I'm currently enrolling in the CG Auxiliary and plan to enroll in Mass Maritime Academy in a year or so to become a Coast Guard Officer. The reason I'm picking CG over other branches is because I want to mostly work in disaster relief, search and rescue, environmental protection, etc. and CG seems much more regularly involved in that than the other branches. Wish me luck!
Whichi, I'm currently in my last semester at A&M Galveston (Texas A&M Maritime Academy), and will be competing for slots in two DCO programs (MARGRAD and DCSS). If you have any questions about the programs, what to expects, etc. hit me up and I may be able to answer them.
I have a really bad family life and I'm sort of stuck, I have no real direction either so that's kinda a downer. I was thinking the coast guard would be good cause like you said a sense of community, and also I heard they pay for college and I have no real income yet, so that would be a huge blessing. I also went to some college classes for IT so that might help!
I am 22 working at amazon and just now seeing the Coast Guard! I waas a FISH as a kid always loving and comfortable in the water. It seems to naturally call me. I cannot stress how comfortable in water I am I love water and swimming. I cannot wait for this journey.
Hello. Former Coast Guard Quartermaster, Oscar-Alpha 111, November 1976- January 1977 (Alameda, California). Basic was 9 weeks back then. I enlisted in the USCG after flunking out of College NROTC at the University of Texas at Austin. Admiral Bill McRaven was a couple of years ahead of me there and obviously didn't flunk out. As my father had been a WWII Coast Guard Combat Vet of the Atlantic, Med and the Pacific, I joined the CG. At age 19, I was among the "older guys" and had military experience. I'd also performed with a military rifle drill team and had played the sousaphone in high school band. Base staff was looking for recruits for the ceremonial company band or drill team. I chose band, but also helped train the drill team, considering my experience. The main thing I brought to the company was my experience with Marine Drill Instructors. Day after day in bootcamp we had guys coming back to the barrack ready to quit because of what some permanent duty shithead had accosted them with. I should say at this point that Ceremonial Company was administered by two, recently graduated Seamen Apprentices, also from Oscar and awaiting assignment: Joe Young and Gary Crumley (who was killed when the USCGC Blackthorn was sunk). We only saw our Company Commander, QM1 Marshall, 3 times in 9 weeks, so we learned from other recruits in the company that were in other, more advanced classes. As it turned out, that was probably better than your average company, also, since we didn't have a DI grilling us, we were free to access the leadership of our own classmates and their talents. The two SA admins were all for it as well. With my previous military experience, I schooled my fellow Oscar Company recruits on the finer points of surviving and thriving while being grilled by Drill Instructors. My Marine DI's were a hell of a lot more abusive than anything I'd seen in the CG, not to mention the dozens of white glove inspections I'd already survived. As with any shipmate, you help out each other and I did that. By the time of graduation, I was top man and the top man in our "mother company" came to me to ask a favor. He was a college graduate and came out 2nd to me and, since our next billet selection was by class ranking, he wanted to know if I'd let him have a particular assignment. The favor was readily granted as I already had a guaranteed "A-School". By the way, though they no longer exist, Coast Guard Quartermasters had to successfully attend and complete US Navy A-Schools for Quartermaster and Signalman. It was considered to be an insult to the Coast Guard if any of the 6 of us in each class graduated lower than any Navy man. We kept up the tradition of excellence and I again graduated at the top of both classes. Wanna know how to survive Basic Training in the Coast Guard? I can teach you a lot.
I want to go into their environmental/marine science area because I want to become a marine scientist. It'd be so cool to just hop right into that field and serve/protect the country as well!

I want to join the Coast Guard because I love boats and aircraft, the main problem is I can’t decide if I’m going to join as a sailor on a cutter or a helicopter or aircraft pilot.
Debating in joining the Coast Guard Reserve or Active duty. Just turned 23, completed some University, have a decent job. But ever since high school I was always intrested in joining the military (multiple family members and friends in multiple branches; AF, Navy, Marines, and Army. Also did NJROTC in HS and Army ROTC in University). I was pretty much forced to go to Uni but I feel like it isn't my thing. Going to talk to my dad about it later this week in regards about joining since he was in the Army and also Army National Guard (E-6, and was near a USCG Air Base; Ellington field). One thing is...I would really like to stay in my home state (TX), that's really the only issue (due to University). Z

Julian, reality check. It is really hard to get into the Coast Guard. My son tired to enlist, there is a waiting list, and you pretty much need to score atleast a 70 on the ASVAB. Can you make a post about this reality. USCG vet. 76-80, BM2.
I want to join the Coast guard because I might be losing my financial aid for college soon that's literally it I admire the Air Force but I know my limits and I think the Coast guard would definitely be pushing them as it is
Could you talk about the future of the CG as a whole? I hear mix things some saying they aren't in need of people and other saying they really need more people
Why I want to join the Coast Guard: Mainly because I love robotics and I had a previous Coast Guardsman come to one of our meets and she talked to me all about it and I fell in love instantly so Ive met up with her quite a few times and shes helped me set my decision on joining another is to make my family proud :)
I'm thinking of joining the Coast Guard mainly because I don't want to go into the army like my other family members had. I was interested in doing it since I want to try something new and none of my family members had been in the coast guard, only in the army, but I am pretty good at typing fast, I can type like an essay in about an hour and a half

I’m only 15 but I’m planning and looking forward to joining the Coast Guard. I would like to be an ET because I’m already a boat mechanic apprentice and I think being an ET would help improve my skills. Even though I’ve researched as much as possible, is there any tips or details you have for this position.
after boot camp I went directly to A school (ET).. before I had a year in I was 3rd class.. I got out an E6 in 4 years... was on a cutter, an air station, and two loran stations
If my health was not a problem i would like to be a fixed wing pilot in the coast guard. BUT, as i have learned talking to pilots in the past. If you don't go to the coast guard academy, you can't be a pilot, unless you would transfer from another branch.
Julian, I'm 4 years into my 6 year contract with the air guard for crash fire rescue and want to transfer over to the coast guard for 20 years... how many years do you plan on doing and do you recommend it? I have a few options to support my family and thus is one of them. Awesome channel!
So you’re an IT Network Analyst, and you said you can kinda choose your next station, on a scale 1-10 how easy would it be for you to go to California? Just wondering lol, I looked at all the bases & they are in weird locations and Cali seemed the most normal with just general fun lol
I plan on joining the coast guard soon but I wanted to know how you can pick where to want to be stationed? I thought the only thing you could do was request where you’d like to go.
I am thinking about joining the coast guard because I am, soon to be, raising a family at the age of 18. I have been told that I should do it, and I am somewhat aware of all the different benefits it brings. But I’m still not to sure if I want to join yet. I want to be with my baby and my soon to be wife. I have a tone of questions.
I spend a lot of time researching the cg and other branches like army and marines. And out of all of them I really want to go to the CG but my boyfriend thinks it is stupid. He said that the CG wouldn’t make me happy, wouldn’t pay well, I will get stuck in a job I don’t want, and be stuck somewhere I won’t like. But everywhere I look I just see the opposite of what he say. I feel like the CG Is me. But I also love my boyfriend...
I feel like you should pursue what calls out to you and tell your boyfriend how much this means to you, if he really cares about you he’ll make the effort to understand. My girlfriend was unsure about me wanting to join too but she’s supportive regardless.
Go Air Force anything dealing with a boat they will have you doing janitorial work being a lower enlisted person military personnel can’t talk about how bad things really are due to the contract they signed you also have to stand watch which isn’t fun
IF anyone in the comments is in the Coast Guard i have 3 questions: 1.) whats a cutter? 2.) will the coast guard be a good option if i still wanna continue my hobby/events (they are a 1 time a year type of events) in the mainland/home 3.) Well, this ones a bit scary and my most concerning, i was brought to the USA illegally at the age of 2 and only know the USA as my home country for the past 21 years. other than that clean record . but would i be deported ? saw a few documentaries on marines that were and its kinda sad tbh. if you can answer at-least 1 it will still help a lot, i have 0 things going for me in life and i feel like this is a great way to find and earn some skills/experience

That’s crazy I live in Petaluma! Been thinking about joining! Thanks :)
I ship July 20th! Worried and excited at the same time!
Your Videos have helped so much man, thank you.
This is definitely something I want to do! I’ve been thinking about being a coast guard for a while but I didn’t understand about it, so here I am watching videos about it and you really inspired me to become one! Although the boot camp video I watched gives me goose bumps 😨
As long as you do what you're told and reply yes sir or yes ma'am you should be good
@@cptchuff2741 nah I made a different decision. I’m gonna focus on working as a radiographer
@@goldlemon7962 good luck
I want to join the Coast Guard because I love boats and aircraft, the main problem is I can’t decide if I’m going to join as a sailor on a cutter or a helicopter or aircraft pilot.
Same thing here, whichever travels morw
I REALLY wanna join to be a marine environmental scientist but I'm afraid i don't get in 😥
Did you go for it? If you haven't yet im sure you got it.
@@The__Thunder__ bruh i actually joined the NAVY lol. Been in over a year now but thanks
@@ouuyou6584 that's awesome! Thank you for your service
my dad is coast guard in 1971 to 75
Debating in joining the Coast Guard Reserve or Active duty. Z
Passed the Asvab got my physical next one day I hope to be a culinary specialist any tips? thank you so much!
Did you do it?
How are you doing now? Semi interested in culinary specialist
@@trent_goss I am now a top ranking major in the Coast guard with 50 confirmed kills and a specialty in garlic bread, great career path!
I was somehow able to get a job in the U.S. Coast Guard at just a few months old as a printer.
Nice!
When I’m older I’m gonna join the coast guard 😁
To be a rescue swimmer!!
1. It's awesome
2. Only service with a true peace time mission
3. Did I mention we rule
4. Water Skiing !!! (Not really) lol
5. Really cool racing stripe !!!!
I’m 13 and I plan on joining the Coast Guard as an Officer when I graduate High-school and College. Would you happen to know what I have to go to college for to join the Coast Guard as an Officer?
Military Journeymen
Ok thanks man! I was just curious but thanks for the info
How are things going now!
@@cherrylaurr Welp, i’m almost 16 and my plans gave changed. 😂 I want to go to medicine and become a pharmacist or chemist. But if you’re asking about life, things are going splendid! I hope yours is the same!
I bought that shirt off amazon
I want to join the Coast Guard because it's a well paying job & I'd most likely be able to stay in Alaska & since it's the military branch with the 2nd least amount of personnel I want to help them as much as I can.
I’m joining the Coast Guard because I want to protect the natural resources of the US for the current and future generations of Americans.
Check out the video with MST
Bro you are helping me so much. Joining in August and you are answering so many questions. Thank you
How is it man?
Nice video I just wish you would have talked more about the benefits as I’m trying to decide which branch would be best for my future education etc
To be MSRT or any form of tactical units that will get the bad guys!
Julian, reality check. It is really hard to get into the Coast Guard. My son tired to enlist, there is a waiting list, and you pretty much need to score atleast a 70 on the ASVAB. Can you make a post about this reality. USCG vet. 76-80, BM2.
I want to join the Coast guard because I might be losing my financial aid for college soon that's literally it I admire the Air Force but I know my limits and I think the Coast guard would definitely be pushing them as it is
Do you get all the benifts as the other branches? I'm still confused on what branch I want to join.
Robotics in the CG? Never heard of that. Maybe as a project for academy grads
It pays the bills. Enough said.
I would like to join the coast guard because I like serving people. ... i also like swimming
Great video! Found it very interesting. You are a very good communicator (especially for an IT guy😂)
This video was extremely helpful, thank you !
Before i clicked i guessed IT or ET. Nailed it. MK is the way to go everyone.
Mike Fordham explain
I'm thinking of joining the Coast Guard mainly because I don't want to go into the army like my other family members had. I was interested in doing it since I want to try something new and none of my family members had been in the coast guard, only in the army, but I am pretty good at typing fast, I can type like an essay in about an hour and a half
What are you up to these days? Did you join?
@@mrincognito7323 I have not joined since I'm not old enough just yet but I started a car group, I started streaming on twitch, and trying to start a small photography business as well
Awesome video brother
The military is in a huge demand for people! Is the coast guard the same?
Why aren't you a Public Affairs Specialist? You have a talent for Broadcasting!!!!
Ty!
How does the college work. Do the Coast Guard pay for college of something. Thank you so much.
So I know about the i.t field but does the coast guard have a cyber security command.
Thanks! I recommend the CG
additional benefits are military commissaries and pxs.. prices are lower and no state taxes
Pure adventure every day
Great Video!
So you’re an IT Network Analyst, and you said you can kinda choose your next station, on a scale 1-10 how easy would it be for you to go to California? Just wondering lol, I looked at all the bases & they are in weird locations and Cali seemed the most normal with just general fun lol
Just enlisted as a damage controlman!!
I plan on joining the coast guard soon but I wanted to know how you can pick where to want to be stationed? I thought the only thing you could do was request where you’d like to go.
JuliAn, did you not say it is more difficult to advance mid-career because of the few people in the CG?
I am thinking about joining the coast guard because I am, soon to be, raising a family at the age of 18. I have been told that I should do it, and I am somewhat aware of all the different benefits it brings. But I’m still not to sure if I want to join yet. I want to be with my baby and my soon to be wife. I have a tone of questions.
Great video
I like the idea of search and rescue I've always loved aviation and working with teams is it a 4 year enlistment? is it safer than the other branches?
I’m planning on joining the USCG because I want to be a man of honor and a masculine figure to my future children and the youth
@@Bpbsmith thanks, I honestly feel like he is just scared and worried. But hopefully he will understand
We get paid the same as the other branches
Go Air Force anything dealing with a boat they will have you doing janitorial work being a lower enlisted person military personnel can’t talk about how bad things really are due to the contract they signed you also have to stand watch which isn’t fun
joining the coast guard next year! I'm gonna be an HS!!!
Nice
IF anyone in the comments is in the Coast Guard i have 3 questions:
1.) whats a cutter?
2.) will the coast guard be a good option if i still wanna continue my hobby/events (they are a 1 time a year type of events) in the mainland/home
3.) Well, this ones a bit scary and my most concerning, i was brought to the USA illegally at the age of 2 and only know the USA as my home country for the past 21 years. other than that clean record . but would i be deported ? saw a few documentaries on marines that were and its kinda sad tbh.
if you can answer at-least 1 it will still help a lot, i have 0 things going for me in life and i feel like this is a great way to find and earn some skills/experience
To help save people and change lives
I'm considering transferring in from the Army.
im 14 i really want to go to be in greater shape than i am in now and i like swimming but i dont want to die
Im the same way, but if you arent willing to die then don't enlist cause there is always a chance you do.
Respecting life
Hi Julian. Quick question: can one take classes and be enrolled during active duty in the USCG? How quickly can one become enrolled in college while in the USCG? Best regards
