My second car ever was a silver ‘88 CRX Si. I absolutely loved it and it made me an instant Honda fan! The steering in that car was phenomenal and it was quick enough to have fun on backroads. And amazingly at 6’3” I fit in it perfectly, but boy did I look funny getting in and out of it lol.
@n-power-automotive For real haha. Once you are in the car, I thought I was ok. The low roof line made filming a bit tricky, but without the extra stuff on my head, it was fine at 6'2. It was a load of fun!
I really like to see someone having the age I had when I drove my CRX Si back at that time and appreciating all the thrill vs modern cars that little engine delivered
Amazing car! I currently own a 98 Civic hatch and like you said, just revving out the engine makes these older Honda's so much fun and feel so fast even though it has around 90hp. 😂
I had a 1990 Si, it was fun and I loved it but now I have a JDM SiR. That 160hp with vtec is really fun to drive hitting 9k rpm. Feels like a totally different car.
Glad you was able compare to the EF I was trying decide which one get and this video sealed the deal. I need grab CRX soon before they get too expensive
Identical engine as a Civic SI only reason it feels like it has more torque is because it weighs less. "Steering is heavy" is an interesting thing to say lol I couldn't disagree more my 1990 CRX is the same car as what your driving apart from a swapped engine and bigger brakes. The body roll comment makes sense because unfortunately 88-89 CRX's did not receive rear sway bars. I think it's funny how little complaints you had about the CRX compared to the Civic when the only BIG differences are a two hundred pounds and a couple inches off the wheel base. Also it was disappointing to watch you shift into 2nd gear so slowly and so soon, the car can hit 60mph in second
I came here to say basically the same thing 😅 I own a 91 civic SI exact to the one he drove and also an 89 Crx SI and you are exactly right. d16a6 is the engine in both, funnily enough the 88 CRX SI he drove actually has like 2 or 3 less HP than the 91 Civic SI due to a revised camshaft. 105 hp in the 88 Crx and 108 hp in the 91 civic
It's funny you say that. I didn't really have any actual complaints with the Civic, haha. But you are not the only person to say that. This car had a limiter at 6500 rpm. It could not hit 60mph in 2nd gear. Steering is heavy at slow speeds compared to a car with power steering. Probably not a fair comparison, I don't drive many cars without power steering so it's something I'm not much used to. I appreciate the comment and overall feedback! I guess I need to try a later one now.
@@justind1180I saw that too after the fact, the shorter gearing was all it is. The gearing completely transformed the feel of the engine IMO. I felt like the longer gearing the 91 Civic Si had dropped the car out of the power band between shifts. Thus making it feel slower in comparison.
