    Back in highschool you used to see a lot of these CRX's on the parking lot among most of the students "most of them used to go into mechanic class at the time" and let me tell you, these Hondas were amazing along with the EG's and EX ect. When it comes to 90's cars, this one, the Eclipse and the Civic "both versions" and the MR2 are some of my favorite cars from the era.

    • @bwofficial1776
      @bwofficial1776 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Old Hondas used to be dirt cheap. They were all bought up, "modified", and either wrecked or driven into the ground. Survivors like this are rare.

    92 horse power lol crazy to think that back in the day we used to think that was fast. I had a CRX when I was 17. Great car. Right now I’m in a 2022 civic sport touring hatchback in boost blue. Best car.

    I work at a Honda dealer. I have a customer who is the original owner of a 91 CRX Si. It’s his only car and he still loves it. It’s no garage Queen, but still quite presentable.

      That’s amazing that someone originally owns one. I wish I could get a brand new crx. It would be my favorite car ever. That and a Nissan 370Z.

    I loved these back in the day. They're practically unicorns now (especially if you find one that hasn't been riced out). This is definitely an '80s icon; you could still spec the first couple of years with carburetors, I believe. Can't imagine what finding one of those would be like today.

  • @frankiemck40

    I’m especially glad you did this one. I had two CRX’s- a 1984 and then a 1988. Both DX’s. People usually don’t know there were three models of each body style. FE, DX and Si. I truly enjoyed driving those little cars. I sometimes wish I still had one. Ah the good old days. 😊 Ironically the home market ones had back seats. Also A/C was optional, which was a must-have for me in Georgia!

    What a classic. I REALLY love the wheels the owner found for this car. EXTREMELY rare to see eight spoke wheels like this because they looks similar to Wanatabes. Very good choice.
    The only shame about these wonder vehicles is that so many kids just beat the hell out of them and finding a nice one that isn't out of this world in price is extremely difficult.

    I owned a 90 Civic SI and loved it. It was a great little car. Reliable, light and fun to drive. That generation CRX reminded me of the F-117 Stealth Fighter plan from Desert Storm!

    Nice review, you got nearly everything right (more than most reviews) and I LOVE seeing how much you appreciate this car. I bought an '84 CRX and then sold Hondas and Acuras from '85 to 2015. A/C and radios were dealer installed options on all CRX trim levels all 8 years of their model run. The enclosed cargo area was standard on 2nd gen DX and Si trims, and Japanese and Euro CRX did have a back seat - nicknamed a two-mile seat. That's why the U.S. version LOOKS like it could have one. My guess is "two mile seat" GREATLY overestimated it's capabilities! Absolutely correct on the emergency seatbelt release (nobody gets that right!) and your impression of the shifter? Car and Driver (and others) said for decades that Honda made the world's best feeling shifter - including high dollar performance and exotics. Really nice review, thank you so much!

    I had one of those, had it i same colour but my was euro spec with B16 Vtec engine. 160 hp in that light car was a blast. Had to let it go with sadness due to massive rust in the rocker panels.

    @ErikSeastead ปีที่แล้ว +1

    While being sub 2000 lbs is very impressive, especially for the 80s, the triumph spitfire 3 had a curb weight of 1567 lbs!! That includes the 400 lbs iron block engine and transmission. A modern aluminum drivetrain swap could get you well under 1500 lbs! Modern cars in the 2200 lbs range would be the NA Miata and Mk3 MR2. Basically nothing will ever be that light again.

    I owned a 91 civic dx with the same D15b2 engine. Made 92 hp and a few hundred pounds more lol not much point in modding these imo they're fun as is in stock form. Mine lasted to 287k before I regrettably sold it. Had a b18c1 GSR too until a deer decided to run into me at 80mph 227k miles on her... miss her dearly. Mostly the transmissions and the high revving n/a engine. Dont miss the burning oil and black sooted bumper lol forerever a Honda fanboy ❤

    Despite the lack of back seats, I spent many an hour sitting on that ledge sideways with my older brother because my dad refused to drive my mom's big ass 84 Impala, so when the 4 of us had to go anywhere, we just had to sardine it. I'm pretty sure I racked up at least one cumulative concussion from smacking my head against the roof due to speed bumps.
    And yeah, it would have been an absolute death trap in an accident, but hey, all's well that ends well.

    This is such a great video. I absolutely love the color of this one albiet a bit sun faded. Never knew that about the sun roofs but the sun roof is my favorite part of my 1990 crx si. Wish it still opened up. Have to fix it among 900 other things to keep it driving is tough. I’ve seen two other crx’s around me over the last few years. I love this car so much. It’s a dream to drive. I swapped a new used d16a6 into it last winter to keep it going. Painted it the year before. Loved the footage of driving it from the cockpit. Great video!

    Kind of a weird example here. As far as I know, AC was standard equipment on the DX in 90 and 91. The sunroof is also an odd addition, as it was apparently installed so soon after it was purchased, I wonder why the original owner didn't just go for the Si with the sunroof already.

    The 1.5 is likely why it is still around. The SI was were loved to death.
    Still have Si bought new in 1988.
    I really need to put it back on the road.
    I managed to bury the speedo at 200 km/hr a number of times. Pretty good for 105 hp.
    I think the tachometer calculated to 204 km/hr.
    Canadian version was for sure lighter as the stupid seat belts added weight.
    Car dared you every time to brake deeper into the corner.
    I don't need no cup holder.
    A cup will fit pretty well between the E brake and the seat.

    I´ve been on the backseats of a 1st gen CRX too, weirdly the 1st gen has a lot more room in the back.
    1st gen CRXs were about 800kgs, 2nd gen about 900kg, really light.
    Also had an option for heated seats only here in Scandinavia, I had extra seats I didn´t need and sold them to Texas, there might be only one CRX with heated seats in the US :D

(I don't think they're ugly, I was just using it as a figure of speech cause these aren't the most popular Hondas. Just needed to make that clear.) My other favorite *Honda is the Acura Integra.
