Outstanding! Back in '86 I was a jarhead assigned as ship's company to the USS Saipan. As we we're leaving Norfolk for a 6 month NATO-MED float, we we're escorted out by a Coast Guard Cutter. I was just a hillbilly from Kentucky and had to ask what type of ship that was (remember, no internet in my day). When told what it was, I said "What's the Coast Guard" which got a laugh out of my peers. Of course they also had to explain what the red-light district was in Amsterdam when we visited there. Ah, simpler times. Best wishes for your career and takes lot's of photos. You future self will appreciate it.
Absolutely take pictures! I'm still fairly young, 26, but I was in the Army and I too am a hillbilly from West Virginia. I'm back in the civilian world now and alot of times I reflect on the pictures I took while in. I didn't know it then, but I appreciated the simplicity of it all. Being told what to do all the time and never having to think for myself
Congrats, man. You reignited my sailing passion when I first ran upon your very first video 1 week after you posted it. Now, I own a small marine business and did some cruising myself. Keep up the dedication!
Well Done Wes...if You end up in coastal NC at Station Oregon Inlet You'll always have a place to chill here at my house. Good to see ya posting again. Better to lead than follow , take charge and stay safe !
Thanks for posting and sharing. Very cool that you are able to film some of your experiences while in training. Congratulations on the leadership award.
Glad to see you are enjoying it and looking ahead. My career was cut short do to an accident but I too enjoyed the service in the USCG way back in the 70's. I went to boot in Alameda Ca. then Yorktown for MK school then ended up in Texas where I became a boarding officer and stood OOD watch before leaving. As a unit we had some very proud moments and I also had some personal proud moments that I can reflect back on and you will too.
Thks for update....keep up the great work and training, I don't know you me but man I feel like I do. You guys have made a great channel. Thks again. 💪
Wes, this is so cool that you are now a Coastie. I am envious. I tried joining in my early late thirties, but it just wasn't in the cards. I will enjoy seeing you back to shooting some more footage of your new life. Glad to see Kate too.
Good video, great balance between information and just daily life snapshots. I am considering joining the Coast Guard specifically to become a boatswain's mate. Exactly what I was looking for, thanks
Hey Wes! I'm at the marina where they're re-working the 45' medium response boats. Nice to see some Coasties around. Take care and keep up the good work.
A whole new respect for you. Used to watch your videos for several years while restoring an old wooden boat. I served with the USCGAUX as an instructor teaching the Sailing and Seamanship course at a local high school. Used to go out on patrols with the Coasties out of Indian River station. Was wondering what happened to you, now I know. Keep them coming!
I went to Eatons Neck as a BM2, made BM1 and got out to pursue a career in Atlanta as a Police Officer, which I did and retired BUT if I could do it over, I would have stayed in. I loved the Coast Guard and New York was great.
X-Ray 21 November 1973. SNRM/RM3 on USCGC Courageous WMEC-622, June 1974 to June 1975; RM3/RM2 at LORAN Monitor Station Keflavik Iceland, July 1975 to August 1976; RM2 Group Sandy Hook NJ to discharge in September 1977. Best wishes to all.
Wes you're amazing! And you had to wear with all to film it what a professional entertainer is all about. I am so incredibly proud of you. You really doing it all right this time. Thinking your way through committing and doing all types of mature self-examination and forward progress. You even married the girl of your dreams. Fantastic. So happy for you three. Speaking of three, how many of those guys at the Coast guard could say they've already sunk the first three sailboats :-)? Man I'm just kidding with you I know that's lemon juice in the eye. But I can't tell you how seriously proud I am of you guys and what you've done and how hard you worked and that I am so charmed that you kept all of us in mind by filming it and now sharing it with us. Your silence has done nothing but kept us on the hook for a couple of years now. I think I'm finally going to buy a t-shirt :-)😂
only one was sunk! I still tell that story to my coworkers. Thanks you the kind words though we'll keep the cameras rolling and videos going, hope to see you in a wicked salty hoody or shirt one day!
So proud of you, Wes! (And yes, perhaps a bit biased because I spent 15 years as a Coast Guard volunteer...😊) You really are setting an awesome example for your shipmates. Semper Paratus!
Great job Wes! Let me know if you ever end up at the Michoud base in New Orleans. I work there as a civilian contractor for another company but damn the coast guard has the best cafeteria onsite 😂
Thanks for sharing what you've been up to Wes! You've achieved a lot in the last two years... Thanks for your service! Now see if you can get them to reexamine that whole Revenue Cutter Act thing, huh? (J/K, but no one likes being boarded. 🙂)
That's awesome. I am awaiting MEPS paperwork to go through rn and plan on basic in september or october. I am also thinking of BM or AMT...I really want to be in a heliocopter but also LEO work so don't know which one I should do.
so im currently active duty Army and im looking to join the coast guard when my term is up whats the day to day life of a BM truley like is there a bunch of dumb tasks or is it truley a lot of fun and enjoyable with the job?
Great video! Thank you! One question, do you know or have any idea what a NEW reservist BM3 might hope to accomplish in his first 2 years working at a station? Perhaps you have met some weekenders at your sector...could a reservist also become a coxwain?
The USCG is great, lots of interesting jobs, good variety as well. Great career wise for longer term. You also get school benefits as well for college classes I'd look into it for sure.
I did 5 years enlisted in the USCG. Got out, went to college, and then did 15 years as an Army officer. Retired in 2023. All I can say is enjoy every day. It goes fast. I had a great time in the Army, but my 5 years in the USCG were pretty amazing. Thanks for serving!
Lucky you got a shore unit out of boot. Our class mostly got cutters like the 210s .also you missed paiinting everything like a slave waiting to go to school
I’m thinking about joining the Coast Guard reserves as a BM. I was wondering if bm reservist actually go out and do their job or will I just be stuck doing paperwork and sweeping all day
If you go undecided you leave boot camp as a non rate where you take time at your first unit assigned deciding on what rate(job) you want to go. If you sign for particular rate(job/profession) you go straight to A-school after boot camp to do that job at your first unit. Only some rates offer boot to A-school at certain times based off coast guards needs.
I am so stoked that you’re posting again. Congratulations on your amazing adventures in the US Coast Guard. And thank you for your service. as for posting videos, it’s wicked salty. Will watch whatever you post lol. 🤙🏼🫡🇺🇸🍻🍿
Pick whichever one sounds more like you and pick a job that will give you hands on experience into the civilian world. I want to be a damage controlmen uscg

Considering the Coast Guard active duty right now. My friend Coastie and really likes it. Other options are National Guard and going to school.
The USCG is great, lots of interesting jobs, good variety as well. Great career wise for longer term. You also get school benefits as well for college classes I'd look into it for sure.
@@WickedSalty Thanks, I need to pass the running.
This was actually informative
Hi. Where s bm ," a " school located now? I was in 79 to 82. Was at rt. Yorktown awaiting em " a" school in Govenors Island NY, back in 1980.
Great to see you making videos again. Curious: believe you’ve got a college degree, no interest in becoming a CG officer?
me too, this year I turn two years in the coast guard and I love it!

Congratulations….what the goal…..working at the sea is the best
That’s a great job
Lucky you got a shore unit out of boot. Our class mostly got cutters like the 210s .also you missed paiinting everything like a slave waiting to go to school
Got very lucky with the station, when did you go through boot camp?
Is Lola still alive ?
I’m thinking about joining the Coast Guard reserves as a BM. I was wondering if bm reservist actually go out and do their job or will I just be stuck doing paperwork and sweeping all day
Is there a branch or team to help prevent human trafficking /arms dealing
You graduated A-school po3? I thought you graduated po2?
everyone wants to see more Kate
Very wicked, Very Salty.
The show goes on!
YOOO I WAS A NONRATE AT EATONS NECK 2018-2020
is it normal to go back to your old station where you were a non rate after A school? just curios to how it works
No but it’s an option with BM’s it’s called RAP and return, if there’s a billet open at the unit you come from and have command endorsement
Is this only if you go in undecided? What if you sign up for a particular profession from the start?
If you go undecided you leave boot camp as a non rate where you take time at your first unit assigned deciding on what rate(job) you want to go. If you sign for particular rate(job/profession) you go straight to A-school after boot camp to do that job at your first unit. @WickedSalty Thanks. I thought so, but that was helpful

Hey Im considering coast guard gunners mate vs navy gunners mate vs army watercraft operator (88k) any advice?
Pick whichever one sounds more like you and pick a job that will give you hands on experience into the civilian world. I want to be a damage controlmen uscg
I want to be in taclet or Msrt
All of it
We’ll keep ‘em going!
You graduated college? Are you on the officer track?
I did but not currently on that track
You’re either a boatswains mate or you work for one!
⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵
I regret not doing this in my life
😎
You need a new mic. Last two videos are too soft. The music is loud enough, your voice isn't.
I finished my career as Engineering Chief 93-95 at Station Eatons Neck.⚓
