I just want to encourage you as I've subscribed to movie analysis channels before with excellent quality videos yet very very low view/subscriber numbers... they slowly slowly grew over a few years before taking off and then suddenly quickly surpass the 100000 subscribers mark. I am really looking forward to watching your channel grow as the quality of what you do certainly deserves it and I feel certain it's just a question of time!!

@@UKProgRock I just watched 1 & 2 back to back. One was still pretty good. And always will be. However, 2 was a real letdown. For instance, in G1, the team had to prove that they were right. And the film ends with enormous cheering crowds, with people chasing “Ecto 1” as the GB soundtrack is pumping out awesome high tension! Now In G2, all of a sudden, they are disgraced. Awful reintroduction. S.W. And D.A. Seem aged. Ernie Hudson looked completely different. However, I always liked the new Annie Potts look. She’s the best part of the film! Also, the movie seemed very hollow & boring And of course, lastly, the music score, or lack there of. Elmer Bernstein is probably one of the best film composers out there. His score in “Trading Places”, was literally Mozart! Another Point would be to look at Star Wars or Back To The Future, and of course the 007 series, with of course, the exception of “Never say Never Again!” Lesson is, If you leave the music alone, you may make it out a little easier!!!

if you think about it, the ghostbusters and gremlins franchise had a lot in common:
-Both comedies premiring the same day
-Both were successful both critically and financially, launching into a bigger picture the carrer of their directors
-Both spawned a sequel on the 90s, that criticized many aspects of the OG film
    - those sequels werent much of a hit but became cult classics over the years
-It spawned a lot of merchandise
-Both are coming on 2021 (ghostbusters with afterlife and gremlinds with the HBO Max cartoon)

People who like Ghostbusters II are usually looked down upon and are called “nostalgia blind”. That’s bullshit. Ghostbusters II is a legitimate good movie. So what if it isn’t as dark as the first? So what if also tries to appeal to kids? Ghostbusters is loved by everyone.
Some cynics just can’t accept that. When Channel “Awesome” tried to rewrite Ghostbusters II they justified it by saying that GB2 somehow ruined the series? I mean, those are the same people who said the Remake wasn’t that bad, so I don’t trust them. I mean, I never liked them at all but I digress.
The same thing happened with the Star Wars prequels and Jurassic Park III. Those films are nowhere near as bad as people say, especially in comparison to the sequels that came afterward.

Too late, I WILL and ALWAYS WILL be fan of "Ghostbusters II". Love both movies equally. Same with Elmer Bernstein and Randy Edelman's scores. So glad that after 32 years, we finally get a release of Edelman's score for the sequel. Yeah it's out of film order, but hey as Cheech says, "Better late than never."

It's an entertaining movie. Of course this is not at the same level of the original movie (the sarcastic jokes were eliminated, the plot is not the most original stuff, and more issues) but in its defense, there's this Ghostbusters feeling (not even the new movie got this), the villain (and that painting was so well done).

Very good video. I appreciate how you made the films connections to the Reagan years in New York and how the battle for Oscar soul represents our collective love and humanity for one another. I’ve always loved this movie since I was a kid. Revisiting it as an adult, every line is quotable and hilarious to me. And don’t hate me, when it comes to watching the movies over and over this is the one I always go to. Plus I love the Statue of Liberty ending. It brings a tear to my eye thinking about its symbolism as the soul of our nation. Looking forward to watching your other videos. PS - I just saw the deleted scene of Louis trying to trap slimer in the fire house and Janine saying, “oh don’t worry. he’s all right.“ LOL. Should’ve kept that scene in the movie.

Absolutely loved and still love the court room bust, it’s funny how Ghostbusters 2 shows the catching more ghosts than the first - 3 compared to only the 1 in the original.

Refreshing to know that there are GB2 fans out there, and I'm definitely one of them. I think I've watched this one even more than the original! It has plenty of comedy, lots of heart, and genuine scares. Anyone else think Vigo is a more threatening menace than Gozer? If I were to rate the three movies (I don't recognize the 2016 film as part of the GB universe), GB1 gets 9.5 out of 10, GB2 9.3 out of 10, GB Afterlife 8.8.

Great video and it's good that people are starting to understand that this movie isn't as bad as they make it out to be.
(I believe it's the fault of early "witty/funny" review videos on TH-cam, people jump on a band wagon thinking they're funny by vilifying something)
But like other videos on Ghostbusters 2, you miss out a lot of stuff that people never think of or remember, maybe this video isn't the place and maybe you've already done a video on it, I'll have to have a look.
But for example, one of the main points that i see people bring up is "it doesn't make sense for the Ghostbusters to be out of business since the last movie they literally saved the world, so them to be out of business and for the citizens not to remember that is just bad writing" but the movie does address this almost right away which actually ties into the plot, which is the mood slime.
And since Dan Aykoryd (i think) had some of his own ideas put into the script and given his history with "conspiracy theories" etc. the idea of Mood Slime is actually not far from the truth.
Especially when Egon says that a theory Ray and him had was whether human emotions affect physical environment, that's Law of Attraction, cursed objects, proper spiritual/paranormal stuff that Ghostbusters was made for.
How negative energy/emotion impacts us, and how we can turn it around with positive energy/emotion.
I know it sounds like real hippie type stuff but i find it really interesting especially how they used the Statue of Liberty as a way of defeating the negative energy, bringing everyone together over what we all love, freedom.
But the movie also does a really great job at bringing New York alive with it's characters and their subtle conversations whether it's the rude kid at the party, the receptionist at the art mused, or the usher at the mayor's office.
I could honestly write a Bible long paragraph on this movie.
Ironically, people have to be in the right mood to appreciate this movie.

I’ve gone back and forth on it over the years. Last time I watched it I liked it a lot but I think its main problems are in the little details. It all happens over Christmas and not only are they able to re-open the firehouse, they re-establish their business within a couple days?
Normally I don’t care for stuff like that but it’s one of the things you can compare unfavourably to the first. That one has crisp pacing that only sets up the concept but escalates the threat simultaneously in a way that feels organic, while 2 is more obviously contrived.
Also, and this is a problem I have with Afterlife, the first movie should have irrevocably changed the world. I never bought the collective amnesia people have over the existence of ghosts.
But like I say, I do like this film. And it was the last time we got to see the whole cast together in live action. That has to mean something

“Suck in the guts guys, we're the Ghostbusters.”
When a 16th-century tyrant and a river of angry pink ooze threaten New York City, who ya gonna call? (It’s a rhetorical question.) Ghostbusters II brought back Drs. Venkman, Stantz, Spengler and the rest, but life hadn’t been kind in the five years-both in real time and movie time-since the original Ghostbusters film.
At the start of Ghostbusters II, the Ghostbusters have been banned from all spirit chasing by a court order. Ray and Winston are working kids’ birthday parties, Egon is conducting experiments on the human psyche and the environment, and Peter is hosting “The World of the Psychic” on local cable. Cool beauty Dana broke up with Peter, married another man, had a baby named Oscar, got divorced and is now working as a museum art restorer.
That’s where things first start to get nasty, as Dana begins restoring a portrait of the malevolent Vigo the Carpathian. Vigo wants to return to this world to reign in terror, but he needs a host form to make the jump. He finds one in little baby Oscar, and with the help of Dana’s boss Janosz Poha, the Carpathian begins making his move.
Peter and the boys reunite to help Dana out, but they’re soon placed under arrest for violating their court order, and hapless Louis Tully is their only legal representation. Together again, the Ghostbusters realize that New York is on course for another supernatural meltdown, courtesy of a river of oozing pink ectoplasm beneath the city streets. The slimy goo is fueled by the collective rage of New York’s notoriously hard-nosed citizens, and unless Peter and the gang can harness a little love power, Vigo and his minions will usher in a global apocalypse.
All the elements that made the original Ghostbusters such a success were back-Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Harold Ramis, Rick Moranis, Ernie Hudon, Annie Potts and other supporting players acting in another Aykroyd/Ramis script directed by Ivan Reitman. The soundtrack was another R&B-influenced hit, with Bobby Brown’s single “On Our Own” hitting #2 on the U.S. charts. The Run-DMC version of "Ghostbusters" failed to develop the same level of enduring fandom as Parker, Jr.'s original. In 2014, the Run-DMC version was released on a special-edition, white vinyl record that was presented in a marshmallow-scented jacket. The record also contains the Parker, Jr. version of the song and was released to celebrate the 30th and 25th anniversaries of Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II respectively. The same year, the soundtrack was first released in digital format. Edelman's score remained unreleased until 2021. Available on vinyl, compact disc, and digital formats, the release included 16 tracks from the film, some of which were re-recorded for the album, and an unused song made for the film.
The mix worked again, as Ghostbusters II scored another blockbuster hit in a crowded summer that included Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Batman, Back to the Future Part II, The Karate Kid Part III, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, Lethal Weapon 2 and fellow Rick Moranis film Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. Plans for a third film have yet to materialize, but the GB team kept going strong on Saturday morning’s The Real Ghostbusters (now renamed Slimer! And The Real Ghostbusters) and Extreme Ghostbusters on through the 1990’s. The film spawned a series of merchandise including video games, board games, comic books, music, toys, and haunted houses. Despite the relative failure of Ghostbusters II, a second sequel was pursued through to the early 2010s. A financially unsuccessful 2016 series reboot led to renewed efforts on a sequel to Ghostbusters II, titled Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which was released in 2021.
Several video games were released around the release of the film; Ghostbusters II in 1989 for personal computers, Ghostbusters II (published by Activision) in 1990 for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), and New Ghostbusters II (as Ghostbusters II), also in 1990 for the Nintendo Game Boy. New Ghostbusters II was also released for the NES in Europe and Japan but could not be released in America because Activision held the rights to the game there.
Since its release, Ghostbusters II merchandise has included Playmobil sets with action figures and a model of the Ectomobile 1A. A board game, Ghostbusters: The Board Game II, was released in 2017 by Cryptozoic Entertainment. Based on the film, it casts the players as the Ghostbusters and tasks them with defeating Vigo and his ghostly minions. The game's creation was crowdfunded, raising over $760,000. The 2019 Halloween Horror Nights event at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Studios Florida held a 'Ghostbusters-themed haunted maze that featured locations, characters, and ghosts from Ghostbusters, and the Scoleri Brothers.
Discussion about a sequel took place during filming of Ghostbusters II, but Ramis was dismissive because of both the actors' ages and the difficulty in getting all of the cast together. Despite Ghostbusters II's relative failure, the name recognition and popularity of the actors and their characters meant a third film was still pursued. The concept failed to progress for many years because Murray was reluctant to participate. The Real Ghostbusters series continued to air until 1992 and ended after seven seasons; according to Medjuck, the cartoon series technically took place after the events of Ghostbusters II. The Real Ghostbusters was followed in 1997 by a sequel series called Extreme Ghostbusters, which aimed to reinvigorate the franchise but lasted for only one season. In the years that followed the release of Ghostbusters II, Aykroyd continued his attempts to develop a film sequel throughout the 1990s to the early 2010s. By 1999, he had completed a 122-page concept for a sequel called Ghostbusters III: Hellbent, which would add several new characters and take them to ManHellton-a demonic version of Manhattan-where they would encounter the demon Lucifer.

Maybe I’m 2 years late. Love the movie. I heard a critic suggest that to fix the movie one thing can be changed and I agreed.
Start the movie with the court scene. Have Walter Peck be the one suing them in court. However the slime, which we don’t know about causes the ghosts to appear and attack. Then through the rest of the movie we learn what the slime is and who the antagonist is. It fixes the issues of not seeing them in uniform for like what? 20-30 minutes of the film? Anyways I liked his idea.

Ghostbusters II is a great movie, period. I think critics were just embarrassed to say they enjoyed it in the wake of the toy and cartoon franchises that arose from it; admitting they enjoyed something so beloved by young boys was a bridge to far for their egos. Or maybe they just had horrible taste.

I LOVE Ghostbusters II. Sometimes I'm more in the mood for it than the original. I saw them both, chopped up and not in sequence (prob fell asleep) as a small child on cable, and moments in both scared the s#!t out of my four-five-ish year old brain. To this day, I think of both movies not as comedies, but as lighthearted, somewhat fam- friendly horror movies with jokes. That was the difference between the OG films and the remake...the new one, while actually funnier (I believe) than the original, plays like a comedy about ghosts, and that's not what I responded to when I was younger and learned to love these movies. In the remake, there's none of the campy darkness burbling around all the coping-mechanism humor in the OG movies. For me, movies like Ghostbusters I, II, and Gremlins were segues of interest into movies like Poltergeist, The Amityville Horror and assorted horror when I was nowhere near old enough to watch them.

This was the first Ghostbusters I ever saw. Loved it as a kid. I can't get through it these days. It's just not good in my opinion.

Oh, I can totally understand a number of the criticisms levelled against it, and definitely think the first film was lightning in a bottle that has a very specific time and place in film and pop culture... I just wanted to make my own little case for the sequel :)

Gb2 is a great movie and doesn't deserve the hate its gotten. Its a great film, adds to the gb mythos, has good set pieces and still has funny and memorable moments. Its failure ppl speak of really comes down to comparing it to such an iconic and perfect first film. Gb is lightening in a bottle and was never going to be topped, but gb2 def comes close in quality.
Also, regarding the pointless and god awful remake, not every gb fan who dislikes it is a misogynist, I'm sick of fans who have genuine reasons for their dislike getting labelled as such. it was a film that was made purely to squeeze money out of the name, and among many of its issues, it wasn't funny or clever, the casting was totally wrong for a gb movie and terrible writing, it just wasn't needed or wanted. If it was made as a tie in to the first 2 and had a different cast, id probably think more positively about it, but seeing melissa mccarthy who i don't find funny or entertaining anyway doing slapstick in a national lampoons take on gb, just put me off totally. Im a massive gb fan like many others here, but i just wanted a well written, clever and well structured story. gb2016 had none of those things.
Anyway, great video, i watch gb2 every new year :)

I agree with everything. Unfortunately a bunch of sexist, men's rights dweebs derailed the very legitimate criticisms of the Ghost Buster's remake

@@inframeout i agree there was a small portion making ridiculous comments but when a movie is marketed the way gb2016 was then i don't have much sympathy for the backlash it got, esp with comments paul feige, amy pascall and melissa mccarthy made. I'm glad jason reitman is bringing us afterlife though, i have alot of faith in his vision and will hopefully give us a gb movie we wanted for so long.

I've given Ghostbusters II a couple chances over the years, but I never really get on with it. Some bits are brilliant, but just not enough, that I wouldn't just rather watch a double billing of the original Ghostbusters followed immediately by just watching Ghostbusters again.

Fucking thank you. Yes it's not perfect but it's still no where near as bad as most say.

I'm all for the GB2 defending (I always thought it was just fine, the comedy being a bit downgraded but the scares and villain making up for it), but I wanna snap back with Speed 2 doesn't deserve that hate either. Sure, it basically commits the big sequel crime of just not being as good as the first, but it's a damn fine pick for some good 90s action cinema. Great video tho.

In opinion when you watch the original ghostbusters it’s meant to be a comedic film with spooks and so is the cartoon series lighthearted and fun
Ghostbusters 2 kind of goes against everything the original stood for with all the child endangerment, the horror and very little comedy. Not to mention those two out of nowhere scenes of decapitated heads on poles and rays possession in a filmed that was legit aimed towards families and kids
But like I said that’s my opinion

    • @inframeout

@@inframeout another thing the reason the reboot didn’t work isn’t a political reason but instead kind of mirrors the thing I said about ghostbusters 2, too much comedy barely any spooks that was probably controversial but I take an interest in film
