this universe.
when she opened them and all the air whooshed in I audibly cheered lmao. it was such a small thing that could have been "magic"
The same way how I feel about Captain Crow my only complaint about the movie is that we really didn't get much about his backstory
I also really hope we get more from this. Maybe 2 more movies, a 6 season show and a holiday special.
The movie was inspired by Moby Dick, so right on the marker
Ah yes i also got that feel that Captian Crow and the Bluster are like Captain Ahab and Moby Dick
@@animezilla4486 If we get a series, they can elaborate on it.
My face when I saw it. 😦
I had a dream a few days ago in which a raptor was chasing me and I hid in some bushes hoping it won't find me... and it was night time... I'm legitimately terrified...
Thank you for putting such disturbing images in my head, I hope I sleep well tonight!!!
Yeah I was terrified seeing that lol the way it looked at them then disappeared into the dark like whyyyyyyyyyyy?!?!?!?? Lol
Him and Jacob are probably in good standing at the end of the film since they both agree on monsters
poor bastard really he was doing what he thought right
@@cortster12 ... Welcome to reality. Most people, who do some of the most heinous crimes (Mr. Moustche Man being the prime example) legitimately thought they were, both morally, objectively and subjectively, in the right.

(The stitches on Jacob, the bleeding from Maisie, and many more.)
And agreed it COULD be a horror movie if anyone edited it, especially the scene where Captain Crow was dragged down the depths of the ocean
Saw that movie yesterday, definitely a 7 or 8 for me easy
They actually managed to make a lil girl protagonist that's not utterly annoying, Good job Netflix
@@nailinthefashion that’s adorable and I love it ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
@@missa9030 thank you I hope it helps while we wait for a sequel that is definitely going to be produced no matter what 🤡🥲😉🌈💕

At the end of the movie, I did worry about what's going to happen to Crow. Like did he got arrested? Is he going to find a place to settle down in peace? Will he share his tales and the lessons he learned to the new generation?
I like how the world is filled with Water like One Piece and also love how Mazy hair was detailed with all that curls and such.
She has tough skin thats why crow said to get like a bigger spear
Even if she looks smooth she has very thick skin
At the time where maisie was trying to pull out the spears on her it took her a long time to get it out
Omg everyone says that 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 it's true though!!! I mean it makes sense because she is a water creature but she is VERY SMOOOOOTH 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣💀💀💀💀💀💀💀
I feel like it's also based on traditional ocean mammals which usually have smooth skin allowing them to glide through water faster.

Es el mi diseño de monstruo favorito :3
To be honest, I can see this movie branching to becoming a beloved franchise, kinda like HTTYD. Heck, it might have it's own TV series on Netflix. Man, I would definitely watch it.
I think captain crow actually lost everything. His crew, his son, his job. That's the consequence for his fixation on revenge.
Was about to say just this. 👍
This!
This movie highlights something that I think many creators nowadays forget or miss.
We don't want Realistic Fantasy
We want Believable Fantasy
The characters are pretty charming and Red appearance 6:46 underwater triggers every ocean related ptsd I have 😂. Seriously I damn near shat myself
This movie is more different than similar to How to Train Your Dragon
The way it just slides into the dark so gradually is unsettling. That something that big, that close, can’t be seen
Dude same! When I saw her face under the water I started screeching lolol one of my worst fears for sure
9:45 I love the monster commentary of "you know what? you look thirsty..." ((tidal wave washes Jakob away)) "...have some water."
Animation, voicework and score in this were totally incredible. But yeah the main beast had definite Toothless vibes to it.
Well, on the bright side, at least he now knows the truth, so he and the other monster hunters are no longer manipulated by their leaders.
Very solid. Watched it with my kids. Great visuals, animation and voice acting, with enough to seperate it from Httyd.
We all, quite rightfully, give Netflix a lot of shit, but rhey do deliver some quality im the sea of mediocrity. Never forget how damn good Klaus is.
Honestly a really solid movie with incredible animation and shots. Of course there are issues like what was the point of the Witch Lady?
The Captain did lose everything that defined him. He lost his job, he lost his adopted son and his prestige in a world that no longer honours the monster hunters as legendary heroes.
@@Ett.Gammalt.Bergtroll Thing is, he would have lost those things even if he didnt use the weapon.
I know Captain Crow and his crew are hunters, but they looked so much like pirates just by looking at them.
Hello Alteori.

Lmao I was thinking it looked like a pudgy goldfish with a guppy's personality while I watched this review. I love the idea of that name
Blue might be a baby monster
Captain Crow is a good father with a huge flaw that threatens everything, it's so complex I just absolutely love it!!!
this movie was amazing I love all the characters, Maisie is now one of my new favorite kid characters
12:22 I think the consequence that he faced was his son turning against him but in the end everything turned out well but if they make a 2nd movie we could see how guilty he is or if he's still evil
When Red was looking at Jacob and Mazy under the water was the part of the trailer that made me say. Yow I gotta watch this.
HTTYD was mostly about the dragons though. this film featured sea beasts, but it was about how people perpetuate their own problems, it has way more heart than style. it's weird how focused people are about comparing them when the aesthetic is the closest thing

Top notch movie. The idea that you can both be a hero to your kind and still be wrong was a great lesson.
To be fair, Captain Crow DID kind of loose everything in the end. His ship, his crew, his title as a Hunter, his LEGACY of a Hunter, his revenge and the only person he saw as a son. In the end, the witch was right.

(Less things to grab onto means less things possibly lost in a fight.)
I wish there was a bit more explanation on how the war started, I get the message of it being more important how it ended, but it could end up being another movie explaining what happened.
Kinda like a shark maybe or really fine scales? Idk man lol
@@limestream9987 She could actually be a new species of Elder Dragon. Like in the Monster Hunter games
4:15 You actually forgot to mention the strange scene during this scene where basically they're suddenly cut off from red being dragged by the boat to another Red Crest in the ocean with the seagulls personally that made me think that there are 2 and red is not the one there looking for Please tell me I'm not the only one who fought that
Its nice to find a youtuber who has some nice things to say about movies like this
even Capt. Crow looks like Long John Silver from Treasure planet. It’s ok I guess, It’s Moby Dick, How to Train Your Dragon, other stow-away-kid-adventure stories, and a little sprinkle of Treasure Island and Pirates of the Caribbean especially in the opening.
I’m happy this movie is getting attention! Its so good and the animation is beautiful!
This actually looks good I’ll give it a try
Red in the movie is designed to perfectly float between docile, frustrated and absolutely terrifying like the scene in the water or when it was about to kill the admiral
blue looks so doe eyed its cute
I liked it, never got too preachy and every character felt like a real person with ideals and aspirations. Crow deserved what he got, but making it an actual learning moment for him instead of dragging him through the mud made that ending so much better. Definitely look forward to more of the IP, if they make more.
