Great job explaining about super tech products! I’ve been changing my own oil for years, just because I don’t trust anybody. Once they pull the car out of sight, they can put any oil in they want, they can charge you for synthetic, and put synthetic blend in or anything, or any weight that they want, you have no way of knowing. Back in 95 I had a Ford Windstar, took it for an oil change to the muffler shop because I had a coupon out, and when I got home I check the oil and noticed it was way too much oil in the crank case, probably a quart too much. I took it back to them waited around for another hour till they had an open bay and they drained off a quart of oil. They told me they used Valvoline oil and Valvoline filters, but next spring when I went to change the oil myself, I noticed the Oil filter was on there, Was the one I put on last summer, so they didn’t change the oil filter but still put in 5 quarts oil that’s where the extra oil came from, needless to say ever since then I’ve been changing my oil, using the products I want to use. Thank you for sharing this video with super tech products, as I’ve always known Walmart to have cheap Chinese goods, but in this case I’ll be using super tech oil and Filters.
Years ago I worked in an auto repair shop, owned by a very crooked Irishman. He had us filling the same Castrol bottles. With cheap wolfshead motor oil. That came in 55 gallon drums.
I always change my oil. Live i. Pennsylvania. Runs same price. I'm 71 years old. At 70, I stopped and started to let a local chevy dealer do it. After 3 failed oil changes....in which I came home, waited about 20 minutes and checked the oil. Each time it was a half to ONE full quart OVER. Obviously they didn't drain all the oil and refilled at factory specs. I complained each time and got nowhere. So, back to dojng it myself and doing it right. I take the used oil to my regular mechanic and they use it in their used oil heater for the shop. Great video. Great all around advice. P.S., both my cars are at about 150K.
Great vid. I switched from Pennzoil Platinum high mileage and Mobil1 oil filter to SuperTech Full Synthetic high mileage and SuperTech oil for the last 5 oil changes in my 2006 Honda Odyssey with 180K miles and haven't noticed any difference. Van is running great and I'm saving $13 per oil change. I even found a SuperTech oil filter that fits my motorcycle. I bought 4 more filters in case Walmart decides to raise the price.
Yep that is close to $100 bucks savings, right there... I bet if you had money like the Bidens and it was no issue, you could get a UOA( Used Oil Analysis: about $40 a pop) and see you were getting as good of engine protection as the more expensive big name products.. It's all about advertising dollars. Saw a basic quart of Dino oil by Quaker State at almost $5 at Wally Mart.. That's ridiculous in most people's minds. GOOD VIDEO HERE AND GOOD LUCK 👍.....Thanx; Jethro
I was skeptical at first about putting the SuperTech full synthetic into my older car, but after I learned it’s manufactured by Warren Oil, I only use Supertech High Mileage Full Synthetic now because of the $20 oil change. I do it myself so it’s alot cheaper.
I've been using Supertech High Mileage Full Synthetic on my used vehicles for 2 years now. I started over 4 years ago before the new packaging came out. I change my oil regularly. No problems what so ever. Oil filters I use what ever is on sale.
I used to use whatever oil filter was on sale but now the super tech lower grade filter is so cheap nothing usually can compare at Walmart. That said I appreciate your feedback it helps the community and we appreciate you watching and commenting as well
This is all I have been using in my 2004 Saturn Ion with a 2.2 ltr ecotech. I have 290,450 miles. I change it every 5,000-6,000 miles. Supertech is re branded oil from Warren Petroleum Products.
Correct on being made by Champ lab , both of the Supertech filters are, and the only difference is the anti drain back valve... The more expensive (mp) version has a silicone anti drain back valve and the cheaper version (st) is made from nitrile rubber!! I have a few cut open on my channel if you are interested!! Nice video!!
Actually the stickers on your driver side door tell you what tire pressure your tires need, the tires themselves only tell you the max tire pressure your tires can take.. good video
Thats true but what on door not always correct example a 8 ply tire on my truck is 42psi max same tire in 10 ply is 60 psi but truck came with street tires shows on door 32psi so i generally like people to verify on tire as the designs and psi vary wildly . Thank you for watching and commenting
I use Super Tech 5w30 full synthetic high milage in my 07 Pontiac Vibe. 94000 miles. Change every spring and fall. I do use a ACDelco premium filter, I never go cheap on oil filters. Average mileage during the six-month period is around 5000 miles. Super Tech is perfectly fine engine oil for the everyday driver. If you have a performance engine, then I would use a factory specified engine oil. On my 2017 GMC Yukon I use Castrol Edge Dexos just because Castrol Edge claims to reduce the dreaded intake valve carbon buildup. I also installed a catch can to help elevate carbon build up on the intake valves. Sense I drive the Yukon only in the summer months, I change the oil and filter every spring regardless how few miles are on the oil. Sense Super Tech is now made by Mobil One, I may switch to Super Tech Dexos for my 5.3 Yukon. Should save a few bucks by doing so. Sense I am retired and live on a fixed income, every dollar saved makes a deference. Great video, thanks for sharing.
Love how you don’t bash the people who just don’t want to do it themselves. Other people usually do. But hey sometimes some people just don’t have the time or even a place to even change it themselves.
I change mine all the time. I used to work at Walmart years ago and there was one where basically they just charge the labor to do it. Customer brings own oil filter and oil in. That drain back valve is the only difference between the $3.00 and $5.00 supertech oil filter. Rest of the filter was exactly the same. Good video .
Been changing the oil in my own cars since 1980. Bought my first car 72 2dr LTD. I couldn't afford to get the Brakes, Tires or Oil, changed, so learned to do it my self! I am 60 now and still doing it all my self, because i don't trust anyone else to do it properly. In a million and a half miles of driving I have never lost an engine in any of my 8 cars. Been using Super Tec for years. I am up in Canada and my last oil change cost me about $40.00 (its over $110,00 at Valvoline)
Wow thank you for sharing. Yes agreed here it's about $85 USD for Valvoline. You clearly know how to maintain your vehicles Thank you for sharing your feedback on super tech oil We also appreciate you watching and commenting
I change my own oil. At each change, I check other fluids, clean the interior of the windshield, and add Lucas gas treatment or MMO to the gas. I also keep very detailed records of all maintenance including oil type use and filter.
Nope my door says 35psi but I have 8 ply tires which minimum pressure 55psi any less and you will run off the sidewalks essentially run them flat. Too many odd tire types now to just pay attention to door sadly.
Great video, spot on. The drive-through shops have high margins, and are good for people that just want it done. I get it, they have their niche, and fulfill it well. However, if you want to DIY, SuperTech is great oil. Been using it in my '19 Ford Ranger w/o any issues. I tow a 4k lb camper and it just hit 50k miles. I change it according to the on-board OCI monitor. Can easily save $10 per 5qt. jug at Walmart with ST oil, as you state. It all adds up, for sure. I use the ST gear oil in the diffs, trans fluid in my transfer case, never an issue. Well done video Sir. Thank you.
That is an excellent way of showing everyone real world numbers on your vehicle. Thank you for taking the time to type out such a great comment. It's easy for people to say things but showing people by doing is the real way we all learn. Thank you for sharing your real world experience
I always change the oil on my cars , I used to put Mobile 1 oil and also the Mobile oil filter on my cars but I made some resurgent on the supertek oil and the filter to and I discovered that supertek products are great then I started using supertek products and they work perfect and I'm saving money buying supertek products. Thank you for you video it's great
Thank you for the feedback I'm glad to hear it's working well for you. Thank you for taking the time to comment and share your information with the community it's appreciated
Super video, professional quality and great job. I have always changed oil in my truck because I've seen too many service personnel put the drain plug back in the pan with oil still running out leaving dirty oil in the crankcase. I used Valvoline synthetic blend until retailers here stopped carrying that brand then switched to Castrol Syn Blend. Lately I've been using Havoline Full Synthetic High Mileage that comes in a box of six quarts, just right for the Ram, and Fram Tough Guard filters. I'm going to take a look at the Super Tech oil and filter. When I was in the tire business we used Champion filters and in 18 years of that business we did not have a single oil filter failure, Champion makes good stuff. After that I owned a auto parts store and sold Hastings, Wix, Fram and a filter labeled as Parts Plus Trust that I am certain was manufactured by Champion. All of those filters were of good quality and I don't ever remember having one returned with quality issues. Of course the Hastings and Wix brands were higher priced units. My truck isn't driven much any more last time I changed oil there was 6,000 miles put on during the year and it is used to drive short distances, Wal Mart is about 3 miles from home. The truck is used to pull a camper and I'm thinking the Super Tech oil will be a good choice although there is not much difference in the price of the Havoline Synthetic.
Wow great detailed comment thanks for sharing give it a shot if it doesn't treat it as good you can always go back to your old oil appreciate you watching and commenting
In CA, I like Super Tech products and all of what you said is correct. I have 4 cars I change oil on, 01 Volvo XC70, 04 Lexus ES330, 05 Toyota Corolla & a 07 Ford Focus. I am currently using the Kirkland full synthetic 5W-30 from Costco on all of them. It's made by Warren also. The ST filters are ok but usually get OEM ones from Rock Auto or Amazon. The Volvo being European has the canister insert type filter, Mahle or Mann are best. For the Focus, the Motocraft OEM are $4 at Wal Mart so I go with them.
Those Motocraft oil filters are by far the best quality oil filter out there for $4.00. I would recommend checking to see if Motorcraft has any filters which fit your Toyota, Lexus, or Volvo. I know Dodge/Chrysler guys who run Motorcraft filters. They are a good upgrade from the Super Tech filters although cost a buck more lol
I change my own oil and use Kirkland synthetic 5W30 for the Accord and Mobile 1 5W20 for the CR V. The Kirkland is $27 CDN and the Mobile 1 is $36 CDN on sale. Costco doesn’t sell the 5W20 in their stores but you can order it on line for $10 extra. My gripe is the oil filter from the Honda Dealer now cost $16 each and I’m looking for another supplier. I change the oil every 4-5000 Km. The Honda Dealer charges $105 to change the oil using conventional oil. It’s about $130 using synthetic oil.
The only thing I spend extra money on is a fram ultra oil filter. Instead of being rated at 30 microns it’s rated for 20 Moncton filtration. But because my engine is clean I change my oil every 5000 miles and run the filter for three oil changes. It ends up being the same cost and I’m getting better filtration
Smaller filtration means it clogs faster but 5k not bad. I no longer use fram filters personally but whatever works for you at end of day. The fact that you follow up with doing oil change on regular basis puts you well ahead of most people.
I’ve always changed my own oil on my 99 OBS Tahoe and I always use Mobile 1 syntethic and AcDelco filter. After watching a bunch of oil comparison filters I will be switching to the Supertech sythetic as well. I’m not sure if I’ll swith away from the Delco filter but defintely going to this new oil. I think it’ll run me about half of what I was spending before. I just bought some Suepertech R134a refrigerant and it was $8.88 compared to Napa which charges $14. Supertech is taking over and I’m glad it is.
I recently just switched to Kirkland 0W20, two jugs for $66 in Canada. As I found out it made by Warren the same place as Supertech. Supertech is a bit cheaper at $24 than Kirkland. I was a diehard fan of Amsoil Signature series since the truck was new, great oil but very expensive. Also do my own changes, its piece of mind .The next will be Supertech. Cheers from Nova Scotia
I have heard many reviews on Kirkland that it's very good. The Peace of mind of doing your own oil change as well as the saving the money is an amazing feeling. Glad to see other good people in other good countries doing the same Thanks for taking the time to watch and to comment it's appreciated
I have always changed the oil in all our family vehicles (25yrs) I had always bought name brand but at a sale price.(frugal) Past few years, I have switched to supertech synthetic and more recently their filters. Now, if I owned a supercar (vette/porsche/ferrari) I would consider paying for something more expensive. Clean/changed oil is key, and supertech meets/exceeds all necessary benchmarks.
If I bring the oil and filter the garages around here in central Wis. charges anywhere from 19-28 bucks. Call the car dealers in your area to see how much they charge if you bring the oil/filter, you might be surprised. Anything more than 30 bucks and they're ripping you off. And look into a EZ oil drain valve, it'll make your oil changes so much easier.. Ordered 2 yesterday.
8:14 The correct air pressure is on a sticker when you open the driver door. Pressure on the tire is the max. I'm sure you know that and just made a mistake, but I wanted to mention it for those that are still green.
But as i mentioned when another comment said same my doors on chevy truck say 35psi but i have 12 ply wrangler tires 80psi max if you set them 35psi you would ruin the sidewalls . Always refer to tires especially if aftermarket tires or rims
For anyone reading this you should check your doors and you should check your tires as well as under the hood on the sticker if you can't find it on the door or check your owner's manual.
2 years ago? I think the walmart oil change has gone up quite a bit since then (last I saw I think it was $40), but I only pay for it to get done if I don't have time and it's bad. I just looked up the ST oil today. The Synthentic is around 25 now with the basic being like $18. Iowa
I really believe these new smaller engines really need be done at 20% at latest . My fit def starts lose gas mileage at that point which shows loss of motor efficiency. Thank you for watching and commenting we appreciate it

I’m in East Texas and Super Tech used to be a lot cheaper for full synthetic here. Like 14 bucks 5 quart jug. The price jumped to 19.00 dollars here when they introduced the new 20k mile full synthetic.
It's $19.98 here in Pennsylvania for the 5qt 0w20 super tech my Tacoma uses. I've seen it go up in the last year with everything else. Still it's a few dollars less than Mobile,Penzoil and Castrol The Cheveron oil I can't seem to find in my area now.
Up here in Ontario Canada it's costing me 50 bucks using Mobil full synthetic and filter . That is when oil is on sale . I do it myself and have seen it on the shelves and watched videos on it ..Might give it a try because it is usually cheaper at regular price when the Mobil I use is on sale. Sweet video . tks
What do you think about the ( Super Tech Advanced Full Synthetic Motor Oil ) It covers ll versions of there oils. Reg / High Mileage etc. Dig deeper into it.
It covers more viscosities but it's also more expensive. The point of this video was just to do the absolute budget obviously if you want to spend the few extra bucks it's probably well worth it
You can also take your old motor oil to your local town highway garage for recycling. They usually have a couple of tanks outside of the garage one marked oil only and the other one for coolant/antifreeze. You might also want to purchase some drain plug washers so you can change it or if you lose it. You can get those individually or in a pack of 10 from the auto parts stores or Amazon.
I have no problem running the Super Tech full synthetic. I have been buying the twelve quart boxes of 5w30 for some time now. I run it in a 2002 Ford Ranger and a 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix and also in a new Ariens snow blower. Why pay significantly more for something like Mobil 1 or Pennzoil Platinum that is only marginally better? I do run Amsoil XL in my 2019 Ford F-150 for protection of the twin turbos and direct injection.
You make a good point about the Napa filters. They are made by the company who produces WIX oil filters. Also Napa oil is valvoline motor oil it’s just packaged in a Napa brand bottle. It’s very similar to your example of Mobil one oil branded as super tech and that was nice to know that Mobil 1 bought warren oil company I didn’t realize that and thank you for sharing 👍
I always use Supertech Advanced Full Synthetic w/ Mobil 1 Filter in my 2010 Toyota Venza V6. Oil changes are $35. Have to buy 7 quarts for it (takes 6.4). In Chicago IL, oil performs well in the winter too. I don't hear any cold start ticks. 166,000 miles. Oh and if I wanted my local shop to change my oil with my own filter and oil it's just $20, comes in handy when it's below zero and it has to be done.
Wow solid setup and good price for when it really cold out. I just actually had to get out and do ours today and even at 22° it was chilly. Thanks for watching and commenting we appreciate it
From my experience working on vehicles and heavy equipment a good filter is just as important or more important than the oil. I've sent many oil samples to the labs to be tested. The oil always gets dirty and contaminated long before it starts to break down. As far as filters I would also recommend adding wix, Napa, Baldwin, and fleetguard filters to that list.
Glad to hear it. Seems like most people that are commenting say the same thing that it's a good quality product. Appreciate you commenting and watching
I'll be honest 90% of the people that work in these lube shops are underpaid and undereducated. Unless it's just putting on tires rotating I do not use them. I'm sorry that happened to you. But it's not worth paying anyone to do it if you literally have the energy to do it yourself.
I run Super Tech High Mileage in both my '05 Chevy Equinox &' 12 Ford Escape. Super Tech filters for both as well. Just over $20 with tax. I haven't had a problem with either these cars or previous autos I've had over the years. Like The Frugal Homestead, I also live in Ohio. Salem,OH to be exact.
Lol ohio in the comments love it. Glad get more real world experience here to share with everyone. Appreciate you taking the time to comment and share and for watching the video.
I've used Super tech oil in all my cars *except* our new RAV4 because SuperTech doesn't offer a 0-w16 weight. They did for a time, but apparently pulled it for reasons related to certification. I've done demo videos for oil changes on all my cars on my own channel, and if you haven't tried it, it is SO simple!!
I use supertech on my 03 ranger that I put 90 miles a day in for my long commute to work. I change it every 3-4k for safe measure and its affordable so why not? On my 2013 ram 1500 that I rarely drive I use mobil 1.
SuperTech is fine oil, so are their oil filters. I buy their bulk boxes, 12 quarts in the box, have two Honda vehicles to service. And Honda is smart, they use the same oil filter across the models.
Exactly. For us Honda owners there is nothing better than this. Especially if you have to change it very often like we do doing DoorDash etc. haven't looked at the 12 quart box price ill check that out. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment
Exactly what I was hoping for in the comments real world people talking about the product with real world examples. Thank you for taking the time to watch and to comment and share your experience with the community it's appreciated
This is good advise. I been looking for a good oil that is affordable and readily available for my 2020 Tacoma since my Toyota care services are used up. I've always done my own oil changes since I started driving so not new to me. I have always preferred a name brand oil but I'm seeing my local stores don't have the same brands on hand all the time in these weird times of supply problems. Super tech seems to be the though. The super tech 0w20 meets all the same specs as Mobile 1 and Penzoil platinum too. So I'm going to go with that and change it 2x a year or 6,000 miles. I can't get on board with the super tech filter because my truck like other Toyota vehicles takes an oil filter element that goes in a permanent housing. They don't seem to have those in the super tech brand. I will just keep buying the Toyota brand for about $7.
Sounds like the perfect compromise and setup. Glad you found something that was economical as well as conforms to what your vehicle needs We also appreciate you watching and commenting
No odd smell not sure where that came from. We run it in both of our Hondas as well as my old truck I know people using it in brand new cars. I think you'd be quite surprised how good it is
@@thefrugalhomestead7873 ya in some reviews I’ve seen them say it has a weird “burning” smell right outside the container. Apparently it has nothing to do with the quality but idk. lol
@@thefrugalhomestead7873 yeah I’ve been doing more research on oils. In my 21 civic I’ve only had the dealer do it so far. No issues at 41K miles. But I know how to do an oil change and a transmission fluid change. So I figured I may as well start doing it myself, yeah the dealer benefits me with paper work and little check ups but I doubt that’s important as saving 40-60$. I was looking into valvolone, stp, pennzoil or this. I know Warren makes it and that company produces amazon basics as well. Project farm had super Tec doing better on a lot of areas than even mobil oil which is surprising
@@thefrugalhomestead7873 people probably think it sucks cuz it’s at Walmart, but Walmart can buy and sell products at whatever prices they want. Even car workers and stereos.
Great video man. Just to put this out there, I just had Fram split on me after about 3100 miles. I know we all know about the cardboard insides but this was a whole other kinda eff’d up situation. I had just gotten back from a 800 mile round trip and in this car I didn’t have my tools in. So just beware folks. I ordered my last Orange filter. Yeah, I do keep one on hand because of emergencies like this one but next time I’m going with ANY of the others. Just throwin’ this story out there.
I'm going to try to convince my local Walmart to put in Supertech Full Synthetic 0W20 and a Supertech oil filter on my 2020 Mitsubishi Mirage when it's due for an oil change in about a week. I don't know why they make a stink about not using their brand since it does meet the API Front starburst for gasoline engines and the rear donut that states it rated at SP/SN+ when my car only needs SN. What problem do they have with their store brand motor oil? The Mitsubishi manual states it only needs full synthetic 0W20 that has a API rating of at least SN. I make it a point to change my oil and oil filter every 5000 miles.
The latest conversation with our local walmart they only use a standard oil or a blend not a true synthetic . But i do all my own now as i seen too many pull out without oil plug or missing or loose lig nuts The final straw for me was I took a truck in and told them directly to their face as well as the mechanic do not use an impact on these rims so without listening to me they put an impact on the lug nuts and sheared them. Then they called me and said you need to come pick up your truck we can't change the tires on it I get there and all the lug nuts are stripped they didn't just do one tire they stripped all of they refuse to have it towed or do anything else to help me so I took it home and had to hammer sockets onto it breaking tons of sockets and ratchets which they were willing to replace out of Walmart products only but still never have Walmart touch my vehicles again
That's only if you put the standardized tire on your car on my truck for example inside the door it'll tell you 35 to 45 PSI depending on if it's the 15 or 16 in. But in fact I have eight ply tires on my truck which call for a minimum of 55 lb of pressure . If you put 35 or 45 lb and then they look flat and will not run correctly. So going off the side of the tire is the best solution
@@thefrugalhomestead7873we have two HR-V’s in our family. I do all the maintenance on them. We’ve had them for the last 3 years, and they’ve been great! Now, if you listen to the auto enthusiasts doing the reviews on. HR-V’s on TH-cam videos, they’re gonna say boring, underpowered, utilitarian, blah blah blah. They don’t understand everyday drivers and their everyday needs. Granted, HR-V’s aren’t race cars, but then that’s no Honda’s target market, is it?
the honda fit will probably last you for a long time, we had a 2012 fit at our delivery company, that car has 435K and still doesn't use oil, it is sidelined now due to a failed transmission, I change my own oil in my 08 crown vic, I use Valvoline high mileage syn blend, I get 6 quarts and Motorcraft filter at Walmart for less than 30 bucks which is way cheaper than Autozone or any other automotive place
No one lubes any doors or hatches here in ohio. Thats a cool idea. Whats a spirit orb? If you mean a floating circle no clue lol could be a family member hanging around
I use supertech full syn and an OEM filter on all my sister's cars. I use Pennzoil Platinum in my own but it's a direct injection turbo car that sees high temps and hard use and it's what I've used from the first oil change.
@@thefrugalhomestead7873 . You need to try the new supertech advanced full synthetic, I've been using the super tech high mileage full synthetic on my 98 and on my 2008 Toyota corolla and just recently 4 months ago I noticed the advanced full synthetic at Walmart for only 20 dollars advertised for 20 thousand miles protection and because my corolla has no leaks so technically I don't really need high mileage I decided to try the advanced full, I really didn't expect my of a difference but immediately I noticed a huge difference in performance specially going uphill way more smoother and at least 33% better acceleration if not 50% and after 5 thousand miles the oil still looked clean and the performance stayed at the same level but of course I decided to change it at the recommended 5 thousand miles change intervals, but for some reason Walmart raised the price to 27 dollars but 7 extra dollars is worth it my car loves this oil and from my experience from having used pennzoil platinum full synthetic I can honestly say the supertech advanced full synthetic is way better..
@@awakeandalive4248 interesting... My issue with the 20k formula is i feel i would need to change to the higher quality supertech filter making the whole oil change around 32 dollars . We of course are different as we use our vehicles for gig work aka DoorDash GrubHub ect so 2 to 3 months between changes. The start and stopping is murder on a vehicle. That said after your suggestion i think i will go to the 20k in my truck from now on. Lucky with this comment the whole community can benefit from your experience. Thank you for commenting and sharing your experience it is appreciated
@@thefrugalhomestead7873. Lol I do Grubhub and Uber eats, but like I said I ignore the 20 thousand miles part and just use the oem Toyota filter and change the oil filter every 5 thousand miles an extra 7 dollars is worth the improvement in performance, I had used pennzoil, Mobil 1, valvoline ,Castrol, royal purple the full synthetic version and none of this oils made any difference on my old Toyotas it kind of makes me wonder if that's how good Amsoil is but I'm not trying Amsoil way too expensive and like I told an Amsoil sales person I don't care how good an oil is I'm not leaving it in my car for 25000 miles.
Pretty much what I use on my 2018 accord sport, but I buy the advanced full synthetic now, supposed to be a little better than the regular full synthetic supertech. $2 more for the 5 quart jug at $19, plus $3 for the filter, still only $24 or so with tax.
@@thefrugalhomestead7873 yeah man, I don’t go beyond 5000 miles between oil changes anyways, but I figure if this advanced version can hold up better in those 5000 miles then even better. There’s also a slightly better oil filter that’s rated for 20000 miles, but after someone opened both of them up, the only difference is that the more expensive one had a silicone ring inside instead of your regular rubber, I guess that’s where the longevity is at, so you can go longer with the same filter, but I replace it at 5000 miles anyways, it’s irrelevant.
People keep saying that but that is not true as an example. My truck says to put 35 lb of pressure in my tires but I have standard 10 ply tires that take 65 max but require 50 just to hold the sidewalls up.
I agree with the commenter. Proper tire pressure ensures the full width of the tire is in contact with the road. Too little pressure you'll have excessive wear on the edges, too much you'll have too much wear in the center. This will also be dependent on the load of each tire which is defined by the vehicle weight. The car manufacturer defines the optimal pressure based on the weight distribution of the vehicle. You may need to increase the pressure if you are adding load to the vehicle as could be the case for a truck. The tell all is the actual wear you are seeing on the tires assuming proper alignment, the adjust the pressure accordingly. I use a depth gauge when I rotate the tires to check wear across the tread.
There a speed setting on TH-cam to play at a faster or slower rate . But some people literally have no understanding of cars. At all and this video was created for them. The visuals at least give them a basic idea of how oil change works. But as always you cant please everyone . Thanks for watching and commenting
todays prices have changed a little. the filters are now selling for five dollars plus and the oil if you can find the five thousand mile oil is selling for 24.00 dollars.
Every location is different it's important to remember that there's two grades of filters the cheaper filter here is still $3 in Ohio The 10,000 version for my Honda which is 0W-20 is exactly $20 which makes this oil change $23. Obviously price is very by location and as you mentioned stock can be an issue
@@thefrugalhomestead7873 nicely done on the video. I’ve been using the SuperTech oils for nearly 30 years now. I even use the Fram filters (the upper-tier ones). The secret is consistent oil change intervals. And the SuperTech has the API and ILSAC specs. Good enough for me! 😃👍🏼
I believe $10-15 can be done on a lot of things like going less trips to coffee shops or fast food restaurants, less orders from ebay or amazon, less wasting money on every other crap in stores except for buying motor oil. Luckily in the US it is really cheap while engines repairs are not. Just pay extra $10 and get your vehicle some decent oil like Mobil1 or Pennzoil. They have higher quality of base stock and polymers plus better additive package. I understand when people buy cheap when their car sits mostly in the garage but since you drive a lot, you need to invest in something good something of a better quality, to get good. It is not cheap because of bulk purchases. All stores buy in bulk. It is just of lower grade. Can it work in some applications?! Of course. But does it work as good as more expensive oil?! Absolutely not. And Amsoil and Red Line is extreme for regular driving, I agree, you dont need that.
Better is relative. That said All of my vehicles are running great. You can go through the comments and see all the people that use this product and how happy they are with it. As I explained in the video I usually get less than 2 and 1/2 to 3 months before I have to change my oil. Over 100,000 miles on my car zero issues. That said a red line oil change would cost triple what each of mine do.
@@thefrugalhomestead7873 Thank you for the response. Very good and I truly hope it works for you quite well. There are very many happy users of it. It is just being something cheap and good is so rare these days and simply thinking that there is some Warren Dist company who makes minimal profits just for sake of their customers by selling their oil so cheap is a bit naive. I checked its chemical elements compound and physical properties and I kind of realized why it costs cheaper then other brands. The amount of antiwear/anti-friction additives and detergents is lower. Also, physical properties show lower coefficients as well for example kinematic viscosity at 100C is only 8.3 when Mobil 1 and Pennzoil have 8.8 and for 0w20 being already a pretty thin oil the difference of 0.5 is quite significant. Other parameters like Flash point is also lower being only 420 vs 450-460. I can assume that the base stocks that they use maybe quite same but those additives is what actually make a huge difference that preserve your engine for long term trouble free performance. So all this kind of leads me to a conclusion that it is an ok oil for some time and it is for customers who want to save right now a couple extra bucks for an extra pizza slice and who do not think longterm, and I believe there are lots of like these. Not every dude out there run his car for 100K+ miles, right. Also, issue with lower quality oil are not visible right away. It really takes time - years and many miles actually to see why your engine is gunked up while your neighbors car still runs after 200K miles with no issues. It is like with health, one can eat junk food and use alcohol and tobacco for some time, life does not end there, but after years of such consumption problems do happen. Well, I have come to crossroads in my life where I think that the older the car gets the more frequent oil change it requires, and if I am about to start changing oil every 3,000 miles instead of like 5K-6K I used to do, maybe there is a point to switch to something simpler like Supertech but looking into the numbers I do not see that this oil can provide decent protection for this 3000 mile interval. And when we deal with a new car, it does not matter as it will handle any oil while it is new, but with older car you might not want to experiment as it does not have that much life left in it.
WOW!! That is news for me, Mobil bought out Warren Distrabution! Hope Walmat doesn´t jack the prices up. Full Synthetic is a Group lll Hydrocrack Oil with a bit of PAO Group IV added so as to be classified as "FULLY SYNTHETIC!!" But it is not! It is a highly refined mineral oil.
I work at O'Reillys and people come in spending $60 - $80 on a oil change..completely unaware that walmart sells most of the same brand stuff for much cheaper. We sell mobil 1 oil for $10 more than Walmart for 1 gallon. Mobil 1 filter is also almost double what it costs at walmart. Insane.
Sure I am I know a lot of places people are stating that it's going up in price slightly but all oil is going up so currently at my Walmart it's still the best product for the best price.
Wix makes the filters. I run the high mileage full synthetic 0w20 in my tundra and sequoia, 5w30 in my sons 4.7 dodge 1500, along with the high mileage oil filter. It’s orders of magnitude less than mobil 1. 7 qt in tundra 6 qt in sequoia 6 qt in dodge A word of caution when buying oil from Walmart…. Unscrew the cap and make sure the foil seal is there, don’t want to buy someone’s used motor oil.
It has gone up two to $3 since I created this video but you go to Walmart and you buy the synthetic oil and filter from supertech. Last time I went in it was $3 for the filter The 19.97 for the oil I've seen some people say it's a few dollars one way or the other depending on where you live
I just got an oil change at Walmart and requested Super Tech. This stuff is great for the price, 47$ for the full synthetic change and the Fram filter. Kinda worried about the filter because ya know, Fram.
@@zainrashid7438 but very pricey there are other quality options for less . that said you have seen filter break downs then u know about the fram orange can of death. you smart enough to avoid those
I change my oil at 3000 miles or 6 months. Whatever comes first. Use store brands that is made by Shell. The API rating and viscosity must be what your car manufacturer recommends. Very important
I put a lot of city miles on my 2002 S10 2.2 liter (stop & go traffic) I change it myself every 2000 miles.. & I do use 5w/30w High Mileage Kendall ✌Full Synthetic I buy it wholesale from my brothers auto shop $3.00 @ quart
Tire air pressure is based solely on gross vehicle weight. Correct Tire pressure will be posted normally on the door of the vehicle. Normally around 32psi. If you fill a tire to it’s maximum pressure (the number found on the tire itself) you will likely separate the belts that are inside the tread, and create a bubble on the tire that will feel like a repeating bump as you are driving. This mistake will encourage you to buy a new tire. Check the vehicle itself for the correct tire pressure. Not the tire itself. 😮
Another one of these comments. Okay so here's the example I'm going to lay out my truck has eight ply tires on it the working tire weight is 35 PSI on the door if I put that in my 8 ply tires they will be flat. My applied tires require 60 lb of pressure minimum. So now you do not always go off the door if you have heavier rated tires installed not to mention the 70,000 mile tires that are coming out are much different now
I know its an oil change video but you should have at least mentioned tire rotation as part of the service. We won't mention the 10 bolts and full skid-plate that must be removed from my Ford Maverick truck every-time I do an oil change and need to get to the drain plug and filter. No access panels provided by Ford.
Actually its an oil review video i added the changing content to help others with a basic approach . Rotating tires is a whole other beast as it requires jacks jack stands ect. Ahhh yes ford just one of many suppliers trying to make you bring vehicle to dealership for service. Glad you beat there game but thats ruff to have that many bolts to get skid plate off
I would go the extra mile and recommended a transmission fluid drain/fill every 25 or 30k miles for newer cars. If your car has over 100k miles and never had it serviced, I'd leave it alone
I knew a man in the oil business and he told me "oil is oil" Doesn't matter what brand it is, as long as the rating of the oil is designed for your machine.
And the old conventional oil days I would have agreed with you but nowadays if you find anyone with a car over 250 to 300,000 mi almost all of them are using synthetic oil. I know on my fit when I bought it from the dealership they had put conventional oil on it and by 2,000 mi it was tapping. Moment I put this synthetic high mileage oil in it it stopped. More than likely though it goes back to just personal preference and what you feel works best for your vehicle. Probably isn't anyone right answer Thanks for commenting it's appreciated
@@williammeszaros3382 Some years ago, my 96 Tahoe had 185+k miles. The engine had a light knock in the morning for a seconds. I put some synthetic oil in there to help it last longer. The knocking stopped. I thought it was in my head so I went back to conventional 5k miles later. The light knocking in the morning came back. I went back to synthetic oil. I think the engine went 305k miles before water was in the oil.
@@blackericdenice so you blame an engine knock (could be piston or con rod or lifter...on walmart oil ? What are your driving habits? I blame Chevy more than the oil you put in it, but if you feel better blaming oil, go right ahead....
GOT OVER 400,000 MILES ON MY 96 COROLLA ORIGINAL ENGINE WITH THIS OIL.BEFORE I WRECKED IT WITH OIL CHANGES AT 7K THIS OIL WORKED FLAWLESSLY.I STILL USE THIS IN MY CARS TODAY NEVER HAD AN ISSUE...
Just did an oil change at home for $40..... 7 quarts of 5W-20 High Mileage Full Synthetic with a FRAM Ultra Synthetic filter for my RAM 1500. I once took my truck to Take 5 Oil, and they charged me $110 and this was multiple years ago before covid. Why pay $100 dollars for them to top your fluid/change oil when you can do all this at home, and it's simple & easy. I only ever really used Supertech because paying nearly $30 for a 5 quart jug that's just motor oil is ridiculous. At that point you're paying for the name Pennzoil, Castrol, or Mobile 1 + advertisement where as Supertech has 0 advertisement, and your only paying for the oil. However, Supertech also use to be cheaper so it's slightly gone up. I paid $18 for a 5 quart jug, but still cheaper than all the other bullshit.
I agree a lot of places try to rip you off not changing filters overfilling etc. Really appreciate you commenting and watching
Man i love comments like this . We greatly appreciate you watching and commenting
Thats great . Pretty smart stocking up
Yep that is close to $100 bucks savings, right there...
I think we all go through that moment of wondering if it's going to work but clearly it does thank you for sharing and watching
Always change your own oil .
ALWAYS !
You simply can’t trust anyone to do it right.
Yep those of us that use and know this product understand how good it is. Thanks for sharing
I've been changing my own oil for 35 years , but only using super tech synthetic for 8 years . I'm very pleased with super tech products
I totally agree thank you for the real world feedback it's appreciated.
@@thefrugalhomestead7873 Your Most Welcome , I Look Forward To Seeing More Of Your Videos
@@thefrugalhomestead7873 The psi on the door jam is for max comfort. I always run more psi for better range, tire life, and handling.
Yeah I think the switch wouldn't hurt you. I really appreciate you sharing what you use with the community.
Love how you don’t bash the people who just don’t want to do it themselves. Other people usually do. But hey sometimes some people just don’t have the time or even a place to even change it themselves.
That is very true. Some dont know how so i tried to give basic understanding. That said sometimes the best option is just to go have others change it.
Thank you for taking the time to comment and share that information I remember back in the days they used to do oil changes that way.
And BTW, I enjoyed your video. Great job.
Thank you and with all that up keep I'm sure your car is last of very very long time
Wix makes Nappa filters. Also don't go by the tire pressure on the tire. The correct pressure for the vehicle is on a sticker in the door jam
Nope my door says 35psi but I have 8 ply tires which minimum pressure 55psi any less and you will run off the sidewalks essentially run them flat. Too many odd tire types now to just pay attention to door sadly.
I would probably use Napa filters if there was a Napa in town sadly they closed down 😕
Great video, spot on.
All solid options
That's crazy expensive.
For a quality product at a lower price it's hard to beat. Thanks for sharing and we appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment
My old boss had Supertech synthetic and their oil filters on his 400,000 mile tundra. Oil changes done at 3500 miles.
We use it in same protocol. Thanks for watching and sharing
Glad to see other good people in other good countries doing the same

I have always changed the oil in all our family vehicles (25yrs)
I had always bought name brand but at a sale price.(frugal) Past few years, I have switched to supertech synthetic and more recently their filters.
Now, if I owned a supercar (vette/porsche/ferrari) I would consider paying for something more expensive.
Clean/changed oil is key, and supertech meets/exceeds all necessary benchmarks.
I 100% agree. Consistency and oil changes on time keep motors running more than anything
Not a bad idea if you really do not like changing your oil.
@@thefrugalhomestead7873 I see.
Iowa
Here a full synthetic is 24 in Ohio. If you do it yourself Yes they raise the service charge to do it with their oil.

Lots of interesting info in this post thanks for commenting
Most of your local auto parts will take used oil
I have no problem running the Super Tech full synthetic. I have been buying the twelve quart boxes of 5w30 for some time now. I run it in a 2002 Ford Ranger and a 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix and also in a new Ariens snow blower. Why pay significantly more for something like Mobil 1 or Pennzoil Platinum that is only marginally better? I do run Amsoil XL in my 2019 Ford F-150 for protection of the twin turbos and direct injection.
It does not look like high mileage oil to me ?
Ok
Very useful info ,I changed my own oil with Walmart full synthetic oil

You make a good point about the Napa filters. They are made by the company who produces WIX oil filters. Also Napa oil is valvoline motor oil it’s just packaged in a Napa brand bottle. It’s very similar to your example of Mobil one oil branded as super tech and that was nice to know that Mobil 1 bought warren oil company I didn’t realize that and thank you for sharing 👍

Oh and if I wanted my local shop to change my oil with my own filter and oil it's just $20, comes in handy when it's below zero and it has to be done.
Wow solid setup and good price for when it really cold out. I just actually had to get out and do ours today and even at 22° it was chilly. Thanks for watching and commenting we appreciate it
Isn't it cheaper if you dump 5 quart jug and 1.4 quarts. Which you would just need 2?
I love the Supertech oil but I prefer using K&N, Mobile1, AC Delco, or Motorcraft filters.
All good products i have change my oil every 2.5 to 3 months so i dont have to rely on my filters for a long time period.
Shouldn't we drain the engine oil first before replacing oil filter?
As long as top oil cap off it really doesnt matter what order you do in so do what you think best

Is it true it’s better in older vehicles not modern engines? I have a 21 civic and is it true it has an odd smell?
No odd smell not sure where that came from. We run it in both of our Hondas as well as my old truck I know people using it in brand new cars. I think you'd be quite surprised how good it is

But i do all my own now as i seen too many pull out without oil plug or missing or loose lig nuts
The final straw for me was I took a truck in and told them directly to their face as well as the mechanic do not use an impact on these rims so without listening to me they put an impact on the lug nuts and sheared them. Then they called me and said you need to come pick up your truck we can't change the tires on it I get there and all the lug nuts are stripped they didn't just do one tire they stripped all of they refuse to have it towed or do anything else to help me so I took it home and had to hammer sockets onto it breaking tons of sockets and ratchets which they were willing to replace out of Walmart products only but still never have Walmart touch my vehicles again
go by the tire pressure on the door sticker, not on the tire
That's only if you put the standardized tire on your car on my truck for example inside the door it'll tell you 35 to 45 PSI depending on if it's the 15 or 16 in. But in fact I have eight ply tires on my truck which call for a minimum of 55 lb of pressure . If you put 35 or 45 lb and then they look flat and will not run correctly. So going off the side of the tire is the best solution

Beware of cheap oil filters always buy a good oil filter

Do not adjust air pressure to the pressure stated on the tires, the correct air pressure will be on a sticker on driver side door jam
I use supertech full synthetic, too

So now you do not always go off the door if you have heavier rated tires installed not to mention the 70,000 mile tires that are coming out are much different now
Now the full synthetic SuperTech oil is around $20.00. It used to be $15.00.

I knew a man in the oil business and he told me "oil is oil"
Doesn't matter what brand it is, as long as the rating of the oil is designed for your machine.
And the old conventional oil days I would have agreed with you but nowadays if you find anyone with a car over 250 to 300,000 mi almost all of them are using synthetic oil.
I know on my fit when I bought it from the dealership they had put conventional oil on it and by 2,000 mi it was tapping.
