I will say this, I have never not been entertained by Nicolas Cage. Just seeing the man in a movie is usually enough for me to go, “yeah, this will be worth it”.
He can be subtle, but sometimes, when he "rages" out, I find him equally relatable. Sometimes when you're on the edge, depressed, angry, broken, you're not quiet, you're a hot mess. Nic is great at that.
Absolutely towering performance of subtle peaks and extravagant explosions. As I say, the bathroom sequence may be one of the best moments of his storied career. The fact people giggle at it because he's in his underpants makes me deeply sad
In/Frame/Out well, laughing at him cause he's in his underpants is childish..You cannot ignore all that outpouring of grief... I agree, this is probably his best performance to date.

Mandy might be one my most favorite films ever. They spend first half hour just lying around, talking about planets. But you get this looming feeling that there is something behind them. They are not just random happy couple, they are like two retired gods, eldritch horrors of yesteryear, sealed in this mundane life by their mutual love. But then the seal is broken and the beast is free.
He is confusingly talented, sometimes relatable sometimes not, but an actors job is to keep the audience questioning what's gonna happen next which he is a master at plus he is very realistic as an actor at times. He is weird and we love it.

I really love Cage in Color Out Of Space. He starts out the movie acting in a pretty naturalistic manner, but as his character gets more unhinged, Cage's acting gets more extreme. It manages to combine audience expectations of naturalistic acting with Cage's style by _playing it for horror_ which is kinda brilliant.

Here after watching Willy’s Wonderland, the man doesn’t say a single word the entire movie but I couldn’t take my eyes off of him. I love his acting style so much.
I was pretty bored through most of "Willy's Wonderland" - but absolutely none of that was during the extended sequences of Nic Cage just playing pinball

Doing the research for this video - specifically realising that with thousands of years of theatrical performance, naturalism is only a hundred years old or so, yet it's now seen by many as the only "Authentic" or "Good" form of acting. I've been a film buff for years and I can safely say Nick is the GOAT. Not based on box office/awards, but his commitment to the craft. He is a true eccentric but that makes him great
One thing about "Naturalism" in acting..everyone of us does it almost every day to varying degrees..Brando pointed this out in interviews years ago when people said he was amazing..being entertaining and interesting is difficult..I don't think it's a coincidence many many stand up comedians do very well when they get into acting..I can't think of one serious actor that became a great stand up comic

Nicolas Cage is one of the most dedicated actors you can find, give him a good story, script and character and he will kill it every time. It's not his fault hollywood is full of dumbasses that like to pretend he doesn't exist. Not sure why, maybe because i grew up watching his movies but i feel a sense of endearment towards him and check up on what he is working on from time to time. I am sorry but a lot of the now famous actors have nothing on him, he outclasses them by a lot. Say what you will about him but no matter how bad the movie is he always gives a 100% of himself , that's what makes him so awesome.

Two words- Valley Girl. Very young, VERY cute, still billed as a Coppola , Cage's Randy is so wonderful, so wild and funny and so damn easy to fall in love with. A role, a movie that shines so far beyond its shallow title. He was never better.
If I'm a Movie Director, I will make a movie about a very tempramental man who always had a bad day in his life, people messing around to him, but he can fight it all and survived his life, and Nick Cage is my choice to play that character.
Cage said he chose bad roles to make money (he is the actor with most movies per year) by the age of 80 (let’s pray he gets that old) he will start in over 250 films surpassing Christopher Lee, he is just 59 with 110 films in his filmography. Cage turned down soo many roles. Cage movies are bad but he is a great actor.

Fantastic. I think the first time I realized that movies could be something special and had the power to make you feel things in wonderful ways was catching Raising Arizona as a kid on HBO. I've loved him ever since. He's made some amazing movies, and some of my favorite dumb movies (even the boring earth on fire one has a place in my heart). But I have complicated feelings about the noveau shamanism stuff. It makes total sense to me but it bothers me that he started talking about it during the time in his career when he was doing the Ghost Rider movies amidst a bunch of other unwatchable stuff. It was like he really needed to dig deep to come from an authentic place when financial distress was a big reason he took on these roles.

People have a concept that Nicolas takes these bad films because he is desperate to pay his bills, but what if the truth is, that he takes these bad films, because he knows how bad they are from the beginning, he can break free with no problem.
If you saw how i behaved throughout the day and tried to imitate it, well a "naturalistic" actor wouldn't stand a chance, you would need to call in the big guns, Nicolas Cage all the way baby!!
The Cage is great because he understands that a great ACTOR isn't simply CONvincingly REAL (what ever THE fuck that may MEEEEAN !!) But....above AAAAALLL !! enter...FUCKENTAINING!
It's a remake in the most loose sense of the word - Herzog hadn't seen the original as far as I'm aware and simply made a Gonzo police drama about a corrupt police officer. The two have virtually nothing in common - although both are good films in their own regard :)

If you saw how i behaved throughout the day and tried to imitate it, well a "naturalistic" actor wouldn't stand a chance, you would need to call in the big guns, Nicolas Cage all the way baby!!

It's a remake in the most loose sense of the word - Herzog hadn't seen the original as far as I'm aware and simply made a Gonzo police drama about a corrupt police officer. The two have virtually nothing in common - although both are good films in their own regard :)
Actully I really like Cage. He is really trying to live life of the character. Maybe it is not always understadable for viewer. But he IS great
