    When I was 18, I bought a brand new 1989 Black CRX Si. Went off to college in that car. So many memories in that car. I've had many since then but this one stays in my mind as my very favorite. Now almost 50 years old, I want my black CRX back...

    I bought a brand new 1988 CRX Si when I was 19 years old. It was silver, such a great car, I wish I still had it. Thanks for the trip down memory lane

      OMG, I too bought a brand new silver 1988 CRX Si when I was 19. Sold it in 1996 for only $3k. I wish I had kept it, but I needed money for grad school. Now I drive a silver Fit, which is fun, but not the same. Here's a pic I took of it at a park: plover.net/~agarvin/honda2.jpg

    A fantastic video and a refreshingly mature approach to the CRX. These cars deserve more respect.

    • @crxdelsolsir
      @crxdelsolsir 8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      These cars downright deserve more respect.
      As in not thrashing and modifying the hell out of it, used to stroke the owners ego of proving they are faster and having an insatiable desire to be the BADDEST.
      All the while the car has gone beyond the point of no longer durable, economical, reliable and maintainable. All the qualities that make Honda a Honda and what the manufacturer has endowed on this vehicle.
      Also Respect by not treating these cars as disposable.

    • @mzondi1970
      @mzondi1970 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sadly they do not get the respect they deserve for 2 reasons. What so many have done to make them look like clown cars and 2 I don't think any Japanese's cars from this era are considered as he stated a modern mini cooper. I am a Honda lover to the core and just picked up a rust free SI. She will take some time to get back in order but I hope it ends up as nice as this one.

  • @moccina

    The Japanese either didn't know what the fuck they created with the Si, or they were decades ahead of their time. God bless them.

      HondaPro Jason did you catch were he said it was a 12v motor though. That is incorrect cause if that car is an si it would have the d16a6 motor which is a 16v motor

    Love the video. I've had my 1989 CRX 1.6i 16v for 32 years now. I love my CRX she is pretty much standard has done 135,000 miles and is still on her original clutch and gearbox. I had her bare metal restored five years ago as I am in England and live by the sea. The car still turns heads and is a joy to drive.

    I purchased my '90 black Si used in 1991. It had less than 10k miles on it then. Now it has 170k. It's still my daily driver.
    It's close to stock. Interior is completely stock but the driver's seat is getting really worn out. I've added old 1st generation Neuspeed Sport lower springs and Koni Sport shocks, a DC Sports header and had a custom exhaust system made when the stock one rusted out. That's it. I still have the stock suspension springs, but the current setup is still very comfortable and offers more responsive handling. Stock Flint Black Metallic paint.
    I had a compression test performed a couple years ago and all 4 cylinders still had new-like compression. The oil level stays the same between oil changes.
    27-years-old and still going strong.

    Personally, I believe this car exemplifies "good design" because it looks unforgettable in black paint despite its small size. Those Ronal Turbo wheels add Cylon sparkle to Darth Vader's stance.

  • @kaneinkansas
    @kaneinkansas 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The car is beautiful. I owned a 88 CRX-HF; absolutely loved it. I drove it through the bending, rollercoaster backroads of the Ozarks and its double wishbone suspension and short wheel base sucked up and held the car to the road. I've never driven anything like it. I had it for 8 years. I bought a Miata shortly after that. It was a wildly intoxicating car too, but after a year or so, I was tired of all the feed back the car sent up to the driver. So, the CRX was the best car because the way it handled and the precision of the manual gears. It had enough isolation, but its road holding ability was just awesome. Congratulations on having one in stock condition. The amazing thing is, it doesn't look all that dated even after 30 years.

    Enjoyed the video, but not as much as I love my 89 DX. Autocrossed for about 10 years. Dropped some weight out of her, (1985 lbs with 1/2 tank of gas) braided brake lines, DC rear strut bar, Tokico shocks, Skunk 2 springs, and a 91 D16a6. Have had her going on 29 years. Daily fun!!!

    I have a 2015 orange Civic Si coupe with only 28K miles. But I really want a low mileage 88 on up CRX. On a bring a trailer auction from December 2019, a white 33K mileage CRX sold for $30K. Had I known, I would have sold my Si and made a plan to get that one.

    I love how clean this CRX is. I have a white '91 HF that isnt nearly as clean. Sadly, many local car enthusiasts tell me how clean mine is compared to so many others they have seen.
    Mine is mostly stock. Had to replace the motor with a D15B7 since I was able to get it at a good deal. Stock motor was really worn out, and my CRX was my daily at
    the time.
    Also replaced the cam sprocket on the B7, as the stock one managed to get bent before going in the car.
    Stereo definitely is not stock, and I'm using rims and the hood from an '88 Si.
    Everything else is pretty much stock though. Inside needs some love as the carpet is torn on the drivers side, and the seats are torn as well.
    Still, I love my little CRX. She has gotten me through some rough patches, and is the only reason why I took an interest in cars at all.

It was interesting to hear you refer to it as a pocket rocket because that's how one review of it I'd read back in '88 described it to. And it was indeed! Just a very well made and fun car and watching this brought back the nostalgic feeling you mentioned. Thank you!

    I honestly do not know why there are so many people that did not need to get rid of their CRX, did so for a newer/bigger/faster car because they thought it was a great idea and today regret doing so.

    Nice. Just remeber to lock and keep it in the garage. Get a alarm on it also, people will kill for a car like this now. Just so they can sell parts for high price.

      I’ve had my 91 HF for about 3 years and it’s been amazing to me. Extremely reliable and the mileage is also great. If you have a GF she will love it too it’s pretty comfy and simple for its age. I highly recommend investing in anti theft though I had mine stolen and they took my sick braum bucket seat :\, I was lucky to get it back though. I have a removable steering wheel now but that’s not enough I say get an alarm, one with tracking if you can afford it because if a towing company gets their hands on it it’s going to cost at least $300 to get it back. A kill-switch is also a good idea and maybe even a switch from the outside that can choke the gas lines. If you plan on modding it look into airbag suspension because if you lower it to shit when you park it burglars can’t get a tow truck to get under it. Garaging it will probably lower your risks too. Other than that they still go for pretty low but looking for one that isn’t a project might take awhile :p

    I Hate Hondas, but the CRX just has this style that attracts me to it.. maybe because its just screams "80s" when you look at it.

    Funny how keeping it clean (stock and very very original) turns heads and inquisitive looks (double takes) now days.
    With onlooking eyes that seem to say ... this is not real as I always saw these modified and thrashed and that was years ago!
    When these were stock ... people modified them to be DIFFERENT and FEEL cool
    Now people return them to stock and original look to be DIFFERENT and FEEL cool.
    The car has not changed only the people.
    Shows how kids (immature not necessarily young) who have now grown up have learned how to appreciate these cars for what they are (their shape, feel, sound and other intrinsic values). The sad part is only after driving several of these and other fine cars to the ground and verge of extinction.
    20 years ago if they had TH-cam people would thumb you down for showing a near stock car.
